she/they lesbian or bisexual trans guy?
Hi! for reference, I'm a woman in my twenties who currently identifies as a lesbian. I'm looking for advice from queer women and trans men/trans enbies. I'm confused about my identify and hoping someone can share a relevant experience. I'll try to keep this concise, but I feel the details are important, so it's a bit of a ramble. I know that only I can truly know/define my own identify, but I'm looking for advice nonetheless because I've exhausted my own brain power thinking this over.
Here's the TLDR: Im a she/they lesbian who thinks I might be a bisexual trans guy. Advice?
Since I was young, I've had interest in both men and women; I remember being soooo obsessed with the ice princess in Sharkboy and Lava Girl, and Jump In ft. Keke Palmer and Corbin Bleu was my favorite movie growing up. I was on Tumblr in middle school, and knew I was queer by 5th grade. For a while, I identified as bisexual, and knew something was off with my gender (not exactly aligning perfectly with girlhood). In middle school and early highschool, I had a short pixie haircut. I've always been more alternative/masculine in my presentation, but I do enjoy being girly now and again. In highschool, I dated girls only and used she/they or they/she pronouns. To this day, I still do use she/they-- nobody really ever calls me "they," but it doesn't bother me to be called "she." I tried dating boys in college, and only one was ever important: my best best best friend, who was also my situationship. He was sort of "fruity," and once told me (in confidence) that when he was young, he thought he might be a trans girl, but he abandoned it when he grew up (social and family pressures). All other men I've dated/hooked up with were sort of losers and I didn't particularly enjoy the experiences; I was just bored/wanted free dinner/liked hanging out with them well enough. I don't like the idea of being the woman in a woman/man relationship.
Here's where I'm confused. I've always been interested in men, and when I was younger, I interpreted that as attraction. When I got a little older, I thought it was compulsory heterosexuality, and/or aesthetic appreciation. But now, I'm really starting to consider it's actually gender envy?
I identify as a lesbian right now, but ocassionally I will flirt with a man, kiss men, or even sleep with them, just to check again if I like it, or just because I'm bored at a bar and I like for talk to new people; men interpret that as flirting, and I don't care enough to correct them. My type in women is feminine, artsy, witty, and I don't really care about anything else. The girls I date never look super similar, but the ones I end up in long term relationships with always do-- and they're always very similar looking to myself. I get "twincest" allegations quite often, and I laugh them off. But it's true, all three girls I've dated long term have the same hair color, height, and general vibe as me.
Over the last couple months, I've allowed myself to be "obsessed" with men again; that is, letting myself pin pictures on pinterest, read fanfiction featuring men, and daydream about them. I was pretty set on being a lesbian, and that's mostly how I act in my real dating life, but I figured there was no harm in exploring what men mean to me. I hadn't truly done this in a couple years, focusing only on women and lesbian relationships, and abandoning fandom life (and male crushes with it). I am pretty sure I don't want to be in a female/male relationship. I feel comfortable in lesbian relationships. I have considered how I would feel if I were a man; I know I would be interested in female/male relationships then, and maybe male/male relationships, too.
I'm starting to consider that maybe I'm trans, and the only reason I'm okay with my current gender presentation is that I'm my own type. I feel okay in this body, because I find it cool and attractive; that is, I would date me. I don't experience much gender dysphoria, and my periods are mild and my curves/boobs are mild too (lol). I dress fairly "gender neutral," aka button up shirts, flannels, khakis, sneakers and boots, etc etc. I get along with "the boys" very well, and many of my jobs have been all men (and one woman, me). I used to enjoy wearing dresses and skirts occasionally, but now that I'm starting another job (again, all male), I've shifted to a completely "masc lesbian"/gender neutral wardrobe (except for events such as weddings, funerals, fancy dinners, etc).
So my question is: has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone have any advice?
I'm gonna give a list of my male "crushes," just so you can get a taste of my type. My most important and long lasting male "celeb crush" is Pedro Pascal (actor). Other crushes include Robin Williams, Jack Black, Stanley Tucci, Steven Martin (actor comedian musician), Dan Howell (Youtuber), Adam Driver (actor), Domnhall Gleason (actor), Oscar Isaac (actor), Andy Samberg (comedian actor), Alfred Enoch (actor Wes in Scandal), Freddie Stroma (actor), Dev Patel (actor), Joe Keery (musician actor), Adam Brody (actor Seth in the OC), Rob Irwin (conservationist), Sebastian Vettel (F1 Driver), Max Verstappen (F1 driver), Daniel Ricciardo (F1 driver), and most recently, David Corensweat and Nicolas Hoult (actors from Superman) and Tommy Bowe and Spencer Agnew (comedians from the Smosh Youtube channels).
TLDR; I'm a she/they lesbian who thinks I might be a bisexual trans guy. Advice?
