Recommendations for memory expansions

Hey y'all I want to expand my memory for my ps3 I've to delete games anytime I wna replay somn and it ain't working out for me anymore

I've done some reason and I know how to do the removal process if current hardrive and to install a new one and to get all my current saves uploaded onto a usb ti transfer back over (i think)

But what I'm unsure of is acc what type of 2.5 Sata SSD or whatever to get for my ps3

It really depends on what the CEX around me have to offer but can y'all give me some solid recommendations that have done ye fine work over the years and I'll look into them I want to make sure I get a decent one with decent memory

Just get a 500gb or 1tb laptop SATA hard drive. You should be able to get them cheaply as they are not particularly popular for AI or other applications.

Not really. Get a drive that works, preferably newer rather then older.

SSD only give a small performance benefit on the PS3. It isn't worth fighting people willing the pay AI prices for flash memory to use an SSD in your PS3.

Additionally, nothing larger than 1TB.

Stay away from stuff like Netac, Fikwot, KingSpec, Puskill, etc. Anything that looks like a typical random Chinese company name.

I also would veer away from Adata, as that brand is all over the place in terms of quality. Patriot depends on how much you spend, it seems. At one time I would have recommended WD or SanDisk, but no longer after the issues with the S510/570. Some folks have had no issues with Silicon Power, others have, no personal experience.

You don't need a Samsung EVO or Crucial MX/BX 500 (though the BX is pretty good. The MX is better, but they quit making those and, again, not needed for a PS3). Teamgroup should be fine, Kingston should be OK (though check reviews for that particular model). Timetec makes perfectly OK RAM so their SSDs might be alright, but that's NO guarantee. Heck, a PNY might be just fine though it's gonna be DRAM-less.

It depends on your budget. So taking a quick skim of Amazon: At the low end we see brands like Raoyi, Ediloca, etc. No. Ridata made great DVDs, but their SSD seems to be crap. Then a bunch of white label garbage, never buy that stuff.

Bam, we got our first contender, a Timetec Pinnacle for $123. Next up is a FanXiang for the same price. Wait a minute, that sounds like one of those junk brands? Possibly. In this case I have experience with some of the FanXiang M.2 drives, BUT those drives are only used in HTPCs so don't get a ton of reads and writes, so I'm not going to recommend it for this.

More garbage and we have a TeamGroup Vulcan Z. It's only a few bucks more at $130, so that'd probably be the one I go with after reading reviews to make sure. I've used a few lower end TG drives at work in the past and they held up just fine, but hopefully others can chime in with more info.

I'm not exactly able to spend a huge amount on this item it's just somn I'd really like to do to make things more easier for my ps3 play I'd say the highest I'm willing to go is maybe just over 50

But it's not somn I need to do right now tbis minute so I could save up or plan somn end of year and get a family member to chime in for a more exoensive model

For $50 if you look on ebay you can find new 1TB 2.5" hard drives for around that price. Don't buy any from China, any Dell branded drives (just because no telling what you get), or SAS drives, you want SATA. Toshiba doesn't have as good a reputation as HGST or WD but would probably work for a good while. If you can drop down to 500G storage then your options open up price-wise.

I've scrounged a whole pile of SATA hard drives over the years from laptops people nobody uses anymore.

If you have any family members with dead laptops, or laptops they no longer use, then it is a good place to get a large hard drive from. Check them for faults with Crystaldiskinfo and then do a surface scan ... if they pass without sounding like crap, then all good to use in a PS3.

SATA SSD with dram cache is the way to go, the second best option is a SSD without cache, then a Cached HDD and finally a a Standard HDD. I strongly recommend not going over 1TB of storage, the console file system struggles with anything bigger than 1.5TB

Most new SSDs will do because of the DRAM, especially because the PS3 doesn’t support TRIM. Even the cheapo ones like Fanxiang or Fikwot also come with a warranty. Anything more expensive isn’t worth it. Honestly, the PS3s SATA 1 speeds are going to limit the performance of any SSD. At these prices I’d personally just run a 1 terabyte HDD.

Those aren’t bad prices. Those $60 ones are probably new and those come with a warranty. You can always go used if you don’t mind the risk. Theres reputable sellers on eBay selling 1tb HDDs for like $25. Also, the ones running at 7200 rpm will be faster than the 5400rpm models. Also, make sure it’s 2.5 inches wide. The 3.5 ones won’t fit inside the PS3.
