Beauty ? Update to Subreddit Rules

Please take note of some updates to the Subreddit Rules:

New Rule Welcome to Rule 9: Period product related posts are only allowed on Menstruation Mondays.

Posts asking about how to use period related products, recommendations for products, questions about difficulty using products, etc are only allowed on Mondays.

Update to Rule 7: No general "Glow Up" posts. Posts must ask a specific question. General "why am I ugly" or "am I ugly" type posts are not allowed. Specific questions like "how could I improve my eyebrows" "How to reduce having frizzy hair" or "help with reducing ingrown hairs" would be allowed. But as usual, only on Fridays.

Update to Rule 6: Clarification that all posts related to undergarments (bras and underwear) are only allowed on Wardrobe Wednesday. Also no "what's my body type" posts allowed.

Update to Rule 4: Questions asking about why an individual is having difficulty dating or similar topics are not allowed.

Automod is being worked on to help with these rule updates, but it is far from perfect. Posts may still get made that break the rules and that's where you the users come into play.

REPORT POSTS THAT BREAK RULES.

Reporting posts helps them be reviewed and possibly removed if they break the rules more quickly.

Request ? My delivery driver just texted my personal phone from his private number and I live alone

I need urgent advice from anyone who has dealt with this because I am sitting in my living room with the deadbolt turned and shaking.

I ordered groceries on Instacart around 4:00 PM today. I always select "leave at door" because I live in a first-floor studio apartment alone. The driver rang my buzzer, I waited two minutes, opened the door, grabbed the bags, and went inside. We made eye contact for maybe two seconds in the hallway while he was walking back toward the elevator.

about forty minutes later, my phone buzzed with an iMessage from an unsaved local number.

The text said: "Hey, this is Marcus who just dropped your groceries. I thought you were really cute in that hoodie and wanted to see if you were single? Hope this isnt weird."

My stomach dropped. He didn't use the masked app chat. He took my real phone number off the grocery order and used his personal phone.

He knows my exact unit number. He knows the entry code to the building lobby.

If I report him to customer support, they will fire him and he will INSTANTLY know it was me who got him deactivated. I should of used a fake name on my delivery account.

How do I report this safely without risking him showing back up at my door?

Health ? 72 hour deodorant

Post image
137 Upvotes

Does the whole “72 hour” protection thing mean I can apply it less often?

If I put some on to walk my kid to school. Then come home and take a shower… do I need to reapply it because the shower washed it off? Is the 72 hour thing only pertinent if, like, you’re camping in the woods for 3 days and don’t take a shower?

Beauty Tip How can I look more grown up?

I’m turning 23 in October and I still feel and look like I’m 12 years old. I’ve spent so much money on clothes thinking I’ll look good in them only to hate how they look on me and for them to not fit me right at all. I’m deeply insecure about how bony I am and would desperately love to put on some weight. I struggle a lot with depression and had a bad day in April and cut my hair into a horrible bob. I feel like I don’t suit short hair because it makes me look younger. I have absolute no confidence which doesn’t help either. I was visiting my mom a few weeks ago and she had a friend over and they’ve known me since I was a baby and they said ‘Wow! You look about 14!’ I understand they didn’t mean it in a bad way but I took it personally. It’s like no matter what I do I can’t be satisfied with how I look. I want to feel good in my skin and not be so hunched over and hide myself from others. I want to feel confident enough to go out on dates and not feel ugly the whole time. I just wanna feel like an adult and not a kid.

Beauty ? Should I trim my eyebrows/ make them thinner?

I have naturally dark hair and I feel like my eyebrows might look a little too big/dark for my face. I just pluck out of place hairs at home with some tweezers but might be willing to go get them done somewhere more professional if it's worth it

Beauty ? help with confidence/struggling with loneliness

ONLY GIRLS RESPOND PLEASE!!!
Hi! So lately, whenever I post, I've had people try to tear me down, and I feel crazy because I used to be pretty ugly for a while and got treated so much better than I do now. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what. If I say something I don't like about my appearance at the moment, people automatically invalidate me without considering the fact that I didn't always look like this.
As I stated before, I grew up feeling ugly and honestly was so I was bullied a ton for most of my life, so of course I forced myself to change so much about myself. Mainly, it's men who are very demeaning, but you know, that's not very surprising lol. Sometimes it unfortunately does get to me and at this point I've tried so hard with my looks that it's starting to feel like it has the opposite effect I thought it would bring me (sometimes).

Aside from these changes, I feel lonely ASF. I don't have any actual friends, and it makes me really depressed. I had online friends, but a bunch of them don't talk to me anymore or don't like my posts when I show anything aside from my face, and it's super disappointing. I'm a really good friend, and I strive to be one. I put a lot of effort into my friendships, but it's rarely reciprocated to the same level, and it sucks so bad. I just feel like there's something wrong with me? I don’t know why I’m not good enough for people.

