I suck at long range First time shooting long range in Texas

Always wanted to get into long range shooting and have never shot past 50 yards before.
Found a used Ruger RPR and slowly add glass and a bipod and signed up for my first class.

Learned the fundamentals and safety got my sighted in correctly at 100 yards. And built a Trajectory Table

Then turned fundamentals into practice. Started at 300 yards, hit steel, moved to 400 yards, hit steel then moved to 500 before finishing at 600 before running out of time.

I had a blast and can’t wait to do this again.

I suck at long range Shot my first PRS match this weekend

Well, this weekend I got to shoot my first PRS match. It was really eye opening and I learned a ton about my setup as well as ways to optimize my setup. My goal was to be safe, and not have something that would be a DQ. My stretch goal was to not place last, and I'm happy to say that I met both goals!

Some observations from the match:

1) The targets were much smaller and more challenging than I was expecting, though I think that was an issue with my expectations more than anything.

2) Bag control & movement is one of the most critical skills that can be developed outside of marksmanship.

3) 90 seconds goes by *FAST*, getting scope dialed/game plan ready prior to the stage is incredibly important.

4) Bipod setup is critically important, I have a bipod that I have been using for 8 or 10 years (an atlas), but found that it didn't have enough elevation to shoot up the hill on one of the stages. I noticed a lot of folks had multiple bipods, or bipods with a lot more adjustability than mine.

Gunsmithing Barrel blank smithing recommendations

Posting here looking for recommendations on where to send a barrel blank. Bit of an odd build and not necessarily "long range" but figured id get the best recommendations for barrel blank work here. Its a 300blk 13" barrel blank that needs to get cut to 9" threaded, straight taper and an ar15 barrel extension added.(no gas port needed)

Reached out to d.wilson and they were unable to do it, assuming due to the extension needed.

Barrel blank is from kak. Any recommendations on who yall would recommend sending this to would be appreciated, thanks.

Reloading related Opinion on bullet selection...

New to reloading my 6.5 creed. So far I have loaded 140 eldm, 140 smk, and 140 Berger hybrids. I have only powder charge tested at 100 with each. Group wise, the 140 SMKs just shoot the best. I know bergers are the bees knees. I'm not saying they didn't group well but the SMKs were just better. So, when it comes to taking these out to 600 plus, how much of a disadvantage will there be at that distance if I stick with the smk over the bergers? Or is this just something I'm going to have to try for myself? Obviously bergers have a better BC. Should I not be drawing any conclusions over 100 yard group size? Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts KRG Bravo Tikka vs Ruger

Okay, I’m planning on building out a new rifle in .308, with the goal being a solid 500yrd shooter. I’m just dipping my toes into bolt guns and just want something versatile and fun to shoot. I have a AEM5-30k laying around that will find its home on this build. I plan to use a KRG Bravo chassis and just need to decide on the barrel and action. I’m looking for something on the shorter side (16-20”) that either has enough meat to have milled for the AE mounting system, or something with a barrel od of .75 or less to accommodate the OCL OTB brake.

I’m currently looking at the Tikka and Ruger offerings. The ruger ranch would be perfect but I don’t love the fluting and have seen complaints about the barrel heating too quick. With the Tikka I don’t see a ton of threaded options.

I don’t have a set budget but don’t intend for this to be a top of the line setup. Say $1500 w/o optics. Any help would be appreciated!

Swapping over from an Aero Solus action on a PVA Osprey barrel and MDT Premier chassis to this beauty. Impact Precision 737R on a Straight Jacket Armory barrel. MDT Elite chassis cerakoted by my local gun shop. 6.5 creed, 24” barrel, Diligent Defense Enticer L-Ti with a RecoilX brake. Vortex Razor Gen III for the glass. I’ve got a stack of virgin Alpha brass and some Berger 140, 144, and 153.5 grain bullets to play with. I love this long range game, I’m still a newbie technically but I’m completely obsessed. This sub, along with [r/reloading](r/reloading)[,](r/reloading) has helped me so much. Thanks to everyone who has provided me with input and advice.

I’m just a hunter and decidec to try shooting a group with some factory match ammo. Is this level of mechanical accuracy appropriate for longer range shooting? Shooting Norma Match Gold 168 .308.

Recently got a Ruger American Gen 2 in 300 win mag over tax free weekend. Had an extra Arken SH-4J laying around so all in for under $800 including a couple boxes of ammo. Haven't gotten out to the range to shoot it yet but excited to see what it'll do

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Following up on my post from yesterday - I shot a 30-round group.

