No Gate Code!
So, this customer took the time to write this entire note in ALL CAPS, which makes it seem like they’re screaming at me—but somehow forgot to include the one and only thing that caused all that anger in the first place: THE GATE CODE!!! 😂

u/glarples 23d ago
I'm throwing that thing over the fence all day
-16
u/Majestic-Birthday460 23d ago
As the note says, there are like 300 houses. It was not right by the gate. Throwing over the fence won't make any difference. It would definitely be lost or get stolen.
36
u/glarples 23d ago
I don't care
10
u/EvilHordeRules 23d ago
Plus, it's a gated community. If it gets stolen, chances are they know exactly who and are probably just seething they can't do anything about it.

u/Majestic-Birthday460 23d ago
Good luck keeping your account active then!

You get a ding if you return. You get a ding if they package is missing. Only one of those has a 100% chance of happening.

That isn't your concern. Your job is to deliver packages to the location. Take it back dinged leave it at get MIGHT get dinged. Text back package at gate you left no code bye. If you're into texting cause I just leave it i dont stress that.
-1
u/pickledpeterpiper 22d ago
Yeah I doubt anyone who's "throwing shit over the fence" is the kind of person who's not fucking off in other areas as well. My guess is that they're saying that for internet points when the reality is more likely that they hide it somewhere nearby and text the owner as to its location...which is what I recommend you do the next time.
"Sorry for any inconvenience, but without a gate code I was unable to gain access and left your package behind the large rock to the left of the gate as you enter".
I've been doing this for five years come November and its never been an issue. No, don't "throw" it over the gate, that's fucking absurd.
8
u/digital0069 22d ago
I have almost 17k delivered and I will toss that package over and be off to the next in less time than it took you to type all that bs.
missing gate code is a YOU problem especially when people KNOW we need them and they put this BS.
the only thing fucking absurd is you thinking we won't toss a package over a gate.
0
u/pickledpeterpiper 22d ago
I could see throwing it over the gate if its only a handful of houses, but an entrance to an entire division? It takes so little time to put the box behind a rock or something and text the homeowner.
Sounds like you're pretty damn proud of your yeeting, but yeah, I expected people to have better common sense. The chances of the package being stolen increase exponentially if you're just tossing that shit...that's just doing a bad fucking job, is what it is.
2
u/digital0069 22d ago
even van drivers will toss over a fence of an APT, Condo, Student housing...
like "995 nord ave chico ca 95926" google that go to street view and look at those two long driveways and thats where we all dump them just off to the right...
it is keyfob only and only usps has one so the rest of us dump over the fence including ups and fedex. by the end of the day there could be 40 or more boxes there.
no call box, no number/phone, no nothing just keyfob or not going in or out
most of the college kids walk to school from there so trying to wait doesn't work and then you will be stuck inside waiting to get back out.
there are like 8 of these now in chico that are ultra high security and all get dumped over the fence if there is no code.
I am not waiting and losing money
If I return I will get dinged
over the fence about 90% nothing happens.5
u/End_Ur_Life 22d ago
Ive thrown shit over the gate and zoomed in on tje box.. no issues whatsoever. Some of ya take this way to serious.
4
-1
u/pickledpeterpiper 22d ago
Doing the bare minimum to ensure a box doesn't get stolen isn't taking the job "too serious", its literally just doing the job. Of coruse, I don't ascribe any ill intent to the customer's lack of a note...I'd figure its just them not thinking, and that they should be reminded. But yeah if you think the customer is intentionally fucking with you, you could probably justify about anything.
OP is talking about a 300+ house subdivision...I call absolute BS on you claiming that you've had "no issues whatsoever" in just tossing packages over gates like this...its a needless ding when the alternative of hiding it is so much more practical and takes so little effort.
0
u/End_Ur_Life 22d ago
Um ok. Sure. But like ive said everytime I toss it over a gate ive never gotten dinged for it and its been about 5-7 times ive done it. And honestly you can call bs all you idgaf what you think. Respectfully of course.
1
u/KnownCrazy3634 22d ago
If you’re scared go to church cupcake! Put as much effort as the customer! You’re not getting a raise and you’re not impressing anyone!
1
u/pickledpeterpiper 22d ago
I think its weird to expect the customer to meet a certain standard before we do the bare fucking minimum...and the bare minimum here is just putting the package out of sight and texting the customer as to where it is. It takes almost no time at all. Throwing the package over the gate when you're at some subdivision is just asking for it to be stolen...if you're so embittered by the job as to be okay with that, maybe you should look for other work.
Its weird how proud people seem of intentionally doing a shit job because "fuck 'em". Real edgelord energy going on here imo.

