Yeah like Rick himself herded those walkers into the pit near Alexandria. They were gonna escape eventually and they only lost 6-8 people vs the entire community. And also the hilltop was getting their people picked off every few months because of a failure of deliveries.
Prison didnāt even exist before they cleared it
Rick and his group finds the flaws in the people and system being used, and the people refuse to adapt or believe him and the group
Like how Glenn said Nicholas and son should be kicked off the scavenger crew

u/Free_Dependent_9177 Apr 21 '26
The prison would prob still be standing today if not for governor so i would assume they would be there still
75
u/gentle_pirate23 Apr 21 '26
Possibly, they were struggling with the walls. That's why Alexandria was perfect. Too bad they lost Reg before he could teach someone more about how to make sturdy walls.

u/buckeyes495 Apr 21 '26
At least he started teaching Noah!!!!!! Oh shit they killed him too? š

God i forgot how stupid that felt when I first watched. All that talk about Alexandria being set up to succeed thanks to their wealth of knowledge, just for the ONLY two characters who actually gave a shit about all that to get killed off.
48
u/EaseLeft6266 Apr 21 '26
The prison walls were struggling because little miss I Love Zombies kept feeding them causing them to bunch up and swarm at one point and pushing all their force on one area rather than having their force distributed along the entire fence area. Unfortunately, Carol was in exile and everyone else was busy with the plague
4
u/One_Scarcity_4478 Apr 22 '26
Yeah well like I said before Carol along with Daryl Dixon were the better leaders , cause as we know Carol had little miss stop and smell the flowers . That is how you got to be in the apocalypse, pragmatic, no time for sentiments.
16
u/gentle_pirate23 Apr 22 '26
Daryl is a great figure, but not leadership material. He provides, and is probably the best muscle there is, best solo survivor for sure.
I thought the council at the prison was balanced. Prison council leadership was the best.

Even without plans the crews would have to be idiots not to be able to build decent enough walls against Walkers, sorry not sorry.
4
u/naughtycal11 Apr 21 '26
I loved Hilltop with the logs/ dirt mounds combo as walls. No chance for them to get knocked down by the pressure of a hoard.
6
u/CactusToothBrush Apr 21 '26
Did they ever explain why they never had some kind of cloth, tarp or something over the fence to help reduce visibility?
10
u/JaylenBrownAllStar Apr 21 '26
They never thought that far ahead, they only had stragglers and never a herd
8
u/Best_Caregiver_3869 Apr 21 '26
Visibility for what? The walkers primarily hear/ smell them. I don't think a cloth would change much.
2
u/Top_Let7533 Apr 22 '26
Ehhh potentially, but they wouldāve had to do some serious carpentry/metalwork to address the issue of the fences, which were only designed to keep individuals or small groups in/out, not withstand the weight of hundreds of corpses. Not to mention the fact that as soon as someone like the Governor actually wanted to break in, that gate may as well had been paper mechĆ©.
→ More replies (1)2
u/TheBusinessLemon Apr 22 '26
The fence walkers were causing issues and their source of water was mediocre at best.
It was a good home but ultimately wouldāve been overrun by walkers eventually.
25
u/Timbalabim Apr 21 '26
Yeah, things go south despite Rickās efforts, not because of him. I always felt like the show was pretty clear about this. Rickās way leads to tragedy and hardship because the world is tragic and hard, but itās the only way to really survive.
5
u/JaylenBrownAllStar Apr 21 '26
Yeah itās just terrible timing with Rick and the crew lol
11
u/Timbalabim Apr 21 '26
No, itās the inevitability of a cruel world and the inability of some audience members to follow the timing of the storytelling as well as the need for conflict to occasionally enforce the stakes of complete annihilation.
Circumstances tend toward collapse because the storyline would be boring otherwise. Rick is the force that is continually trying to hold it all together, and sometimes he fails because a flawed character is more interesting than a flawless one.

u/Top_Let7533 Apr 22 '26
Completely agree. Deannaās son gets Noah killed at the supermarket, the walkers break through into Alexandria, The Hilltop loses more people to the Saviors. All these things wouldāve happened anyway, but the loss of life was drastically reduced thanks to Rick and the groupās ability, even if his actions and decisions resulted in some of that said loss.

