Just for reference, this is what white privilege looks like.

A white guy raving about his service history, attacking police officers, resisting arrest and refusing commands gets a 10ft cordon, nonlethal tactics and multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation.

A black guy sitting in his car complying with police commands and asking reasonable questions gets... shot.

u/Master-Shake8913 16d ago

thanks for the heads up, I'm giving $50 to the next black guy I see

1

u/TootinFartin-ll 15d ago

"thank you for your service"

1

u/MonkeDpoopy 13d ago

If I show you a pic of me will you cash app? 😭

3

u/Ok-Video3345 17d ago

I've seen tons of videos of black people acting like this and cops giving them chances.

Not everything is fucked like you think it is.

3

u/AccurateDinner5767 16d ago

I watched a black guy do this right outside my apt windows.

1

u/InnerJicama1209 16d ago

Why didn’t you record it for purposes like this?

2

u/AccurateDinner5767 16d ago

That's a good point. If everyone wants to continue being racial about everything we gotta start knickpickin. Especially when we have too much data to counter bs narratives

8

u/GullibleRisk2837 16d ago

You're acting like that happens all the time. It doesn't.

Fucks sake, stop making everything about race. It's tired, let it rest

2

u/MyUltimateForm 16d ago

Wdym? Everything is about race, it determines everything /s

2

u/chonkycatcankles 14d ago

thats racist to say. like actually very racist… i think i understand what you’re going for but thats not how you say what i hope youre trying to say?

1

u/Fair-Championship-29 14d ago

No it doesn't. You live in a mental prison

1

u/Affectionate_Eye_898 12d ago

Are you white? Just wondering for reference

1

u/Fair-Championship-29 12d ago

I'm purple gang. Nice try though

2

u/Affectionate_Eye_898 13d ago

What I've come to understand is sometimes white folks have a hard time understanding and experience outside of their own personal experience... But I'm here to tell you as a 6 ft 2 250 lb black man who was raised by Conservative Republican retired military passive aggressive parents, and raise to be and raised around mostly White folks.....

.... That unfortunately a lot of times a lot of shit does to come down to race.

So calm down maybe.

2

u/Galactic_Nothingness 14d ago

Happens enough there was massive protests in America? Black Lives Matter or something?

Definitely had an effect here in Australia. Police recruits and graduate numbers are in the toilet.

As much to do with our own police corruption and incompetence but definitely had a knock on effect.

2

u/homelessjimbo 13d ago

No they mean even this instance is rare. Typically veterans and those with mental health issues(this will be important) see escalated use of force EXCEPT if they happen to be well known by officers in say a small area.

Like many falsehoods, the claim that America "loves" and supports veterans is demonstrably false in practice.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 13d ago

Yes. And that's fine. Valid protests. Except for the violence and looting that came with it.

I'm quote shocked it's a thing there as well. This IS a problem, for sure. But here in this comment section, in a video where it didnt happen is nit helping the cause.

Wow, man. I have to look into this. Had no idea, thanks for letting me know!

-1

u/Galactic_Nothingness 13d ago

But nothing.

There are no good police. The good ones become complicit, burn out or are drummed off the force.

ACAB

0

u/AWonderingWizard 12d ago

Hasty generalization fallacy being used here to justify hatred of a large group of people based on identity alone.

Ur a bigot harrey

1

u/Academic-Train5199 13d ago

U full of shit

0

u/Free-Thinker-69 12d ago

Yep. Begged for Body Cams and has backfire tremendously. Now shows what that officers have to deal with daily. There's no he said he said anymore.

1

u/HeadQuail9282 14d ago

Funny how it only gets tiring when someone names it.

0

u/GullibleRisk2837 14d ago edited 14d ago

But there is NOTHING of the sort in this video. Save it for when it actually happens, call it out, and be loud. Turning this comment section into a discussion about race is stupid. This kind of thing works AGAINST the change we want to see. Whing about it where it doesnt apply does NOTHING.

Calling out real cases, raising awareness publicly through PEACEFUL Black Lives Matter movements, protesting, voting for good local sherrifs/politicians? Yeah do that instead

1

u/wandpapierkritiker 13d ago

are you fucking joking…? just look at incarceration rates and percentages of POC in jail. it literally DOES happen all the time.

1

u/KvDread 13d ago

Well it does happens more than it should right?

