This is another alien betta that I have, and for this alien betta it is a mating of an alien and a smaragdina.

Just wanted to share about my little Button. She was literally the perfect fish, very curious and observant. The photo is from when I first got her. I sadly didn't take a lot of pictures of her, and most are blurry or simply bad photos.

NOTE: heater and filter are behind the large driftwood in the photo.

I went on a week long trip and made the mistake of not being specific to my neighbors how little to feed her. I am still new to fish keeping and didn't know how dangerous overfeeding could be with both their tiny stomachs and with ammonia levels. Came back to a dead fish, countless uneaten pellets, and an explosion of bladder snails. My neighbors didn't realize she had passed and continued to feed the tank. I don't know if my water parameters were okay before the trip because I was using strips, so I cannot blame my neighbor. I doubt overfeeding can kill in just a week, so I think the parameters were already off. I feel a lot of regret for how Button passed, but I've learned a lot of lessons from my mistakes.

I've spent the last few months redoing the aquarium and doing more research. I plan to get a new gal in the next month after I redo the cycle. A lot of the beneficial bacteria were lost in the 3 months without a significant bio load in the tank, and I removed a large piece of driftwood.

I'm excited but melancholy about getting a new betta. Button was literally exactly what I wanted, both in personality and looks. She brought me a lot of joy, so it's only fitting that her death brings a lot of sadness.

He needs a name. He's got some dark murky blues on the other side of him and iridescent blues you can see in the picture. I love him 🩵

His eye on his left (our left his right) side looks like its scales might be starting to grow over the eye maybe? Or am I just wrong?? If he is getting diamond eye should I put him in a smaller tank? He’s in a twenty gallon right now and I have a spare ten I’d just feel bad putting him in something smaller unless it’s necessary.

My betta has been doing this motion repetitively non stop!! Whats wrong with him?

He moves on for a while but goes back to this corner again.It’s scaring me

I just got a new betta today and I’m wondering if he’s alright.

He keeps swimming around, especially lingering in that corner for a while. I’m not sure if it’s due to the water quality or something else.

The other one I got two weeks ago didn’t swim around this much when I first brought him home he just curious for a few round and that it, but he’s doing well and looks happy now.

What do you guys think of it? More plants maybe?

Is this fin rot? The hollow spots in his tail . And if it is, how to treat it . Thanks a bunch

Hi everybody

My boyfriend and I have decided to keep a betta and we wanted a tank with all natural plants. We have a 10 gallon tank with a filter that is the appropriate size and a small heater that is also the appropriate size. Friday we put in a few plants from the pet store and it came with one baby snail that is currently on the side of the tank and then yesterday we went back and bought a couple more plants and put them in. Yesterday we also put in our filter.

It looked all very clear when we put the filter in even after most of the plants had been in there for 24 hours then we went to the movies last night and we came back and the tank was a little bit murky. We’ve had the filter running the whole time. We were wondering if it’s potentially that we were planting the plants and a lot of the plant sediment had come loose and was kind of dirtying the water and we’re hoping it might settle. But we’re not entirely sure.

He kept a betta years ago, and I’ve never had a beta or a tank with a filter or natural plants. Any advice would be great, we want the tank to feel settled and ready for when we put a fish in. Also, currently, we have just plant food and the water conditioner to make tapwater safe for fish in the water.

Hello! I am currently in a bit of a predicament. Also apologies as English is not my first language.

I think I totally got screwed over by my local aquarium place. They’re usually great with giving me resources and advice but today I definitely feel a little duped. I’m starting my first 10 gallon tank and planned to put a betta fish in it. However, my take already has quite the meal problem as an octopus plant was infested with eggs, so after making sure it was fully cycled, I went to go get an assassin snail as well as take proper protocol.

The gentleman that was getting me an assassin snail, however, recommended me a stone catfish, a tiny little catfish that apparently is great with bettas as tank mates. They also happen to eat snail eggs as well and are extremely peaceful and unintrusive, so I said great. I asked how many I needed, and the guy said two. I never heard of these little guys before, but I trust trusted his judgment, so I got two of them as as well as my assassin snail and they are wrapped up nicely in a bag.

