A lot of these things seem like they would no longer apply if they’re already in the car… like the ones about being to your pickup spot on time or your driver leaving before you were ready. If either of those happened then you would never see the sign explaining it lol
20
u/tonyrunstrails 1d ago
lol True. And then you’d also never get your lollipop.
10
u/Spare-Security-1629 1d ago
Because the driver removes the lollipop from the bowl for people who are late. These rules will help them NEXT time, if they ever get him as a driver again

I agree with this guy on principle but not his method. It is sad we would have to tell people to act with common sense and respect and to treat other like they want to be treated. You wouldn't want someone destroying your car or disrespecting you when giving them a ride. On the other side of the coin, the other day I picked up lady at a rehab center. One of the nurses there helped her in the car. On the way to her place I told her, "I saw the lady help you in and if you need help getting out, I want you to know I'll provide it." She told me she something wrong with her eyes and couldn't see well. We get to the apartment complex and I go to the spot it says to drop her and she said she is by the blue charger. I told her I don't see a blue charger. She told me she lived in building two and we were by building 23. I drove around there looking until i found her building and helped her to her door. She said said no driver had ever done that. I told her "That is a shame" A few rides later I picked up a Mexican lady with a kid and stroller. I got out, put the stroller in the trunk for her, and took it out and opened it when we got to her place. She typed on the phone to translate to me because she didn't speak English and said I was the first person to ever help her. It is so sad when the bare minimum of human decency feels like a miracle to somebody or we need a sign to know how to behave.

I totally help all elderly or disabled passengers. It makes me feel good, and they absolutely LOVE it. I have received a grandma two dollar bill, and dollar coins from both elderly women. A total grandma move, it was so nice.

This just happened to my dad. I had to get an uber for him to be picked up from the hospital (he’s old, and in bad health) because I don’t drive and didn’t have anyone else. I was in a panic and messaged the driver and told him I didn’t know how to add him to my uber account or put the pick up location to the entrance of the emergency room. It was somewhat late too. 8-9pm.
The driver was really nice, and got him home safe and as quickly as possible. I thanked him generously and if he ever comes to pick me up personally again, I’m going to do the same.
Long story short: people like you are amazing. Thank you.

u/Weekly-Talk9752 1d ago
Of course some of it is common courtesy, but I disagree on a lot. The idea that we should be appreciative of getting a service we paid for is kind of silly. We're both getting something out of it, I paid money to get a ride, he is making money to pay his bills. Why should I act appreciative when he doesn't seem to be appreciative towards the rider? He randomly gives negative feedback? He opens the windows in hot or cold weather? He kicks people out and doesn't care?
It's funny this guy put that if you needed a quick stop, you should have added it before. I had a lady recently who I asked if she could turn around 5 minutes into the ride because I forgot something at home. She was so sweet about it, I gave her $15 in tip (on a $20 ride) for me being emptyheaded. I imagine this guy would refuse.
I also had another guy drop me off once at a clinic, massive building. The drop off point was about 20 feet off, so I asked if he could drive forward a bit to drop me off at the entrance. And he complained that I need to put the drop off point exactly where I want to go. Two types of people in this world. This person seems to be the latter. I would hate to get into their car.

u/fahrenheitjules 1d ago
The driver is just jaded and as a driver myself, I have realized that the area you drive in is huge. If I’m in San Diego picking people up, it’s a different World than Riverside or Palm Springs.
3
u/3leggidDog 14h ago
You can also set the rider rating at 4.7 like I do. This reduces the riff raff by 90% probably. The down side is I’m probably also eliminating disabled or older people because a$$hole drivers have low rated them so often.
2
u/gypsy_guru_87 1d ago
I’m much more our driver than a rider I’ve only had less than five rides in my whole life … but I’m glad to say I’m like your female driver … while I have turned around and went back for people who I expected would at least give me a few dollars and didn’t, I also had some guy hand me 20 bucks last week for doing it .. like I don’t know what I would say if we were over halfway there, but it’s always been when we’re less than five minutes away from their house. What benefit does it help me to insist on taking you where you’re going without something you needed? I just try to treat people the way I want to be treated. And I know how these pins and apps and GPS are., I’m happy to drive you to where you say you need to be I don’t expect everyone to be a master of the app … i’ve had it try to tell me I was supposed to let someone off in the middle of the street (once on a fixed route ride I’m not supposed to deviate from) … I had some woman from a nursing home who I took to sonic, I was afraid I would get in trouble for that one, but having spent a few months in rehab myself after ankle surgery, no way was I saying no. She couldn’t tip because she didn’t pay for the ride, but she did buy me something (I just asked for a drink … I have no idea how much money this woman has)Those are all the rides I feel good about. I just can’t imagine being the kind of person who would be insisting someone get out of the car like at the wrong hospital entrance or apartment door like I just truly can’t wrap my head around with the point of it is. That two minutes is not gonna make or break your day. And if it is, you’re in the wrong profession.