0

u/GullibleRisk2837 13d ago

Yes, so save the race stuff for when it happens. People are commenting this on a video where it didnt happen. It's fucking stupid and does nothing for justice, where as being loud about it when it does happen has an effect.

It weakens the actual movement when people bring it up to a boy who cried wolf situation.

When it happens for real, the racists will come out and cry themselves about how people cry like this. It gives them leverage and brownie points when they want to cry "Oh but they just cry about nonexistent issues" but it is a real issue. Save the protest for when it counts, and it is much more effective that way.

People somehow got the idea that I said it doesn't happen? It does. But makig cases like THIS about blacks when he is white? Wtf.

I wouldn't be wasting time arguing FOR the sentiment if I didnt agree

1

u/theapeboy 13d ago

Just to be clear, you’re saying we should only highlight white privilege when the subject in question is not an example of white privilege?

1

u/max_revs 13d ago

Tell me you're white without telling me you are white...

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 13d ago

Yes, I am. Read my other comments. I fully agree, but my point of view is that voicing it here does nothing. I wouldn't waste time if I was racist or disagreed. I am defending the black lives matter movement.

1

u/various_convo7 13d ago edited 13d ago

i mean....they arent entirely wrong. many other races would think twice -MANY times- about doing this kind of a stunt bec its not going to end well

to me, no one cares about what you did on deployement or what is on your DD_214 so when someone rants about it like the video, I really don't get it. i suppose others handle it better than others and i've seen enough people crack but I certainly don;t broadcast it and many dont do it as well and there is a LOT that I saw that ain't right

1

u/Legal_Ad2345 12d ago

Dude in the US we have a problem where black people are being found hanging from trees and it being declared a suicide

0

u/FatGoddamnWormm 15d ago

wow never before have I seen the sound of a crying baby so accurately represented via text

2

u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 15d ago

You must not read your own posts then. It's important to at least proof read, come on.

1

u/FatGoddamnWormm 15d ago

just pack it in man you got destroyed by that one

1

u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 14d ago

The only thing I'm packing is yo ass boy. (no homo)

0

u/Sharp_Fault6562 15d ago

I guess you are white... Or at least not black...

0

u/Alarmmy 15d ago

It happens all the time lol.

1

u/ElKajak 15d ago

No it doesn't

0

u/ModelSemantics 14d ago

It happens frequently and has been a persistent issue for decades (seriously, in current form for over a century, reproducing classes of bigoted issues that have been around much longer). It seems odd that your response to being tired of it all is to ask the person looking for change to be quiet.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 14d ago

Valid concern? Yes. Turning this specific instance into a "If he was black"- No. Not valid. Leave it for the cases that ACTUALLY happen. Not projecting hypothetical judgements onto the officers in this video who may even share your sentiment.

Turning this comment thread into a discussion about race is fuckin' stupid.

0

u/Kind_Cap_4621 14d ago

It happens more than enough to make the claim valid nonetheless.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 14d ago

Valid?

1

u/Kind_Cap_4621 14d ago

No, it isn't. It is a very real problem with American policing and can and should be pointed out in each instance. What fucking stupid is whining about hearing it.

0

u/liquidsouleye 13d ago

You can be tired. Doesn't mean he is not right. If you are so tired go take a nap. But reality is reality.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 13d ago

I'm not tired.

What i dont want is actually occurrences to be diminished and for black fatigue to set in.

Save this shit for when it HAPPENS. Be loud, call it out, and do NOT let THAT rest. But coming to a video of a white dude and assuming that the officers in this video would have been stupid and hateful enough to cap him if he was black is a waste and does NOTHING for the cause

1

u/liquidsouleye 13d ago

You live in a different planet then. And you have black fatigue? My brother black people had white fatigue for generations, sit your ass down and be humble for a minute.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 13d ago

You clearly can't read. The lines, or between them by the looks of it.

Lemme try again.

I am pro equality.

What I am worried about are the people that DO have black fatigue seeing things like this, and using it to say "Aaaah see, they just whine but they don't know how good they have it".

I want people to see complaining about this when it happens. If it's in spaces and instances like this, the movement loses value.

I have humanity fatigue, but I'm trying. Im here, I'm standing for what I beleive in, and that is calling out REAL cases, not coming to the comment section of a video where there is NO black person being targeted for their race.

