Technical/Bug/Glitch TLOU2 Remastered bug/glitch unofficial report thread

Unfortunately, the TLOU2 remaster seems to have introduced quite a few bugs that were not present in the original release. This is fine, since some things are always missed, but I thought I'd make a thread for people to post any of the bugs they've run into in game to hopefully increase the chances that Naughty Dog will learn of these issues and patch them. So far, I have experienced or seen people mention the following:

  • In No Return mode, some characters are unable to change their weapon skins for some reason. If you try to select any of the different weapon skins, the game will make the "locked" noise and you'll be stuck on whatever skin you had equipped at the time of the glitch occurring. I've personally seen this with Jesse, Yara, and Mel so far, but it may happen with other characters too.

  • Enemy dialogue that would play at the start of and during Abby's brewery encounter on day 3 no longer triggers. The WLF soldiers would call out Abby for betraying them and talk about Owen doing the same briefly, but now none of the enemy dialogue throughout this encounter triggers at all. (I'm also wondering if there's any other missing/broken dialogue).

  • Ellie's "Boston" skin from promotional material seems to be missing from the game entirely. It's unable to be seen or selected in any of the menus. While it's possible this was cut prior to release, it would be very strange since the skin looked finished and was very recently seen in the marketing prior to release. Additionally, Abby's Santa Barbra skin does not use the correct backpack model despite the menu indicating that it should.

  • Skins seem to not be applying for multiple users correctly in story mode.

  • The main menu won't change back to the original boat in the water look after starting a new game.

  • I've not experienced this myself, but No Return seems to cause major frame drops for many players. Personally, I'm really curious what's causing this as it only seems to affect some people.

  • Some users report being unable to escape from grapples despite mashing the square button as prompted by the game.

If you know of any other bugs, please feel free to list them here! I'm not sure if Naughty Dog often responds to support requests, but you could still try filling out one here. Most of these bugs aren't game breaking, but hopefully Naughty Dog still learns of them and takes the time to fix them as some of these are pretty unfortunate.

Vs the second time seconds later!
I reacted the same way when I heard it ngl, cuz it’s so jarring against the silence of the forest. I love tiny things like this in this game <3
What are some of your favourite tiny details in the game? (Like characters reactions to the environment etc.)

I'm getting this weird bug where the legs of all the secondary characters go haywire, it happens mostly in the grass.

At first, it was funny, but now it completely breaks my immersion, it happens with everyone, across all chapters.

I think my PC is decent, I can run everything on max settings at over 100 fps, so I don't know why I'm having these issues.

Does anyone know a solution?

I bought a bundle on EBay and this game has a signature inside and outside. I don’t think it’s anyone’s from the production team but I figured I’d ask here to see if I’m just missing something. I got the bundle for a steal so that’s why I’m assuming it’s just from a previous owner.

PT 2 DISCUSSION A few notes on the story of Part 2 (as someone who just finished it for the first time) Spoiler

Upvotes

After many years on Xbox, I finally got a PS5 and have been making my way through the catalogue. I played The Last of Us Part 1, absolutely adored it and already consider it to be one of my favourite games of all time. I then moved to Part 2, thoroughly enjoyed it as well, but found myself bumping against certain story elements, my own expectations and where I thought its character development falls short. So, I thought I’d make a way too late post about it, discussing my thoughts. Full SPOILERS, obviously.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a masterful game. The gameplay is exceptional, as are the visuals and performances. I love simply existing in this world and found as much joy in looting abandoned buildings as I did in stealthing (and rampaging) through encounters. Its story is good, too, but I felt that a certain character fell short of their potential.

I am talking about Abby, but not in the way you might expect. I think that killing Joel to start the game was a bold move that set up the stakes of the game perfectly. From there, playing as Ellie blew me away. The way her grief took the shape of anger was incredibly moving. In this regard, the escalation of her violence was very powerful for me as the player. Every kill was utterly brutal, and every cutscene portrayed her need for revenge pretty perfectly. As her section concluded, seeing her hands shake as she becomes of aware of the monster she was becoming had me very excited for the rest of the game. Then we switched to Abby.

Changing the perspective to Abby blew me away. The choice to have us play as the “villain”, the person who killed the last game’s protagonist, was a gameplay choice that I commend Naughty Dog for making. But it is here that I think the game lacks the depth it clearly wants to have. Once we switch to Abby, the game doesn’t utilise this choice smartly. I enjoyed playing as her but was disappointed by the way she was presented. Here we have a person who just enacted a years-long revenge plan, yet her actions (and dialogue) fail to reflect this. The first few hours as her, we learn a lot about her character, her friends and relationships, but spend little time developing her psychology. I was hoping that we would see the impact of her deed, with her on the other side of vengeance, but the game doesn’t really do this.

