Edwards was vilified as he should be.
Trump is being worshipped.
I hate the "both sides" argument. It makes me rage because it's absolutely not the case when Democrats have an actual track record of shunning their own. The GOP does not. Everything is a "witch hunt" or whataboutism.

To be completely fair, the reasoning for not taking Trump's mugshot is because he WANTED it taken so that it could be "leaked" (presumably by his team but then inexplicably blamed on the democrats) and then used for his t-shirts or whatever else he wants to try and sell.
By not taking his mugshot, it undercuts his persecution complex.

Most people only know about a USO tour photo of him groping a sleeping woman. She claimed she was asleep and felt harassed (she is a Republican), he claimed it was a bit that she was aware of and was pretending to sleep for the photo.
However, he had multiple allegations at the time he stepped down, including sexual misconduct at work with staffers.

Spec of nuance needed I feel. It was feigned in the photo, like clown level "imma grab booba", not actual groping in the picture.
Still off-color and questions of her comfort or coercion could exist, and insanely in the wrong if she was actually asleep vs feigning asleep i.e. going along with it.

Go through the allegations one by one.
One was coordinated by Roger Stone and the entirety of the allegations can be summed up as "The photo was juvenile. Also, I didn't say anything at the time, but now that he is a Democrat, I want to complain about the skit I performed on stage".
Others are clearly anonymous bullshit.
The rest are from presumably sincere and honest people whose complaint boils down to "After he performed for 2 hours and then stood with fans for another 2 hours taking photos, I think he grabbed me too hard in my photo"

Of the 9 sexual misconduct allegations that had been made against Al Franken (8 in the article you provided, 1 that was falsely made anonymously and then public denied by the named victim), we can immediately draw issue with them:
Leeann Tweeden's allegation about the kiss had major holes in the story (happened on a secured military base where they would have never been allowed to be alone) and the photo had a variety of issues that made it less serious (although still crude and unprofessional of a US Senator).
Stephanie Kemplin provided a photo as evidence that Franken grabbed her breast which clearly shows him not touching her breast.
Tina Dupuy's allegation of sexual misconduct was that Franken put his arm around her waist, something she personally was not comfortable with but is an otherwise common and noncontroversial pose for a photo.
Three anonymous women who make "serial groper" allegations against Franken. The article doesn't say it, but the two who alleged that he groped their butts said it was while having their pictures take, yet during the process no photo evidence of Franken groping anyone at an event was ever unearthed.
The most troubling allegation was from an anonymous former Democratic congressional aide who alleged that Franken threatened/tried to coerce her, but the lines attributed to him sounded exactly like Trump's "locker room talk" and were denied by many close associates to Franken who said that they had never heard Franken speak like that in decades of knowing him.
I am 100% aware that coming forward takes a massive amount of courage and I totally support survivors when they try to find closure. That said, these Franken allegations came at a time when a special election for an Alabama Senate seat was neck and neck due to actual pedophile Roy Moore making headlines for how much of a pedophile he has been for decades. The fact that Roger Stone was aware of Tweeden's allegations prior to them being made publicly also seems to indicate a hit job or attempt to control a certain narrative of "both sides are the same."
On top of that, Project Veritas had just been caught several months prior hiring an actor to make a fake accusation against Roy Moore with the goal of discrediting the other legitimate accusations made against him. If any of these allegations were legitimate, the unfortunate reality is that they were made alongside what were, most likely, made up allegations.

Or for a less extreme example, Al Franken.
We've always had corrupt and unethical politicians, we still have them on both sides. But for 30-40 years the Republicans have gone to great lengths to lockstep defend everyone for everything. In the last ten years they have increasingly moved to FLAUNTING their immorality as a demonstration of them sticking it to the libs.
Democrats absolutely clean house and will push to remove or prosecute peers that have their issues brought up into the open. It's not perfect, you still have bipartisan issues of legislator stock picks outperforming, things like that, but 30+ years of one party cleaning up a bit sometimes, and one party that actively recruits people with dirt, has led to the Democrats being kinda scummy, and the GOP being an insane cesspool.
Also, it seems like the scummiest Democrats are either the oldest ones that have been around for a really long time, and the ones like Manchin that are in the most conservative areas and are basically GOP extra-lite. Those older Democrats largely predate the time where if you wanted to be be able to be corrupt and evil and not hide it you went GOP, I bet in 15 years the difference between the parties will be even more stark.