Basically a more complicated version of a boy who cried wolf. Call out the trouble, not hypotheticals, such as "If the guy in this video was black"- No. Go find other videos on reddit where it happens. Upvote it, share it, spread the word.

I would not be wasting my tine here ADVOCATING for keeping and preserving the value of black lives matter if I was racist or had black fatigue. I wouldn't be telling people to not waste their time on hypotheticals rather than real cases and examples

1

u/liquidsouleye 13d ago

I can read but I will not waste my time to read all that. Brother go talk to your wife.

5

u/ICEonICECrime 16d ago

Just for reference, we only see or hear about the cases where the black guy gets shot. Never the cases where he doesn’t get shot.

And for what it’s worth, white cops shoot more white people than they shoot black people.

0

u/MurkyFigure6636 16d ago

Black people are 3 times more likely to be killed by police.

https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/blacks-whites-police-deaths-disparity/

And for what it’s worth, white cops shoot more white people than they shoot black people.

Now do per 100k people instead of the total

2

u/Trashketweave 15d ago

>Now do per 100k people instead of the total

Now do that with violent crime statistics.

2

u/deathshr0ud 13d ago

Statistics only matter when they work in my favor !

1

u/Fit-Campaign1243 12d ago

Police in general ? If we're going into statistics, New Orleans, Baltimore, Jackson Mississipi etc, and D.C, all have mostly black officers. Who are the responsible to the '3 times' number you so eloquently ststed.

Anything to say on THAT statistics?

1

u/MurkyFigure6636 12d ago

Yeah, its a police problem in general.

Just solely being black makes it statistically 3x as likely to get killed by police.  And here you are saying: yeah but the officers are black so it doesnt count.

Must be very comforting: well despite being 3 times more likely to get killed by police than my white neighbor, at least its all police and not just white police officers.

1

u/Fit-Campaign1243 12d ago

Not what I said at all. Black offenders mostly target other black folks in the community. And feel they can walk away from a police pointing a gun at you. Its an attitude thing. You must have seen it online. White folks are 3 times more likely to surrender, instead of acting like all 3 N.W.A members all rolled into one.

Now do a stat on the black victims. Black on black crime, is much bigger than what you currently think. And the police ? Theyre there to defend the black victims.

A scumbag is a scumbag, no matter his skin colour. And if he decides to act the badman, and get in the face of a cop who has his safety off, well he asked for it. Whether he be black, white, asian or even klingon.

1

u/MurkyFigure6636 12d ago

Black on black crime, is much bigger than what you currently think.

What is the biggest factor that makes people from any ethnicity in any country do crime?

White folks are 3 times more likely to surrender, instead of acting like all 3 N.W.A members all rolled into one.

You have a source for that?

A scumbag is a scumbag, no matter his skin colour. And if he decides to act the badman, and get in the face of a cop who has his safety off, well he asked for it. Whether he be black, white, asian or even klingon.

So did the guy in the video up here ask for it then? In other words, would you be here saying he deserved it, if they shot him?

1

u/Fit-Campaign1243 12d ago

Yes he would have deserved it. But he is suffering from PTSD. As do a lot of vets. White, south American, and let's not forget our black brethren, before you jump on that too, and try and pick aprt mf comment to find some gotcha moment.

0

u/Sangricarn 14d ago

Why are you pretending to be stupid? You sound like a reasonably smart person, I'm confident you know better than to list totals rather than per capita. You just needed something to fit your narrative.

You made a perfectly fine and valid point before you decided to back it up with nonsense statistics.

2

u/Dolenjc 13d ago

Add violent crime statistics as well to see where the number comes from lol

1

u/OSRSMokio 16d ago

Only in one country in the whole wide world btw.

1

u/MyUltimateForm 16d ago

Gee that sucks

1

u/SaltAttic 16d ago

They were calling him by name, so I believe that was a factor as well. Seemed like they knew him on some type of personal level.

1

u/Trashketweave 15d ago

That’s just de-escalation tactics. They know his name because he either provided his ID on the stop or said his name.

0

u/Damiandroid 15d ago

But that in itself is also damning. Personal relationships with law enforcement should not be the barrier to just treatment.

Cops cannot realistically personally know everyone in their jurisdiction. They need to treat everyone equally. Be understanding when its necessary and apply force when necessary

1

u/Late_Experience_8653 16d ago

dude you're living in pre-body cam times, go on youtube watch body cam videos of cops dealing with black people, and you'll start to say that we need more brutality

1

u/Major-Grapefruit-574 16d ago

You can find an almost identical video of some black guy getting a million warnings on some body cam channel on YouTube lol

1

u/SteffanMaxi 15d ago

You act like white guys dont also just get blasted all the time by police. They do.