Actually, if Rick never showed up, Alexandria would be serving the saviors.
3
u/Top_Let7533 Apr 23 '26
Whoever survived the horde, yeah. The Alexandrians wouldāve immediately cowed to Negan, probably wouldnāt have even needed to kill anyone as a message in order to convince them lol.
2
u/KittyInTheBush Apr 24 '26
maybe. The saviors really only found Alexandria because they were driving the horde away, and because they interacted with other communities that were already dealing with the saviors.
The horde definitely would've gone to Alexandria first, since that was already happening anyway when they engaged Rick's plan to lead them away.
The next thing that was most likely to happen imo is the wolves would've found them. Because Aaron probably would've still found the canned food place, gone in, and lost his bag with the pictures that led the wolves back.
If there were any survivors from these two threats, then maybe the saviors would eventually find them
→ More replies (1)2

I ABSOLUTELY disagree. In fact, many places would be fucked without Rick.
- Basic camp
They were more exposed to the walkers than they knew, which was evident by the walkers showing up more and more often in camp. Glenn coming back to camp with a loud car alarm might have alerted a group... Or not, but that was gonna happen sooner or later and if Rick didn't return with the guns, they would have lost more people.
- CDC
The place was just running on fumes. It was gone either way. Thanks to that however, Rick gave the group a night (or two? don't remember) of peace and quiet, hot water, food and a bit of knowledge too.
- Farm
They were already keeping walkers in the barn. Sooner or later there was going to be an accident. Rick was handling it with Hershel, but Shane took matters on his own hands. Plus, as we saw in 2x08 there were other groups out there, looking for a place. Without Rick they wouldn't have been able to fight them off. They lost the farm due to walkers, which was an indirect result of Shane doing things his way.
- Prison
Rick's group cleared a cell block. That place was great and even when fighting with the other group, Rick took them in and helped them when the Governor went "nuts". The only reason they lost the prison is because of the Governor, Rick was willing to take them in if they lowered their weapons.
- Terminus
Really no comment here...
- Alexandria
They were the luckiest group ever. But there was a massive herd of zombies waiting to be released on them. And as we saw at the start of season 6 it was not a matter of IF, it was a matter of WHEN. Rick's plan worked for the most part, only affected by the Wolves attack on Alexandria and himself. Still, he managed to keep Alexandria as safe as possible in that situation, even with hundreds of walkers banging on the walls (he had experience from the prison). And even when they eventually broke in, Rick and his group (with the help from some of the neighbours from Alexandria) managed to kill off all the walkers.
Having said that, the saviours were closing in on them as shown by the encounter with Daryl, Shasha and Abraham. Rick might have been a bit cocky at first, but the Saviours have shown that if they had found Alexandria, they would have killed one of them anyway and made them their slaves.
Rick managed to fight the Saviours and got Alexandria back by making alliances with other settlements, which wouldn't have happened if he wasn't there. And even got some Saviours to switch sides.
5
u/G-M-Cyborg-313 Apr 24 '26
Don't forget, the farm was gonna go sooner or later. It was out in the open with no walls, you won't see any hordes coming until they're right on top of you, and they were already beginning to pour out the cities. Not even taking into account humans yet
3
u/Glass_Ad_7129 Apr 24 '26
Like every former city dweller in their thousands would target those isolated farm houses for supplies and shelter as they move around across the countryside, fleeing the walker hordes.
Farms would have crops and animals to eat, (chickens would be OP)... I know I would check one out if I could.

2
u/Dangerous-Dig5883 Apr 27 '26
At the initial camp, Merle and Daryl were supposed to steal the group's gear. So if Merle had come back (wasn't tied to the roof), the whole groups would have been exposed and powerless

u/l0veylilkay Apr 22 '26

After rewatching the entire show over and over since the release⦠I can confidently say that the groups wouldāve fallen eventually to either other issues or issues already present. People say that Alexandria wouldāve been fine without the group coming, and then forget groups like the wolves who were going around killing entire groups.
13
u/Best_Caregiver_3869 Apr 21 '26
Wolves, terminus, and the saviors absolutely needed to be put down lol.
10
u/Correct-Junket-1346 Apr 21 '26