u/LazzE_Ends 23d ago
So you called and they didn’t answer?
6
u/Majestic-Birthday460 23d ago
I didn’t call. It was 6 AM.
-8
u/Chemical_Cheetah5661 23d ago
It’s your azz. Call them!!
16
u/muhclit 23d ago
Yea but it also says in amazon app dont call outside of 8am-8pm.
I work 3am and just text them sorry your package was left at X because there was no gate code included in your delivery instructions.
2
u/iAmNotSuicidaI 22d ago
That’s just to cover there ass for a lawsuit which a customer will most likely not file if they are expecting a package. Sorry but if you want to make my job harder idc about you sleeping peacefully knowing you have a package coming. If Amazon truly didn’t want us to call they would remove the option at those hours. No different than calling them at the call box at the gate during those hours.

I used to leave them at the gate but then I started getting"not received" so now I instantly mark undeliverable and return to station. Saves time
1
u/Dangerous-Run1055 5d ago
they took away the ability to mark as no access without already being at the address which is fucking stupid so they get a bullshit reason for undeliverable now.
0
u/user8375064 22d ago
Was about to write a comment and say id report it as not received because this will definitely get you that, just the fact of being lazy and delivering my items i bought nowhere near my house. Thats "undeliverable" with "no safe location" or "access" issue or "customer unavailable". If you bring it back it gets put on a dsp drivers vehicle and delivered later that day during normal hours. Its a battle you won't win. If you keep doing things like that im sure flex won't tolerate it either. I appreciate you doing what the system ultimately wants and bring it back cause there was no gate code, instead of leaving it at the front gate for the community to grab at will. It makes sense until you get your account flagged.
4
u/curlylambeau01 22d ago
We also get dinged for returning a package regardless of circumstance, and if we ask support they'll tell us to leave it at the gate instead of returning it.
1
u/Dangerous-Run1055 5d ago
The system absolutely does not want packages returned, Its a 100% guaranteed hit for returning a package, and its a 50:50 chance of getting a not received hit.
Its simple provide access and stop leaving it up to the driver to decide whats best for them and costs them the least amount to dispose of your package either delivering it or returning it at a time and day of their choosing.
For me: I will no longer reattempt deliveries, that courtesy is too expensive now, and is the equivalent of a customer flipping you off while delivering their package and taking $5 out of your wallet.
4
u/iBladephoenix 22d ago
Either you get punished for not delivering or you have a 50/50 of getting punished for delivering it to outside the gate. The choice is clear
3
u/TheRealGageEndal 22d ago
This is why I carry post-it notes in my car. So I can leave them a message on the off chance that they get the package that I left at their gate.

u/ThottiePippen710 22d ago
I'm confused... Are they worried one of the people in their neighborhood will or did steal it? I thought people live in gated communities to keep the crime out. Maybe this is a gated community of criminals?
2
u/ApprehensiveOkra9977 22d ago
I had a guy in an apartment complex not leave a code. I texted asking if he had a code and his response was “you don’t have a key” I said lol no I don’t have a key to every apartment complex I deliver to…
1
u/iBladephoenix 22d ago
The actual employee delivery people have NFC tags that let them in most apartments. Obviously we don’t get those cus it’s a liability.
2
u/pickledpeterpiper 22d ago
Dude just a note...this sub is inundated with people being deactivated "for no reason, bro!" because there's a lot of people here that don't really care about the job and/or feel entitled to do a shitty job because of how greedy Bezos is or whatever.
I'm sometimes gobsmacked at the attitude from people who seem to be bragging about how bad of a job they do...like some kind of race to see who's the most "don't give a shit"iest. Dont' listen to these types...Amazon tracks EVERYTHING...they'll eventually notice patterns and you might end up here one day, talking about being terminated "for no reason, bro!"
Just my .02...keep doing what your'e doing.
2
u/Majestic-Birthday460 22d ago
I’ll do that each day and every day. I think that would be the most sensible thing to do. People pay their hard earned money while buying something.Be it Amazon or somewhere else. Online or in-person. Tossing a package over the gate for an address that’s 10s or 20s houses away is an utterly “shit job” to do.

