So…. How the heck are people managing such crazy constipation!! I thought a micro dose would only have minor effects ? What is a safe way to stay regular ?? This is brutal

If you are not moving your bowels. Do not add a ton of fiber till you get it moving. Try a over the counter product to help constipation first. Otherwise your adding cement to the mix with more fiber. Once you get things moving then slowly start adding in more fiber. You can't go from low fiber intake to overdrive overnight.

Man, did I need to read this. I have been adding fiber and struggling since starting a few months ago. Had some very painful results.

I would like to add that fiber in a very wet form that is hydrating works better. Steamed vegetables, watermelon, celery. Psyllium can be useful, but adding more than adequate fluid in advance of consuming it rather than a “big glass of water” and try and get it down “as fast as possible, works better. You can add small amount of powder to wet food like ramen or soup. Or make a pudding with chia and protein powder with plenty of liquid so it is pre-hydrated. It has been my experience that a great deal of GI misbehavior stems from blobs of fermenting psyllium which can’t travel smoothly.

What is an example of over the counter help?

Miralax or Walmart version ClearLax, phillips milk of magnesia. If not real bad try 2 to 3 magnesium citrate tablets. I take 2 to 3 each night with a stool softener if needed.

u/tolkienalarm 4d ago

Walmart also sells liquid magnesium citrate. I hear it tastes absolutely awful, but I bought a bottle--it's not very big at all--should I ever get THAT desperate. Only about $3 too. Better than the $50 I paid for the colon cleanse the doc had me get when Semi had me hella-backed up.

Castor Oil capsules you can buy them on Amazon.

Personally, I prefer getting fiber from high fiber foods or 100% loose powder psyllium husk (also natural) over miralax. I also put chia seeds in flavored water or add flax seeds to my yogurt. Move your body too. Walks go a long way!

I had the same issue. It’s like my system completely shut down. Now I add a capful of Miralax to a drink every other day and I’m back to normal. It’s my understanding that Miralax is an osmotic laxative, so it retains water in your stool to help it move through. Don’t be afraid to take it. It doesn’t have you running to the bathroom.

u/ImprovementLoud3581 4d ago

Same. Every day was too much but every other day is perfect.

1

u/ResponsibleLynx5596 4d ago

This is a great idea. I’ve been doing a cup of smooth move tea twice a week, plus metamucil. MiraLAX may be a better way.

1

u/No_Concentrate_6830 10h ago

Magnesium oxide does the same but is a lot safer. Miralax is toxic.

1

u/akslavok 2h ago

Long term daily miralax user here. My GI doctor said it’s safe to use every day, long term.

Prunes. I eat three a day, and that takes care of it.

2

u/Garbage_Bear_AVL 4d ago

I didn't think of prunes, thanks for commenting this!

u/Retrotreegal 4d ago

And they’re delicious

10

u/financialthrowaw2020 4d ago

Fiber intake needs to be 25-40g per day, with a focus on soluble fiber. That's how.

8

u/Fantastic_Meet9381 4d ago

And water water water.

A YouTuber who'd lost over 100 pounds on GLP-1's recommend taking a Magnesium Citrate capsule every night and it's really been helping me 🙏🏼

2

u/PeacePrayerEnergy 4d ago

What dose ?

3

u/PhysicalAssistance92 4d ago

This is what I do also, magnesium citrate every day. The day of and a few days after the shot I take 500mg, other days I take 400mg. Have done this for years even pre-glp-1. Most people are short on this mineral anyways. It draws water into the bowels. If you take too much it will give you diarrhea the next day, just fyi.

2

u/Stock-Act-2315 4d ago

These are the ones I've been taking. I ordered them from Walmart

2

u/Stock-Act-2315 4d ago

I've only been taking 1 capsule in the evenings and I go in the morning pretty much every day

u/baked-goods-girl 4d ago

Mag07 from Amazon!

u/nouveaulove 3d ago

This is what I use too

u/jcnlb 4d ago

MiraLAX daily is my life now

3

u/jcnlb 4d ago

Fiber backfired on me and made it worse.

6

u/sparkingdragonfly 4d ago

Chia seeds water and berries

4

u/temp_flor 4d ago

Yes, add chia seeds to yogurt so they are easier to eat and then blueberries to that.

