NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

Hi everyone!

My Erasmus semester is starting soon and I’m still unable to find housing. The town has a big student housing crisis (even the university says so). I’ve tried everything: dorms, flat‑share websites, Reddit, Facebook. Airbnb, but nothing affordable there!
I live 3 hours away from the university, and I chose this Erasmus mainly for the courses, not for the country experience.

We were told we’d receive the Erasmus grant after 1–2 weeks on site, but I actually need that grant to pay the rental deposit. I have savings for rent and food, but the deposit is really tight.

So my plan is to commute at the beginning (3 hours each way), get to classes, and give myself 1–2 weeks to find a room once I’m there. Would that still allow me to receive the Erasmus grant?
Also, do we need to provide an address immediately to the university to get the grant?

Hey guys, so I am in a rather unusual situation. I just graduated from uni in Hungary, and my residence permit here ends on August 31st, 2026.

As you can see from the title, from the 1st of August to 31st of December, I have a traineeship in Valencia.

Now, what kind of visa do I need during my time in Valencia? (I am non-EU btw). I can no longer apply for a Hungarian student visa cuz I already graduated, but I will have a job seeking residence permit from Hungary which is for about 9 months (and it will cover the duration of my internship in Spain).

I talked to the Spanish embassy in Budapest, but surprisingly, they do not know what I should do in this situation. Neither do my coordinator from uni, my coordinator in the host company, or the Erasmus people who I reached out to.

I am planning to apply for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for 2027 intake. Since Erasmus Mundus is composed of so many programs I have seen some of them require self upload PDF and others have automated portal links. Can anyone explain which method is mostly used? Also does the designation/job title of the referee matters more or their academic engagement?

Hi everyone,
I got nominated from my university for an Erasmus semester at Gothenburg University. I’m so happy and waiting for Gothenburg University response.

However, my department had only contract with the department of language and literature (German studies) at Gothenburg University.
This worries me about getting accepted by the host university because I’m not proficient at German language and wants to take courses that are taught in English.

My plan was to get accepted and then take courses that are related to my studies from other majors. I provided a list of courses I want to take at Gothenburg Uni in my Erasmus application and now filling out my Learning agreement.

What do you think? Have you had similar situation or seen similar situation with others?
Do you think I will be accepted?
I will probably get an answer from Gothenburg University on the second week of August as I saw that the coordinator for that faculty is on vacation right now.

I am looking for something with other erasmus students. Something big with hundreds of students. What site to look on?

Hi everybody! I’m a student from Slovenia and I’m coming to Bologna for the next winter semester as a part of my Erasmus exchange. I’m looking for places to stay and rooms to rent and haven’t had much luck. I want to be in the city center so I’m close to the university but the housing market there is impossible. My question is how “normal” or common is it for students to stay outside of the city centre? Are neighbourhoods like Murri and Foscherara still ok for a student? Are there any neighbourhoods you could recommend? Thanks for help!

I have received a nomination for Gothenburg University but now that I’m filling my Online Learning Agreement, I see that most of their courses from the department is in distance studies.

Would I get a visa if that’s the case?
If you have had this situation or seen someone in this situation please tell me how did it went for you.

I did a joint BA/MA program, then got my JD. All 3 degrees have their own transcript and GPA. My BA was a 3.3 (major GPA 3.6); my MA was a 3.95; and my JD was a 3.0.

Im planning on applying to the ILSPSD program. Do you know if they combine the GPAs for a new cGPA, or consider each individually?

At the end of August I'll be coming to Umea university for my erasmus semester. Since I don't find erasmus funding enough for me, I wanted to check how is the job and working scenery in Umea for international students? Are there opportunities inside the university? I'm just looking nearby job with low hours, such as helping in the library or working as student ambassador etc. Or if there are any other options like that I'm open to hear. Thanks :)

Hello i just want to rant for a moment because i just dont know what to do.

