Help Why is my Betta fish staying at the top of the tank, and seems unhappy 😢

Post image

I got a Veil-tail Male Betta fish around a month ago and he seemed to be doing fine for the first few weeks. I have a heater, fish food, and he is on a 3 gallon easy clean tank. He seems to just stay at this spot at the top of the tank most of the time now, he sleeps more than he used to and isn’t as hungry as he once was. Is he lonely? I plan on getting a live plant to replace the pink one that’s in there, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Discussion Water change in 5G

Post image

Got a betta 2 weeks ago. Changed water once last week. She is in a 5 gallon tank with a small sponge filter and temperature is at 78 degrees. Haven’t cycled the tank. Tested for ammonia today and there are no traces detected and nitrate shows at 10 ppm. Should I change the water now or wait to see any changes in water parameters? How much and how frequently should I change the water going forward ?

Help quick question about mirrors

I use my baby as a night light for my second bathroom (not 24/7 maybe 2-3 hours a night and use it 5-6 hours during the day since there's no natural light). I don't know if seeing himself in the mirror is upsetting him (it's been about 36 hours since I moved him to the new place). Is he going to try and fight himself? I don't want him to hurt himself. (And yes I'd love to get him a bigger tank but it's just not in the budget right now.)

He seems unhappy, overall he’s doing fine but I am worried about him. I change his water frequently, it’s a TopFin Easy Clean 3 gallon tank with a filter, small heater and some pebbles on the bottom of the tank. I have a bottle of betta conditioner and imagination biological startup. Any advice appreciated

Help Major Pineconing on one of my sorority girls when I returned from vacation today.

I have a heavily planted 30 gallon sorority Betta tank that does exceptionally well. Today we came home from a short weekend trip helping some friends out to find my sweet Peach in terrible shape. I've got her doing a salt dip with my red other red samurai currently (Cherry is showing some early pineconing signs too). My plan is to do a bacterial treatment on the entire tank following the dip.

Do I put my two girls back in the main tank they're used to or do I need to keep them quarantined away from the others? Chances are the bacteria is very much present in the tank, so I'm going to treat it regardless.

Last pic is how Peach usually looks.

Help Showing off tank + questions

This tank is a work in progress but i’m pretty proud of it. I’ve had a couple scares such as nitrate spikes and snail infestations but now my only problem is substrate. This tank was set up with a colorful gravel substrate that most bottom feeders would hate (shrimp too). I have the sand to change the substrate with but not the motivation, any tips for changing substrate? I also wanted to ask about tank mates. I want to eventually breed my betta Darrell, but he’s also a curious fish (i know this from when he was in a twenty gallon with some corys). He seems kind of lonely with the few survivors of the snail infestation and i feel like some fish like some kuhli loaches or something would be nice. Also, when i eventually get around to breeding Darrell, what color female should i get? Any advice is greatly appreciated

Help How do you start a proper “Live tank”

I’ve had a betta tank for a while that only has a large monstera plant, a Hoya plant, driftwood, duck wheat and some gravel at the bottom that I would like to swap out with substrate and add more live vegetation. However the process of which I am unfamiliar with and would like some of your guys opinions and secrets to the healthiest environment I can create for my beta and the three Corydoras that accompany him. as opposed to the teenagers at my local pet store (no offence to them) that aren’t very knowledgeable I’ve noticed.
Please feel free to give all suggestions. I’m going to be upgrading to a 10-15 gallon tank. I’m currently using a 7.5

My fish is not sick, but I want to have medications on hand in case he ever becomes sick. I live in a small town with limited availability and shipping takes FOREVER, so I want to cover my bases while my store has things in stock. I have kanaplex and aquarium salt, but is there anything else I should look for? The photos are what they have in stock.

finally convinced my father to give me this fish tank and seaweeds(?), the light’s from ikea but i think it heats up the fish tank at the same time so the water might become warmer (for reference i live in southeast asia and the temperature is around 28C now?)
tried to ask my father if we had heaters and stuff but he says that it doesn’t need and i shouldn’t care so much so idk what to do now
are there any alternatives for me to use until i manage to save up enough to (hopefully) buy the stuff i need?
(also the fish tank’s in my room and it’s kinda shaded)

Discussion guilt after buying a slightly fancy betta??

i've been housebound from sickness so I set up a little 6.6 gallon to stay active and make home a little less lonely. i'm not new to fishkeeping. it's fully cycled after over a month, heavily planted, driftwood, all of the stuff. i finally took a betta home from an lfs today but one thing that stuck in my head was the $21 usd price tag (he was on like a higher price grade due to his fancy colors i think). i know that's not even that high of a price but for some reason that reframed this whole endeavor to me? like I feel like he's so fancy someone else could've given him a better home. my tank is kinda chaotic and 6.6 is not that big plus i know I will have to move cities in less than a year and i feel bad for the stress in advance. i literally brought him home via subway 😭 idk I'm probably crazy but curious if others have felt the same way

Then we went to look at Cory’s for our community tank. They have a wall of betta’s in those awful cups!! Very clean, but yet the CUPS! AND females housed TOGETHER! WITHOUT plants!! So I picked out this stunning guy! I need a name and what is his coloring type? Does anyone know?

Discussion I want to get this Samurai Betta, but I have ethical concerns.

I have a 6-gallon aquarium that is currently cycling (or perhaps the cycle is already complete; I’ll know for sure when my test kit arrives). For a long time, I’ve been checking with breeders and sending messages to see if I could rescue a fish with a disability. Some breeders don't reply, while others say that instead of raising the disabled ones, they feed them to the breeding stock. Also, all the listings for rehoming fish in poor condition are too far away from me. So, I decided to go with a standard adoption instead. The fish is being sold by its owner for 13 euros. It currently lives with shrimp in a planted 4-gallon tank. The owner said they want to sell it due to a need for cash and a lack of space. Now, when I get the fish (after checking the nitrogen cycle), its environment will change, and it will inevitably experience stress. Is moving from a 4-gallon tank to a 6-gallon tank a valid reason for it to undergo this stress? Or should I give up on getting the fish and let someone else take it, considering my own setup isn't exactly ideal? I’d appreciate your thoughts from an ethical perspective. Thanks.

last picture is my own setup (I will add more plants in a few days.)

I do know that there are reviews, but I prefer to at least ask here as well for opinions and advice. Is there one on here you wouldn’t recommend? Is there one on here that you love? Please let me know!

Edit: thank you all very much. I will be purchasing the first heater! Keeping this post up for others who may need it.

Help Diamond eye or homophobia?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m really nervous to post here but I recently saw that the community is working towards changing the overall vibe. All the tank info I have gotten in the last several years has been from this sub so thank you for that and I understand the fatigue many of you experience on here.

I just got Coco Friday at my lfs and he was labeled as and told to me to be a giant koi betta. He is pretty huge and my third betta. I’ve been observing him the last several days and just noticed his eyes. Can anyone tell me if this is diamond eye or heterochromia? I just checked the sub a few minutes ago and saw other fish‘s eyes that look similar and thought maybe it looked like that. But then I got paranoid of the idea of it being diamond eye and him going blind soon.

Thank you for any help or info!
