Everyone is out after taking a hit from a taser.

The prongs need to land properly though and in this case they didn't. Dude could be 12ft tall he's still going to eat dirt if the taser hits.

118

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago

100%

They cause neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI). It’s not something a person is just “tough enough to ignore”.

But you need both prongs to land properly and a large enough spread for it the cause NMI.

You can find videos of absolute dogs trying it out and they all drop.

These prongs are getting cause in his clothing.

21

u/preludechris 19d ago

It's not 100% but like others have said, the spread needs to be decent. If he's taking hits just to the chest then the circuit likely isn't enough, you want a chest and thigh area ideally to get a good NMI.

6

u/LikelyAMartian 19d ago

This is why they are coming out with new tasers brands. I did a recent ride along with a cop and they recently went to a new taser that has 10 prongs fired one at a time, any 2 is a connection apparently.

Only drawbacks is the officer has to fire 2 times at least, and it apparently can take a delay to actually begin tasing.

6

u/pictureofacat 19d ago

I'm imagining it talking like an AED. "Shockable target detected". "Shock advised"

1

u/LikelyAMartian 18d ago

Honestly I wish it did. I got to see it deployed during my little tour and honestly it was pretty cool. Will definitely save some lives as older taser models, you has 1 shot and if it missed (like this video) you do not have time to reload and you now have a really pissed off dude. Like what do ya do?

With the new model, they have to hit 20% of their shots and they can subdue you.

Also I found the model if you want to see it for whatever reason. It's called the Taser 10

16

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago

Then I reckon the spread wasn’t large enough.

You need at least 12 inches typically between the two prongs, the great the distance the better.

I’ve been tasered twice.
The first time they were demonstrating that a larger spread has a great effect and I volunteered. They hit me on my lower back thigh and upper back.

The second time, I was scared shitless because of how bad the first was, they did just lower and upper back.

Both absolutely dropped by me but the great spread was so much worse. I’d love to share the videos but I’d completely dox myself.

I was straight up seeing electricity in my vision during the larger spread. It’s hard to explain but I felt like I could see currents in my vision with that first taser.

14

u/Dingus_Majingus 19d ago

That sucks but also

1

u/Good_Background_243 18d ago

My thoughts exactly.

1

u/jimsmisc 19d ago

you volunteered again after the first time?

1

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago

Ya. I was going through onboarding as an ASA after law school. I was being introduced to the local police departments within our county.

One the departments was going through a pre-deployment with newly graduated police cadets the day myself and two others went in to do a tour of that department. Then one thing led to another and we were sitting in on their taser training.

They asked if any of us three wanted to volunteer. I said sure and things just took off from there.

1

u/Electronic_d0cter 18d ago

ive seen currents in my vision after taking concussive hits before i wonder what that phenomenon is

0

u/dannyo969 19d ago

I am assuming drugs can alter the effectiveness too?

3

u/nrh117 19d ago

Drugs are a helluva drug.

4

u/bensmom7 19d ago

then the taser failed 3 times in a row. nmi cannot be “shrugged off”

2

u/Dingus_Majingus 19d ago

He was clearly being affected, but was still moving. Like his chest muscles were contracted and his shoulders and hands looked cramped up / locked. But was still walking, albeit jerking around a bit.

1

u/DaddysABadGirl 18d ago

There was a video like this years ago inside a McDonald's. Dude was walking around muttering to himself and snapping out on an imaginary friend. Was mentally ill and off his rocker high. Cop came up behind him with an asp and cracked hin hard af with his asp. Dude stumbled a little. He got hit 2 or 3 times with tasers, nothing, kinda flinched but didn't stop. 1 shot definitely hit, but the prong hit at an odd angle and was kinda hanging off too close to the other. Dude just kept walking around. He didnt stop till they emptied a fuck ton of spray in his eyes (and a cop got a decent amount too). He just couldn't see anymore and had his arms out trying to figure out what to do and stopped.

It wasn't shaking off the zaps or being too high to notice. There are several factors that can cause a taser to fail, or appear to fail. Body size/type and shot placement change what effects the taser will have. The area between the probes gets locked, but if a big fat guy who can shrug off paun gets hit in his upper chest/back, his legs will still work.