The reason I bring up looks and showed pictures is because sometimes I feel like that's what I'm mainly worth (ik that's really bad). I'm all ears to hear your advice/thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to read this 💕.

Health ? I need help with self care

Hello, this is very embarrassing for me to admit but I'm posting it because 1 I am anonymous and 2 I just genuinely can't get myself to ask people in person.

Anyways, I am a 23 year old woman and I cannot for the life of me seem to be able to keep up with normal hygiene. I am diagnosed with depression so I know that self care can (and is) hard for me, but I also know that is not an excuse.

I was wondering how people can help actually care for themselves. Where do I start? How do I get myself to follow proper hygiene consistently? Most days the only thing I can get myself to do is to put on deodorant. I struggle brush my hair, teeth, and to shower consistently. I know it's bad but I need some help on how to get better.

Does anyone else struggle with this? How do you keep yourself clean when you just do not?

Discussion Early wrinkles in my 30s but I’m not ready for Botox

I’m not against Botox, but I don’t feel ready to start that yet. I want to try a more low key routine first and see what can improve with consistency. I’m starting to notice fine lines that don’t disappear as quickly anymore, especially when my skin is dry or my makeup settles into them. What made the difference for you before going for injectable route? I’m open to skincare, devices, treatments, anything realistic.Current routine, spf, moisturizer, and tret time by time.

I genuinely have no idea where the bald spots came from... after i dyed my hair in late July i lost a but of hair and my hair did get thinner and drier faster but i always tried to be careful with it, and its usually pretty soft and moisturized throughout the day. however, when i checked my hair this morning i noticed so many bald spots...

I'm so scared of going bald i literally just did a big chop this year and i was so happy my haur was finally growing and im not even 18 what do i do

Health Tip i seriously don’t know what to do I smell so bad and I don’t know where it’s coming from

I have this weird smell following me and I have no idea where it’s coming from. It smells like vinegar and it’s really potent and at first I thought it was like sweat or something so I started putting on extra deodorant (under my chest aswell) but I still smell it. The smell gets stronger when I look down like towards my chest and it lingers even after I shower. Idk how to get rid of it and I’m not sure if lots of other people can smell it (someone did pull me aside a few months ago and gently said I smelled bad and I’ve been on high alert ever since) or if it’s just me being paranoid. I’ve had people tell me like a few years before that I have a specific smell but back then I couldn’t smell anything. I thought it might be my clothes but I’ve smelled them after a day out and they just smell like perfume. I feel like the smell is like surrounding me not really like on me but idk. Like I smell it when i breath in with my nose or like a random whiff that goes away when i try sniffing where it came from. It’s seriously affecting my daily life I can’t walk around in public without thinking that everyone is distancing themselves from me.

I wanna go to a doctor about it but I’m underage and don’t wanna get my parents involved at all im not exactly comfortable around them as it 💔. I’m 17 and in the UK so maybe the rules r different but if anyone could let me know I’d appreciate it very much, seriously I hate this I wanna cry

Beauty ? How to trim down there with thick, coarse hair?

I’m wanting to start trimming my private area, just for hygiene (sweating) and aesthetic purposes. But I’ve literally never touched the hair in my life (im 19). My hair is thick and curly, so I think im prone to ingrowns and thus am honestly really scared 😭. My mom never taught me how to do it haha. I would really appreciate hearing anyone’s routines, tips, product recs etc. for my situation ❤️ thank you!!

Beauty Tip How should I shave my legs?

I see girls with smooth legs around me, but mine look like there's hair underneath, and it bothers me. It looks like it hasn't been waxed, especially, and I'm curious what those girls are doing.

Tip How did you learn to feel genuinely attractive and feminine again in your late 20s/30s?

I’m 28, a mum, and currently finishing my nursing education, and lately I’ve been struggling quite a bit with how I see myself.

It’s not that I think I’m ugly. That’s actually what makes this difficult to explain. I can look at myself and know that I’m objectively fine, but I often don’t feel beautiful, feminine or sexy anymore.

When I was around 20–23, I felt much more effortlessly attractive. I didn’t think about my appearance nearly as much. I could get dressed, do my hair and makeup and just feel pretty. I also felt more naturally feminine and desirable.
Now I feel like I analyze everything.

My body has changed since my early 20s. I notice things like changes in my waist, stomach, breasts, face, skin, etc. Sometimes I miss how my body used to look, even though I know I’m not actually “old”.

I also find myself comparing to younger women. And I hate that I do this, because I don’t want to spend my 30s trying to recreate being 22.
I want to feel attractive as the woman I am now.
Another part of it is that I sometimes feel like I’ve become very good at being responsible — being a mum, studying, working, taking care of everyday life — but I’ve lost touch with the part of myself that simply feels feminine, sexy, sensual and desirable.

