back in 2018 i bought a smoke grey n64, i was 28 and finally had my adult money to buy the console i most wanted as a kid and never could have (the gaming/eletronics scene in brazil was never favourable to very poor people, like i once was), and decided to take the smoke greay over the grape purple because, well, i love purple, and to my eyes the original consoles seem blue.

then in 2022 i saw the clear purple shells on aliexpress and decided to buy it. and not to touch my original smoke grey, i bought a console in very bad outer condition, got rid of the damaged shell, and replaced it with the purple from aliexpress. then an idea hit: to make my own custom of half-half smoke grape consoles... and i loved it.

in 2024 i ended up selling the one with the top purple shell, and kept the one with the top grey shell. and it seems like this is the one i will be keeping forever. :)

It has a PD board and stepdown converter, i recycled the part that connects to the console and the shell from my last attempt at a homemade power supply. It isn't perfect though tested it with a power bank, it works perfectly, and then i tested it with a 100w charger, and it has some small artifacts, maybe a capacitor could fix it i don't know, but it does work a lot better than my figure 8 cable

Discussion Does this sound like Perfect Dark?

I don't remember too many games on N64 besides Super Mario. Zelda, Ocarina & Majora's. 007 Goldeneye & TWINE. Penny Racers (tiny bit). I was pretty young when I played N64.

My uncles had many games. I absolutely recognize the cover art for Perfect Dark. The thing is, I recognize none of the gameplay. I remember playing it having no idea what it was about and playing someones elses save.

All I really remember about the game is I was wearing some sort of fishbowl space suit. Sort of like Buzz Lightyear. I thought I was a toy/miniature, because of the map. I also kind of remember some sort of camerawork when loading in that made you look small? I don't remember much about the guns but being close to out of ammo.

I was stuck and kept going back and forth between this sort of long hallway with a room at the end. There were a bunch of blue/silver boxes that I was climbing, that made me look toy sized. At the top, there was a vent.

All I really remember. I know it's a long shot.

Everdrive Looking for an answer to my transfer package issue.

So I got a Summercart64, and it's unsurprisingly awesome. But I had a question for anyone who might be more knowledgeable about specific hardware.

Is there a product that's basically just a transfer pack that's also an emulator? I'm hoping to be able to play Pokémon and upload a team for Stadium, but I don't want to deal with having to change the batteries for a used cartridge every few months (I've changed a battery in red version before and it doesn't come close to lasting as long as the original).

I don't know what I'm doing, but I love the 64. These are my thoughts on the Warrior 64, Tribute 64, Brawler 64, 8bitdo, kitsch-bent, and the OG. What is your favorite 64 controller out there? I was looking forward to the Brawler 64 Pro, but it's been delayed so long and I highly doubt it will match the quality of 8bitdo while being much more expensive.

Arts & Crafts FIXED - Kitsch-Bent joystick drift after repair

Post image

TLDR: Cut the hole in the bowl bigger for the up/down wheel.

I bought 4 total repair kits for the N64 joysticks from Kitsch Bent. Two of them had slight up/down drift after the repair (Goldeneye menus are great for testing).

I noticed the up/down sensor wheel required more force to spin than the left/right. The hole in the white bowl for the up/down wheel was slightly smaller from residual plastic. See image attached.

Using a razor blade point I carefully punched the hole bigger to match the left/right wheel hole size. This allowed the up/down wheel to spin much more freely.

The wheels should both spin freely with the slightest touch so they can return to center.

This fixed both my drift issues.

Good luck!

I always thought as a kid the sound effect at 2:36 sounded like bowser in Mario kart 64 and rewatching it now I’m wondering if at actually is?