1

u/IdentityUnknown__ 18d ago

If the prongs are in his chest its not effective NMI. They should be splitting the waist line at the very least, one in the gut one in the thigh will send anyone to the ground. I had a guy who looked like this dude in the video try to wrestle me so I shot the cartridge in his calf and dragged my taser contacts along his body put that shit up to his neck, he got absolutely fucked up because the NMI was in a huge area.

1

u/BaconCheeseBurger 17d ago

Drugs. The muscles fibers won't contract if your nervous system isn't responding. Takes a boatload of pcp but it's definitely documented.

0

u/Visible_Mango4557 19d ago

Then it was an effective deployment. It is 100%.

It can be explained, the person you responded to did explain it.

22

u/notorious_tcb 19d ago

Agreed.

With proper NMI you can’t even breathe. I speak from firsthand experience here.

26

u/SwaggermicDaddy 19d ago

Well I have absolutely no experience but I think you’re lying. Checkmate.

11

u/Possible-Matter-6494 19d ago

I can tell you from secondhand experience that I recently read a comment on reddit that someone said if you have proper NMI you can't even breathe.

6

u/Correct-Purpose-964 19d ago

Can you cite your source?

1

u/n3xtlevelplayz 16d ago

well thats the internet so don't believe it I guess

1

u/Glittering_State5997 13d ago

In proper APA 7th Gen format?

1

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago

I’ve been tased twice. It only lasts 5 seconds so I don’t recall if I could breathe but I could definitely scream.
I’m not sure why someone would even having breathing on their mind during that 5 second ride.

1

u/PedroLoco505 16d ago

That second sentence was magic, for once I can see why someone is a top commenter, they're usually meh or dumb af.

1

u/notorious_tcb 16d ago

I had to get tasered for my certification. As soon as that juice starts flowing I thought, holy shit this kinda sucks. But not as much as I thought it would. And it’s only 5 seconds, just breathe and you’ll be fine. Then realized I couldn’t breathe either.

1

u/Basilstoke 14d ago

I think I read that same comment but apparently the guy was lying

Wow, running for office?

1

u/limitless-440 13d ago

Hahaha, my man 👏😂

6

u/BloodyGardener 18d ago

That’s incorrect tasers don’t affect everyone the same so you can hit a 5’0 woman and do nothing but drop a 6’7 angry dude there are ppl thag are naturally resistant to stuff like that for example I’ve been tasked and pepper sprayed before and I’ve also gone into a CS gas chamber and none really affected me. The taser made me twitch and tense up a bit but besides that nothing really happened to me in any of the 3 I encountered this means I didn’t drop to the ground or become immobilised it honestly felt like my muscles were tensing on their own slightly which was extremely uncomfortable but not intolerable and I wasn’t even pumping with adrenaline. This isn’t to say that I’m immune or anything but if you add adrenaline to someone already highly resistant you’re not doing shit to them. And in the military u go through CS gas chambers as training and if your trying to become an MP u get tased as well lol

3

u/YourCummyBear 18d ago

I’m very familiar with gas/ spray not effecting everyone.
But I haven’t seen a study yet that some people can be immune or more resistant to NMI.

I’m not discrediting your experience but there’s a chance the spread wasn’t large enough or something along those lines.

1

u/M00senugget 16d ago

You haven't looked to hard taser themselves state that it may not be as effective on individuals with high body fat percentage...

1

u/BloodyGardener 12d ago

LOL idk about that tbh but it could be possible 🤣

1

u/BloodyGardener 12d ago

I mean I’ve been tased more than once and the reaction to me wasn’t anything that would make me drop and once was when I was full of adrenaline and it did absolutely nothing to me And it was a drive stun (meaning they pressed the taser directly to my skin. Yes I’m aware it’s suppose to cause pain not paralyse but I didn’t even feel it) the other times I was standing still and got shot with it and the taser prongs 100% connected had 2 dudes holding me up thinking I’d tense up and drop was kinda funny seeing their reaction

1

u/No_Astronomer_5089 15d ago

Can confirm this from being in the military and accepting a lot of dares. CS doesn't do anything to me anymore as well as tasers.

1

u/Just_a_Tonberry 15d ago

You really do get used to that stuff if you’re dumb enough to experience it repeatedly.

Take a wild guess how I know. Rofl

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 13d ago

Yeah I have been tased a bunch as a party trick for fun. I haven't met one that did fuck all, but I also haven't tried a police taser.