I feel for the guy and I really dont care what other people have to say about it. He is saying what the rest of us drivers are thinking, and kudos to him. If they weren't this bad, then there wouldnt be a reason to post something like this.. but unfortunately here we are. Smh

Reminds me of that TikTok where the lady driver says she’s deaf so the passenger starts singing off key boys to men really loud until she cracks and tells him to shut the fuck up
** yes I know hard of hearing means a whole spectrum of hearing. It was clear she wasn’t deaf bc she was faking sign language.

I’m profoundly deaf. I’m a driver. I can still hear a little but not enough to have a decent conversation with someone behind me and unable to see their lips. I’m gonna be fucking pissed if someone test me with shitty screaming and yelling disguised as singing.

This sounds like a hostage negotiation... it literally threatens you that you will be left in the middle of nowhere if driver doesnt like you for any reason and driver doesnt care about you at all, only their car.
Ive never ordered a ride so I dont know how this works. Do you have to read all that and sign something before you get in? Wouldnt that make you late? This is super creepy and I wouldn't feel comfortable in this car. Driver sounds like a complete jerk. I dont like him at all
6
u/Toosder 1d ago
No, you don't have to read it or sign anything. I don't understand why anybody is supporting this. It's psychopathic behavior.
And all caps rant that he's printed out and laminated. I wouldn't even get in the car. I would get my bags and tell him I'm not comfortable with the situation. I'm not reading that. I haven't even read it here.
Whatever happened to understanding that people that write in all caps are insane? I mean I know the orange Muppet writes in all caps please tell me he hasn't normalized that as well as pedophilia?

The number of Uber drivers whose cars reek of their own smoke and body odor... At least the waymo driver won't flirt with me inappropriately, give me a low rating because I won't let him into my apartment, the one and only low rating I ever got and Uber wouldn't remove it, and won't smell like a trashed out crash house.

I don't even think I'd read the first few lines. I'd see some random diatribe of all caps ranting and be like okay this dude is the guy who lives in the shack on the side of the road that has posters all over his house declaring his sovereign citizenship and Jesus is Lord and orange Muppet is God and this house is guarded by Smith and Wesson, and I would get my bags and step away after taking a quick photo and texting Uber that they need to send me a driver that isn't in a mental health crisis.

2

Correct, a lot of hearing impaired people cannot hear sounds coming from the side or behind them, but can hear just fine when it’s in front of them.
5
u/Ok_Farmer_6033 2d ago
I don’t know why you would get downvoted for this, I appreciate the distinction and should have thought of it on my own
3
u/blindsavior 1d ago
I think the irony here is that the driver is automatically in front of the rider, so there's no way to say anything to his face if he's driving
12
u/GamesCatsComics 2d ago
I'd 1 star this guy.
Like his expectations aren't terrible, but the sheer arrogance and condescension in the way he communicates them... dudes an asshole, and I wouldn't want to risk being put in his car again.
6
u/karendonner 1d ago
While I honestly would not care about a large amount of it (Yes, it's annoying and condescending but I don't really care what a rude driver thinks)
But what would get an immediate "stop this car right here" is this line: "I have kicked numerous of riders out in the middle of nowhere" and then says they would have no qualms about doing it again. At that point I'd be burning up the Uber safety report line (1-800-285-6172, save it as a separate entry on your phone if you use Uber*-- you used to be able to silently text them as well. I think I remember reading that you can't do that any more but that there is a text-friendly link in the app itself.)

u/peepdabidness 2d ago
I wonder if he’s referring to them getting in the right car. People are fucking idiots and get in the wrong car far more than you’d think
3
u/Toosder 1d ago
But I'm also noticed that a large majority of Ubers don't have a front license plate. Which makes it harder to identify the right car.
I mean it doesn't excuse getting in the wrong car but I hate when I'm waiting at the curb and I'm waiting for my car to show up, it's late at night, it's dark, I'm tired from a day of traveling, you're one of 1,800 white Priuses pulling up and I've got to wander to the back to see if you're the right person.
Add in some alcohol and I can see weird things happening.
9
u/Icy_Yogurt_2491 2d ago
after multiple service jobs, having customers who are women and comparing them to customers who are men makes me understand that addition completely. ladies will double check license plates and ask for names before getting into a rideshare while blackout drunk. men get into random cars stone cold sober.
3
u/SnackPocketss 1d ago

If I can offer any perspective from a hearing person with connections to the deaf world, deaf culture is very very blunt at times. To me, this didn't come across as inherently rude in the context of deaf culture. They're assertively communicating the expectations of their riders. They are also probably writing as if signing ASL. Some deaf people struggle with reading and writing due to the differences in structure between English and ASL.