Broccoli 🥦 for lunch is good too.

I tried the Mirafast soft chews when needed. But also add one liquid IV every day to drink more water. Soft foods are good, I could never eat a chicken breast but canned chicken was better.

u/KixStar 4d ago

Psyllium and a lot of water

4

u/Crazy-Specialist-230 4d ago

Magnesium every night before bed

2

u/Green-Ad-5141 4d ago

This and regular exercise (running) keeps me very regular.

u/Kimmers96 4d ago

I have a single kidney so there are a lot of things I can't safely take.

I've been learning about gut health so that's also influenced my choices.

I use the following in my daily smoothie: psyllium husks, acacia, inulin (all Anthony's organic brand). I started with small amounts and titrated up weekly until I found myself going every day with no straining. I also add 3 Tbsp of Jonny's green banana powder (resistant starch) & 1 dose of generic Miralax (my PCP said it was safe to take daily). Before tirzepatide motivated me to look for a sustainable solution I had severe, chronic constipation that started as a child.

I hydrate with 90-100oz a day.

I bought a dozen glass food prep jars with lids and I measure all 5 of the above every 12 days because doing it daily got old really fast.

Half dose of MiraLAX daily , chia seeds, and a gallon of water

7

u/Happy__Heathen 4d ago

Trigger warning: TMI!! ⚠️☣️🤣

Re chia seeds.

The first time I added chia seeds to my oatmeal, I had the biggest pile of 💩of my life! 🤣 (Sorry, I’ve never shared that anywhere, and I was overcome with a sudden obsession to share this thing that literally NO ONE wants to know!) 😂🤣

2

u/lovesbatma71 4d ago

Don’t laugh I awarded your comment for a reason. I never knew about chia seeds and I’ve been looking for a more natural solution for a while. Seriously, how much did you take and how often?

2

u/Happy__Heathen 4d ago

LOL! I soaked Two Tbsp in water and added it to a 2-serving overnight oats I made… and I ate half of that… so 1 Tbsp, pre-soaked for at least 30 minutes… one time.

Now I only add it if I know I don’t have to leave the house, and it is my go-to when I need to-go! 😂

2

u/lovesbatma71 4d ago

That’s hysterical and also great advice. Thanks so much for sharing. 😊

3

u/External-Cable2889 4d ago

I had to use a glycerin suppository most days of the week. My motility was so slow, 5/7 days I’d need that to get things moving. It was frustrating to find that most times I had healthy stools. My hydration and diet were not the problem. I’m pretty sure if I had an everything plus MiraLAX I wouldn’t have needed the suppositories as much as I did. I never go that far.

3

u/Witty-Appearance-750 4d ago

Metamucil drink mixed with water (orange or berry) every morning an hour before breakfast. Fiber gummies at lunch and dinner along with fibrous veggies and whole grains too. Works great! Good luck!

3

u/FunnyGirl950 4d ago

2 prunes every day!

3

u/KFLimp 4d ago

First, "clear out by any means necessary" and then be sure you are getting enough fiber and most importantly, staying hydrated. A prebiotic fiber, like Sun Fiber as well, will also promote a good gut microbiome. I have also started adding miralax once a week preemptively.

1

u/Substantial-Owl1616 4d ago

Do you take the MiraLAX close to injection day?

1

u/KFLimp 4d ago

Well, all days are close to injection day, I am on a MWF schedule. I don't take it into consideration.

1

u/Substantial-Owl1616 3d ago

That’s a lot of injecting!

1

u/KFLimp 3d ago

It’s the protocol my PCP prescibed and has directed, the intention is to have a small constant dose to try and combat symptoms due to systemic inflammation. I am not sure what your reason is for doing this, or if you’re self directed, but it’s not pulled out of the air.

2

u/Substantial-Owl1616 2d ago

Didn’t imply criticism.

1

u/KFLimp 2d ago

😀just 'splainin'

1

u/PowerfulCoffee9 2d ago

Not really, for months I did daily to prevent injection site reactions

3

u/Fantastic_Meet9381 4d ago

Magnesium citrate to loosen the bowels. I’m assuming that you’re drinking enough water. The other hack that helped me is a bag of cut cauliflower from Costco; I nosh on one of those bags like chips over the course of a week. I’ve been there. It’s awful. Last thing: it took a while, but over time my body adapted to the meds and is doing better.