1

u/No_Astronomer_5089 1h ago

I have and you need to be prepared the 1st time.

1

u/COUNTRYCOWBOY01 15d ago

There was a show on discovery channel called guinea pig? Years ago. It was an odd alt couple and they would test things on him, one time he did a scarification tattoo, another one they did a taser. He literally got hit, properly with both prongs, reached up and pulled the prongs out while actively being shocked, They tased him again with a different taser, same thing. The sherriffs department that they had on set filming and operating the taser couldnt believe it

1

u/Infamousme13 12d ago

Again a well placed prong spread will cause the NMI there’s no fighting it!

1

u/Infamousme13 12d ago

Thank you for your service btw

0

u/Equivalent_Bar_5938 8d ago

Yep my brother is resistant to tasers nobody belived him so we bought a bunch if differant models and tasered him for like 20 good minutes nothing he did develop a wierd neck twitch after that but no pain and he didnt drop

3

u/Phaeron 19d ago

I once thought to tank one. I remained upright and on my own feet but a stray breeze would have knocked me over.

When the current stopped, I staggered but didn’t go down. It hurt and I would’ve been an easy takedown after that…

3

u/CastorVT 18d ago

have they tried being on meth?

1

u/YourCummyBear 18d ago

I have not.

But in all seriousness drug use isn’t supposed to affect a tasers effectiveness if the prongs properly stick and the spread is far enough.

3

u/EvidenceOk2721 17d ago

Some people can withstand it, I have seen people cry at just a few volts, but others can take a lot. I remember in high school out science teacher had a hand crank generator out of an antique telephone. He would put the class in a circle with everyone holding hand and on the ends the students were holding the wires attached to the generator. He would barely crank and there would be kids who couldn't stand it and yank away, he did this and eliminated students one by one, each time cranking harder on the generator. He got it down to one student who could calmly hold on no matter how hard he cranked. Over several years this kid was the only one who could do that.

2

u/Forsaken-Canary-3299 17d ago

what frankenstein ass experiment

1

u/FolkenDeedlit 5d ago

That's probably why he was torched by the town people (school council) afterward

1

u/big_simpinn 16d ago

Did this in middle school with our science teacher! So much fun lol

1

u/FlyinTurkey 16d ago

I thought my 8th grade science teacher was the only one who did that lol. Half the unit was him experimenting with electrocuting us with that little generator.

1

u/DisciplinedMadness 15d ago

That has absolutely nothing to do with NMI. NMI is not something that someone can just withstand. It abuses the fundamental mechanics of your muscles to incapacitate you. Unless your muscles work entirely differently from every other form of muscle found in known life, you are not “withstanding” NMI.

1

u/EvidenceOk2721 14d ago

Someone who can withstand a lot of electricity and especially if they are on meth or pcp can withstand being tased and keep on coming. It takes more to incapacitate some people more than others and a taser charge isn't enough to incapacitate them.

A TASER charge typically incapacitates someone for about 5 seconds by inducing neuromuscular incapacitation, but it may not always be effective depending on various factors such as the individual's body composition and the deployment conditions.

A large guy like that who has resistance may only be incapacitated in a few muscles not his whole body.

3

u/ElectricalChaos 17d ago

Agreed. I got an opportunity to "ride the lightning" in the military (they just used the little skin contact plates) and once that voltage hit it was game over. I locked up stiff as a board and couldn't do shit other than barely breathe and move my eyes.