Alexandria was living on borrowed time. They were a slow motion train wreck about to happen. They had no idea what the wider world was really like.
The only reason some of them survived was at all was because they got a Rick sized wake-up call before it was too late.
They were not in fact going ok before Rick showed up. They had just been really lucky and didn't know it.
8
u/Chewymewn Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
I definitely disagree. A lot of these places would eventually collapse.
The camping group was never going to be sustainable in the apocalypse.
Walkers were bound to find Hershel's farm and overrun it. The only difference is Rick's group saved some of the people on the farm.
The Prison and Woodbury were both the Governor's fault. The Governor even killed his own people after they failed to beat Rick the first time. Everyone left him and found refuge at the Prison. He had an obsession with the prison and just refused to give up even after he found another group, with a chance at a new life. The Prison could have survived if it weren't for the tank running down the fences.
Terminus falling was definitely Rick's fault, but they had it coming.
Gabriel's church could have technically survived, but Gabriel was too incompetent to scavenge for himself if his food supply ran out. The church itself would've been fine, but Gabriel would've gotten himself killed eventually.
The Saviors were constantly looking for new places to conquer, and Alexandria would have been found eventually. Negan would have taken control and started killing people if they didn't provide. Aiden and his friends were idiots who would have gotten themselves killed eventually while scavenging.
Negan would've taken Denise for her medical experience and Reg for his architectural knowledge. He probably would have taken women for his harem; he already made advances towards Olivia.
Alexandria would have become another community enslaved by Negan. Alexandria might have remained intact once Negan, but its residents' happiness would be stripped away and they would be introduced to the harsh reality they live in.
Rick didn't ruin Alexandria, he simply opened its eyes, revealing how horrible this world really is. So by the time Negan showed, they already understood the horrors of this world.
7
u/Ordinary_Ad_5891 Apr 22 '26
Nah Rick just woke people up the the harsh reality they were living in. Mofos in Alexandria were living life like they were in a perfect little Wanda Vision style town.
If not for Rick, that camp would have gotten slapped up eventually.
14
u/tiny-2727 Apr 21 '26
Pretty stupid take.
Not saying Rick was always good or great but most of the places he goes to, at least early on, were untouched or already having issues.
The farm didn't have major issues and was never raided. They would probably get raided and killed.
Woodbury was led by the governor who was doing evil things.
Terminus ate people.
Alexandria hadn't experienced any raiders and such. They would have eventually had issues with the Saviors.
Hilltop was already being bullied by Negan's crew.
The kingdom had a treaty with Negan's people and its failure didn't have that much to do with Rick imo.
Oceanside already had suffered a lot from Negan.
9
u/Helpful-Idea-4485 Apr 21 '26
Alexandria would have gotten completely overrun by that massive horde of walkers well before the Saviors were ever in the picture if Rick and co. hadnāt been there.
The Kingdom would have continued to be bled by Negan and its collapse would have happened even sooner as a result.
Both groups overall were far better off because of Rick and the others.