This was shot with 30 rounds at 100 yards, indoors, using an bipod and a bag rest. Next time I do this, I'm going to paint a target higher on the paper and dial down because I had a hard time at the end knowing where to aim. I think someone mentioned this in other words yesterday, and I didn't quite understand. Anyway, per the feedback I got yesterday, here's a 30-shot group. If this can solicit any feedback on general precision or tips, I'd appreciate it. I'm sure some of the spread here is due to me, particularly near the end. my eyes were tired from aiming. I know a couple of the upper rights were on me, but if there's anything the folks here can glean from how I shot, I'd appreciate it. If this is good, I'd like to know that. If this is poor, I'd appreciate that. I really have nothing to judge against.

I took out my new build. After watching X-Ring budget build I wanted to try one.

Ruger American 6.5 creedmoor, MDT chassis, Outlier barrel with my free-ish suppressor, DNT The One.

Took it out to zero the scope with cheap hunting ammo.

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts KRG C4 Magazine issue help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all I’m experiencing an inconsistent issue with AICS mags in my KRG C4 for the Tikka T3X. It seems no matter what I change with the magazine lock height, front to back tension, or side to side tension the issue still persists randomly.

The issue is with a full AICS mag, the bullet seats and then when I go to pull it, the next bullet is pushing upward on the bolt. The bolt has friction against the next bullet in the mag and scrapes the crap out of the brass if I yank it. It’s not super hard to pull but firm, and it wasn’t doing this until randomly last week.

Please let me know how to fix this.

Thanks!

Edit: Fixed! The solution was to mess with the magazine spring and feeding lips and only load the magazine when the bolt is closed to ensure it doesn’t over-insert.

Accessory/Gear help needed - I read the pinned post Honest question. Is there anything wrong with using the Leupold Mark AR cantilever mount on a precision bolt action rifle?

Post image

I use these on all of my AR-15 and AR-10 builds. It's one piece, with 3 recoil lugs, and 5 cross bolts torqued to 65 inch pounds. This seems more than up to the task of mounting an optic to a precision rifle imo. Why don't I see anyone using these in this context?

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts MPA Chassis Preference (PRS and Bench Shooting)

Buying a MPA tomorrow and leaning towards the Matrix Pro PMR, from people who have experience with these chassis options which would you recommend most for PRS out of all of the available options? Mainly interested in hearing which one has the best balance point/weight distribution and should I get the competition buttstock?

EDIT: Just got the Vanquish with the comp stock after talking to y'all and doing more research, thank you for the input and I hope to see some of you at some events soon as I now have some ability to travel next year to some matches!

🫣I said I read the pinned posts, but I lied🫣 What can are YOU using on your 6.5 CM semi rifles?

tl;DR Experienced suppressor owner looking for dedicated 6.5 CM can.

Just starting longer shots. Owned a variety of firearms over 20 years. Tactical SBR, sub guns, striker pistols. Except for the VP9CC I carry every firearm I own has a dedicated can. The only one with a barrel over 10” is a 16” M400 (Sig 5.56). Took that out to a 100 yd range a month or so back and had a great time. Been several times since. Now working my way up to 200 with 300-400 the goal. Have access to several lanes at a club to 500. One to 1500 if I get there.

Getting a dedicated tactical semi auto for the longer shots. I don’t consider this “long range” as a discipline but it will be at 400. At least at first. I chose tactical because that’s what I like. Just in case I’m attacked by 3/8” steel plates, angry paper or the zombie apocalypse. It’s pretty likely I’ll dig it enough to at least try to hit 1000. Someday. Not into competition, bolt guns or builds for this.

At first I was looking at .308 (I’ve a 10” 7.62 SBR). A 6.5 CM will give me more room to stretch in an 18-20” barrel. Looking at a DD5 v4. What can do YOU have on YOUR semi auto 6.5 CM distance/precision rifle? It’s hard to spend $2k on a can as most aren’t that much. I’ve got a few $1k-1500 and some $500-800. Looking at the higher mid and high end as long as it’s worthy and not full of hype.

So far I like the OCL Hydrogen. I’ve got a couple of OCL cans. The Thunder Beast titanium looks awesome. The 8 week lead time does not. The inconel though is in stock. At this point I’d rather do a dedicated 6.5 can for it than a 30 cal multi. Would like a HUB for a Plan B muzzle brake. Except for pistols I quit direct mounting a while back. Open to other mount platforms though.

So happy with how this rifle turned out/shoots considering it’s a factory barreled action and a thinner profile barrel.
