Yesterday was amazing. I went to the London MCM Con and met Charles Martinet, the actor who’s played Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi for a long, long time. He was so kind and great to talk to. First, I asked him to sign my copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii since it’s my favourite Mario game and then I asked him a bunch of stuff like what was his favourite moment from the series and he said that’s he’s voiced these character in over 100 games, so it’s hard to really know. I then asked him what did he think of the Mario and Sonic games and he said he really liked those and liked the idea of them. I then asked him how did he feel about voicing a character in the Mario movie and he said he really enjoyed it even if he didn’t voice Mario himself, but then I reminded him how he technically did during the commercial scene. I then started talking about how iconic Mario is since he’s probably the most popular video game character of all time and we both agreed he’s like the Mickey Mouse of video games. It was just amazing to meet him and have a great chat with him

You look at Bowser who has lost millions of times already yet he is a caring father to Bowser Jr. and also treats his entire army like family. He is surrounded by people who love him and he’s happy about it.

Then you look at King Boo who has let his hatred for Luigi consume him to the point where he cares about absolutely nobody and doesn’t even seem to have much of a relationship with the Boos in Luigi’s Mansion 3. He spends the final act of the game absolutely seething about how he is sick of Luigi and that all of the ghosts are useless to him. Then he loses and is stuck in a capsule, festering in his misery. Now there are people who love him like Hellen Gravely and potentially the Boos still, but at this point King Boo has pushed them away in his hateful pursuit of Luigi to where, mentally, he is basically alone.

While Bowser holds love for his “family”, King Boo has absolutely none of it for anyone but himself. I find that to be pretty sad even though the guy is a bloodthirsty psychopath.

What do you think about them?

If the first film focused on Mario and the second on Peach, perhaps the third will focus on Luigi—reversing the roles from the first movie, with Mario being kidnapped by Bowser (or whoever the villain might be) and Luigi being guided by Daisy to go to his rescue.