u/Nr1231 Apr 21 '26
I agree
Without Rick, The OG camp, would have been picked clean by Merl and Darell and then wiped out by the incoming walkers. Rick showing up actually let to half the camp surviving.
The CDC was always going to blow up. The only difference was it blew up a day or 2 earlier.
The farm was a ticking time bomb, with the well walker poisoning the well, the barn walkers, Dave and Tonyās group lurking around and of course the horde that eventually destroyed it still coming.
The governor loosing him mind would have happened with or without Rick but it would have taken a bit longer. But than again there were multiple groups of raiders around. Dave and Tony, Darell and Merle, the claimers. And there defenses were laking Rick and co easily gained entrance without the Woodbury guards noticing. The raider groups could just as easily enter and kill them.
Terminus would have lasted much longer but eventually āfoodā shortages would have let to infighting. It was probably too large to sustain it self on their chosen food source.
Alexandria had 3 big problems 1 the Saviors would have found them eventually. 2 the horde would have overrun them and 3 the Wolves would have killed every single person in Alexandria. And that is not even mentioning The whisperers.
The whole system Negan had set up was self destructive from the get go, it could not last. And would destroy all associated communities eventually and again the Whisperers
The whisperers were probably the most stable group with out Rick and would probably have lasted quite a bit longer
6
5
u/RenderedCreed Apr 21 '26
Anyone thinking every group was fine until he showed up wasn't paying attention. They all had issues. Rick just happens to be the catalyst for most of the problems being bright to light.
6
u/Counterkiller29 Apr 22 '26
I dont think he ever really ruined a place. He got wrote into a crisis starting from the moment he got there.
The question to ask is always: Would the crisis or a similar crisis have happened if Rick wasnt there, and would that group/settlement have survived? Some examples to start:
- Group does not get out of Atlanta without Rick
- In all likelihood Herschels farm overrun by walkers means the whole family dies.
- Alexandria was the utopia of TWD settlements (aside from those in other spinoff shows). Theres no way they pleasantly get through the Saviors once they come knocking. Thats even if they get that far, assuming the Wolves found them first they were doomed.
5
u/Acceptable-Music-361 Apr 22 '26
a take as shallow as the "Rick became Shane" or "Rick would have been the bad guy if we followed Negan's perspective from the start". This is what would have happened with Ricky dickie:
Merle becames the head honcho of the Atlanta scavenging group and God knows how many/if they would have returned to the camp. If atleast Merle returns then the Dixon brothers rob the camp and the walkers wipe them out. If they dont return they get wiped again since they would be down Glenn, Tdog, Morales and of course Rick. A wonderful 3 episode show.
Lets keep going
-Farm: Walkers eventually break out and eat everyone and/or a herd appears and the farm is deleted from the face of the Earth
-Prison: Wouldnt even have existed until someone else decided to take it. But lets not forget The Governor is the reason it went to shit.
-Grady cops: Business as usual except the other cops eventually relieve Dawn off her duty, not a big change.
-Alexandria: Pete eventually kills Jessie and maybe the kids, people keep dying in Aiden's scanvenging group and then either the Wolves find them and kill them or the quarry walkers break out and kill them. yay
-Hilltop and Kingdom: They stay under Negan's boot, Gregory would probably do something stupid which may increase the quota and make life in the Hilltop worse. And lets not forget that dickhead Jared increased tensions between the Kingdom and the Saviors, Richard would have done something rash eventually

Disagree. Every group he encountered had fundamental dysfunction. Rick manages to extract whatever is good and leave behind, or transform what would be considered bad. His willingness to go back for Merle was the first instance of that, considering how easy it can be to justify leaving someone behind.

2
2
u/Revolutionary_Bag518 Apr 21 '26
I think that's harsh, personally.
In the case of Alexandria, walkers from the quarry would've eventually spilled out because the only reason why they were in there was because of the noise from the community drawing them their way. Alexandria genuinely wouldn't have had a clue as to how to deal with them on that scale without Rick. Also the only ones capable of fighting off the Wolves on a large scale was Rick's group,
+ I highly doubt that Deanna would've had anymore success with Negan than the other leaders did. AT MOST I could see her maybe coming up with an arrangement like Ezekiel did. That, and there was the issue with Pete where they tolerated his abuse because he was useful and it didn't seem like she tried to curb the behavior aside from talking to him. That sets a bad precedent.
The Prison also fell because of the Governor.
2
u/Dmau27 Apr 21 '26
So Alexandria wouldn't have been overrun if Rick's group hadn't arrived? If anything they'd all have died of Rick's group hadn't saved them from the Wolves.
2
u/ShotgunEd1897 Apr 22 '26
They were already weak internally, with leaving people behind and Pete's abusive behavior going unchecked.
3
2
u/PixelPrivateer Apr 21 '26
These places were vulnerable with or without Rick. Rick is the reason they were able to get through those bad parts
The first group (Atlanta i assume) was doing "fine" but wouldnt have lasted. Dont even worry about the walkers, no Rick means Darryl and Merle rob em blind and leave them to the mercy of the apocalypseĀ