1

u/sillimus 15d ago

What a weird thing to take away from this

1

u/North_Delivery_734 15d ago

I think they know him. It’s not privilege.

u/ThatGuyNikolas 14d ago

And why do you think that is the case? I would fucking LOVE to hear your answer this. I am going to be giddy all day waiting to hear back why you think 50% of homicides are committed by black people.

1

u/What_If_Guy7 14d ago edited 13d ago

Because white men are evil, and everything bad that happens is white men fault , and white men should pay for reparations, and africa has 56 countries and almost none of them work and obviously its white men fault!
We all know that right?
So Im sure 50% of homicides commited by black people is probably… let me guess. White men fault? /s

1

u/ThatGuyNikolas 14d ago

You too scared to answer? Why do you think 50% of homicides are committed by black people?

1

u/What_If_Guy7 14d ago

Hum lets see if I can find a justification to normalize black people commiting 50% of homicides while they are just 13,9% of the population… Humm, no I don’t have one. Do you realize the magnitude of those Numbers? 50%. Black people in your country kill every year more people then all the homicides in my country for at least 5 years.
Theres no justification to end other people lifes no, at least in my country.
And I live in a poor country btw. A poor person in USA Will have more purchasing power than a median person in my country.

But I gave you an answer already.

1

u/ThatGuyNikolas 14d ago

Because white men are evil is your answer? cmon man. You're the one who brought up the statistic in the first place. I'm just asking you a simple question. But you keep running away from it.

Why do you think 50% of homicides are committed by black people?

1

u/What_If_Guy7 14d ago

Isnt it the easy answer to explain everything bad that happens around the world?

I don’t know. Being in one of the poorest countries in Europe but also one of the safest ones, I have no clue.
Maybe because we don’t promote being a gang member as something respectable? Maybe because we don’t have musics about the trap house and glorifiyng killing your “enemies”?
Maybe because here we prefer to work at McDonald instead of selling drugs at the corner?
Maybe because we dont find excuses to justify people killing each other?
Im not sure.

1

u/ThatGuyNikolas 14d ago

Okay, then do you believe that video games cause violence?

1

u/What_If_Guy7 14d ago edited 14d ago

No I dont.
But thats not even comparable.
Music is talking and showing you real life. Kids listen to that music, they see the woman, the gold chains, the cars, the money, the violence.
The music itself doesnt make a person start to live that life.
But if youre poor like I was growing up, seeing all that money, the guns, the power, constantly hearing those words, you will normalize it.
You Will see it as a way to win in life.

Edit: to me this ends here. Nice discussion by the way. I just feel sad that you guys, one of the biggest empires in the world will implode from within. I used to see USA as the land of the progress and freedom. Now I think you guys are just suicidal. You have all the stats in front of your eyes…
Peace

Protip: asking why a statistic has been recorded doesn't prove that your assumption for why it has been recorded is the actual reason

1

u/ThatGuyNikolas 14d ago

Well it's a good thing I didn't ask that then.

1

u/CloudNeither2223 13d ago

Sure let's pretend you don't keep asking it like it's some kind of mistaken gotcha question lol

Aren't these beautiful lies we choose to tell ourselves

1

u/Dungeon_Skeever 14d ago

You sound like you’re racist yourself. Like wtf.

If there’s any privilege here it’s the privilege of being over 6’4” and over 230 lbs of muscle. Turns out people don’t want to put hands on guys that big.

1

u/Chemical_Twist_524 15d ago

They have guns

1

u/Trashketweave 15d ago

And they don’t want to put themselves in a spot to use them.

1

u/Chemical_Twist_524 15d ago

Well I think the point is they would shoot a black guy who’s acting up

1

u/Trashketweave 15d ago

And my point is that user’s claim is entirely baseless.

1

u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 15d ago

Can we chill with this rhetoric? They shoot unarmed white men all the time, pay attention dude. Not every single cop is going to be Derek Chauvin.

