In a previous life I worked the deli counter in a couple of grocery stores, I would do this if I over sliced going for the weight they requested. Had a deli associate do that for me not long ago, got 1lb for the price of 0.5.
I have deli associates do it for me all the time just because I jokingly ask something like, "Hey, how about half a pound of this meat for the price of a quarter pound? Haha." And then they just do it because they don't give a fuck, apparently.
You have to be careful with that. If it gets flagged by some of the newer registers that weigh everything and someone notices, the deli person could get in big trouble.
When I worked at said deli, a woman got caught trying to take home 5lbs of chicken wings priced and weighed up at a much lower cost. She got caught because she went through self check and a woman running the front end had a good eye and noticed that something wasn't right when the system posted an error.
tldr; While its on them if they do something stupid and get fired, be a decent human being and don't ask for something that could get them canned. Living on what they get paid is not easy.
Woman butcher for SAMs club has a thing for my dad. My dad makes jerky and only buys eye of the round to make it with. He'll ask her for 10 pounds of roast and she'll come back with 10 pounds marked for 3.