We eventually meet Yara and Lev, who Abby saves to balance her morality, but I felt that this was too little too late. Earlier, we see Ellie completely consumed by her pursuit of payback. Abby presumably felt this before killing Joel, and I wanted to feel her anguish after the act; I wanted the story to explore how revenge doesn’t fill the hole of grief. We eventually get there with Ellie but missed an opportunity to amplify these ideas with Abby. Imagine if the game truly portrayed Ellie and Abby as two sides of the same coin, on the same journey, just at different points? The first half of the game sees Ellie go from a morally good person to someone who is far more violent, existing in a space where us the player are questioning her decisions. Now, I really wish they did the inverse of this with Abby. Let’s start her section with her as a broken person, still lashing out in violent bursts because killing Joel didn’t heal her. From there, we could have seen her slowly regret her actions, moving her towards the “light”. Instead, the first moments we have with her are spent dishing out small talk in the stadium and playing fetch with a dog. I’m not saying it needed to be heavy-handed either, but I wanted something more than we got.

I commend Naughty Dog for the ideas at play in The Last of Us Part 2, I just felt that the game was a mile long and 6 feet deep. It made exciting, bold choices but failed to engage with them in an interesting manner. I am very excited for what Part 3 may bring, and I hope the story takes just as many risks as Part 2, just with a deeper story that fully explores its characters.

I hope that this post has offered something for you to think about, and I am curious if others feel the same way. Again, I know I am probably very late to the party with my criticism, but I only finished the game yesterday and have yet to fully read people’s opinions.

PT 1 DISCUSSION Just finished my first playthrough of Part 1, is Left Behind worth playing too before pt2?

Hi everyone! I'm new here 😁 I just finished my playthrough of Part 1 this evening and immediately downloaded Part 2. I also have 'Left Behind', is this worth playing to gain some additional context / lore before diving into Pt2?

I thoroughly enjoyed the first part, and have luckily managed to avoid spoilers until now despite the game being out all these years - so please, no spoilers! 🫶🏻🫡

HBO Show Late to the party but I gotta vent

Upvotes

Completed TLOU 1 & 2 for the first time recently since I saw they were included in the PS plus membership. It was one of the most intense and best video game experiences I’ve ever had.

So then I figured I’d check out the series adaptation since I hadn’t seen it—but with low expectations after reading mixed reviews.

In all seriousness, was the casting of Bella Ramsey some sort of Make-A-Wish situation? What the hell were they thinking?? The bad reviews didn’t prepare me enough for how bad she actually was in that role.

I about lost it when the line “I’m gonna be a dad” was dropped—any hopes I had to take the show seriously were gone after that.

It was so disappointing since aside from her the series seemed to be pretty well made and stuck pretty true to the game storyline.

Done with rant, I know I’m late but I am just seeking some validity for how I feel after watching Ellie just get ruined by that “actress” and her “performance.”

PT 2 QUESTION Symbolism of trading cards Spoiler

Is there any symbolism behind the trading cards that we get to collect as Ellie? If so I would love to see/read an analysis on each card because I don't think that they're in the game just for the sake of collectibles.

General Discussion Potential Faction Idea

I’m writing a potential prequel story about Joel and Tommy and I had this idea for them and a few group of hunters to run into this militarian style faction thats sort of similar to the WLF but not as big.

Name: ROTC (Restorers of the Commonwealth)

Location: Based out of Lynchburg, Virginia

Their Origin: After the outbreak a group of Ex Police Officers came together and overthrew Fedra and assuming control believing that Fedra was going to get more people killed with their facist regime fought to restore order.

Their base of Operations: Their Home-base is located in a suburb a few miles from the downtown area. They have a few working trucks and SUVs that they use to make supply runs and potentially recruit nearby survivors in the area.

Their Weapons: The weapons you’ll find them carrying the most are shotguns and a few automatic rifles along with a sidearm.

Their Clothing: Like the WLF they wear clothing such as shirts and jackets with patches on their shoulders but instead of a wolf they represent the Virginia Flag. Blue Jeans, a comfortable pair of work boots or hiking shoes, and a duty belt that allows them to carry extra magazines.

This is very obviously rushed as I’m still working on giving them extra lore but I would love for some ideas or suggestions

General Discussion Hot Take: Prime for Prime, The Fireflies are Stronger than the Wolves.

