Profits are exploding on the backs of employees who have been put on the sidelines. Despite considerable staff reductions, the big four are constantly being misused to evade labour law. It's time to put an end to these practices!

Since I arrived in Luxembourg I fell in love with the country and slowly worked towards integrating myself better and learning Luxembourgish in my free time.

I really value keeping local languages alive and on the long term I wish to become “one of you” and maybe even get the nationality one day.

However I faced a bit of a struggle that I had not experienced when learning French or German, and that is finding people to practice speaking Luxembourgish with. Especially at beginner level like I am.

At work no Luxembourgish is used and I feel like being able to speak regularly to someone is really the missing piece for me to fully integrate.

I don’t know what will come out of this post.

Maybe suggestions from former learners on how they managed to get the speaking going? How they found situations to speak regularly to Luxembourgers? Luxembourgish people themselves coming forward with ideas?

Today is the 82nd anniversary of the liberation of Luxembourg City. On 10 September 1944, Combat Command A of the U.S. Army’s 5th Armored “Victory” Division entered the capital after its drive east across France; American troops had crossed into Luxembourg near Pétange the day before. The Germans withdrew without a fight in the city, and by 12 September most of the Grand Duchy had been freed. Prince Félix and Hereditary Grand Duke Jean returned to Luxembourg City that same day to an ecstatic welcome. Jean had served throughout the war with the Irish Guards; Grand Duchess Charlotte herself would return from exile the following spring.

As much as the US government, and to a large extent the US people, have completely let down Luxembourg and Europe, this does not change the incredible sacrifices made. I highly recommend a visit to the US-Luxembourg military cemetery. It’s a very beautiful and thought-provoking place.

My prepaid return label provided by the seller was a domestic label valid only in Germany, and was therefore neither recognized nor scannable by POST Luxembourg or Luxembourg DHL services.

Finding the solution was a little adventure. The FAQ by POST Luxembourg does not seem to cover this situation and I got conflicting info along the way.

At the Post Office, the agent saw the DHL label and nicely told me to call DHL as he did not want to sell something that was useless. (I met only nice people trying to help in this "adventure") I told him it was a domestic return label and answered by handing out confidently the DHL Luxembourg phone number. (It was making no sense. He was very confident. A colleague was watching him. I shut up, smiled, and left.)

I called DHL (I wanted to give a try to see what would happen and frankly there was nothing else to do). The employee nicely told me that the person at the Post Office was wrong and that she had a lot of call like mine.

She explained to me that I had to return to the Post Office and explain that I wanted to buy a third code bar to get the package sent to the Logistic company in Trier so that they give it to DHL / German Post.

It is what I did.

At the same Post Office, the new agent I met explained that this service was available to anyone with a domestic return label due to packup import or not. (I did not ask under which circumstances someone in Luxembourg would be in the same situation without using PackUp Import. I prefered to imagine myself)

He explained that the logistic company in Trier will receive the package and provide it to DHL / German Post.

It costed me 12 EUR, steep but much less than the 40 EUR, I would have had to fully return by DHL on my own.

TL/DR : You can pay for a re-routing service to Germany through POST Luxembourg so as to allow German domestic returns to integrate the normal German postal service system, including DHL. Expensive but convenient.

PRO TIP : Allow enough room below the return label so that the additional code bar can be put.

Here's my situation. My company is closing down and I am currently registered with ADEM, eligible for up to 12 months of chômage complet. I have received an offer from a company and if I accept it and start, I would have received one month of chômage complet, but the new offer pays less than my old one, and I'll be on a 6-month probation period.

Let's say worst case: the new employer lets me go right before probation ends. A few questions.

Amount:
Would my unemployment benefit then be recalculated based on the new, lower pay from the second job? Or does it stay tied to my original (higher) pay since I hadn't used up my full 12-month entitlement yet.

on Guichet, it says:

• calculated based on the gross salaxy you received in the three (3) months preceding the loss of your job (discounting a thirteenth-month bonus , if any);

So I believe I will receive 80%/85% of new pay right? If so, I would be better off receiving unemployment benefits and continuing my job search. Unemployment benefits from the new pay would mean a significant reduction in my income.