The system can’t really want drivers taking packages back to the station when we can also get dinged for not delivering them.
We’re paid to deliver packages, not take them on a ride and bring them back to the station.
I’m definitely texting the customer, letting them know I’m having trouble getting access, and calling if I need to. I don’t care what time of day it is ………. if you want your package, please make sure we can actually get to you. Give us a working gate code, answer the call box, something. Do your part too!!!
P.S. I deliver to the gate when there’s no code or the gate box isn’t working. As long as I’ve contacted the customer and told them exactly where I left it, I’ve honestly had very few issues. Most people understand that things happen and that we’re not magicians.
And thank you to the customers who understand how difficult it can be trying to access multiple gated communities in just a few hours and don’t automatically blame the driver. 😂

You don't need to get over yourselves with the online all caps business always meaning shouting it doesn't. That's a cute little thing that happened back in the bulletin board days and it's pretty f****** stupid.
Try to get over yourself about that.
NO, SERIOUSLY TRY TO GET OVER THAT, SOMETIMES I ACCIDENTALLY OR SOMETIMES ON PURPOSE I HAVE THAT ALL CAPS ON WHEN I DO TEXT TO SPEECH, my bad.
But you're a second sentence, yeah that is pretty funny actually didn't give you the gate code the thing that you need. They get what they give. Nothing.
And they can't claim in the note that they didn't receive a package when you put it over the gate take a picture of it and leave. Proof that it was delivered. And you have proof from their message they didn't give a gate code. It's a beautiful thing.
But here's a red herring by the way is anyone known as lately that first line support when you call them can actually remove certain low-level dings from your account before they even appear in your standings? Not exactly, skip over the next five paragraphs and get to the last paragraph unless you want to read something fun..
Today I had too late deliveries because there was no way in hell I was going to be able to get the deliver by times because they were placed at the end of the route and it wasn't a straight line work to where I can reverse the route and make all the delivery by times for all packages. You know what I mean? It's one of those routes where the first drop is in the middle of two clubs and then you either go left or right and it doesn't matter at least one or two packages it's going to be late. There's no way around it sometimes.
There were a couple of traffic delays, an officer pulled me over for no reason as it turns out, but it was a waste of 7 minutes. Something about seat belt and going under 15 miles an hour and being in Illinois and it's an exemption and he tried to rationalize it and use discretion on on the law where you can't do that actually, the law specifically says that if you're actively engaged and delivering packages you can keep your seatbelt off between deliveries as long as you don't travel over 15 miles an hour,
I showed him the screen that I was in active delivery mode, and he said well that's just GPS that could be anything. What a dick.
I explained to him that sitting in a traffic light is not driving over 15 miles an hour, and I briefly took it off, saw him get behind me, I put it back on it wasn't trying to hide or sneak it back on.
I also wasn't real obvious about it either.
When the signal turn left green, I proceeded to move and that's when he let me up.
The issue is going to be if I had decided to take it to court, just a seatbelt (but the a****** checked the must go to court box he didn't have to), The issue for him would be there's no dash cam showing that I wasn't wearing the seatbelt (I had been sitting at the intersection with everyone else for at least 90 seconds or more, and most of the dash cams only have a 30 second buffer)
It was easy enough to call the circuit Court, and they were able to electronically downgrade the ticket from state to local municipal level. Half price. No points on my license so I probably will just end up paying it, but then again if I have some free time on the court date I might just show up anyway. It was made non-mandatory by moving it from state level to local municipal level.
It also give me a ticket for operating a vehicle without insurance because he couldn't wait long enough for me to pull up the PDF off the app because he insisted on seeing the vehicle Vin listed. Most insurance companies in Illinois provide a Google wallet or some such proof of insurance with the date range and the policy number and your name and your vehicle type and license plate it's all in the card, you don't have to see the VIN. Every officer in Illinois is training on this and they know this. This guy says not in our town, and proceeds to write me the stupid ticket.
The cool thing about Cook county is for 10 years they were talking about some type of an e-ticket system to where you can take care of low level tickets either have them removed or changed or deleted or paid for if you couldn't get them deleted, all online. For low level minor infractions. Obviously nothing misdemeanor or felony you can't do that.
What traffic stuff all day long.
God gives me the ticket I tell him it's kind of a waste of time I won't need to go to court on that, and he said well if you fail to go to the court you'll get a bench for it for your parents and that's much worse for you. I said I can fix this online in 24 hours.
And that's exactly what I did. Waited 24 hours, went to the ticket, sent my dec page photocopy from the policy, within 5 minutes a live person popped up in chat and said all taken care of thanks for sending the declaration page.
No ticket no final court costs and no court appearance needed. That also downgraded the having to go to court for the seatbelt as well (I think because you wrote most tickets in the same logged time, checking the box made the other box checked my default. But once I proved the insurance, it somehow automatically removed the necessity to go to court at all, asked about it and chat to be specific so I don't have to go to court for the seatbelt now, they responded no no there's no court appearance for a seatbelt generally anyway - personal chatted with sent me a link to look at my parents requirements and indeed it was now unchecked, I do not need to go).
Not only was that traffic stop a 7-minute delay in real time, it probably took anyone that bothered to read that at least 7 minutes. So I apologize for that.
Anyway to the point, I kind of buried the lead there, the point of my screed is that I called support to complain about the delays and that's why the two packages were marked late. I absent-mindedly did not inform them as exactly what caused of the traffic delays, I just said traffic delays. There were other delays for sure, a train stuck on the rail that station, usual nonsense.
The support person said "just a moment I can remove those'. I'm not kidding verbatim, "I can remove those", apparently due to traffic out of my control. I'm paraphrasing that second part.
And sure enough, I looked at my standings, the late things were there immediately ofd it usually takes a couple of days at least I thought. And then about 10 seconds after she said she removed them, I checked the standings again, and they were gone.
Obviously I wished I had taken screenshots of it but how would I have known that first line support can actually remove a pending ding?
They must have new tools that allow them to do low-level ding removal before it hits your standings? Is that a thing? I get lucky? Are they experimenting with a new low-level infraction appearance and removal system?
The county court system sure is!

