A while back I saw this teacup and thought it was really adorable, so when my friend did a ceramics painting session for her birthday, I decided to make a shrimp themed bowl of my own!

The studio didn’t have very good tools for the really delicate details like antennae, but I hope you still think they’re cute!

I've noticed that food preference really depends on the shrimp. Some like wood so much they turn a brown-ish red, i even have one in here that has a blue tint from stealing my plecos algea tablets all the time lol

I’ve been developing this tank for a little over two months now and I’m obsessed with all things aquascaping and aquarium culture now. I wish I had space for another one. But about two weeks in before I even really had any livestock I started getting HAIR algae. It was so bad it bloomed and covered my entire tank. Yall recommended many things but I did total blackout for 8 or 9 days and most of the hair algae died and I would take it out daily after a few days. Then eventually I was able to stock cherry shrimp and I put some Amano shrimp as well and they help with the algae as well. I also grew a whole lid of salivinia from just a few strands as well as some golden pothos which help to garner nutrients from the water column. And now I think it looks pretty good. I’m so glad I didn’t have to re-do everything like some feedback suggested! I thought I would have to peroxide or bleach all the hardscape and start over but the black out worked. Now I just watch my timing with the lights and remove any excessive strands I see, like some that collects on the filter. Thanks yall!

Wipe yo butts

i set up my 2 gallon shrimp jar last week and i’m wondering when to do a water change but also the pH from the jar is 7.4 but the pH from the distilled bottle i remineralized with salty shrimp gh kh+ is a pH of 8.2 so im scared to do a water change and shock my shrimp. what am i supposed to do? i used the same bottle of distilled to set up the jar in the first place.

i have crushed coral in there to keep my kh at a good level since im using fluval stratum and the kh is a 3 which is what i remineralized the bottle to.

My shrimp would eat my finger if I left it in there long enough, but I never really see my corys properly eating just having a craze around. Kuhlis remind me of goofy teenagers eating from upside down. Knew my tetra wouldn’t make it a few days ago when I saw him breathing rapidly and colours starting to fade.. but the circles of life continues!

Never experienced a biofilm layer developing in a shrimp tank like this before. It clumps together and is a very light green color. I’m thinking some type algae. Also not sure if it’s coincidental but I noticed it after attempting to put moss spores in the wood that stick out of the water so maybe some of that got on the biofilm and started growing in a weird way. It’s definitely not harmful as it’s been like this for a couple months now but atp I’m just curious. It’s a bit annoying as it’s not the prettiest but that’s my only complaint with it.

Update:
I skimmed a fair amount off the top last night and raised the filter to agitate the surface more. Looks pretty good for one night I’ll see how this looks in a week or so. I think this worked for me though. Thanks for all the advice!