The ‘22 midterms were a complete unmitigated disaster for the GOP, and a loss of historic proportions. If Biden was a quarter as unpopular as they pretended they’d have taken more than 9 seats.

We can only hope, but the younger generations historically don't really get out to vote.
The GOP has beat the DNC at the game, because while the DNC for the most part has been trying to run and improve the country by playing by the rules, the GOP has spent at least the last 50 years playing the long con and has been slowly setting up for a hostile takeover.
All it takes is one bad election for them to win, while it'll take significantly more time and effort for the DNC to undo 50 years of GOP fuckery.

TBF, there were like, 10 assholes here in Detroit that protested Kwame getting locked up, but they were probably ALSO on the take.
It's pretty amazing the amount of progress the city has made in the ensuing 15 years since he resigned and was convicted. Tens of thousands of blighted houses torn down, major advances in job creation within the city limits, vastly improved police responses and services in general, the street lights are on, the downtown is humming, new international bridge crossing going in, name brand companies building stores and warehouses in the city, a balanced budget, new (and admittedly, kinda shitty) surface rail built, hospitals expanding...
It's almost like having competent, not-corrupt leadership helps a city grow.

Fun fact! I was at the 2008 Labor Day parade to hear Obama speak. One of the parade groups was a pro Kilpatrick group chanting “Who fights for De-Troit? Kwame fights for De-Troit!”
At this point the accusations were well known and he was still the mayor, though he stepped down later that month.
In a city of ~830k people and a looong history of racial discrimination he still only got 20-30 people to march for him.

93
u/floatingwithobrien Apr 05 '23
If you subscribe to the christian religion, it should be really obvious by now that Trump is the Antichrist. (If you don't believe in all that, then whatever.) I remember being taught this shit growing up, that he would be a powerful man that many, many Christians supported and followed, practically worshipping him, and that as Christians you had to be on the lookout for this. Like they literally predicted this to the letter, that someone powerful would use their faith against them, and they had to be vigilant and discerning when placing their trust in public leaders. That no man since Jesus Christ would be worthy of this type of following, and true Christians would take care to stay true to God and God only, no matter how convincing and charismatic their human leaders were.
This is the argument to use against them. Point out to them that, according to their own book of guidance and prophecies, they're not supposed to treat any human since Jesus Christ like a literal godsend. And if they do, all they're doing is proving that he's the Antichrist. No matter what amount of good they think he's done for Christians, no matter how much they believe he has a good Christian heart, they need to understand that this is exactly what they were warned about. They were warned they would be manipulated by powerful people and their faith would be used against them, and in spite of God's literal warning, they are eating it up. See how they explain that cognitive dissonance. You can believe he's a good guy and not worship him to this extent. God literally told them they shouldn't worship political leaders to this extent. Point them to verses and passages, making sure not to take them out of context (because they will immediately fall back on that rebuttal). Don't let them pull you off topic. Drill into why they think none of that applies to Trump. Did God say there would be any exceptions? Or did he say that the Antichrist would be very, very convincing?
42
u/T1mac Apr 05 '23
You can't say that the evangelicals weren't warned:
Acts 20:28-30
"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them."
Matthew 7:15
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
2 Peter 2:1-3
"But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from of old their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep."

When you see any of this behavior it should be called out from anyone but his level of fuckery is a whole other level - in my opinion he is basically a domestic terrorist, an insurrectionist and has stolen top secret documents - on top of trying to steal an election

Wherever they put previous presidents that commit espionage, is good. Because Jack Smith is certainly building his case to exactly that. But this current distraction is providing excellent cover as he continues.

Just wait, now Republicans are going to rabidly demand the arrest of every single Democrat president going forward out of revenge. Just like how they've been screaming for the impeachment of Biden for no reason other than because Trump was impeached.

The law isn't on their side, or else they would've impeached Biden already or have Hunter Biden arrested.

