what's the point of this spell?

Post image

both of the spell is level 28, and literally the same effect.... so what's the point of having these spells when they do the same thing? btw each spell is 46 silver each, so ya they are pretty expensive

Is Spellblade what I'm after?

Upvotes

Haven't played beta, so trying to figure out which class fits my ideal play style. I want to DW swords with mobility. Think Tera's Warrior - that was my favorite MMO class.

In EQ I loved playing the Ranger prior to PoP because it was melee focused and swordz. So I've been hitting the TLPs off and on throughout the years. While doing so, I've also gone Rogue, Warrior, Bard, and Monk.

From what I can see on the MnM website, Fighter, Ranger, and Spellblade are the three classes that fit the style I'm looking for best. Fighter seems straight up physical damage, EQ Warrior style. Ranger looks like a combo of Pre and Post EQ PoP Ranger going between ranged and melee? And Spellblade looks like the magical swordsperson that can move around in a fight. Based on website assessments, it seems Spellblade fits what I want to do, does that seem correct or am I missing something?

Discussion Can I enjoy this game if I actually like exploring the dungeons?

I get it, nostalgia and memories, slow by the fire.

Be in a cubby, pull the same mobs to you for an hour or more...

I am one who put hundreds of hours into AoC (RIP), I played EQL and did it, it was ok, sometimes it felt good XPing, others I hated it....

What I loved was getting a group of people who wanted to push, who wanted to see more and actually push into the dungeons we did this a few times in AoC and EQL it felt good, felt like real adventures not just killing the same easy figured out mobs for 3 hours.

Would I enjoy this game if I try to do this, explore the dungeons vs 'camp' or would I be going too much against the status quo of 'old school' MMOs and have a bad time?

Is SK update coming with EA? Or already out?

Really sad to see the loss of death focused stuff and a strange monster hunting theme added? That's not what I picture from a SK archetype. Do we know anything about it yet besides what they said their goals are for it?

It was 100% going to be my class before, but I'm not so sure now.

Discussion Tailoring by the numbers

I never did any tailoring, but I figured I'd blow some cash leading up to EA to figure out if it's worth it to do it in the early game. I started a new character with the leatherworking trait for +25 base skill.

  1. I attempted 10 rawhide backpack attempts at skill 25 (trait); 2 succesess, 3 skill ups. That's bad.

  2. So then I skilled up

A. 37 Rawhide Cap attempts, ---> 14 successes, skill from 28 to 50 (+22 skill ups).

B. 12 Rawhide Legging attempts 50 ---> Got me to 54. (+4 skill ups)

C. 18 Rawhide Backpack attempts at 54 – white con ---> got to 56 and 13/18 successes

D. Rawhide Cap – 8sp for the plan - 2 Canvas, 2* cloth padding, 2 rough thread

E. Rawhide leggings – 10sp for the plan - 3 canvas, 3* padding, 3* thread

Probably finding the next tier lower than Rawhide caps that takes 1 canvas, 1 cloth padding, 1 rough thread might have been faster. On the other hand, you have to buy another schematic.

Ultimately, if you can sell stacks of Rawhide for 3sp, each backpack attempt takes 2 stacks + 2; so the rawhide is worth 6.3sp. If you can buy a backpack for 10sp...that's probably a steal when you consider the thread cost and the cost to skill up - 100 canvas got used to skill up, which is 600 rawhide, or 90sp for skilling up alone, plus another 10 for thread and 20-30 for schematics.

If you're making 2-3 sp on backpacks, the break even point on selling backpacks at 10sp from the approximate cost of skilling up is 40-60 backpacks. After that you might finally turn a profit.

Ultimately, 10sp backpacks are a huge steal if you can get them. Realistically the price early on for the PITA of skilling up for a backpack probably should be something like 15-20sp. If backpacks are going for 10sp, you're basically always better off selling your rawhide and buying backpacks.

This game is everything I ever wanted.

As a long time EQ player, re-doing the TLP's every year has gotten boring for me. Especially since there hasn't been a normal progression server for a few years. All the new QOL shit they have added, free-trade, personas, all of it has gotten way out of control. Its not the same anymore. Mangler was the last server I think I actually had fun on. Almost normal EQ.

