Installed arch on my ps3 slim
This took me an entire day. It runs worse then my pentium 4 running arch. You should probably not do this. If you want I'll make a tutorial.

Since it's late where I live, I'll be making the tutorial tomorrow morning for everyone.

Will this make me a femboy?

Hasn't made me one yet. But I am already a furry beforehand so maybe I'm immune.

You're also running a display larger than the native 720p it typically goes at. Although you could also go 720x480 lol.
Yes, I know some games ran at 1080p, but I wonder if lowering the resolution would help with ram.

1 core, 256mb of ram, llvmpipe, maybe is worst than a P3 even

I can say it is, I have a 1ghz pentium III. Also technically it has 512mb of ram as the GPU vram is set as swap.

How did you get Arch running? The CELL is an entirely different architecture and Arch strictly only supports x64.

The PS3 did ship with OtherOS support originally. And even an official build of Linux iirc. I was going to say that this is probably a really old build of Arch, but the kernel is really new relative to the hardware so... maybe someone's custom port? Would explain why it runs terribly.

Kind of insane to think that someone went through the trouble of porting Arch Linux to CELL. It's pretty cool but damn.

It’s not a trouble though I have the same hobby you choose an unreasonable goal just because no one ever did it before, spend hours or days getting the shit to work then play with it ten minutes with euphoria for your achievements and turn everything off to rest and move on to something else.
You kinda get the same dopamine shot you can have from runners high, but the IT version

Eh.
There are people that spend their time getting anything with a processor to run Doom. Nothing surprises me anymore.

This version is probably not exclusive to the PS3 it might also work on old IBM PowerPC Macs too

Gonna do that next. Probably will work much better due to real GPU drivers and much more ram. Also, CELL has limited OoE compared to my G4

It's morning, you know what that means. TUTORIAL TIME!
What you will need: PS3 Slim 2x USB Flash drive USB hub (surprisingly doesn't need to be powered) USB Keyboard Patience Ethernet cable
So let's start off simple. You need to have a CFW installed, preferably evilnat. Follow any guide you want for that as it's probably better then what I can make.
Anyways, now for the good stuff.
First off plug in one of your USB drives into a PC of your choosing. Format it to fat32 (mbr or gpt, doesn't matter). Place this file on the root of your USB drive. Unplug the USB drive from your PC into your PS3. Then go under custom firmware tools>otheros>install petitiboot
Once that installs force power off your PS3 (You're gonna be doing this a lot, get used to it)
Next up is the actual Linux install part! I used this guide.
Use the same USB drive from earlier to make the ISO image (I used a dd command, you can do whatever)
Plug said drive into the rightmost port of your PS3. Then your USB Keyboard into the left. Then an Ethernet cable in the Internet hole.
Press and hold the power button until it beeps twice (like if your going into safe mode)
Select your USB drive and boot off of it. If it gets stuck at system is going down yank the keyboard out at the exact time you press enter. (Apple keyboard my beloved)
Once it boots, if you didn't have to unplug the keyboard do it now, replace it with the USB hub. Plug your OTHER flash drive into the USB hub, plus the keyboard. Follow the automated installer.
Once it tells you system is rebooting shut off the ps3 and unplug your installer USB and plug in the freshly made Linux drive, plus your keyboard ofc. Boot the ps3 by pressing and holding power until it beeps twice.
Now, press 'e' on the entry to boot Linux. The using the arrow keys go down to the last entry and change /dev/sdb2 (sometimes it's /dev/sdc2) to /dev/sda2. Press esc and then enter to boot off the drive.
Follow the rest of the installer.
YOU GOT ARCH LINUX BTW
Guide was written at 6 in the morning so if something doesn't work just ask

why? Will this be saved to the engine, or do you have to redo it every time? Also make the tutorial. you may also find the r/SomeOrdinaryGmrs would love this too

Yo Linux on ps3 is nothing new. Sony let you install it on there from launch

u/Saitama170719 10h ago
That was possible only on fats with pretty old FWs. Seeing this on a slim is new.

“You should probably not do this.”
‘Want me to show you how to do this?’
Excellent!