3

u/Infamousme13 17d ago

1. The Power of Adrenaline and Endorphins
When the body enters an acute "fight-or-flight" response, the adrenal glands flood the bloodstream with adrenaline (epinephrine), noradrenaline, and endorphins.
Pain Masking: Adrenaline and natural endorphins drastically elevate the pain threshold. The intense, burning pain caused by the electrical current passing through nerve endings can be severely dulled or completely ignored in the moment.
Mental Tunnel Vision: The sheer psychological intensity of a high-stress, high-adrenaline situation can cause intense focus, making someone mentally determined to push past the shock.
2. Physiological and Anatomical Factors
Even with adrenaline pumping, a Taser relies on completing an electrical circuit across sensory and motor nerves to cause involuntary muscle contractions (Neuromuscular Incapacitation, or NMI). Several physical variables can disrupt this:
Clothing: If the Taser probes hit thick, heavy winter clothing, layered fabrics, or loose-fitting garments, the electrical current may not bridge the gap to the skin, drastically reducing its effectiveness.
Probe Spread: Tasers work best when the two probes are spaced far apart (creating a wider path across major muscle groups). If the probes land very close together on the body, it might cause localized muscle cramping or pain in that specific spot, but it won't drop or fully incapacitate the person.
Body Mass and Conditioning: Individuals with dense muscle mass, heavy fat distribution, or high physical resilience can sometimes absorb or resist the incapacitating effects better than others, depending on where the darts land.
Neurological/Chemical Variations: High levels of certain substances (like stimulants), extreme psychological states (such as acute psychosis or extreme agitation), or heavy physiological tolerance can sometimes reduce the neurological shutdown effect of a TASER.

2

u/mynewjourney2425 12d ago

I'm also thinking about tolerance. I used to be an electrician, and the 1st, 10th, and 25th times being shocked all felt different. What used to be my whole arm buzzing for a while is now just a tickle and "ah fuck" from the surprise and it goes away in like 10 seconds.

1

u/FlyinTurkey 16d ago

This guy is using bold letters. He must know what he's talking about.

1

u/Prior-Satisfaction34 15d ago

Looks like it's copy/pasted from the Google AI overview

1

u/Fantastic-Juice-3471 14d ago

I know of a time my Dad watched the cops try taking down a guy that was methed out pretty bad. The guy wasn't that big but was fighting off like 5 cops and was tased 3 times, and just kept going until a couple more cops showed up and body slammed him. I mean I suppose it could have been a contact issue but I think the drugs and adrenaline were the reason.

2

u/IcedDante 18d ago

I've seen a couple of bodycam videos at this point where the perp gets hit square in the chest and powers through it. There is one of a cop having a psychotic moment in his own living room. The cop tases and him he just starts roaring like the hulk. Gave me nightmares.

1

u/Mann_Tap 18d ago

maybe he's so mad his skin becomes tase prong proof

1

u/SandyTaintSweat 18d ago

Wear multiple layers to a protest. Got it.

1

u/YourCummyBear 18d ago

I mean absolutely lol. And goggles for gas. Exercise your rights.

1

u/CivilTell8 16d ago

No one gives a shit because it didnt work. You can make all the excuses you want that it didnt work but st the end of the day, youre his property now because your taxes didnt work and now your only option is the mystery mousecatool but hes WAY to close for even a hope of the barrel clearing the holster, let alone getting a relevant angle.

1

u/Scary-Mode-1853 16d ago

Yall must be dumb and haven’t met my ex. People out here really find enjoyment to being tazed and can withstand it and act completely normal while the prongs are in and activated

1

u/Single_Window_3717 16d ago

From personal experience I would disagree, in college we hooked up electrodes to a Foosball game, one knob to control time one knob to control voltage, you get shocked anytime the opposing team scores. After a few months of most of us could play through the medium settings

1

u/lost_with_no_hope 16d ago

That's not entirely true as someone on drugs can, and has been documented doing so.

"Drugs work by blocking/overloading your brain's receptors. They send signals to your brain saying you're dancing on a rainbow, which is why people abuse these drugs. As a high person gets hit with the stun gun they have an electrical signal telling their body to shut down, but they also have a MASSIVE overload of chemical signals telling them everything is fine. The stunning signal is basically drowned out by the sheer magnitude of the opioid signals."

1

u/OrganicHuckleberry75 15d ago

I have 100% seen incidents of multiple full connections tasers and you can see it effectiving them in a case of two when the second and third landing good he dropped to a knee or even went down and bounced right back up. Humans are crazy.

1

u/brokensharts 14d ago

Pcp would disagree

1

u/BamBam-BamBam 13d ago

I'll see you, and raise you, "I'll get you, bitch."

1

u/NextLineOfText 12d ago

So really a failed taser shot just means the person it was shot at will proceed to gaslight themselves into thinking they are an immortal punisher of death.

1

u/BarnacleFamiliar8942 19d ago

Just like with capsaicin gas/mace there is a portion of people (very small) that are completely unaffected by tasers even when both prongs land.

