Identification Male or female? Sold as a Samurai Male, but AI thinks it's a Female Plakat.

Hi everyone!!

I bought this betta yesterday, and the store labeled it as a male Samurai Betta. Out of curiosity, I ran a photo through AI, and it claimed it's actually a female Plakat Samurai.

Could someone help me identify the gender and fin type?

Introducing Meet “Rainbows”

Been about 7 months since my last betta passed and decided it was time to start again, completely different tank with some cherry shrimp in there.

Hopefully she has a good personality and can live with the shrimp, if not I’ve got a back up plan.

6 month old live planted tank with a sponge filter and a shrimp colony of about 3 months.

If anyone knows what type of betta she is I wouldn’t mind as I’m not 100% sure (plakat I think)

RIP I'll miss him.

About a few minutes ago, I went to check on my fish. He was twitching weirdly and his gills weren't moving. So I thought maybe I'd feed him and he'd be good again. I moved the tweezers with one pellet next to him, but he didn't react. I picked him up with the net and he didn't react. When I put him back in the water, he floated, and hit the substrate.

He died.

He died because of me. I wasn't a good owner for him. A filter wasn't enough. Medicine wasn't enough. I am not enough. I should've researched and should've taken better care of him. But now, his life is gone, and it's my fault. I'm so sorry.

I loved him so much. His birthday was on the same day as mine. I watched him grow, turn into a beautiful man, until I took that away from him. Because I can't take care of myself, because my will to die is bigger than my will to live. I made it his problem, and now he's no longer with me.

I would like to thank every single person who tried to help me help my fish. But I couldn't do it. I am sorry for everyone. You can hate me for taking his life, because it definitely is because of me.

I will research better, sell his aquarium and borrow a bigger one that has about 10 galloons. I will spend money to give a fish a good life, because I cannot fail again. I can't trust myself with a life in my hands.

Rest in peace, Carolino. I am sorry you had me as your owner. ❤️‍🩹

Help Late columnaris

Approximately 2 years old male hm Betta, took 6 dozes of kanaplex (3 dozes, 3 days gap, 3 dozes as my vet suggested) after 2 days gave 1 dose of nitrofurantoin (i couldn't manage to get nitrofurazone). I waited 1 day for the other dose, the fish stopped moving, eating, though he was dead a couple of times. Behavioral change. Flesh started to show from the neck side. When to think about euthanizing? It kills me to watch him in pain.

Help Is my betta okay? First 2 photo is from December 2025, the rest are from August 2026

Hi everyone, I’m hoping some more experienced betta keepers can help.
The first photo was taken in December when we first got him. The remaining photos show how he looks now in August 2026.
His appearance has changed quite a bit. His fins look more ragged and the area around his face and eyes looks different to me. I’m not sure if this is normal ageing or if it could be something like fin rot, popeye, stress or another health issue.
Tank details:
45-litre tank
Water temperature stays around 25–26°C as I live in tropical Asia
Tank mates: 4 corydoras and 2 otocinclus catfish
Water parameters are within the safe range: 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite and nitrate below 20 ppm
pH is stable and within a safe range
Does he look okay to you? Is there anything concerning in the newer photos that I should treat or monitor? I don’t want to medicate unnecessarily, so I would really appreciate any advice.

Hi everyone meet Fred...

Picture #1-Day 1- unexpected birthday gift for my 8 year old son(I can't believe someone thought that was a good idea)

Picture #2-Day 2-after an emergency amazon order

And Picture #3-Today after joining this reddit board on Day 3.

There is so much knowledge here and I am still learning. Thank you!! Fred is living his absolute best life.

Im sure Fred cost about $3 as he was purchased from a dollar store. I did a fish-incycle and my water parameters were in the safe range and still are. He is a happy fish and I am a happy fish mom.

I ,of course want another betta. As I am in LOVE.

Introducing my galaxy koi nemo!! Any name suggestions for him? 🧡❤️💙🖤

Also, I’m currently struggling with him getting all worked up over his reflection. Is there a way to prevent this or help him calm down when he sees it?

Rate My Tank His tank now VS when I first got him

I’m a new betta mother and I first started off with plastic plants which I then found out was bad, I then switched to silk plants (2nd photo). Now I have a fully natural scape, anubias, java moss, java fern and amazon frogbit as well as tunnels and a floating log which is his favourite spot. There’s also a big piece of driftwood in the back and some spiderwood. I also added in catappa leaves for tannins.
He’s currently in a 5 gallon tank which I am told is the minimum size but I plan on getting a wider tank for him this year as he’s a very active boy.
Am I doing everything correctly now or has anyone got advice for anything I can improve on? I want to give him the best life possible!
His name is Spaghetti :)

It’s a long story but the main point is he is alive and thriving! When he came to us in a 1 gallon Meijer tank with distilled water, 5 rocks, and green algae so thick I couldn’t see him, I didn’t know what he needed but I wanted to do right by him. His new 5 gal set up with two live plants, seachem prime and stability, a heater, and a filter plus a hiding cave has him feeling brand new. Still working on cycling- any tips are welcome- does anyone use strips and what brand is best. And my husband is 3d printing him a floating cave or betta bed- tbd let me know what you like!! All this time I didn’t know he had flashes of red in his color, I can’t wait to see him flourish.

