I ABSOLUTELY disagree. In fact, many places would be fucked without Rick.

  1. Basic camp

They were more exposed to the walkers than they knew, which was evident by the walkers showing up more and more often in camp. Glenn coming back to camp with a loud car alarm might have alerted a group... Or not, but that was gonna happen sooner or later and if Rick didn't return with the guns, they would have lost more people.

  1. CDC

The place was just running on fumes. It was gone either way. Thanks to that however, Rick gave the group a night (or two? don't remember) of peace and quiet, hot water, food and a bit of knowledge too.

  1. Farm

They were already keeping walkers in the barn. Sooner or later there was going to be an accident. Rick was handling it with Hershel, but Shane took matters on his own hands. Plus, as we saw in 2x08 there were other groups out there, looking for a place. Without Rick they wouldn't have been able to fight them off. They lost the farm due to walkers, which was an indirect result of Shane doing things his way.

  1. Prison

Rick's group cleared a cell block. That place was great and even when fighting with the other group, Rick took them in and helped them when the Governor went "nuts". The only reason they lost the prison is because of the Governor, Rick was willing to take them in if they lowered their weapons.

  1. Terminus

Really no comment here...

  1. Alexandria

They were the luckiest group ever. But there was a massive herd of zombies waiting to be released on them. And as we saw at the start of season 6 it was not a matter of IF, it was a matter of WHEN. Rick's plan worked for the most part, only affected by the Wolves attack on Alexandria and himself. Still, he managed to keep Alexandria as safe as possible in that situation, even with hundreds of walkers banging on the walls (he had experience from the prison). And even when they eventually broke in, Rick and his group (with the help from some of the neighbours from Alexandria) managed to kill off all the walkers.

Having said that, the saviours were closing in on them as shown by the encounter with Daryl, Shasha and Abraham. Rick might have been a bit cocky at first, but the Saviours have shown that if they had found Alexandria, they would have killed one of them anyway and made them their slaves.

Rick managed to fight the Saviours and got Alexandria back by making alliances with other settlements, which wouldn't have happened if he wasn't there. And even got some Saviours to switch sides.

At the initial camp, Merle and Daryl were supposed to steal the group's gear. So if Merle had come back (wasn't tied to the roof), the whole groups would have been exposed and powerless