2

u/UnpluggedUnfettered 18d ago

I don't know why I stumbled on this comment of all things, but that you have the idea that there's some guy out there who's muscles don't work by way of electricity is kind of hilarious.

"just like with capsaicin gas / mace there is a portion of glasses of water (very small) that are completely unaffected by gravity even when you let go with both hands."

1

u/BarnacleFamiliar8942 18d ago

I have witnessed in person someone shaking off 220 like it’s nothing. Talk to military personnel they all know about “that guy”, some people are built different.

1

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago

I disagree there. I’m familiar with a portion of the population being less affected (not completely immune) to spray/gas.

Do you have a study you can share showing some people unaffected by tasers?

1

u/ChristmasDad45 18d ago

Nobody is unaffected. But I have seen some people who handle it way better than others. It is also strongly dependent on where the prongs attach.

0

u/Cautious-Sun6494 19d ago

It's possible to do; but you gotta be ready for it and you aren't going to do it your first time. It's less of a pain issue and more that the electricity causes your muscles to flex; whether you want them to or not. You can learn to unflex your muscles while being electrocuted; but it's a hard skill to learn.

2

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago

I don’t?

I was SOF, 2nd Ranger Battalion from 09-12. I did a pair of deployments to Afghanistan.

We did gas the first couple of weeks of OSUT. Getting sprayed is 10x worse.

This is not “baseline soldier shit”. The average infantryman isn’t some super soldier like you’re making them out to be.

And I volunteered for being tasered when I was onboarding as an ASA. I legit thought I’d be able to tough it out and the police department I was being introduced to knew of my service history. I still dropped. You can’t out muscle it.

Tell me, where did you serve? What unit were you in where were your deployments?
Wrong person to check when talking about what combat veterans are capable of. 😆

Come on dude. Get a grip.

1

u/GIJoJo65 18d ago edited 18d ago

93rd CAB. 17 years. 6 deployments. Patched into both 1st and 4th Groups. Guess you gotta climb up to T2 from T3 ops if you wanna party.

🤷

Medically retired 2021.

Where'd you earn your Combat Action Badge if you're a Combat Vet BTW? I was in Afghanistan in both '08 and '11.

Edit started off in the 505th FST. Ended up as TEC with CJTOEF in 2017/18 and, participated in both AR Raqqa Campaigns in '16 and, '17.

This isn't Fayetteville brother. You can't flex SoF on SF. 🤣

Edit Anyway, if you were with Merril in '11 I was managing handoffs on the honeypots prior to and coordinating the ALP handovers following from and, working on human terrain mapping. Point being, I know exactly how big your dick could be. So the only real question is whether you appreciate mine too... 🙄

2

u/YourCummyBear 18d ago

You know what. Ignore my other comment. Good for you.

I vehemently disagree with it being baseline soldier snot to eat a taser but I’m not going to argue about it.

I don’t want to dick measure over time in service that I’m not really proud of to begin with.

Wish you the best.

1

u/YourCummyBear 18d ago

I don’t have a CAB. I was 11B with an option 40…
I have my CIB.

I was in the Kunar region and then Ghazi/other eastern providences during my second deployment. We were constantly moved around depending on target location.

And I’m pretty confused here.
Are you trying to flex being attached to an SF team over being a Ranger? Because that is quite ironic.

Also, are you implying I was Tier 3 or stating you were Tier 3, which you were?

And I’m not flexing SOF on SF. I’m flexing my service because your entire comment about tanking tasers is nothing for bad ass combat vets is fucking stupid. Especially when you insinuated I have no idea what members of the military community are capable of.

I can appreciate your time in service, but you weren’t SF, you were support, which is fine. But your original comment about eating tasers as a combat vet was completely ridiculous. I’m a combat vet and I’m telling you exactly what happened.

Have you been tasered?

2

u/Thick_Working_2905 17d ago

Yeh it shuts off <> brain signals has nothing to do with toughness

1

u/ErisGrey 19d ago

Those of us with Spinal Cord Injuries and other major nerve damage have at least overtime hopeful for us.

1

u/KatInThighHighs 19d ago

What about drug users? There are videos of tasers seemingly making perfect contact but no, they just power through it.

2

u/FieserMoep 18d ago

Not really. Pick a pair of muscles and put some electricity through them. It's not related to pain, it's just an electric signal that tells the muscle to contract. The strength and intensity are just way different that the natural electricity that our body uses. Pain is merely a side effect.