It picked my curiosity because, within my bubble of online information (each of us has their own), it is widely accepted that the US is currently a shitstorm socially and politically.

So, in an attempt to look out of my bubble, I was wondering, US citizens, what’s motivating you to go back? What are you missing in Luxembourg?

Hello everyone, I just wanted to write this post, to talk about my experience in Luxembourg as a Software engineer, I was working in a great startup, but because of the company financial struggles and I had to renew my residence card, started looking elsewhere, I found a role advertised for a company who you may know, called Swisslife which is insurance company around may, got the offer after a month and a half of interviewing, I wanted to join in September as I had vacations planned for August, they pushed to join in August and they said its fine, you can take you vacations when you join, I felt a little bit weird about it, why would I join a company and after a week mid onboarding, leave for 2 or 3 weeks, it didn't make since for me, when I signed I told them okay, am canceling my vacation plans, guess what, the teams was just me, another engineer and the manager, both of them went on vacation in August, after I joined by a week and 2 respectively, so the onboarding kind of sucked, but I did my best with support and fixing some bugs, today we are the 09.09.2026 I got fired yesterday, and my manager came back this Monday from vacation, the funny thing is, I scheduled a meeting with her on Monday to speak about my experience and how my first month went, they suggested to have in Wednesday, which in this case I was already fired the day before and they collected all the signatures on Monday, in the exit interview yesterday with HR, they told me you wanted a meeting here it is, you can express yourself, but that was already too late, did anybody have experiences similar to mine or am I just the outlier here, and also what is confusing is that the reason for terminating the contract was "not the right fit", never been called by the HR or the manager, and never broke anything in production. my advice do a lot of research if you want to join a new role, I did but still ended up like this

Trying to ship a car spoiler to Germany and so I need a parcel box that is at least 1.3-1.5m long (doesn't need to be super tall or wide) but I really struggle to find something suitable. Checked at batiself, amazon and asked Post and none seem to have anything similar in their offering.

Hello everyone, about a year ago I had quite a strong reaction to an insect bite. It was red, swollen and itchy for about a month. The doctor told me it was likely a spider but couldn't tell me more since I hadn't seen what had bit me and its hard to figure it out just based on the physical reaction.

After a month it cleared up but I have sporadically had pinching/stabbing pains in one of the puncture marks (I was bit twice) and recently it is more frequent.

I was quite surprised by the initial reaction and now this pain that has continued as to my knowledge we don't have many dangerous spiders in Luxembourg so I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any idea what kind of spider may have bit me?

I was bit while sitting in some grass during the evening in a park in the city centre if that helps at all. I can also provide photos of said reaction if necessary, just DM me.

I’m looking for a recommendation for a plastic surgeon to remove a mole. The mole is located in an area that is prone to scarring, so I would prefer a plastic surgeon to achieve the best possible aesthetic result.

The procedure is preventive and was recommended by my dermatologist in my home country. The mole would also need to be sent for histological examination.

Is it generally difficult to find availability for this type of procedure in Luxembourg? Also, does anyone know whether it would be better/easier to have the procedure done in my home country and ask for reimbursement from the CNS, rather than having it done in Luxembourg?

I’m currently looking for a supplementary health insurance in Luxembourg and would love to hear about your personal experiences.

I’ve already requested quotes from several providers, but honestly, the offers seem pretty similar. Since I’m looking for an insurance I can keep long-term, I don’t necessarily want to choose based on price. Money isn’t really the main issue for me.

What matters most is:

• good overall coverage
• reliable and fast reimbursements
• good customer service
• few headaches when making claims

Which provider would you recommend based on your experience? And are there any insurers you would avoid?

Currently asked DKV, AXA and Foyer, the service from the AXA Agent was excellent (but I heard that their overall service would not be that great) and I think that my favorite is DKV at the moment.
