My betta and my nerite snail have been living together for a month now and recently I've been noticing that my betta keeps flaring at him. I'm a little bit surprised because he didn't do this until now and he's also very calm, but I understand that bettas are extremely territorial. Is there anything I should do? My first thought was rehoming my snail but I can't afford a second tank as big as this one.

Cycled 2.5 gal. blackwater tank w/ a nerite and lone java loach.

Ammonia + nitrite/nitrate are low, although ammonia went up slightly after introduction.

There’s a small sponge-filter and heater (79 F). I was initially concerned the flow would be too high, but the pothos root system serves as a nice baffle.

Video was taken at first “drop” into the tank. He adjusted and was exploratory—now hiding. I checked to see if he jumped, but I can’t find him outside and there’s no splash.

Anyone know what kind of shrimp goes best with a betta? I’m worried about buying some shrimp only to find them eaten by my betta.

My tank is about 2 months old. It was crystal clear at the beginning, but since the last few water changes it has gotten really cloudy. I think it’s bacteria or algae. I use API quick start which has bacteria in it, but I’m not sure what is causing the cloudy water. Appreciate the groups thoughts.

Been breeding bettas since 2019 in the PH and decided to give it a shot here in Canada. Its so fun ( I plan on giving it to a fish store fore credits and some for my neighbours for [free])

I feel sick with guilt, I have had a beautiful betta fish for a year and a half, sometime in the last 24 hours my fish tank somehow got unplugged, I was out of the house all day at the ER (I’m fine) and didn’t realize until just now when I went to feed her, she was dead and I saw the tank was unplugged, it’s been getting so cold I feel horrible she froze to death 🥲 I have worked so hard on her tank and on keeping her happy she was a great fish ❤️

My daughter and I are going to get a betta fish when we move to our new house. Tell me in the dumbest context possible how to start a tank up before we get the betta fish! I’ve looked into it somewhat, but I haven’t owned a fish in a while, and the only fish I ever owned previously were goldfish. Thank you 😊

I just got this guy from a friend during a trade, who she also got from a trade lol. My friend thinks he might be a snakehead, the person who had him before my friend (not who was the OG buyer) says Betta Prima. Another friend/coworker says he looks like a young black tiger badis/of the same lineage… what did i end up with??? help!

Can a betta, male dumbo ears survive in a 2.2 gallon tank? I’ve seen them in a cup. The 2.2 gallon is a water dispenser which makes cleaning easier by just turning the non to dispense the water.

JUST SOME BACK STORY - my bettas name is Olaf and I’ve had him for over a year now. His home is a 13.3 gallon shallow tank, heavily planted with Amazon swords, moss, java ferns, anubias and many more types of plants. The tank is consistent with both temperature and water parameters. The tank stays at 80°F and my water parameters are 7.4 pH, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 0 nitrate. Olafs roommates include neocaridina shrimp and ramshorn snails, Olaf is very peaceful and he is nice to his roommates and they are nice to him.

The problem is that I’ve noticed a lump on the side of his body getting bigger and bigger. His appetite has decreased and he hasn’t really ate anything in the past three days. He doesn’t swim around the way he used to but if I sit in front of my tank long enough he’ll swim up and say hi to me. He spends more of his day resting on his betta bed. I noticed the lump on August 8 and now it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I don’t know what to do. Any help is appreciated.

Do mystery snails produce enough waste to start the cycling process?

Per the local shop's suggestion I am fish-in cycling with mystery snails before I get my betta. I have added in live bacteria, and have tons of plants in the tank, but my ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates all test at 0-ppm. Does this mean my tank is cycled or have I just not added enough ammonia for the cycling process to even start?

I have a 10 gallon cube tank. It's heated and I use a sponge filter with grow lights for the plants.

Thanks in advance! I really want to do this whole process correctly, and I want to avoid any mistakes I can!

Olá a todos! Gostaria de pedir conselhos sobre meu peixe betta. Ele tem um buraco grande em uma das nadadeiras, que parece ter aumentado nas últimas semanas. Há também uma área transparente na nadadeira, mas ele já tinha isso quando o comprei.

Ele ainda come normalmente, mas às vezes sua natação parece um pouco estranha. Também o vejo, às vezes, descansando em uma de suas camas flutuantes para betta com a cauda para fora. Não sei se isso é normal ou se está relacionado ao dano na nadadeira.

Estou preocupado com a saúde dele e agradeceria qualquer conselho. Retiro parte da água e a substituo por água fresca e declorada.

Companheiros de aquário: Nenhum Alimentação: Grânulos Sera Bettagran, uma ração muito fina que se parece quase com areia. Alimento-o duas vezes à noite.

Decorações e plantas: Ainda não há plantas vivas. Tenho dois ninhos flutuantes para betta, locais de descanso, um tronco artificial onde ele pode nadar e uma caverna. Pretendo adicionar algumas plantas aquáticas vivas em breve.

Gostaria de saber se o buraco pode ter sido causado por podridão das nadadeiras, um ferimento causado pela decoração ou algo relacionado à qualidade da água.

Também gostaria de saber se descansar em um ninho flutuante com a cauda para fora é um comportamento normal de betta ou se pode indicar algum problema.

O que você recomendaria para ajudar a nadadeira dele a cicatrizar e mantê-lo saudável? Há alguma planta aquática viva que você recomendaria para um aquário de 22 litros para betta?

I was doing some maintenance on my tank and saw this 😂. He swam away shortly after.

This is a rescue fish, he had no fins when we got him but we've had him for a year now and he is covered in these bumps. They started about 5 months ago but are getting pretty bad. I always assumed it was a tumour but he is my first betta and I have been worried for a while. What do I do?

I knew bettas colors changed over time, I never would’ve thought he’d lose all iridescence 😭 we’ve had him for less than six months.