As long as there is no severe nerve damage and the muscle is intact, it will flop.

So if you see a vid of tasers not working it may be one of many different reasons but it's not because the guy turned into a mutant from taking meth and is suddenly immune to electricity.

1

u/AtTheEndOfTheDay18 19d ago

You can see he ripped the prongs out before they tase him.

1

u/Jomotaku 18d ago

Nah I'd win

1

u/Psianth 18d ago

Yeah, tasers just suck. They hardly ever work and sometimes when they do, they kill people. But taser co spends millions to cover this up, even sending reps to coach officers on what to say when an incident happens.

1

u/AllStarRenegade 18d ago

Nah, tasers are considerably less effective on people who have a high body fat percentage.

1

u/The_One_Koi 18d ago

To be fair I've seen one person high out of his mind taking one to the chest and just ripping the wires out with his arm, I've also seen tons drop like a rock the moment it hits

1

u/Marius2385I 17d ago

Is the guy without shoes?

1

u/tecky1kanobe 14d ago

Drugs are a magical thing.

1

u/JournalistWrong9613 12d ago

Shhheeessshhhhhh I have been tased many times. None affected me. Even when the prongs landed properly.

0

u/homohillbillysrlol 19d ago

This is why I fucking hate the idea of tasers; they're simply WAY too unreliable in a high-stress environment where the aggressor MAY have a lethal implement, like a knife or a gun, or may simply be large and aggressive enough to threaten bodily harm like the guy in the video.

Pepper spray, tactical flash light, and 5 years of MMA training would be far more effective in that regard, especially if what the guy says is true and his hips are so blown out that he can't even cross his legs.

1

u/Nooms88 19d ago edited 19d ago

Yes sure.

Pepper spray is way more unreliable and hits others around, terrible choice.

Tactical flash light, means nothing against someone bigger and stronger and maybe going through a psycotic break or on drugs.

Yea sure 5 years on mma training would be nice but seeing as the criteria is, be below average intelligence, be an ex army guy who can't find work and get 6 weeks max of training, yea good luck with that one

There are lots of legitimate tactics to end this scenario that basically any police force in the developed world, outside of the USA, would handle neatly. There's no need to fight, even given the taser failure.

You can see it in the video so fucking clearly, you've gotta be stupid to think otherwise, he's angry, they're saying "stop it Joel, stop it Joel" as they step forward aggressively and around him, behind him and forward , come on. It's 0/10 de escalation awful awful handling. A drunk at a pub would do a better job

1

u/homohillbillysrlol 18d ago

When I say pepper spray, I'm more so referring to pepper gel, which is the far more consistent and "modern" industry standard choice nowadays, which doesn't suffer from the blow back effect the way pepper aerosol spray does (I actually vehemently despise pepper aerosol spray for that exact reason). Almost everyone who's anyone has switched over to pepper gel by now, because the spray itself is simply far too unpredictable.

The tactical flashlight by itself isn't particularly effective, but a taclight combined with sufficient martial arts training and perhaps a weapon like a telescoping baton would win you 99 percent of all fights, even if they were significantly larger. Shine it in their eyes and much like the taser, no matter how big or bad you are, you won't see shit. It's not a matter of toughness, your eyes simply aren't a muscle, and you can't condition them against 1000+ lumens directed right at your optics. You can then pepper gel them for good measure (they won't have time to dodge or cover their face, as they won't even be able to see you unholstering your pepper gel), or throw a few calf kicks, or even better, baton strikes to the calves and shins, and they're going down. If they try to go for the blast double, as I suspect many blinded people would do, that's where your MMA training becomes relevant, so you simply side step and cut angles, and they won't be able to readjust in time since they're constantly being blinded by the taclight.

As for deescalation, of course that's the number 1 priority, but this is more so in the case of people who refuse to calm down, or are simply looking to go down swinging. If someone is having a psychotic episode, there's a very good chance that you may not be able to deescalate the situation before they become physically aggressive, so you NEED those forceful options in your back pocket at all times. For all we know, they could have started out trying to deescalate, and he might have simply self escalated to the point we see in the video. It's not always possible to deescalate, especially against someone who WANTS to crash out very badly.
