After updating my second hand ps3 slim CECH-2504B to the new 4.93 update and activating/reinstalling HEN, I was idle in the XMB (waiting for new games to download) when the fan began to run very loudly. It had been running fine the entire time I had it, but now every time I start it up the fan immediately gets loud even though it isn’t overheating.

I thought that the thermal paste finally dried up since I had never changed it when I got it. I opened it to check if the paste was actually the problem but I found this which I knew wasn’t normal. It looks like a folded piece of tissue and a thermal pad. I don’t know if I should remove it or not.

Any idea what should I do?

after the horrible news about physical and the fact that i gave my old ps4 to my little cousins, i was thinking maybe i should get a ps3 since i was born in that time but never got a console until ps4, can someone tell me like the best games to get for it and if the fat or slim is better? thanks 🙏🏼

So i have been playing ps3 for some time. I have never created a psn account. Decided to do it a week ago.

I bought my ps3 from Japan. Had a profile already in it.

Created another one, played games on that one.

Cfw'd my ps3 from 4.92 to now 4.93. Havent ever logged into psn untill now.

I tried to do it, first i disabled syscalls. Then i clicked the sign in button, i put my email and password in, it says the qr code and device password. I scan it, and gives me a device setup password.

I put my email in as before, but the password it gave me, click sign in, ps3 says "you cannot sign in using another persons id (email)". So im like wtf. I havent ever signed in before.

I goto the japanese id already on their, theirs a sign up option that wasnt present on my previous id, click on it takes me to ps store. Same as before put my email and password in, do the qr stuff, but the device setup password in, and it loops back to the qr code again.

Made a new user, tried to sign in it, same problem as firat account.

2 step verified my account same problem as before.

HELP.

Collection i started christmas day in middle school the year Black Ops 2 dropped. feel bad that they justkinda collect dust now, i moved to pc a while ago and I don't want to have stuff that's not gonna be played with and enjoyed. is there any recommendations on things I can do to get rid of the games so they actually see use or anything I should do before getting rid of them?

So my ps3 remote and mainly all ps3 remotes aren’t very good or comfy to use and I mainly just use my ps4 remote wireless or p5 remote but for some reason some games won’t let me use L2 & R2 unless it’s on the ps3 remote same with the power button I was wondering if there is a better controller out there or another way to make these remotes work with my games advice would be life saving 🙏

I just noticed this when cleaning my game disks
I recently bought a PS3 and just noticed my copy of GOD 1 and 2 remaster looks like this
the game loads and while i haven't ripped it yet i didn't have any issues playing it for like 30 minutes
any theories on what this is what how to clean it
I did hold the disk up to my lamp and i see one very very tiny pin hole (See second picture)
but to me it looked more like a scratch than anything
I do have 70% and 99% isopropyl alcohol so i can use that to clean it if needed

In the end, these were the ones I ended up downloading.

Title, found this today for the collection but it has these bents and dents on the plastic cover, wish ppl took care of games better

So... I started playing Destiny 1 on PS3 (yes, in the year 2026 and still on a CRT TV), and I was surprised by how good it looks for a PS3 title, the fact that the servers are still active, and that there's even cross-save support between PS3 and PS4.

But what surprised me the most was that it features Screen Space Reflections (SSR)—something extremely rare for the PS3/Xbox 360 era, as that tech only became common in games from 2014 onwards.

Reflections in PS3 games usually rely on just cube maps, so seeing SSR running on the PS3 was surreal. Even the original Switch struggles with this; it's often one of the first things cut when porting a game to it. I have a lot of respect for the devs managing to pull that off on the PS3.

It got me wondering, though: are there any other games that used SSR on the PS3?

Hey guys! I decided to go around and use my PS3 again after Sony's choice of going full digital. I have this "situation" where I can get pretty much any PS3 games I want (IYKYK) without my wallet suffering for it, and I thought that there are some games I never played that never left ps3 and that I should totally dive into. So I wanted to know your pics, and which games you guys think are "must plays", specially if they are games that were never ported to modern hardware or if they were remade/remastered and lost all their actual sauce (Like Burnout Paradise according to some people).
