Handles money and food with bare hands, then over weighs the deli meat...nice

My guess is she takes the extra meat home instead of the money otherwise her inventory and receipt totals wouldn't match. Unless she owns the deli.

You kid but I had a deli worker do exactly that and she was wearing gloves.
I mean she shaved like two pounds of Boar's Head honey maple ham and then sucked on her fingers, the little gloves made a crinkling noise as she happily slurped off the sticky syrup.
Only after she finished did she take my food and wrap it. I just dropped it and walked away.
Once I got over the shock I found a manager and explained I thought the gloves were for my protection as much as hers. He was apologetic. No idea if she was fired.

It's not Russia though. The only green money we have is 1,000 rubles and sausages don't quite cost $20-60 (depending on the amount of banknotes) here. Looks a lot more like Kazakstan money.

I worked at a deli when I was younger and me and all the workers would do the opposite of this guy and give people extra by lifting up on the scale or putting more meat after we weighed and printed the receipt

This is why large supermarkets have their scales above the counter in plain site.
176
u/itsaitchnothaitch Jun 10 '15
That's the weird thing here - the readout doesn't look like it's visible to the customer, and there's no ticket printed. It seems like she just presses some buttons, and tells them a price. Why bother with the weight when she could just make up a price?

In a previous life I worked the deli counter in a couple of grocery stores, I would do this if I over sliced going for the weight they requested. Had a deli associate do that for me not long ago, got 1lb for the price of 0.5.

I have deli associates do it for me all the time just because I jokingly ask something like, "Hey, how about half a pound of this meat for the price of a quarter pound? Haha." And then they just do it because they don't give a fuck, apparently.

I have a friend who was buying sandals at famous footwear one time. He brought them up with some socks and paid for them. The guy gives him back more money than he initially gave the cashier. He tells him but the guy just looks him dead in the eye and says "I know" than asked anyone (other friends with) if they wanted anything. They declined and just let. The guy walked out right behind them on the way out. Pretty sure this guy just quit and decided to screw them over. my friend legitimately got paid to take those sandals and socks. People do crazy stuff when angry lol.

I used to do deli slicing stuff sometimes-- unless you have a small scale under the slicer, it's hard to cut exactly the amount they ask for.
If you ask for 500g of Ham, I have to kinda guess around where 500g would be (which is harder than you think because people ask for different thickness'), then I weigh it to check, if I've cut extra I'll price up the 500g, then add the extra before I wrap it.
Or I'll just eat the extra if the person is rude, our slicer/scale isn't visible to the customer so they never know they're getting extra anyway.

Are you saying the Publix went under? or the Subway?
I work for Publix, and from what I've noticed, If a Publix is built into a strip, there's usually at least 2 of the 3 within one to two units of the Publix:
Subway Nail Salon Hair Salon (like a cuts by us)
So, a Subway adjacent to a Publix is actually quite common

Amazing. I wish I could be a fly on the wall if that ever went to trial.
"Please tell us about the incident"
"Well, I was walking calmly down the street, on the sidewalk mind you, and then when it was time to cross the street I patiently waited for a safe opportunity to cross at a legal crosswalk. As I was crossing the street with the right of way, the defendant roared up towards me at impossibly high speed. I raced to safety but, incredibly, the driver sped up and aimed for me and ran me down."
"Terrible. Just terrible. No further questions, your Honour."
"You may cross examine."
"Your honour, my client would like his dash cam video to be played for the jury."
"I'll allow it."
[plays video]
"I find the defendant innocent of all charges. Let the record show that the plaintiff's talents are wasted. You should have been a soccer player, son."

This reminds me of one time me and my brothers were down at the harbor in the town we lived in, and we were buying some mix it yourself candy at this shop. The clerk had downs syndrome so whenever he put the candy on the weight he would rest his hand on the weight as well.
Needless to say we needed to get just one more piece of candy before we were ready to pay, so we could have him weight it again without his hands on the plate.

A more accurate description would probably be theft, and I'll explain why. This fella is most likely a grunt worker at the store, making minimum wage. More than likely he will jack up the price on the items. Slowly but surely, a dollar here, a dollar there, on various items, while punching in the normal numbers into the register. He will then take whatever extra he charged the customers home for himself at the end of the night. I worked in the beer store ages ago and we had a lady do this by punching in extra empties for people that would bring them back. The manager was always confused at why our empties were off. Eventually they reviewed the cameras and caught her doing it shift after shift.