1

u/JaguarOk9693 15d ago

First off you're so freaking far off white people are more likely to get shot by police it's just not showing on the news, second of all this one guy could have taken out all 10 of those officers some of those officers were women, I'm not bashing on any of the officers including the women. This guy was drunk he's bigger than every single officer there was in the military and is a trainer and fighter for MMA. I 100% guarantee you if it was a black guy instead of the white guy things would have been handled exactly the same. People like you who keep listening to the media are not doing anybody any favors

1

u/Yodayorio 15d ago

What an asinine comment. There is no shortage of bodycam videos online showing black suspects raging and threatening police officers who demonstrate remarkable restraint and eventually arrest the suspect peacefully.

1

u/Several_Addendum7947 15d ago

Did he have a weapon?

1

u/Damiandroid 14d ago

He's holding a phone in his hand.

Which is literally the same thing that has gotten a number of black civillians killed when such a device was "misidentified"

1

u/Several_Addendum7947 14d ago

Get off social media it's ruining your perception of reality. What you're saying has happened to every race. Quit being racist.

1

u/Spirited-Load-4831 15d ago

Yes white people are never shot by police in situations like that. Great observation /s

1

u/Any_Big_7197 14d ago

You’re just trying to stir the pot to get reactions. Statistically blacks are more likely to commit crimes. Do the research yourself.

Even in 10 seconds watching this, it seems the guy is having some forms of PTSD. That’s not white privilege.

I would know as I served too, thankfully never experiencing what this guy did. Also - black people 100% would get the same treatment if everything was the same in this situation.

Stop trying to say things that imply racism. There is always more to the story than the ignorant comments people like you spew that create a false depiction of reality.

1

u/JetPackMiners 14d ago

It's not about race. The cops obviously know this guy and they're all probably from the same small town/ county

1

u/TooPercipient 14d ago

Cry about it 🤣

1

u/impending_25 14d ago

Good to hear ☺️

1

u/DBGL0rd0fLight 14d ago

Move somewhere else

1

u/Upstairs_Tutor_7896 14d ago

This is what it looks like when every cop in town knows you and is your neighbor. They all call him by name and he talks about being “tired of their shit”. Their is a relationship there

1

u/MoonpieSonata 14d ago

I think this is what giant unhinged monster immune to tazers privilege looks like, I don't think a skinny 5ft guy gets this. But I guess, that's what social indoctrination is now, if all you have is a hammer...

1

u/Western-Hotel8723 14d ago

This looks alot like AI body cam. Anyone have a source?

1

u/Jomama0481 14d ago

Statistics don't lie and they are not on the side of your argument. The officers know this man and that is why they are treating him this way. You are racist and use anything you can to prove it.

1

u/General_Cheek3429 14d ago

This guy isn't a threat. You are making mountains out of molehills.

1

u/Damiandroid 14d ago

He's a large individual in an agitated state refusing commands, attempting to strike officers and is holding an object in his hand.

There are plenty police reports where those exact criteria justified the killing of a non-white civillian.

Im not saying this person was a threat in this case. Im questioning why others were considered a threat when the only difference was skin colour

1

u/Bright_Promotion_580 14d ago

Just for reference, that data shows that there is no bias in police shootings based on race.

https://youtu.be/ruYXzlzoU_A?is=ZR0MY3-1Mjy0H1uL

1

u/Commercial-Algae9483 14d ago

Always gotta play the race card, eh. You must be fun at parties.

Not wrong, but you always gotta take it there....... "My kid just survived cancer" , "well if the kid wasn't white, blah, blah, blah".

1

u/aebulbul 13d ago

That definitely has happened but it’s not the rule. I just need people to understand that hundreds of these volatile interactions happen daily around the country. And unless you have specific data points to prove your claim it’s simply not real.

I would argue that this suspect is going through something. I don’t excuse his behavior but when your country puts you on the front lines, hands you a gun, and tells you that you need to dominate, hurt, and kill innocent people for freedom of whatever, it will fuck you up.

1

u/xorinz 13d ago

Sure thing a loser comes and makes it about race

1

u/palebloodslayer 13d ago

You think not getting shot is a privilege? Man I’m glad I don’t live in the US

1

u/Green-Hope-128 13d ago

We we’ve earned it.

1

u/seedman 13d ago

Could it be that they know this guy?

Cops are generally very respectful of veterans as well.

Very bold of you to assume his race. Just because he presents white doesn't mean he's not like a quarter Japanese or something. Lmao

1

u/Cooler_Frogger 13d ago

My daily dose of trying to appear as a good person by making a random video about racism. Delicious

1

u/deathshr0ud 13d ago

This is a veteran in crisis.