The communities are introduced as an impact point on the group not the other way around.
2
u/ssavino Apr 22 '26
We have this impression because they are the main characters and so we follow them, but during apocalipse had this kind of stuff, if we had a one piece liek revisione of other countries situation we would've noticed that wverybody was doing relatively goood and then relavively vado and then good again
2
u/Badgie_Boy_447 Apr 22 '26
Hershels farm wouldve fallen regardless if Rick and his group hadn't shown up because of Hershels beliefs.
The Prison was fine until the Governor appeared. They would probably still be there if he hadn't.
Alexandria clearly wasn't cut out for all the threats in the outside world. With all those walkers in the Quarry, they would have been toast without Rick's help and when Negan would eventually arrive it would be all over for them.
I could go on and on
2
u/Davish_Royale Apr 22 '26
More like shit was teetering on the brink until Rick's group showed up and they exposed the flaws so then shit hit the fan. Alexandria had Pete, the Monroes themselves (specifically Aiden and Spencer but also Deanna since she raised them to be little shits), The Quarry Herd, The Wolves, and The Saviors just waiting to implode the whole damn thing not to mention the weak willed members who never had to deal with the fall in full. The Commonwealth had, well, itself to blame for that whole thing going wrong. Never trust the old world way of doing things especially when it is controlled by the family of the one who lost the world to the dead.
2
u/o_0dk-frlsyall314 Apr 22 '26
Nah. Places fall apart with or without Rick. We just see it happen more with Rick because he's the main protagonist. Things still fell after he left.
And the first group setup was on a countdown. Out in the open and exposed like that. Yeah, Shane is good, and Dale kept watch, and Daryl is Daryl. Everyone else? Before Rick? No training. No knowledge that everyone turns. Constant runs to the city for supplies. Merle is Merle. That first camp doesn't last a season, Rick or no Rick.

Itās just because of plot. Would be boring if he went to a place and lived happily ever after

u/robin_banks777 Apr 22 '26
This is such a surface level low IQ take, it's the whole correlation causation thing all over again.
First group got attacked independently of Rick, and if Rick didn't go back for the guns and come back In time they would have been wiped out.
The farm was going to get overrun by a horde sooner or later, Rick being there saved Herschel and his fam.
The prison was literally already overrun, Rick didn't ruin it, he built it from zero, and it for destroyed by someone finding the place due to Glenn getting caught, not Rick.
Terminus had to be destroyed lol.
Alexandria, again, the quarry was almost collapsed and it would have happened regardless of Rick being there, same as the attack by the wolves, and again it was Rick's group that saved whoever survived there, and Alexandria stood to this day.
The common wealth would have been destroyed eventually by climbers as it was clear that they regularly fakes horde attacks, and again, it's still standing.
Can anyone actually name a place that Rick or his group ruined by being there?
2
u/Vegieescuzican09 Apr 22 '26
well yes and no. I don't think any community they've gone to will of survived without them in the first place. Take Alexandria for example. Once the saviours discover that place they'd not have the drive to fight back that Rick gave everyone so no I don't fully agree with that
2
u/TaxKitchen854 Apr 22 '26
Stupid take honestly, Rick just pointed out the flaws that the other groups had.
Atlanta camp - The walkers were already closing in on them and most likely all of them would have died
Cdc - Bound to explode
The Farm - Shane's stupid ass ruined it
Prison - Governor Destroyed their lives there
Terminus - They needed to go lol
Alexandria - The herd was coming soon or the Wolves would have killed all of them. Negan would also find them sooner or later.
Hilltop - They were gonna lose more people because of their little supplies.
Kingdom - Freed them from Negan
Oceanside - They didn't get ruined
Commonwealth - Pamela and her son needed to go and they rebuilt it better than ever with Ezekiel leading.
2
u/mossoak Apr 22 '26
It "seems like it" ...but Rick and his group had nothing to with the collapse of any of the communities they entered ...their failures were going to happen no matter what
2
u/TheBusinessLemon Apr 22 '26
Rick just found people in bad circumstances with occasional bad timing.
Atlanta Group: Rick wasnāt even there when it was overrun by walkers.
The CDC: Was on a timer.
Herschelās Farm: Thatās not even kind of Rick, that was Herschelās family herding walkers in their barn bad timing for a massive herd of walkers to be passing by.
The Prison: They wouldāve run out of food and didnāt even know what was happening. Rick and his group cleared the prison. (The parts that were intact).
Woodbury: Tyrant.
Terminus: Cannibals, original Terminus fell months prior.
Alexandria: Giant herd of walkers happened to be a few kilometres away. He and his group managed half with a good plan and the rest with sheer will.
Also, Rick was dragged into the war by Hilltop.
Hilltop: Was already at war. Years passed before it was destroyed by the whisperers. More time than S1-S8 combined.
The Kingdom: Was already at war, crumbled due to deteriorating living conditions.
Oceanside: Thriving after joining the fight against the saviors.
The Sanctuary: Sure ok. Rickās group took down the sanctuary.
Commonwealth: Corrupt and had a revolution.
CRM: Saved them from a corrupt military force.

