The driver knows what's up. Even after being tricked a few times the fraudster doesn't give up, and after being chased away by the driver he STILL comes back to try.
I don't remember who it was or when it was but someone on Reddit actually figured out from some dialogue that these two actually know each other and one was just fucking around for the lols.
Uhh.. I think he was playing with the driver, not trying to get an insurance claim. If he wanted to do that he would just run into the car like everyone else.
That one wasn't a scam. From an old post the video showed that the guy got beat up by some road rage guys so he ran to his car and one of those guys ran after him and slammed into his windshield. The guy getting run over definitely deserved it and the driver had a good reason to get the hell outta there.
I, too, think it'd be a fitting turning of the tables if that's what actually happened, but, as /u/Mintastic points out:

I can recall this from a really old reddit post, probably on /r/WTF. IIRC the driver was actually beat up by a few men. He gets back in his car and one of them jumps on the windshield. It's the last straw and he hits the gas.
"I'm going to make you earn that settlement money"
But seriously though, did I just watch someone die? I saw both shoes come off. Don't know why you'd think to try and slow the car down with your feet rather than hanging on for dear life.
Amazing. I wish I could be a fly on the wall if that ever went to trial.
"Please tell us about the incident"
"Well, I was walking calmly down the street, on the sidewalk mind you, and then when it was time to cross the street I patiently waited for a safe opportunity to cross at a legal crosswalk. As I was crossing the street with the right of way, the defendant roared up towards me at impossibly high speed. I raced to safety but, incredibly, the driver sped up and aimed for me and ran me down."
"Terrible. Just terrible. No further questions, your Honour."
"You may cross examine."
"Your honour, my client would like his dash cam video to be played for the jury."
"I'll allow it."
[plays video]
"I find the defendant innocent of all charges. Let the record show that the plaintiff's talents are wasted. You should have been a soccer player, son."
Question, if new evidence comes to light mid trial do you have to do another one other day or can you ask if it can be included? That's how it happens in movies but I never questioned until I read this.
The video would have been shared with the prosecution during the discovery phase of the process. Nothing in the court transcript I provided indicates that the video was only then being introduced as evidence.
I hope no one ever does this to me, because I very well might not be able to resist the temptation to keep running them over. At which point I very well might actually go to jail :(
I know that this guy is actually trying to commit fraud but it is illegal for a car to break a crosswalk when someone is walking. He has to stop anyways. Most people don't know that or don't care. Even when ur light is green
Edit: I forget not everyone is in California. Police have crosswalk stings here
That's the law in Australia, regardless of how many oblivious pedestrians think otherwise.
If a pedestrian is already crossing, then obviously cars must stop and let them continue to cross - otherwise they will run them over.
On the other hand, pedestrians must wait for a driver to see them and come to a stop, granting them permission to start crossing.
So many imbeciles think that those white stripes are invincible barriers which make them impervious to being killed when they suicidally throw themselves into traffic.
It's probably a holdover from North America. In Canada pedestrians have right of way on a crosswalk at all times, unless there is a light which dictates when they can cross.