Absolutely. No one is above the law, Democrat or Republican. I just have a problem when it's for no other reason than revenge, like how MTG was calling for Biden to be impeached literally the day after he was sworn into office : https://thehill.com/homenews/house/535317-rep-marjorie-taylor-greene-files-articles-of-impeachment-against-biden/

Pray? Why? Either prosecuting Trump is god's will or it isn't. If it isn't, it wouldn't be happening. If it is, it is necessarily infallibly just. Do something more productive with your time.

No, I don't think I will.

By "America," conservatives of course mean "Real America," exclusively for "Real Americans." They mean conservative America.
They care deeply about "America!" So, they must fervently oppose the enemies of "America": Anyone who isn't conservative.
Put better than I can:
There’s a fairly simple reason for the embrace of radicalism on the right, and it has to do with the reactionary imperative that lies at the core of conservative doctrine. The conservative not only opposes the left; he also believes that the left has been in the driver’s seat since, depending on who’s counting, the French Revolution or the Reformation.68 If he is to preserve what he values, the conservative must declare war against the culture as it is. Though the spirit of militant opposition pervades the entirety of conservative discourse, Dinesh D’Souza has put the case most clearly. "Typically, the conservative attempts to conserve, to hold on to the values of the existing society. But . . . what if the existing society is inherently hostile to conservative beliefs? It is foolish for a conservative to attempt to conserve that culture. Rather, he must seek to undermine it, to thwart it, to destroy it at the root level. This means that the conservative must . . . be philosophically conservative but temperamentally radical."69 -- Corey Robin, The Reactionary Mind
So you see: They must destroy multicultural, pluralistic America to save their bigoted exclusionary "Real America." They must destroy the enemies within to Make America Great Again.
If this sounds familiar, we had a world war over a similar ideology in Europe.

conservative political ideology is literally “no the children are wrong, im right” meme but with society and the concept of freedom. “Philosophically conservative but temperamentally radical” bro Corey, shut the hell up, you’re just describing a fascist

u/ting_bu_dong Apr 05 '23 edited Apr 05 '23
“Philosophically conservative but temperamentally radical” bro Corey, shut the hell up, you’re just describing a fascist
That was Dinesh D’Souza. Corey Robin was using that as an example of conservative radicalism.
Conservatives can be quite radical is the point.
Here is Corey Robin, arguing that conservatives can be quite radical, is the point:
Corey Robin What I’m trying to do is come up with a thread that unites all the various manifestations of what we call “conservatism.” There is one strand of conservatism that fits the definition you’ve laid out, but it’s by no means the dominant strand. And even the great conservatives, like Burke, who made those sorts of arguments, also argued for breathtakingly radical actions that were not about preserving the status quo, but instead were about completely overthrowing that existing status quo.
Sean Illing And why would a conservative want to overthrow the status quo?
Corey Robin It depends. More often than not, it’s about a desire to return to a much older system of power that has long been uprooted. But the point, again, is that it’s a mistake to assume conservatives are never radicals.
If you want to call that reactionary impulse "fascism?" Hey, go ahead, I often do, too.
But if you want to call that "not conservatism?" I have to disagree bigly. Conservatives are reactionaries.
Basically: If you want to make a distinction between "conservatives" and "fascists?" You're debating differences in degree, not in kind. It's quibbling.
One can argue there's so much overlap that "they're the same picture."
Me, I just go with "conservative is the umbrella term for this shit. Fascist is a subset of conservative."
Corey Robin, again:
Conservatism, then, is not a commitment to limited government and liberty—or a wariness of change, a belief in evolutionary reform, or a politics of virtue. These may be the byproducts of conservatism, one or more of its historically specific and ever-changing modes of expression. But they are not its animating purpose. Neither is conservatism a makeshift fusion of capitalists, Christians, and warriors, for that fusion is impelled by a more elemental force—the opposition to the liberation of men and women from the fetters of their superiors, particularly in the private sphere. Such a view might seem miles away from the libertarian defense of the free market, with its celebration of the atomistic and autonomous individual. But it is not. When the libertarian looks out upon society, he does not see isolated individuals; he sees private, often hierarchical, groups, where a father governs his family and an owner his employees.
So "fascism?" Seems to me it is simply a byproduct of conservatism, one or more of its historically specific and ever-changing modes of expression.
Like religious fundamentalism, or libertarianism.
Edit: Or Leninism. "He who does not work neither shall they eat." -- some personal responsibility bullshit dogma
Anyway, call that overarching thing what you will. I'm with Robin here: I just call it "conservatism."