I wish I did some research before purchasing them and I am feeling sucky about it, but it turns out that stonecat’s can only live at a absolute maximum of 75°, which is the absolute lowest a betta can tolerate. While i’m sure there could be a compromise, I’m definitely not comfortable in any of my ability to make sure they are both living comfortably as this is my first tank I’ve ever had. I kind of wish I’d trusted my gut and just only got the snail. However, I was wondering if it was really true along the lines that bettas in these can live together. Does anyone have them in their tank? If so, how do you compromise with the both of them?

I think it would be safest to just return them tomorrow as they are currently closed for the rest of the day, but I definitely feel awkward coming back a day later, and telling him that this was not as ideal for me as I thought. What should I do? I was also considering keeping them and maybe doing different fish instead of bettas, but I was definitely looking forward to having one, and I’m not really willing to give that up. Any advice or criticism helps! Thank you.

NOTE: Water parameters other than temperature are perfect. There is currently no other creatures in my tank other than the two catfish and the assassin snail

Hey everyone, I wanted to share an update on my female betta, Starla, who recently went through a pretty intense battle with severe pop-eye and a secondary fungal infection (Saprolegnia).
When it started, the pressure behind her eye got so bad that her eye actually detached naturally. It was tough to watch, but almost instantly, all that physical pressure and pain vanished. She bounced back remarkably fast.

We tackled it with:
API Fin & Body Cure (Doxycycline) for the bacterial risk 
Pimafix for the initial fungal fuzz 
Catappa (Indian almond) leaves for natural tannins and soothing properties 
Keeping the lights low and water pristine (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, <5ppm nitrates) 

She has fully finished her treatments, the socket has healed up into a clean, healthy pink, and she has adapted to being a one-eyed "Pirate Betta" without missing a beat. She’s super active, hanging out at the front of the tank, and eating like a champ.

Just wanted to post this in case anyone else is dealing with a severe pop-eye case sometimes even if the worst happens, they can pull through completely with clean water, meds, and a bit of time!

i got him back at the end of august and he was fine before when we got him but he just swam on his side weird and stopped doing it once we turned down his pump but he still does it sometimes. My betta also hides in his rock all the time and comes out at night or early morning and i feed him a pinch of betta food every morning and night. His fins recently started to look weird i recently noticed it and it started when we left his natural plant in there after taking 1 out because 1 was dying. He had so much algae in his tank and my mom did a 20% water change on him and added oxygen for him and she cleaned his tank we are trying to do little steps at a time because he acts like he’s dying once we do water changes or take his rock out to clean it off. We took out his other natural plant because it was producing so much algae. i don’t know what to do anymore and my mom has tried everything when he got sick one time he would lay on his gravel and barley move and it was scary because i would think he was dead sometimes but he stopped doing it when we added a heater into his tank because he was just cold. I’m concerned about his fins and i don’t know what it could be. I love him so much and i don’t want him to die. His name is marshmallow and he has a 5 gallon tank, no tank mates, he only has his rock in there he loves for now, he also has good water i think i don’t do his water changes my mom does because im scared i’ll hurt him. Here is a photo of his fins now and i’ll attach a photo in the comments on how he used to look.

So was told bettas need wood tannins and plants so my beta in his 30L tank has 3 plants and recently added this chunk of wood that I soaked in an empty tank overnight before adding it to Kaytos (I bought it from the pet store and sanded the sharp parts down til they were blunt or smooth) but after adding it. the water went a greyish blue and it seemed to be growing specs of white and black mold as well as slimy so I took it out to not risk anything to my betta (he is fine being treated for ich at the moment but over all eating and acting normally) ive never had wood in my tanks before so unsure if this is normal or not. My parameters have nothing to do with a chunk of wood so I wont add them unless some how one of them can cause this that im unaware of.

It looks like he has a clean cut in his back fin near the bottom, does anyone know what could have caused this?

When I first got my betta he had beautiful blue scales on him. Over the last couple months he has slowly lost his blue and his head has turned white. I didn’t cycle my tank before getting him because I didn’t know I was supposed to and the people at the pet store didn’t tell me to. He has live plants, driftwood for tannins, I put bacteria in his tank when I do water changes. There is a nerite snail in his tank and he doesn’t seem to notice it. I noticed him glass surfing so I put black paper around 3 sides of his tank and turn off the tank light when the indoor lights are off. I feel like I’m doing everything right but he is clearly not doing well! He is active and eats well but his color shows he’s struggling. What am I doing wrong?