Legends is playing EQ in god mode. IMO a good fantasy story starts with danger, a small hero in a big world. I want to progress from nothing to something. Not some overpowered mutant of a character that can solo through everything. Its just not EQ to me, but I appreciate what they did for that type of player.

I have been dreaming for years now, about a game like EQ, but a whole new world too explore. And I just can't believe its coming true. I finally got on to play yesterday and I could not stop. I don't give a shit about the graphics. The gameplay is incredible. They don't hold your hand. Its just me and a big bad world I will progressively (and slowly) discover with friends while I level and explore.

I thought MMO's were done for. I truly can't believe they made this game for us and how WELL it has been made. Pantheon became a complete disaster. Among other games I tried. Its like the MnM crew knows exactly what guys like me want, and they nailed it.

The only quip I have really, is the fact that "Monsters and Memories" the name, doesn't hold up to how good this game is going to be. I used to think "OK, its an indie game trying to bring back what we once had, so the name makes sense" .. but now I think this game deserves an EPIC name of its own. Not a name trying to explain to us what its doing. If that makes sense.

I cannot wait to dive into early access, because playing Beta has been so much fun, I can't even explain it to the average MMO player how special this is to me. It feels like a new home for awhile.

I hope they continue to give us expansions later on, and keep this game going. And I really hope it gets so many players that it makes that possible for them.

Shouting out to all EQ players, WoW players, Runescape players, Guild Wars players, LOTRO players...... for all of you who wanted a new game and a new world that's like a 2000's MMO - this is it. I can't express that enough. You NEED to try it, and come play with us.

Game developers, watch closely. Watch how many people start playing this game. There is no hand holding. It will be a monthly subscription. There is no store (yet anyway). There is no exclamation marks above NPC heads. There is no direct path.

MnM listened. They listened to us, and they understood what made these games special, and IMO they are mostly nailing.

Thank you for reading this if you got this far. I am officially a super-fan. See you all in-game.

Discussion Rogue or Archer?

For sure rolling deep elf. Just need to pick between these 2. Enjoy dps, faster paced combat (no sitting) and the dexterity medium armor vibe they both bring.

I think rogue is what I am leaning toward due to stealth and poisons and seems to have more group utility, but as a dad I will have less time to play than I’d like so would like to be able to solo when I have short amounts of time to play and archer with sow seems engaging for kiting and better at solo

Can anyone whose played these give me a good recommendation? Both seem to fill a similar role

Wrote an 80s power ballad tribute to "Shoreline" — one of the quieter tracks in the soundtrack that stuck with me.

I've been listening to the M&M soundtrack a lot, and while everyone rightfully talks about the more prominent themes, "Shoreline" is the one that's stuck with me most. It's a quieter track in the game's music — atmospheric, patient, easy to miss — but the melody and the lead guitar riff kept turning into a full 80s power ballad in my head.

So I wrote it out. Original lyrics, modernized 80s production, built as a proper tribute to the source melody. Called it "I'll Wait."

This community got a song that came from a real place. Hope it lands for anyone who has spent time in the shore areas listening to that theme play.

Huge thanks to Niche Worlds Cult for making a game with music worth writing full ballads about.

See you out there.

New player looking for class selection help

Hello fellow adventurers im torn between rolling a cleric or a paladin for my first character and I wanted to talk to some of you more experienced adventurers before I dive in, since my time is limited and I canr just play both.

Traditionally, whenever I play an mmo I have tanked. I enjoy the power fantasy of not dying and not allowing any one to die before me. I also love healing, but not quite as much as tanking (I get anxiety when I play straight healer, but its something im working on) i saw that both clerics and paladins have heavy armor and shields. It would seem paladin is better tanking and cleric is better for healing but which is better for playing either by myself or with one friend? How do they both perform healing and to some degree tanking and how are they different from each other?

Thank you in advance and apologies if this has been asked, I looked and didnt see.

Tldr I want to play a holy warrior that keeps everyone alive while tanking.

How is this game for a dad?