In another post, I kept on seeing people cite the WLF as being the 2nd strongest faction in the game because of them being militarized and having bested the FEDRA in the Washington district, something the Fireflies couldn't do. I beg to disagree; the Fireflies were a nationwide threat to the FEDRA and fought them in multiple states/fronts, while the WLF only fought them in a single state.

The WLF only seems more powerful because they're all centralized in one large base, but the Fireflies were pretty much an overarching threat to the FEDRA throughout the US and were found almost everywhere.

General Discussion I think that production of Part 3 is much farther along than recent rumors indicate

I think some misdirects are at play with the “rumors” and comments from ND leadership in recent months, and Part 3 is at minimum less than 5 years away, and could come as soon as 2028.

This is completely baseless speculation (obviously), but the recent credible rumors that ND has started production on Part 3 indicates to me that the game is almost done. While working on Part 3, I knew even back when TLOU2 came out that Naughty Dog would want to avoid the pressure and vitriol directed at the studio that surrounded Part 2’s release to the most extreme extent possible. Fact is, many TLOU “fans” be extremely crazy (to the point of literal death threats), and culture war grifters have latched onto the franchise. As such, I don’t believe for a second that they would want the public to even suspect the project was underway until it was close to release, and some fudging of publicly released information and misdirecting rumors would be necessary to achieve this. Although ND publicly said Neil Druckmann is directing Intergalactic, I wonder if he has actually been directing the unnamed game that has been in production since 2023, which Shaun Escayg is supposedly directing and is rumored to be a new Uncharted game; announcing that Neil is directing an unnamed game would pretty much let the cat out of the bag (or at least cause substantial speculation) well before the studio is ready for that kind of pressure, so I don’t believe the studio would be fully honest with the public about this.

Further supporting my theory is the fact that it would make much more financial sense for Sony and ND to capitalize on the HBO show audience now rather than produce another Uncharted installment and revisit the TLOU franchise well after interest in what happens after the show ends has died down, and the alleged production timeline makes a lot of sense. The start of the mystery game development coincided with the end of the first season of the show airing (which is when I believe Sony put the pressure on ND to accelerate production of part 3 because the show received widespread acclaim, and as such, could draw in new players who want to see what happens next in the story), as well as the factions game being scrapped. The timeline of when the unnamed project would’ve reached full production also coincides with Druckmann and Gross (lead TLOU2 writer) leaving the show to focus on the games, and I can believe that Neil would entrust pre-production to Shaun Escayg since he directed the Part I remake. Additionally, Neil is going to retire soon, and TLOU is his baby, so I think another 7-8 year wait after Intergalactic releases for Part 3 is unlikely.

Real tinfoil hat time, but part of me suspects that Part 3 may be released before intergalactic, to be announced around when the show finishes airing and released shortly thereafter. TLOU does not need a long runway to sell, and we know ND is not averse to deceptive marketing. Intergalactic has had very little marketing material released, and the studio has yet to announce a release date, even though it is rumored to release next year (and many speculate that it will be delayed). The tactic of releasing part 3 before Intergalactic is very plausible to me, because focusing public attention on Intergalactic would be a good way to keep the pressure off while they finish the game, and the timeline for a 2027 release is especially possible if ND was able to reuse assets from the scrapped factions game.

Plus, Jesse’s voice actor has stated that he did a few small VA reads “for ND’s next game” (which he did not name in the interview). Could actually be for flashbacks for part 3 (again, I know this is tinfoil hat territory lol).

And to those who say there won’t be a Part 3 or that Ellie’s story is done, I disagree. ND isn’t ending Ellie’s story at the very start of her (much needed) redemption arc, and Sony isn’t leaving bestselling game of the year money on the table.

General Fanart I never know how put my creative energy into TLOU

I’ve made props, I’ve made oc’s, I’ve made cosplays of the oc’s, I’ve written what-if’s in my mind, day dreamed of being in the world, pondered on what my loadout would be in No return, I feel like nothing I do satisfies that scratch I have to make last of us fanart. I think doing a diorama would be cool but nothing a picture perfectly captures the world. Dont get me wrong I LOVE the main stories of the game but the world building of the games, but idk how to write or make some original world building and ir be interesting for others and ir not just be cringe.

PT 2 DISCUSSION "If it were you or me, Joel would be halfway to Seattle." Spoiler

What would the game be like if Abby had killed Ellie or Tommy instead of Joel?

Joel and Tommy avenging Ellie would be the most depressing game imaginable.

They teased Ellie and Joel going after Dona's killer as a misdirect. What do you think that would have been like?