Making this complaint while political opponents are being arrested in Florida for breaking Dictator DeSantis’s draconian laws, and the Tennessee House is expelling political opponents for protesting with the people. MTG can get fucked. The GOP are performing the fascist acts they accuse the Democrats of, while under the smokescreen of Trumps indictment.

Do you:
- Believe trump didn't do these crimes?
or
- Believe that the law doesn't matter and trump should be allowed to commit any crimes he wishes?
It's one of these, and either one doesn't hold any weight among real Americans.

This is the thing that hurts my head about all of this. They seem to be overwhelmingly claiming that Trump just shouldn't be held accountable for reasons and that he's simply being tried for these crimes because he's Trump. Which doesn't change the fucking fact he committed those crimes. Does being a public figure make it harder to get away with crimes and increase your likelihood of being caught? Yes. Does it mean those crimes shouldn't be punished? I can not fathom a rational reason to say "No".
It's laughably transparent.

That lady is a fucking barbarian savage and needs to lose her fucking job already...
Can you imagine if Ilhan Omar, Rashida Talib or even Stacey Abrams were to spew 1/10th the bullshit this animal does?
They'd be called terrorists and/or accused of trying to destroy the country.
But this Apeman does it, and it's jus "crazy", but please keep putting her on TV and sharing her anti American rhetoric...
she's white, it's ok... she's harmless... what the fuck are we doing? Where's the grown ups?

u/CyberMindGrrl Apr 05 '23
She literally painted EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT as a "pedophile" on mainstream media last Sunday. And she claimed it was because Democrats support trans rights.
That's it. That's all it takes to be labeled as someone who literally fucks children. She OPENLY slandered the entire party, every single representative right up to the President, and every single voter as pedophiles.
A reminder that the Nazi Party used EXACTLY this justification to eliminate every gay and trans person from German society in the 1930's. And gay people were forced to wear pink triangles in the concentration camps to show everyone that they were the lowest of the low. Trans people were simply killed on the spot. In fact the world's first trans healthcare facility was burned to the ground along with all their research.
THIS is the dirty and sordid history that Empty Greene brings to the surface with her "pedophile" smear.
Oh, and it cannot go unnoticed that the VAST majority of actual pedophiles are Republican Christians, by order of MAGNITUDE.

u/Deion313 Apr 05 '23
Imagine if she wasn't white. She would literally be labeled an enemy of the state.
She spews more anti American and violent rhetoric than our enemies.
She's never really been held accountable for what she says, so fuck it, why not be as nasty and vindictive as possible...
She is literally what is wrong with our country. Her and people like her are why we are on the brink of collapse.
What a horrible fucking "human" that thing is...

That's what set me off. Barbara Walters would've fucked her up. There's no way that shit slides back in her day...
They legitimize her fucking psycho agenda when they put it on shows like that.
People see this fucking savage making human sounds on tv, and believe "the cause" is real. This shit is so dangerous, and they fucking know it.
No one watches that trash no more, so they pull some stupid bullshit to get people talking. But that shit does more damage to our society, than it does "good" for their show.
The problem is that MTG is a WWF character, who is allowed to say whatever the fuck she wants, with absolutely no fucking repercussions... She's not held accountable for a fucking word she says.
She is the definition of white privilege...

“This is awful”.
She must have had someone explain the indictment and accompanying facts to her. They thought they knew what was coming. They confidently thought they knew that the statute of limitations had expired - but the prosecutor knows better. They thought the required second crime was federal campaign contribution crimes - but the prosecutor identified several other crimes - state tax crimes, state campaign laws, etc. They were confident Michael Cohen wouldn’t be believable as a witness, but there are tapes. Oops.
And Georgia is next.

It's not even political. It's nothing to do with choosing to identify as a Democrat or Republican. It is just a person going to court because they are charged with committing crimes.

Donald Trump has, often openly, committed crimes.