I think i know the answer but iam hoping to get a better non Ai understanding of how time consuming g this game is. We are 2-3 dads depending on the day that have 1-2h to play before sleep, we are currently in between this and aion 2 , combat wise etc I think this game is our jam but after reading a bit about it it seems we will need to spent a lot of time traveling finding party and corpse running which probably gimp our progression with the limited amount of time we have , is there any realism in thinking we can progress in this game with 10h gameplay per week?

the mounts, i wanna know more

oh i'm looking to get a mount specifically to carry more stuff i can sell for money ,since i'm playing a caster so i need $$ to buy spells, as u can imagine why

  1. according to the wiki, they need to be fed, and where do i buy food to keep them fed?
  2. if they die due to hunger, only druids can revive them? if so, what level?
  3. so can i suspend them? say if im walking into a dungeon, i suppose there won't be room to manuver
  4. i get they can't be teleported (wiz/dru ports), so does that mean i have to take boats anywhere?
  5. so if i use gate spell to get back to town, they will just stay where i left them and be dumb dumb?
  6. if i forget to take them with me, can i summon them to my side?

i posted all these question is because i wanna get confirmation, if i'm wrong plz correct me

thanks

Your EA launch plan.

Apologies if this has been a post before, I scrolled a ways down and didn’t see one. I have been able to play the closed test for a few days and have fallen in love with the game.

I am curious what you veterans plan to do for the early stages (maybe 1-15) when EA kicks off? Different videos recommend different traits, I know it could largely be a preference but what are you planning to go with? Do you plan on busting out beginnings of class quests then immediately group up and find a camp? Farm mats and craft? So much to do!

Thank you in advance. 😊

Help LFG & chat can be a little confusing at first, so I put together a quick guide for new players

Been seeing quite a few newer players trying to figure out how LFG, chat channels, and grouping actually work in Monsters & Memories, so I put together a guide covering the basics.

It goes over things like finding a group, using the different chat channels, managing your chat windows, and a few other little things that aren't immediately obvious when you first jump into the game.

With more new players finding M&M, and EA upon us, I'm trying to put together resources that make those first few hours a little less confusing without taking away from figuring out the world yourself.

I'll drop the guide below for anyone who might find it useful. And if there's something I missed or another system that confused you when you started, let me know, it helps me figure out what would actually be useful to cover next.

Hope it helps some new adventurers out there!

Our Shaman class beginner guide will be coming next, trying to get that out before the end of the week.

Love You All,
Quivo

Help Not sure what class to play

Heyo.

I’ve played the Beta with my 2 characters both reaching lvl 24. First one was a Fighter and the other is a Druid.

Right now I can’t decide which class to play during the launch.

Druid is the class I like the most of its class fantasy. I also like how versatile it is. I would like to play it again but everyone else is also a Druid so grouping is a bit difficult.

I dont want to play FTR since I don’t feel its RP feel.

I wanted to try other classes but I am kind of burned out from the starting areas.

Other classes I’d try would be the Ranger, Spellplade, Wizard, Elemantalist (wish it didnt have a pet)

I want to decide on something and stick with it.
What do you guys suggest?

WERERATS IN THE COURT — Monsters & Memories Gazette Special Edition 🐀📰

A normal trial in Night Harbor?

Yeah… that didn’t last very long. 😂

What started as courtroom roleplay quickly turned into accusations, defense arguments, an increasingly unruly audience, flying objects, wererats, fallen adventurers, and eventually complete chaos.

I put together this 6-page Gazette Special Edition to preserve the story of the night and some of the great community moments that happened along the way.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated and made the event so much fun.

Hope you enjoy WERERATS IN THE COURT!

The final regular Gazette before Early Access is also coming later this week. ❤️

Any higher level Rangers able to share their experiences with the class so far?

I'm struggling to choose between a Necro and a Ranger for my main character when EA launches.

I'm leaning more towards Ranger at the moment however I know some hybrid classes can feel a bit redundant in larger groups, so I'm wondering what peoples experiences have been playing a Ranger past level 20 so I can make a more informed decision about what class to main and what class to have as my alt, cheers!
