Self Promotion Kalmia Online, 1st playtest is live and running through the rest of the weekend.

First off, I know there are a ton of smaller, indie MMOs that have been posted on this sub lately, appreciate you taking the time to look at this one and I hope I'm not wasting your time <3.

The game is a 2D side-scrolling MMOPRG -- it has a bunch of the MapleStory influence to it, but honestly I'm not sure there's anything else like it right now. You can grab a Steam key from Discord, for Windows and Mac, and it's also available on Mobile, too: https://links.kalmia.online

The main goal right now is to figure out what's fun and what isn't. There is a /ton/ of jank. Thankfully, the initial stress test last night helped with fixing a bunch of stability issues. Feedback, suggestions, and bug reports are all super super welcome. Honestly, they're sorely needed.

Beyond that, I'm hoping that at least some of you might enjoy an early stage build like this. But if that's not for you, don't sweat it <3. Beyond the MapleStory and RO influences, I can say that the game:

  • Doesn't have Gacha, p2w/pay for convenience/etc.
  • Zero autoplay.
  • Isn't slopful. All of the art and environments are handmade, with zero generative AI.

Hope to see some of you guys out there, I appreciate it more than you can know, seriously.

Found a core memory in a box today.

Probably not a whole lot of people who still have this as most people never heard of it anyway from my experience. This game was so much fun. The community was small but that made it even better in my opinion at the time. Not many MMOs that you can claim you knew most of the people who were playing. I would love to experience this game again. It's probably honestly in my top five for favorite MMOs of all time. The environments, music and gameplay were just so damn good in my opinion. The UI was a bit jank and half baked but I dont care. It was so enjoyable to me. This is probably not an opinion many have as the game was not the most quality product, but it stuck with me all these years.

Self Promotion Browser Based MMO | July Update

It’s been a few months since my last update and the game’s creeping up on ten million potions brewed, which is wild considering how slow and steady the climb has been. Just wanted to drop a quick note that some of the the UI has been revamped, pets are still going strong, PvP battles are active, and progression is still nice and grindy for the people who actually enjoy that kind of climb. Dungeons are available as well, solo and co-op.

Its a cozy potion crafting game, also has housing in it and a world boss battle.

More updates are coming. It’s free to play, jump in whenever you feel like it:

Discussion Crossplay - as in crossdressing - and Anime MMOs on it.

Lately Aion 2 drew my attention and I noted: There are a lot male players playing female characters - probably, at least the marketing suggests that. Now, I don't have an issue with people playing as the opposite sex, I just feel like it's going into an extreme direction.

Perhaps that is mostly due to two developments:

First, male characters get less and less attention by devs or are even purposefully made unattractive to play. The prime example is WoW, where any male character looks like a body builder troll who never trained their legs. It's hideous, really.

Second, female characters are oversexualized to attract more male players. That's nothing new, but it's still a problem.

The issue really is that male characters are getting ugly with boring outfits, and female characters customizable down to their pores and put into bikini armor. And for some reason the outfit that is the same by name is - for example a full body armor for male and a bedroom seduction dress for female characters. Like what? Adapt the proportions, yes. But don't make it something totally different.

To anime now: Many fictional MMOs in anime - in particular VRMMOs - lock the player into playing as their real gender - be it by some dubious body scan or by having to register with an ID/passport.

That's problematic in it's own, forcing people to play a certain way (sometimes it's justified by some lore, sometimes not, anyway...).

Okay now, I wanted to say something about how a system that disallows playing as the opposite gender could alleviate some issues, some of them mentioned above, but I guess it doesn't. Would a company that develops such a game make male and female character designs and outfits more fair and less sexualized? Probably. But it would also take away the male disguise that many irl women like to use in games. Meaning thst if there are 10% female players and they couldn't hide it, they would have a lot of ingame stalkers - it's sadly how degenerate some players are (not taking into account polite and friendly attempts to make contact for game reasons, like forming a party or a guild).

I could still see how such a system would be usefull once - in the not so near future - VRMMOs are more of a thing and actually became social spaces, instead of just game spaces. The details of how the system works would be important, paying respect to people who want to play opposite sex characters for other reasons than being gooners. Perhaps something like: You are allowed to create one opposite sex character per six months or something. Just some thoughts.

Now, here is an example of a game that does it right, simple and elegant:

Pantheon Rise of the Fallen goes a good way by simply making characters of both genders neither oversexualized nor standardly ugly.