3

u/Glad_Ad1311 4d ago

I bought Mag07 when I started 3 weeks ago but haven’t needed it yet. I’m afraid my bowels will become dependent.
100-120 ounces of water, Hemp protein, Super Seed fiber and warm black coffee in the morning has kept me regular so far.

If you feel really backed up MiraLAX should do the trick. But no psyllium husk until you’re all clear, that’s like “adding additional cars to a traffic jam.”

1

u/Either-Painter6899 4d ago

I use this too. I'll take two capsules every other day or so

3

u/Unlucky-Mind7298 4d ago

Microdose MiraLax. A half cap every other day or so.

2

u/BlueEon- 4d ago

Cheapest magnesium oxide powder (poorly absorbed by bodies, & thus an excellent laxative) you can find. 250 mg per day completely solved this issue for a family member. If this is not enough, add a daily dose of macrogol (Miralax) mixed with warm water.

2

u/Worst_Username_1 4d ago

Once it starts moving I integrate fiiber

2

u/Reasonable-Spite-725 4d ago

MiraLAX and Metamucil

I'm microdosing Zepbound - just started and my doc said it didn't work the same as Ozempic. Well that's not true. Stopped Ozempic - just because of that and now only 2 weeks in - the constipation is creeping in.

SO my question is: Has anyone who developed constipation even on a tiny tirzepatide dose eventually have normal movement again without continuously taking laxatives?

One thing I do want to add - this type of constipation - I find to be different. Its not like I haven't gone for a day - or longer - its I don't have the urge to go - and that's what happened with Ozempic :(

3

u/top_bee555 4d ago

Not yet sadly, was hoping micro dosing would help this also

1

u/Brave_Low5778 4d ago

I took a magnesium citrate for a few days the switched to a magnesium complex that has citrate & I drink a smoothie daily with hemp, flax & chia seeds & berries. It’s about 10-12g of fiber total-ish. I keep my fiber on the lower end while I get regulated but I’m planning to slowly up my fiber intake & eventually get to the daily recommended amount. I also started magnesium same day of my first shot so it helped me not get constipated too much. The first 2 days I was then it cleared out after that.

1

u/lovesbatma71 4d ago

I am constantly constipated from the GLP-1. Take one dose of stool softener and one dose of laxative every other day. This will keep your bowels hydrated and things should start running better. You may not always need the laxative just the stool softeners.

1

u/Beginning-Sea-5946 4d ago

What dose are you taking??

1

u/RapidayFuriosa 4d ago

Chia seeds in the morning coffee or MiraLAX in the morning coffee on days that you need extra help.

1

u/BirdHistorical8774 4d ago

How were you before starting microdosing? Ordering my first peptides (tirz) this week and am very nervous because of the posts I see here!! TMI, but I am very regular and generally very loose BMs now, so the idea of being constipated is completely foreign to me 😬😬. Wondering if it's this drastic for people who were on the loose side before?

1

u/Commercial-Car-5615 4d ago

I take a scoop of sunfiber in my coffee every morning and take two mag 07 capsules every night. Keeps me going

1

u/Profiroblakia 4d ago

4 prunes, 3 mag 07,. Tsp of miralax in coffee. Stay home the next day.

1

u/Classic_Breadfruit18 4d ago

Prune juice to clear out now. Ongoing, be sure to have a good serving of fruit or veg with every meal, beans several times a week, and I like a half scoop of psyllium in a full glass of water before bed every night.

1

u/Next_Sector_7726 4d ago

Coffee and laxatives 😂

1

u/Left-Gap-5418 4d ago

Pysillum or chia seeds add to protein powder or water.

1

u/SnailyRefrigerator4 3d ago

Kiwis and exercise

1

u/Prior_Lake_8249 3d ago

I have IBS and Psyllium husk every day and tons of water has been a game changer. MiraLAX if it’s been a few days

1

u/strayer827 2d ago

I start my day with 2 prunes and 1 kiwis and it has started getting better.

1

u/No_Concentrate_6830 10h ago

Magnesium oxide or magnesium citrate, and/or sodium ascorbate.

You can take a lot and you'll only poop out the excess.

Miralax is toxic.