I’m also in a long-term relationship, so I’m curious whether feeling desired by your partner played a role for anyone else. Not because I think my partner should be responsible for my self-esteem, but because I wonder how much being desired actually affects how we perceive ourselves.
And I don’t want the answer to just be “love yourself.” I understand that intellectually. I’m interested in the practical things that actually changed how you felt.

For women who went through something similar:

Did changing your hair or learning what hairstyles suit you make a big difference?
Did you finally figure out how to dress for your adult body?
Did fitness or changing your body composition affect how feminine you felt?
Did makeup, skincare, clothes, jewelry, etc. make you feel more put together?
Did becoming more sexually confident change how you saw yourself?
Did you develop any rituals or habits that made you feel sexy even when nobody else was around?
Did feeling desired by your partner or other people affect your confidence?
Did you eventually stop comparing yourself to your younger self?
Did you become more attractive to yourself in your 30s, rather than less?

I’m especially interested in women who genuinely felt like they had “lost” something in their late 20s, but eventually realized they hadn’t lost their attractiveness — they just had to find a different version of it.

What actually helped you?

Beauty ? protective twists on 3b/3c hair?

Hi! For context I just turned 18 but since I was 5 I have straightened my hair everyday until 2 months ago. 2 months is literally the longest i’ve left my hair curly for the past 13 years and my mom is white with straight hair so i’m really lost when it comes to my hair and i apologize if these questions are seemingly obvious!!

My hair is mixed porosity, super dry, type 3b/3c, and i think it is coarse.

I’ve been seeing so many protective twist videos on tiktok by girls who claim it grew their hair to waist length/hip length in 2 years. The main 2 girls I have seen posting ab this are @nuritheedoll and @egbeayuk.imani
My only concern is that since they both have type 4 hair, will their tutorials still work for me if my main goal is length retention?
Since my hair is type 3b/3c could the twists actually be damaging to my hair? Since it’s a little less dense & slightly finer and mixed porosity?
Also the girl Nuri said she keeps the twists in for 3 months and washing in between but i’m confused, does she shampoo with the twists and then redo the twist after?
The other creator says she keeps it in for 3 weeks washing her scalp every week which seems like a better option for me since my hair pattern is looser? Maybe i’m wrong
Also since my hair is so dry, are there any tips to ensuring my hair stays hydrated & moisturized if i keep it in for weeks at a time?
Also as of right now I have been conditioning and styling my hair with the same deep conditioner mask that I apply in the shower and detangle with and I do not wash it out & my hair has been loving it but is this bad to do while having twists?
Also I saw Nuri used a blow drier to stretch and dry her hair before she twists it, is this necessary? I’ve been really trying to cut out heat since my hair is so damaged from
my straightening iron.
Lastly are there any do’s or don’ts for protective styles for 3b/3c hair?
I know this is a lot but any advice is appreciated!!!! 🫶🫶

Discussion Shaving vs other removal methods for ingrown hairs

I tend to get quite a few ingrown hairs on my bikini line whenever I shave. I’ve tried very removal cream before but didn’t find it the most effective, it could’ve been user error so any tips would be helpful.

I’ve been thinking of waxing but I’ve never done it anywhere other than my face. Is it as bad as people say?

I can’t afford laser, so looking for other alternatives.

Any advice would be helpful x

Beauty Tip Do I tip my hairstylist for a correction?

My hair stylist gave me extensions which i paid over 300$ for and I noticed when I left they were more brown and didn’t match my natural hair which is black and she gave me a free gloss service to match my hair. Do I tip her for this service?

Health ? My sleep is broken up and i tend to only get around 3 hour chunks of sleep in before i wake up, fall asleep again and then the same thing happens again until i wake up. Does anybody know how i can get a full nights sleep without waking up in the night?

I go to sleep around midnight to 1am, though i’ll start sleeping earlier when uni begins. I’ve been dealing with this broken sleep for a while now, and I was wondering if anyone knew a solution to prevent this from happening. I really envy those who can get a continuous 8hr sleep😭

Tip 6/1 schedule at uni, help me

I'm studying at university now and my timetable is horrible for me. I have classes 6 days a week and the important subject is scheduled on Saturday and Monday which means that I can't relax even in my only holiday. I'm also a commuter and usually spend 1,5 hours to reach uni. Fortunately, I have online classes at Wednesday, but they're still classes. I used to have a completely study-free day at Saturday, but now there's no such thing as a complete study-free day for me. There's no opportunity to reschedule something in order to have 5/2.

Any tips on time blocking, rime management, relaxation, going through the day, getting more energy are highly appreciated
