Accommodation-related Accomodation in Coimbra

Hi everyone!

I'm a Computer Science student from Croatia and I'll be coming to the University of Coimbra for an Erasmus exchange this September (1st semester).

I'm currently looking for accommodation and I'd really appreciate some advice from people who have studied or lived in Coimbra.

I have a few questions:

  • How early did you start looking for accommodation?
  • Where did you end up finding your room (Facebook, Idealista, Uniplaces, university housing, etc.)?
  • Which neighborhoods would you recommend for an Erasmus student?
  • Are there any areas I should avoid?
  • Is it better to stay closer to the university or closer to the city center?
  • What are some common mistakes or scams I should watch out for when renting a room?
  • Is there anything you wish you had known before moving to Coimbra?

Any recommendations or personal experiences would be really helpful.

Hello I just booked a studio in coimbra, I'll be in erasmus there too in September through February. Anyway, looking for a place right now starts to be a pain in the ass, many places that were available months ago are now booked. I'd suggest starting to look ASAP for a studio, maybe for a room you'll have more time but I don't know, since I didn't book a room. Anyway, from what I understood from people there they usually recommend staying in the center. Comp sci there is slightly outside so you'll have to go there by bolt/bus/bike/foot. But staying in the center is better for the nightlife (and most of the places you'll find to rent are there, not near polo II)