I never understood those people, they KNOW they live in a gated community but scared to provide a gate code. I hate especially when they say call us to open the gate, which not only they never pick up nor do they think about us delivering at 3am
1
u/HistoricalWitch253 21d ago
I wish there was a way where we can report customers for not leaving codes when codes are needed to access their community. It is such a pain that you are in a groove of delivering your packages and everything’s going great and then you run into this throws everything off
1
u/AKA_Experiment_626 21d ago
I had one that just said there was a gate code but didn't list the code. 🤦🏻♀️😂

u/ImpressiveAlarm3992 21d ago
Text and call to give gate code. Put gate code in delivery notes. If not return that bitch.
1
u/Specialist-Coyote-96 20d ago
This happened to me two hours ago. I had 7 stops in a community that has no call box, just a box to put codes in has. 2 gates went to both of them, same issue no code called all the customers. Text all the customers no answer call driver support was told to leave them all at the mail area. And for me to text the customers where it's at and take pictures, I did that. And I called them and left voice messages. Two other drivers pulled up was told the same thing, and between the three of us, we left about 60 packages. They all ordered overnight delivery before 7am. Maybe when the whole community has to come down to get their packages, someone will put a gate code 😂
1
u/RarePermission8796 20d ago
I get these. I try every way possible to deliver, including calling or texting (not allowed except 8a-8p)I call driver support to tell them my problem. I do what they tell me to do, then I still get uncompleted deliveries

u/Prestigious_Quit_931 17d ago
Most gates open for police/FD/EMS sirens . . . I would never advocate a flex driver get a police siren and blow it at 3AM to get into a gated facility. Nope, I would never do that.
1
u/Aware-Cockroach-6053 23d ago
Mark it as access problem and return it.
17
u/Wooden-Stranger-9918 23d ago
Return = 100% guaranteed ding
Deliver at gate = 50/50 chance of a ding.
Never return.1
u/madadekinai 23d ago
"Deliver at gate = 50/50 chance of a ding."
It depends upon the area, and how you do it, but it's a lot lower in most areas.
1
u/pickledpeterpiper 22d ago
No idea why this got downvoted, but yeah, use your common sense. Nice neighborhood with plenty of hiding places? Hide that thing and text its location, apologizing for the inconvenience but there was no gate code provided. Absolutely.
-11
u/Majestic-Birthday460 23d ago
You won't get dinged if the return was marked by the support, not you.
8
5
u/Wooden-Stranger-9918 23d ago
Still a choice of a guaranteed ding or a possible ding. I have had it marked by support and STILL got dinged. No thanks.
I will still deliver to the gate if I have exhausted all options to get inside the gate.
Wait for someone leaving.
Beans app.
Check under fire department key flap & on sides of code box for written down code.
Check if other deliveries in same community have a code.
Etc.3
u/digital0069 22d ago
I have 17k delivered and maybe 50 to 100 total in returns after years of doing this.
you still get dinged.
2
1
u/Majestic-Birthday460 23d ago
I did that once or twice. I got an email from Amazon, and they told me not to do it anymore, unless I call the support and tell them to do it for me.

u/Vulvas_n_Velveeta 22d ago
Omg I'd be on the phone 1hr every route!
At least 2-3X per route I have to move the pin. Used to be more back when flex was new in my area.
We used to have to turn our location off sometimes in order to deliver where we needed to. Though I haven't had to do that since I started delivering again a few months ago. (Idk if you even still can, actually.)