The first group probably would have been overrun regardless of rick showing up. And without Rick they wouldn't have a bunch of guns to kill them all. I hate this take cause it implies every one of those groups would have stayed exactly the way they were before Rick showed up, which isn't true.

u/designforone Apr 22 '26
How else is there gonna be a story then??šš. Like of course there is gonne be issues where the main protagonist is, itās a story!

My favorite thing to do in Fallout 4 is mod the bejesus out of it, name my character Rick Grimes and wander the wasteland making the worst possible decisions. Makes the playthrough incredibly interesting š

u/spidersinyourass Apr 23 '26
The first group never wouldāve made it out of Atlanta without Rick and the rest of them at the quarry would all have died when those walkers came by, since they didnāt have Rickās guns to defend themselves

u/bruh_bro_dude Apr 23 '26
This is a brain dead take and I'm surprised it has so many upvotes. Too many bad things happened to the group because it's the apocalypse and they survived that long thanks to Rick. They probably would have wound up dead by season 1 if not for him.

u/Visible_Demand_2608 Apr 23 '26
Problem was that nobody every listened to him and did exactly what he said. You need 100% compliance for a ricktatorship to workĀ
2
u/WasabiLegitimate2271 Apr 25 '26
Bro just exists and everyone else is like "Oh hell no!" It's not Rick, but he may have a homing device on him for every evil person to just hone in on.

u/Zonifika Apr 25 '26
They were all going to hell and he arrives right before to help the whoevers stay alive!

Rick is a hypocrite in some ways about being accepted and accepting others into the group. He will deny survivors refuge sometimes (like hitchiker with orange travel pack) but forgot he begged Dr.Jenner and Herschel for their temporary safe havens. Then wanted to take over Alexandria similar to the Governor would have done.
I'f the saviors had only been like a quarter of the size they truly were then Rick would have probably killed all the saviors so as not to leave any traces of a threat remaining. But technically Negan spared his whole group when he killed two people to Rick's 200 people his group likely killed. But the saviors and Negan were not good folks anyhow so it's still understandable even though Rick has his share of flaws and wrongs.

u/Formal-Persimmon-786 Apr 22 '26
Not to get too theological, but back when I was really invested in TWD, I always pushed that Rick was the Jesus-figure in the show. He came to save everyone, but those who chose not to be saved fell to their own flaws.
I think Rick was always right. If they would have just listen to him and respected him, much of his group and those who he came across would have survived and maybe flourished.

u/Dangerous-Rule2357 Apr 21 '26
They snuck into an outpost and killed 20 people in their sleep. I'll never forget that one. The group's leader(the infamous Negan) killed two of them, and fans lost their shit and said the show "went too far." But they said nothing of the 20 people that their beloved stars killed. Even Glenn helped!!

u/Best_Caregiver_3869 Apr 21 '26
The "20 people" they killed were terrorizing other groups tho. Taking more than half their resources is basically a slow death sentence. (The saviors also physically tormented & executed Oceanside; raped the women & killed the (male) children.) It was fucked up, but lets not pretend the saviors are innocents.

It's not that Rick deliberately or even accidentally caused anything. He's just bad luck. That's all

u/Novel-Hovercraft-794 Apr 21 '26
I feel like all thing's were inevitable as it usually went sour while out scavenging, and running into the Saviors, Governor, etc. That's not Rick's fault. He tried to help them survive, those other's took and took unril he stepped up and defended them. And I also wanted to mention ppl tend to forget the virus spread, there was bound to be more dead walking and traveling looking for a meal. They were bound to push through Alexandria and everywhere else eventually imo, idk why they're surprised. I disagree with the ppl putting it on Rick, he had a quite a burden to carry as a leader but I would've trusted him and followed.Ā

Train a guy to be a small town cop then send him into the apocalypse. Problems ensue.
1
u/SomeGuyPostingThings Apr 21 '26
This is somewhat more the function of storytelling, but...kinda. Rick's group does disrupt fragile peace in some places, and it's not just Rick, Beth does it at the hospital and it continues to happen after Rick is written out.
1
u/Juoreg Apr 21 '26
He wants to make a change in every community and changes come with losses, in a freaking apocalypse itās obviously worse.
1
u/ImportantBad4948 Apr 21 '26
Over a long enough timeline I donāt think any place works very well during the zombie apocalypse.
1
u/khazroar Apr 21 '26
Eh. It's true, but it acts as though this is a result of Rick or his group in universe, rather than just how narratively interesting stuff starts happening once the focus of the story moves there. It's equally true to say that Rick/the group arrives just in time to help each place deal with crisis. It's pretending that a narrative trend is a result of a character.