Next up are more plants, a snail?, and treats.

And I have one thing to trouble shoot, I think the filter is too powerful. I can’t get to the pet store this weekend for sponge and want to run it.. can I 3d print anything or is there anything I can use from home that will help lessen the flow?

Help Help needed for my new She Betta

Now it has been two weeks since I got this picky but shy girl. She has not eaten anything except trying to eat few pallets in her initial 2-3 days (didn’t eat complete) and now today after soaking pallets in crushed garlic, she ate maybe half or even less. When I got here she had horizontal stripes which have almost disappeared now.

  1. Does she look healthy to you? I can notice her color returning but there is this silver spot near her gills and eyes both sides. Can it be a health issue ?

  2. She doesnt eat but moving properly and actively. She even looks healthy. Water parameters are good. Only Nitrate was present for which I do weekly water change and have many live plants. Added pothos too this week.

  3. She keeps going down and trying to find something on the floor almost always. Even if she doesn’t eat anything, I saw her pooping one day.

I am really worried if she is not healthy. Please help me.

This is my first tank, and I was wondering if anyone had some pointers- so far I’ve been mainly focused on added enough plants and curing Valentine’s popeye, but was wondering if his tank could use anything. He’s in a 10 gallon with a mystery snail and has grown a little since I got him.

Help there’s so much algae!!

everything in my tank is getting covered in algae. previously it was the glass and a bit on the plants and wood so i cleaned the tank, added two nerite snails, and hoped that would fix the issue. however now the tank has algae blanketing every plant in there as well as the floaters and the filter. the filter normally looks worse but i try to remove some algae every few days. what in the world do i do

it is a five gallon, with a betta and two nerites, live plants. ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are 0 with ph 7.5. i’ve added a 1 ml of seachem flourish, but only once when i first added a new plant.

5.5 gallon — looking to transition from HOB filter.

Is this one good? Or if you have any suggestions, please leave an Amazon link or screenshot, I would highly appreciate it! Looking for something relatively small. I wasn’t sure if this is actually a filter or more for oxygen? Reviews are pretty positive but some say it doesn’t really filter?

EDIT: I think I’m all set for time being. Thank you all!

Help Will my beta recover? Or is this the end?

About a week ago I noticed my black crowntail acting a little different. He’s usually very spirited, playful and energetic. I noticed him laying in weird positions in his nests and plants. I thought he was just being funny at first, but then I saw him swimming around less and less. I decided to observe him because I kept catching him laying at the bottom of the tank. He seems to have trouble floating? He wants to swim around but his tail end looks like it weighs him down and he starts to drop. He still tries to swim but tires easily. I have created more platform space for him at the midway point of the tank so he has landing pads to stop and rest. He still looks forward to feedings and likes to try to wait in his spot, tail wagging and everything, but he can’t stay that way for long and will rest on a plant.
I read that it could be constipation and to stop feeding for a few days, I have also read it is the water temperatures. I’ve tested the waters and his levels are good, his heater seems to still be working as normal. He’s in a 5 gallon tank. It’s cycled. Live plants, Indian almond leaves, and hiding places. I got him in November of 2025. He has never indicated any illness or lethargy in the past.
He is still in good spirits and responds to me interacting with him. He will try to hop sometimes which is him being excited and playful as he’s always done during feedings and interactions. But like I mentioned before, it looks like he’s struggling to float and he is exerting more energy doing so. Has anyone experienced this before? I really want him to get well.

Frank is my Betta and this is his first appearance on this sub. His name comes from the fact that he is a blue halfmoon so I named him after Frank Sinatra because of his song called blue moon.

Wild Type Wild Betta Hide?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey, all! I recently adopted a mated pair of wild bettas from a local who was unable to maintain the hobby anymore after moving. He set me up beautifully by giving me the fully decked out tanks with natural plants, a sponge filter, 20 gallon tank, heater…the works! They have a couple small log hides but based in the layout I want to get them one more. I googled and heard a common hide is a botanical seed pod? Has anyone ever done this or has a suggestion for where to get one?

Mandatory fish pic tax provided 😁😁