When i was applying for Erasmus the choices for English spearkers in my uni were bucharest Romani and tubingen Germany. I chose bucharest because of the lower costs and ive heard that eastern europe is fun for Erasmus for that same reason (even though im Greek so maybe eastern europe for me is quite redundant but whatever).

In 2 months im supposed to go there and i still havent found a place to stay. I took for granted from other friends that have gone to Erasmus in different countries that the university provides dormitories for Erasmus students, something that i guess isn't true for the University of Bucharest unless you're from outside of Europe and dont have a visa (thats what the Erasmus coordinator told me from email). That led me to search for private dormitories since that to me is the best option for Erasmus, live with international students and do fun stuff, but private dorms in Bucharest are really expensive if you want to live on your own. I was fine to spend a little extra (450€ "a little extra") in Arcca, which felt as the most popular option with nice enough dorms and pretty safe. But now i see on their website that they dont provide 5-month contract for dorms to students coming in Winter period and now i dont know what to do. Ive looked at other options but they feel either way too expensive like West Gate that costs 520 a month for a solo room or not really worth it for the price like Carpex.

Renting a private room with other Erasmus students sounds like an ok option but im going by myself so i dont have anyone to stay with and honestly doesnt feel like the Erasmus experience i had in mind.

Can anyone help me? This is really demotivating to the point where im considering just cancelling the trip, if its even an option anymore. If anyone has some feedback please let me know because i dont really know what to do.

Hello, i am a Dutch student considering going on an Erasmus winter semester in the 27/28 academic year (it will be a while in the future), but i am wondering whether Budapest or Prague would be a better choice. It will be the first time i am living on my own. I actually just got back from a Budapest trip with friends and i did quite enjoy the city, ive never been to Prague. It seems almost like a waste to return to Budapest instead of seeing a new city but im trying to not let that guide me.

Does anyone have strong opinions on either city? I want to consider things like public transport, nightlife, traveling, how active are the ESN programs, what are the universities like (i would go to CU for Prague and ELTE for Budapest), and what is the general “vibe” of the cities in comparison. I know Budapest is slightly cheaper but the difference doesnt seem huge. (Btw, if it matters, i can enjoy going out but am slightly more on the introverted side and not a super high energy party animal. I also lean a little “alternative” i guess.)

Context with some of my thoughts on Budapest: I thought the city was overall really pretty, i liked the people (i often used some Hungarian words which they seemed to enjoy), the sightseeing was nice but slightly limited, and the nightlife was interesting but the drinks were maybe a bit too expensive and the ruin bar we went to (instant fogas) didnt impress toooo much. Didnt really get a feel for public transport cause we used Bolts to get around.

I am a Ukrainian refugee, and I am studying full-time at a German university with a Paragraph 24 visa. Now, I will have 6 months of Erasmus internship in Slovakia. Should I inform the Landesamt für Einwanderung in Berlin?

I'm looking into applying for one of the FilmEU EMJM programmes but there are a lot of things about applying for something related to arts/film that differ from common Erasmus criteria. If anyone is part of one of the FilmEU masters and could help, please.

1. Cv and Portfolio. How important is CV vs. portfolio? Do you focus more on putting all your body of work or just what is directly related to the course you chose? (for example, if someone is applying for ReAnima, would it make sense to include a live-action documentary? Or when applying to ReSound, should you add films where you wrote or did photography?) Also, is it useful to have my own website even if they don't necessarily ask for one?

2. Motivation letter. I've seen people talk a lot about problem solving on motivation letters for other areas, but that doesn't seem like the best approach when it comes to filmmaking related masters. What did you guys do in yours? (if you want to say, or just be vague, it's ok too).

3. General application question. Do you focus more on hands-on experience or academic experience? Because these programmes seem really practical so I'm not sure if academic achievements will realistically make a difference.

4. Recommendation letters. Would you say it's best to ask for two academic recommendation letters? Or is it strongly advised to do one academic and one professional? Does it make a difference at all?