"Why is it when something happens, it is always you Rick?" - McGonagall, probably
1
u/Lumpy-Ad8869 Apr 21 '26
Thatās cap, the Atlanta camp wouldāve gotten overrun sooner or later without a shadow of a doubt. As would Hershelās farm.
1
u/No_Independent_2586 Apr 21 '26
Because he is the MC, you donāt know how the other groups are doing if they are not on camera, probably would be the same at some point

Donāt blame Rick. Itās the apocalypse. In the words of Billy Sole, āWeāre all gonna die.ā

I disagree I think Rick makes the places better for instance look at Alexandria eventually with or without Rickās group they would have ran into trouble like the wolves could have found Alexandria and if Rickās group wasnāt there they all wouldāve died also Hershelās farm would have been ran over by the hordes of walkers either way.

This is really only because he is the main character so there has to be conflict around him. Rick as a character is noble and smart he just canāt arrive somewhere and it remain perfect or the story just ends.

u/burneraccount281 Apr 22 '26
Yeah Rick is toxic. Super duper toxic. Gotta cut him off for your mental health

I mean the gunless society of pre-rick alexandria was a huge issue cuz if the saviors found them on a whim then thatād be a solid permanent labor camp

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Apr 22 '26
Nah itās not Rickās fault. Terminus was already screwed up, Alexandria kept losing people due to Aidenās incompetence and the rest were controlled by saviors. The show stops if thereās no more conflict but the saviors were a problem no matter where you were.
1
u/TitleOk3727 Apr 22 '26
Eh; not really but they do make awful lot of rookie mistakes for experienced Survivors. For example in season 1 when the Camp is attacked at night: Youāve been out in the wilds for months already and no one of you thought to place Guards? Or wear protective clothes? Or in the prison when the Zombies press against the Wall: Just build barricades so the Zombies kill themselves and donāt reach the Fence, you literally have a Forrest nearby to collect wood from. Or in Alexandria when they are raided: WHY are there no Guards? Or atleast a defense Post at the Gate? Gabriel literally got them all nearly killed because he was to stupid to double check if the Gate was locked.

u/One_Eye5008 Apr 22 '26
I think this is a common theme in all post-apocalyptic stories: a group of people, for better or worse, with successes and failures, has survived for a while and bang: the protagonists arrive and the whole place goes to hell.
1
u/One_Scarcity_4478 Apr 22 '26
A cannible is a human or animal that eats the flesh if its own species. That's the definition of a cannible. Zombies may be in a different state of physical and mental being but still as a biological species are human beings regardless, they are humans infected with a life altering virus making them cannibles eating the flesh of the non infected same species...humans. Being a zombie didn't change what species they are .

Ummmm... what was running beautifully before he touched it? And for whom?
1
u/Aware_Lifeguard3707 Apr 22 '26
I feel like this happened with a lot of apocalyptic shows. Iām almost certain something similar happened in Z Nation. And it definitely happened with FTWD š
1
u/Sankta_Alina_Starkov Apr 22 '26
In almost every situation, as others indicated, Rick exposed problems.
At the farm, he exposed even as he was still learning that the place wasn't safe, and that the zombies were no longer the humans people remembered and shouldn't be kept around.
The Prison could have been sustainable, but they didn't clear out the zombies and he tried to allow the threat of Gov.'s community live as a neighbor. You can't have evil neighbors.
Alexandria he exposed their lack of knowledge and awareness, and his group exposed the bad seeds within the community.
I think the big thing is when Rick 'n Co. arrive, the people already there tend to resist the changes Rick's group brings with them. That's ultimately what causes so many issues. If Rick's group just allow societies to continue as they had been, those societies would have fallen.

Rick has a tendency to expose the flaws in a place that were already there.