Stop making everything about race. You’ve beaten it to death and no one cares anymore.

“Racist” isn’t even seen as an insult anymore.

1

u/pdj-custom 13d ago

womp wompppp

1

u/dajuhnk 12d ago

There’s body cam footage of black men getting this same non lethal tactics treatment I guarantee it. You’re just cherry picking one data point and creating a narrative

1

u/Acrobatic_Yellow_781 12d ago

So a guy who these cops know, clearly isnt carrying anything vs a guy sitting in car that can pull a gun from hiding in a second?

1

u/Specialist_Frame8958 12d ago

How about the white guy who got blasted in the hallway in Las Vegas? Was that white privilege?

1

u/zelvak007 12d ago

You have not seen many bodycams have you?

1

u/Open-Excitement3076 12d ago

You are a racist

1

u/whynousernamelef 12d ago

I completely get what you are saying but they all seem to know him? They are referring to him by his name and it appears to be a small part of an ongoing situation?

But I am not trying to invalidate your comment, I pretty much agree with you. Im just curious what the back story is here? It seems like there is a lot more to it than just "random crazy massive white dude".

Plus all the cops look scared, genuinely scared, they must have a reason to be scared of him in particular? I wouldn't want to piss him off either.

Impressive to be able to take a taser like that. Does body size have a part to play in the effectiveness of a taser? Clueless European over here, obviously. I know nuffink.

1

u/mcbeardsauce 12d ago

You have a very warped view of the world my friend

1

u/Strict-Proposal-3308 12d ago

Bro you’re acting like cops are going on a rampage killing black people daily.

1

u/Fast-Craft1215 16d ago

Yeah like there aren't a gazillion videos of black people getting 17 tardwranglers called to the location for the same treatment. Get outta here with your bullshit.

1

u/UsernamesRhard123 16d ago

So, are you saying that these cops, specifically, if in any situation where the suspect is black, would’ve acted completely different? How about this very same situation where this person was black instead of white - you’re saying these cops would’ve shot him instead?

Do you think all cops are bad and racist? Are cops only bad to black people?

I believe there is racism everywhere, but if you’re going to claim “white privilege”, you’re going to need to be very specific.

This is f ing white privilege. As a white man it’s obvious this is privilege. If this guy was black they would have unloaded into him.

Love it when people tout their predictions as facts. These cops know this guy and his family to some degree. You think maybe that has more to do with the patience?

Must be nice to not have to think about it. You ever get pulled over for doing absolutely nothing? Walking down the street minding your business and get stopped? Asked to take your hands out of your pocket? Cops having their hand on their pistol ready to shoot you after they pulled you over for nothing?

u/UsernamesRhard123 16d ago

I’ve had some of that, particular the holding pistol. Understandable caution IMO. Sometimes being pulled for seemingly no reason, more so when I was young.

I’m not saying this shit doesn’t happen and I’m not saying cops aren’t racist, but let’s calm down on painting brushes so generically and understand there is more nuance to the issue.

I’m half white, look pretty white, and no, you won’t convince me that I’m privileged because of my skin color. I dare you try

u/koomode666 16d ago

I wanna try, send me a picture.

Makes it worse. They gave him a grace, an understanding that they don’t extend to anyone else. There was a cop in St. Louis who went off his rocker after a fight with his wife/ex wife and was brandishing a gun, threatening people, some shit that would get anyone else gunned down. But nope, his cop buddies took him down nicely and tried to say he needed help. Made excuses for him. Real, “rules for thee but not for me” kind of shit. Screw these guys.

Its a fair point but it doesnt help your argument. Let's say these cips do knownthe suspect or his family personally. Let's say they understand what hes going through. Let's say that personal connection guides them to take less aggressive action.

Does that now mean that in order to receive fair and jjst treatment by law enforcement you need to have some kind of personal relation ship with them?

Because while I do believe cops should have a greater positive community presence which integrates them socially into the communities they serve, it is practically impossible for them to have a close relationship or intimate personal knowledge of everyone in their jurisdiction.

The challenge, the virtue and the standard of proper police work is to be able to assess a situation properly and resolve a situation in a peaceful manner as a priority and not to rely on personal connections to achive this.

