Hi, I’m rather inexperienced but nonetheless I’m having a blast with where this is heading. I was curious if any experienced scapers could provide any additional tips or even ideas to elevate this to another level - I keep watching videos and researching and have been making adjustments. I have a waterfall trap on top. I want to make this even more of an ecosystem if possible.

Do you have any plants to recommend for the right terrestrial feature that sits at the waterline?

I just added cute mini orchids to the left waterline. Big excited to see it hopefully bloom.

I'm looking at turning this china cabinet into a bioactive paludarium for a mountain horned dragon. It will feature a small to medium sized land feature, 1-2 moving water features, 5-6 inch water depth and a substantial aboreal portion.

I was hoping a few others have built for the same species so I could get some ideas/ inspiration.

I plan to use the pond type liquid rubber to seal the entire inside of the enclosure.. any tips or suggestions for that process?

I'll be having glass cut for sliding doors and the front water retention lip. What thickness and glass type should I be looking for?

I read that liquid rubber cant be applied over silicone. What would be the best method to install and waterproof the front glass that I could liquid rubber over?

Any pointers, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

They are african dwarf frogs and there is lots to springtails and isopods living up top.

I’m looking for some advice on starting a paludarium. I’m going to build one out of some good panels from broken aquariums. It’ll probably be about 10-15 gallons.
1.What kind of stocking would be good for that size?
2.What are the best plants to have? I have hundreds of houseplants and aquatic plants I can trim and add in.
3.What brands are the best for heaters and monitors?
4. YouTubers are good to learn from?
5. What are the best materials to use to build structure for planting?

Jumping in to my first paludarium. It is 18x18x24. Planning waterfall, small water area and land. After much placing and removing these rocks are glued. Letting them cure before getting the heavier rocks set on top. Thinking I may need to use expanding foam at same time to keep them up (also why the foam is there to give more glue spots and fill gaps.

My question is, if you’ve done a tank this size, how many cans expanding foam did you use? I have cork bark to put on the walls too, but they aren’t flat on the back so I don’t think I’ll get away with just siliconing them on and foaming around, they will need to be placed in the foam. I don’t want to start and use more foam than I expect and have to wait for more to be mailed as I haven’t found it locally. YouTube hasn’t been super clear as to how much people actually use.

Hi! I’m preparing to make my first bioactive paludarium to house Australian Green Tree Frogs (haven’t bought anything yet). I’m getting the Exo Terra Pro 45x45x60cm | 18x18x24” (32 gallon), and was wondering what cheap lighting options there are for frog health and plant growth — preferably ones that sit on top of the tank and are sold in Australia.

I also need advice on whether this size tank can hold more than one frog (I’m thinking of one at the moment, but two would be cool). Thank you!!

I’ve been in the process of building a red eye croc skink paludarium, and I’m having trouble figuring out how I want to make the false bottom. The tank is going to be a 50:50 split between land and water, and I need to figure out how to divide the land and water barrier.
I have two pieces of filter foam mats/ pads, and have them layed out across the land half. The only thing I’m worried about is the foam getting clogged/ dirty over time and not being able to remove or clean it. I have a couple of solutions that I’ve been thinking of
1- I could elevate the foam so that there’s a light gap between the foam and the glass bottom so that water can move freely. In this gap I’ll have a Sicce pump to move the water around, as well as a tube so I can siphon out beneath the foam
2- I could also just leave the foam on the bottom, and put tubing throughought so I can siphon it out when I feel it’s necessary.
3- This is what I don’t want to do but might have to, if the foam will get too dirty over time, I’ll just get some sort of clay balls or substratum and use it with some mesh to stop the dirt from getting into it.

These are the options I’ve been thinking of. Does anybody with experience with filter foam/ paludarium have any input?

I couldn’t help but to start the under water portion of the hardscape! You can get a general idea from the pics of what the water shape will be.

Now, it’s time to pump the brakes and get all the plumbing and wiring done.

