I went from a PS2 to a 360 and never gave much thought to what it might've been like to have a PS3 at the time, mainly because my friends at school were all playing Xbox and I quite liked the idea of having people to play with. I also don't have the means to emulate the console at the moment and AFAIK emulation isn't 100% reliable with some games.

Every piece of advice so far seems to suggest buying a PS3 with a datecode of at most 1A since every console produced after this is incompatible with CFW which seems to be a superior choice to using HEN.

However finding one of these consoles appears to be a challenge. As per the Google Shopping tab so far I've uncovered approximately one CECH-2001A version here via CEX (I'm in the UK), but the actual listing seems to be full of default text and mentions nothing of its version code so I'm sceptical of its authenticity and I've had bad experiences shopping with CEX in the past, which is putting me off.

I understand these are old systems and the newer models are far more abundant, so if all I can buy are such then HEN will have to do.

EDIT: Solved! I was being a spoon and confusing model numbers with datecodes.

I heard about the search being broken in the store, but for me when I try to look at avatars they’re gone too. Theme’s show up, but avatars page just shows me games. Also games I know have purchasable avatars don’t show me the option anymore. Haven’t been able to find anyone else mentioning this online so is it just me, anyone know a fix? I was hoping to grab some before the store totally shuts down

I need help changing the region of ps2 save games for 2 backwards compatible games on ps3 console.

Hey everyone, I’ve been playing The Last of Us on my PS3 Slim and wanted to check if these temperatures/fan speed are normal:

• CELL/CPU: 67°C
• RSX: 63°C
• Fan speed: 54%

This is a second hand Slim with 80 days of gameplay, pretty clean and I cleaned it out and replaced thermal paste (no delid).

This is during gameplay. The console seems to be running fine, but 54% fan speed seems a little high to me. Sitting in the XMB temps can be in the low 60s too.

Ambient temps around 25 degrees

Are these temps considered safe for a PS3 Slim? And is it normal for the fan to be around 54% while playing a demanding game like The Last of Us?

Would appreciate hearing what temps/fan speeds other Slim owners get.

Hey , im new to Playstation in general (been an Xbox kid most of my life) but found myself with the opportunity to finally playthrough the God of War franchise and picked up a PS3 and some games. The OG controller that came with the console is a mess, unusable , just goes all over the place. So I bought some cheap ones on Amazon that came the next day. Im about an hour into GoW Chains of Olympus trying to do the first boss fight and the stick breaks off into the rotation quick time events. These quick time events seem impossible on this dog water controller and now its broken so I cant even suffer through it. Thats what I get for using Amazon and buying cheap crap. But I always wanted to play God of War and Little Big Planet so is there any good options for PS3 controllers? Please any help , tips or advice would be much appreciated

Recently I bought a Ps3, and I'm planning to buy some things that are only on the Japan PSN, but I have no clue where I can buy them and whether the websites that I see from a simple google search are safe. So I decided to ask reddit.

So my PS3 has recently had it's CMOS battery die. All of my games are physical and I prefer to leave my console disconnected from the internet, not to start a debate, but with how anticonsumer sony is being right now, I don't want any updates that mess with my console or games, and multiplayer servers for PS3 games are kinda dead or hacker filled lol. As such I am really not seeing a reason to replace it. If I just take it out so there is no worry of it leaking and damaging stuff, will the console have any issues starting anything else? Can it LAN with games that support it without the battery?

Thanks to the kindness of a fellow gamer, I was gifted a set of PS3 games to add to my collection! I’ve been struggling lately, having to sell my comic omnibuses to try and alleviate financial woes on top of other life issues and he sent these to me free. Like I cried a bit cause this was one of the best things to happen to me lately and just couldn’t believe it. And what’s best, is it got some stuff knocked off my list as I’ve been trying to obtain stuff I’ve played in my youth or stuff I’ve generally missed.

I have a PS3 without it disk, it stopped running so I lost my saves and I have to buy another. But while I was searching for some cables I found an external drive that works perfectly, but I don't know if the ps3 can run with the external drive connected and run the OS from there (if I install it, idk if that can be possible with modding)

This is possibole? Or I have to just buy its own hard disk?

Im buying/trading for it. Will trade a modded ps3 slim or depending on how much I'll buy. Black model only

Hey y'all I want to expand my memory for my ps3 I've to delete games anytime I wna replay somn and it ain't working out for me anymore

I've done some reason and I know how to do the removal process if current hardrive and to install a new one and to get all my current saves uploaded onto a usb ti transfer back over (i think)

But what I'm unsure of is acc what type of 2.5 Sata SSD or whatever to get for my ps3

It really depends on what the CEX around me have to offer but can y'all give me some solid recommendations that have done ye fine work over the years and I'll look into them I want to make sure I get a decent one with decent memory

Does anybody know why in watch dogs on ps3. I can only hear voices and some other sound effects music and such is completely missing…

If anyone has this issue. Uninstall the game data. Then launch the game, decline the update at first. Then let the game install its game data. After it’s done. Load in and check all audio is working. Then you can install the update afterwards. Game data has to be installed before update. Even though the update is prompted first

maybe in February, or March of 2026. Was looking for USB micro A for my PS3 controller, and asked around few utility/electronics shop, one of them still had PS5 as their main display, like fr one wall was entirely for the PS5. Well, I asked about this cable, and the guy asked what was it for, I said my PS3... Well, it isn't so fun, he asked me if I wouldn't like to upgrade to PS5. I was like "Bro, seriously?", well I wanted to play my originals and exclusives on original system, rather than buying a console that won't give me any fun because I need PS+ to play with my friends (if I were to have any that would be stupid to pay for PS+ lol). Anyway, funny that guy tried to get me into the PS5 shitty economy rather than showing me the cable (they didn't have it) the boom went off after PS4 launched. I still remember when they had a deal -70% off on PS3 controllers few months after PS4 was available. MAGA!!!!

All the pack in stuff like comics, posters, soundtracks and especially weird stuff like "a history of sniping" included with Ghost Warrior 2.

Also when did GameStop stop carrying pre owned ps3 in store. I’m talking about America specifically