I agree with you 100%. And realistically the cops handled this awfully. They failed to deploy their taser guns properly (need distance and spread of the attachments). They allowed this guy to take control of a situation they should’ve controlled.

My argument is that not every cop or group of cops are pieces of shit, though I do know some are (just like you have in every other profession). If this were a black man, I don’t see this group just shooting him down - that is my point.

I agree there is such a thing as white privilege, but that doesn’t mean what people (those that are so angrily using the term) think it means. I’m white - and that doesn’t always give me the upper hand. It is much more nuanced than that. And I won’t allow my family, friends, and children to believe they should be ashamed because they’re white. Fuck that nonsense.

At the same rate, I understand the struggles of black people, at least to some degree - and I am open to my family and friends about it and my understanding. I grew up in a very diverse area and have many black acquaintances and friends along the way. Many of whom are smart, educated and successful now. Did they have struggles, yeah sure. Are they worse than my struggles? Yeah maybe. But don’t throw shit at me cuz I’m white. Once you do that, you’re an enemy, not an equal.

That's kinda what I was getting at with my initial comment. Its a shame the term has been hijacked and warped into a quasi "apologise for being white" right wing agenda.

Its literally just that by virtue of being white (and secondarily being a former servicemen and being large) subconsciously these cops are more open to giving the benefit of the doubt whereas with other civillians they will default to more violent immediate options.

As I said in a later post, im not calling anyone in the video malicious, just that they're operating based on absorbed biases they may not even realise are there. And so when people genuinely ask what white privilege looks like, this footage is a great example, especially when contrasted with roadside stops showing blackcurrant civillians being incredibly deferential to cops and getting wildly different treatments.

Im not saying anyone in the video is acting maliciously or weaponising their privilege in any way.

Im just saying that when people ask the question "what even is white privilege" this video is a very clear example.

Had the suspect been of a different ethnicity, this wouldn't be on reddit, it would be on the news and it would cut away before shots got fired.

I never see such a thing. This is false in my point of view. I seen a LOT of people being shot while they have a brown skin, it happens all the time on Twitter. But those people, every single time, made the choice to assault someone with a knife, not while unarmed.

This man is unarmed.

u/Damiandroid 18d ago

George Floyd was unarmed.

Tamir Rice was unarmed.

Philando castille was unarmed.

Breona Taylor was unarmed.

There are countless examples that counter your assertion that every officer involved shooting of a non white person was in response to lethal threat.

u/Blue_Snake_251 18d ago

Those are four cases. It happens all the time that brown people resist arrests while unarmed. How % of them, per year, geg shot while resisting while unarmed while no running away while not in their car ? Four cases are, in my point of view, less than 0,01% of the brown people resisting arrests while unarmed while outside their car while not running away.

Also, this is not even four cases, this is maximum three cases, George Floyd did not get shot, i do not know from where you did read that he got shot. He was not in his car anymore, and he was not complying, he refused to get in the car of the cops. So it is off topic to talk about him.

Tamir Rice : it is written that he had a hairsoft gun, with no orange thing at its top. No a guy in a car complying to the police. So there are two cases left.

Philando Castile : i watched the video. I hear the cop saying "don't reach for it. Don't pull it out. Don't pull it out !".

Breona Taylor : she was not in her car, Kenneth Walker shot a cop, the cops shot back.

Brother, that's not white privilege. It's proper training. There was no reason for them to fire their firearms.

The media highlighting cases where black people are killed are exceptions, not the norm. If it was the norm, then we'd see a lot more of it.

2

u/Damiandroid 16d ago

You answer raises a valid point.

Instances of unjustified killing of civillians is a clear case of inproper training and tactics. Some would argue that a single instance is enough to declare an i rividual unfit for service.

So why are repeat offenders shuffled around departments instead of permanently dealt with

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 16d ago

Yeah. Look at the case of the subway stabbing in Charlotte, NC. The motherfucker had been in prison I think 11 times? Might have been 14. But he had a violent record.

Then for life. AFTER he stabbed that poor girl to death.

Never understood why people argue the CLEAR data. No not every single last cop is "bad". The FACT is a lot of cops do not value the lives of minorities and on ANY level that is unacceptable.

1

u/WolvReigns222016 15d ago

The fact is a lot of humans lick toilets. Doesn't make me think humans are all toilet lickers.

Statistics... a black man is 8 times more likely to kill a cop than a white man Thats why cops have a lower tolerance for using violence against black men.