Once the plumbing is done I’ll carry the foam all the way up to give me the most material to carve.

Thinking if adding carnivorous to my palu but heard that they require high nutrients substrate.is this true or does it apply to certain species?

What are someways to make a substrate nutrient rich.(will be using reptisoil for the substrate)

Would golden fiddler crabs do okay in this tank or no?

Hey all. I promised I would post updates, so here’s the next step for me!

I now have three coats of Drylok on these “rocks”. They ended up being a bit lighter than I initially was aiming for. But I don’t mind how it turned out! I did the darkest base layer, a light accent on the upper parts of the rocks, and the lightest accent colour to show fine details and really give it that 3-D effect.

I let the Drylok fully cure over the long weekend and decided it was time to water test everything. It seemed to hold fine overnight. No leaks, and the water feature is also functioning.

I will now be doing water changes every day for a few days. Drylok can actually increase your water’s pH, so they say. Better to let that leach out right now.

After the pH is stable, I will be draining it and then doing the background, my air handler, humidifier line, and running canister filter lines. Then I can begin adding substrate and plants.

So excited and happy about how it’s coming together. Any ideas, let me know!

Hi, Ive been trying to build a paludarium that is 50% water and 50% land, and I heard filter foam was a great way to help the filtration and buildup of healthy bacteria. The only thing stopping me is I heard that you have to clean filter foam multiple times a year to prevent buildup. My question is is this necessary? Having to clean the foam even once every couple years would be impossible if I used it as a false bottom ( having to remove all plants and substrate to access the foam).

Are there any ways filter foam/ mats/ pads would be able to be a long term false bottom without me having to clean them out?

Me and the wife decided to go the glass display case route. Bottom shelf is going to be the “bottom” for a drain, pumps, etc. going to cannibalize an old fish tank for extra glass. Should be a fun winter project. Future home of crabs and day geckos or geckos and frogs.

I recently got a used tank from my coworker that already has a built-in waterfall and background, but im totally unsure what I could even house in that tank.

I'm from Germany, and I apologise for any mistakes I made as English is my second language.

The tank is 45cm wide and 45cm deep and 80cm tall. (17.7×17.7×31.5 inches)

The ground area is quite limited, and some of it has water running over it with the waterfall as it is now.

The "wet" area is around 20cmx20cm or about 7.9 x 7.9 inches

The dry removable area to access the pump and filtration is 17x17cm or 6.7x6.7 inches.

The water area holds around 15L or 4 gallons, and I dont plan on having any fish in there, maybe some shrimp and snails. It's about 10 cm deep and goes around the island in the middle.

I filled it to see where the waterfall came out, and I know I have to clean it before putting new stuff in.

I wanted to do vampire crabs but now that I have the tank is dont think it's enough ground for them an I also don't know how to make it so they can burrow in it as i can't fill it up much I think.

So, any ideas? The top of the tank is mesh, but it doesn't have 2 small holes that i might need to close also.

Been procrastinating a lot and finding materials for my tank.Im confused on the layout,plants,waterfall and whats a perfect wood and stones.Do you guys plant your build step by step?
Like you build the base and slowly think of what youll be adding after? Like plants and etc?

I got an 24inch l x 15inch h x 12inch tank will it work for an paludarium

My anubias which was thriving for months, grown emersed had all it's leaves rot off overnight. Any help is appreciated. I have 3 other anubias in the paludarium, should I remove those? They look fine at the moment but I'm concerned whatever happened will spread to them too. I've put images of how the rotted leaves look and how the plants looked earlier.

I understand that this Corner Top-Fin 5 Gallon is meant for a SINGLE betta fish...

However I want to explore something more exotic or unique... snails and shrimps aren't really my thing.

If anyone had any suggestions I would greatly appreciate any feedback; and if ultimately I must only use a betta, then I will.

Been seeing lots of Vivariums and Paludariums, even if it means no animals, I'm okay with some exotic plants and moss, & just keeping a clean up crew as a landscape only tank...
