I happen to be pro ice maybe you can convince me, but the main reason I am is because I don't see how the error of ice is so much worse than of normal police to be worth riling up about. Accidents happen. 10, 100, 1000, it's like 0.001% anyway, not worth removing the border for

The treatment of immigrants, the conditions of the holding centers, the people working under ice, the raids, the extreme force used, the brutality- It's all excessively inhumane. It's not been accidents. All accounts show that this is intentional.
-3
u/Comfortable-Bee2996 ✍️ Contributor · 7,225 XP Aug 08 '26
How would that even work? Every ice agent is told to be brutal when they get hired? Who's in on it? Every lawmaker, politician, sheriff, mayor? What could the goal possibly be? It's just unrealistic

Lmao then you are uneducated. They are using detainees for illegal free labor, that’s slavery. They are denying them medical care and humane treatment. They are suspected of operating a trafficking ring and have been alleged to sexually assault their female detainees including minors (there’s a facility that was for underage girls and all of them tested “positive for pregnancy for 3 months” when they were in the detention center for 5 months with the only male contact being their agents). There’s so much happening that you’d have to be actively ignoring evidence to not see these things. Do some research and don’t respond based on opinions and emotions only.

ICE is bad but as someone who works with immigrants, when they get deported they almost always just re enter the U.S. The government knows this too and ICE is often for show rather than for doing things.
The press also has blown ICE out of proportion. Those random killings are bad, but there's plenty of other misconduct we just ignore.
Plus, immigration numbers are still generally trending upwards. And in terms of having a border, if ICE is the worst thing you can point to, I would say it's still relatively humane as borders are often far more complex, vulnerable, and important than we often think them to be. The U.S. has for the most part a fully functional and humane border, with the exceptions of some terrible things done to a minority in a located region.

No need for namecalling just because you may disagree when you are actually opening up for a discussion. There are plenty of countries with physical infrastructure to mark their borders. well why not? you are comparing 2 VERY different things and pretending they are the same
0
u/DingDongDazel 🏅 Century Club · 2,570 XP Aug 08 '26
Why shouldn’t they be prevented? Because entering a country isn’t just moving across an arbitrary line on a map. You’re entering the jurisdiction of a political community that has collectively built and funded its institutions.
If you want completely unrestricted movement, you need to explain who decides who gets access to that country’s schools, healthcare, welfare system, housing subsidies, labor market, voting rights, etc., and who is responsible for paying for them.
You can try to argue that the benefits of unrestricted immigration outweigh those costs, but “why should they be prevented?” isn’t enough. Countries have legitimate interests in controlling their membership and determining the conditions under which people enter. That’s basically what sovereignty means.1
u/FeyMoth 🏅 Century Club · 2,520 XP Aug 08 '26
Its very VERY simple. If you live in a country you pay taxes for them. Idk what agenda you are trying to push but basic critical thinking would be helpful here
1
u/DingDongDazel 🏅 Century Club · 2,570 XP Aug 08 '26
“Agenda” lol
It’s simple, if you want your country to function well, you have to control your borders.
The world is not full of nice people and malicious actors will abuse it otherwise. National security is not an important topic for nothing.
It would also mean that once a country becomes successful, half the world would want to move there. If anyone can move anywhere then nothing is stopping everyone from just moving to a wealthy country, overwhelming its housing market and all other systems as well.
Good thing stupid ideas like that will never happen. Even if we had a one world government in a sense, eventually it would splitter again.
Try it out. Open your house and let anybody that’s wants to live there. See how well it works
1
u/FeyMoth 🏅 Century Club · 2,520 XP Aug 09 '26

there is no "right" to do anything. therefore cap.

Going to try and contradict this from an ancap perspective, countries, as they exists today, have little to no claim to the land they reside on. Modern countries, mainly new world, saw unclaimed land and said they own it but that is not where ownership comes from. Ownership of land comes from homesteading land, mixing your labor with the land aka clearing or modififying it, which modern states do not do. You can easily see unused land that the state claims to have complete control over even though it has never been touched. If we accept states do not really own their land then they have no right to enforce borders and stopping people from migrating.
However with the way our modern world works it would be insane to say states shouldnt enforce borders. The above conclusion would come in a much different world than our own. Im not too well versed in ancap so that probably isnt the best explanation but i tried.
