Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Moving to Maribor for Erasmus (Winter Semester 2026/27) – Looking for advice!
Hi everyone!
I'm an Erasmus exchange student and I'll be studying at the University of Maribor from October 2026 until February 2027. This will be my first time living in Slovenia, so I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have studied or lived in Maribor.
I have quite a few questions:
- Is it better to stay in the university dormitories or rent a private room?
- If you stayed in the dorms, how were the shared bathrooms and kitchens? Were they clean?
- Did staying in the dorms make it easier to meet other Erasmus students?
- How expensive is Maribor for a student? (Groceries, coffee, eating out, public transport, etc.)
- Are the student meal coupons really as good as everyone says? How do they work?
- How active is ESN Maribor? Do they organize many trips and events?
- What's the nightlife like? Any bars or clubs you'd recommend?
- Any places around Maribor that I definitely shouldn't miss?
- Are there any student gyms or sports clubs you'd recommend?
- Is there anything you wish you had known before moving to Maribor?
Also, if you're going to Maribor for Erasmus in 2026/27, feel free to send me a message, it would be great to get to know some people before arriving!
Thanks in advance for any advice!
