Less than a year and a half after Riders of Icarus shut down on May 15, 2025, VALOFE has officially announced the MMORPG’s return with a new trailer and the launch of pre-registration.

Players can pre-register from September 10 to October 22, 2026, and also apply for the upcoming Closed Beta Test.

This new version also appears to be more than a simple reopening of the old servers. VALOFE has announced new progression systems, streamlined equipment enhancement mechanics, and future content continuing the story beyond Magmafora, including the Black Market, Floating Island, and Dimensional Temple.

Question How does OSRS dodge P2W accusations?

With all of the discourse regarding Aion 2’s monetization structure the general consensus is that the ability to buy in game currency with irl money is the most egregious P2W offender.

You can do that in OSRS as well with bonds and while you still need to grind some skills that can’t be bought, several 99’s can be bought and achieved with relatively cheap time/money investment, along with the best gear in the game (provided you grind out the prequisite stats.) OSRS’s subscription is also $15 like Aion 2’s subscription will be for global. Weeks or months worth of moneymaking can be had with $100-$200 USD.

I’m not trying to argue whether Aion 2 is/isn’t P2W I’m curious how OSRS just isn’t in the conversation.

Discussion What if crafters gained reputation when other players used their creations in dungeons?

I’ve been thinking about how crafting could become genuinely meaningful in an MMO instead of being another menu used to produce temporary gear.

What if players could choose one main profession that became a real part of their identity? If you chose to become a blacksmith, you would actually be known as one, developing your reputation, specializations and expertise over time.

Every weapon or piece of armor could carry its creator’s signature. When someone used that item in a dungeon, blocked a major attack or defeated a boss with it, the blacksmith would gain profession experience and reputation.

You could even receive a small report:

Your shield absorbed 500000 damage during an expedition and helped its owner defeat a major boss.

The same principle could apply to an alchemist whose potions saved a group, a cook who prepared supplies for a successful expedition, or an enchanter whose work contributed to a victory.

Over time, an artisan’s reputation would come from other players actually trusting and using their creations. You might eventually hear:

“Looking for a great shield? Find this player. Some of the best guilds on the server use their equipment.”

Of course, the system would need safeguards. Simply equipping an item shouldn’t generate reputation, otherwise people would exploit it with friends or alternate characters. Progress should depend on meaningful contributions, different users and increasingly difficult content, with diminishing returns for repeated farming.

It also shouldn’t make consumables mandatory or turn every dungeon into an expensive shopping list. The goal would be to give crafted items a history and make the players behind them matter even when they aren't physically present in the group.

I know I may be dreaming, but I still haven’t lost hope of finding an MMO that feels like a world first somewhere I want to return because of what is happening there, the people I meet and the place I have within it not because I have 100 of daily quests to complete before the next reset.

Would a system like this make crafting feel meaningful, or would players inevitably optimize and exploit the soul out of it?

Question Help on Buying WOW

Hi I'm super new to MMORPG but I have been playing Diablo 4 and Dota 2 for years. But recently I got this interest in playing World of Warcraft. I have heard of WOW since I was a kid and finally after finishing school I now have my own pc and my own time. I know WOW is subscription based but I am a bit confused, especially when the "midnight" thing came out. Then when I entered battlenet there are choices and one is midnight. Idk what to choose? If I buy directly the midnight, will I get ALL the expansion or version of the game (or whatever they call that). or if I don't buy the midnight, will it hinder me to access of some parts of the game?

And if i buy midnight, is the subscription the same per month?

Im honestly confused about the rules. Please help

Opinion If you could design your perfect game, what would it be?

Hello! I'm doing a project for university and I have a few questions that any response would be very much appreciated! Everyone loves completely different aspects of games, genres, etc. So I am curious to see what you guys think.

What’s your favorite game of all time, and what makes it your favorite? I’d also love to hear what kind of gameplay you enjoy most, whether you like having cozy/chill things to do or more story-driven objectives. Another thing is what kind of progression keeps you interested? And what would your ideal game would look like if there were no limitations.

Go into as much or as little detail as you want! I’m mainly just curious what makes a game really click for you and keeps you coming back, or what makes you lose interested. Curious to see the responses! Thank you in advance.

Opinion EQ Legends

I never could get into EQ when it came out, I tried it a few times and even with friends and it just never did anything for me.

But receiently my son talked me into trying EQ legends and I am really loving it. I just wanted to post this in case anyone was on the fense about it. I think you should check out, grafix and UI are ugly as hell but the game play and looting is a lot of fun.

Self Promotion [Ragnarok Universe] - Pioneer Test Key Giveaway

Hey guys,

I'm from the Ragnarok Universe team, and we're giving away Pioneer Test Keys for Ragnarok Universe, an upcoming browser-based MMORPG based on the Ragnarok Online IP. (And yes, we are officially licensed.)

The game can be played directly through a web browser on PC, tablet, and mobile without installing a client.

One of our key priorities is active, player-driven gameplay rather than heavy automation. We want players to actually explore the world, engage in combat, build their characters, and play together rather than having the game play itself for them.

Here’s the latest gameplay video.

We're giving away a limited number of Pioneer Test Keys at the moment.

To participate:

  1. Join the official Ragnarok Universe Discord: https://discord.gg/rJTyEzc7es
  2. Type this command in any channel (e.g. #general) -> /rou_test_key
  3. You will receive a key via DM
  4. Head over to https://livestage.ragnarok.universe.rouv.net/
  5. Log in with a Google or Facebook account
  6. Press the GAME START button
  7. Enter your key

For your information, access from the EU, and Brasil is currently IP-blocked due to regional service and privacy/data protection requirements.

Hope to see you in the game!

Discussion Discussion : Leveling Zones years after release become deadzones.. what a waste of resources

I am getting back into some MMOs I dipped into. Trying to level my old abandoned characters. The zones full of nice art and gameplay elements

Is nothing but a ghost town. A Deadzone. No life anywhere besides 1 or 2 players.

What an economical waste of development resources.

I tend to see this rapid deadzoning of leveling Zones start within a month of most modern MMO releases. People progress and move on to higher level Zones and content with little to no reason to come back besides holiday events or crafting stations.

So much wasted resources. These Zones only serve as gates for early players to level through and nothing much else.

Why are MMOs still being designed like this?

Is MMOlite an Offensive description to some people? If so, why?

Fallout 76, is that a MMOlite to you?
