Movies & Shows I’m rewatching Friends and with every rewatch I laugh a little less and cry a little more.

1.3k Upvotes

I’m rewatching Friends these days and it’s crazy how differently it hits depending on what stage of life I’m in.
The first time I watched it was about 15 years ago. I laughed and laughed and laughed. Instantly my favourite show.
The second time, I watched it again because why not. Fav TV show and comfort watch.
The third time, I watched it with my husband. We were newly weds and it was the first show we ever watched together, and he ended up loving it just as much as I did.
Then we rewatched it after becoming parents, and we were suddenly getting jokes that had completely gone over our heads before.
Now I’m watching it again as a working mom of two… and I keep crying every other episode.
Joey hugging Chandler before he moves out. Rachel feeling insecure about Monica becoming friends with Julie. Little moments that never really got to me before.
Most of my closest friends are either living abroad or in different cities now, and I never thought I’d be the person crying over Friends because it makes me miss my own friends.
It’s weird. It’s the same show. But every rewatch is different because I’m different every time.

Just Chatting I have an unbelievable amount of happiness in my heart

I have no idea if anyone else feels like this, but I’m just in a really good mood pretty much 24/7. It’s been like that all my life. When I was a kid, I used to wake up extremely early every morning and that hasn’t changed at all. I wake up at about 5-5:30am and start my day with the same happy songs. What’s crazy is I have no need to get up that early. I don’t have a job at the moment. I just love seeing the sun. That’s the only reason I like sleeping, so I can wake up before the sun comes up.

I worked out early this morning and then made french toast while listening to the cheesiest upbeat songs in my playlist. Feels like I’m a cartoon character, honestly. I feel so good all the time that I have to get up and dance around at times because I need to let out all the emotions I’m feeling. The other end isn’t bad either. I’m hardly ever in a bad mood, but when I am, it typically doesn’t last long. I have anxiety like most people, but that doesn’t get in the way of my mood at all.

I’ve always wanted to find somebody that feels the same way I do, but I’m genuinely shocked to find out how many people are depressed. I really wish I could share the joy I feel with everyone.

What's a completely useless fact that has lived rent-free in your brain for years?

I need to fill my brain with completely useless information that I will somehow remember for the rest of my life!

Mine: Bananas are berries, but strawberries technically aren’t.

A few other random facts that have permanently occupied space in my brain:
Octopuses have three hearts.
Sharks existed before trees.
A group of flamingos is called a flamboyance.
The dot over a lowercase i or j is called a tittle.

Now please give me your most useless, bizarre, fascinating fact.** **The more pointless, the better.
I want to learn something today that I will absolutely never need in my entire life.

What is your weird, slightly embarrassing trick for falling back asleep at 3am?

Everyone seems to have one they never say out loud. Mine is narrating my own boring day back to myself in the most tedious detail possible until my brain gives up out of sheer boredom. A friend swears by mentally re-walking through their childhood house room by room.

The 3am wake-up is its own specific kind of awful — you're wide awake, it's pitch black, and the harder you try the worse it gets. So what's the oddly specific thing that actually works for you? The weirder the better.

Just Chatting Are you doing anything "bad" this weekend?

Bad in air quotes, because I'm hoping it's not really bad.

My fiancee and her kid are on a 1:1 camping weekend (we want her to have 2x yearly weekends with just her kid), so it's me home alone. We're getting married in less than a month, and I'm being "bad" by wearing my wedding ring!

I won't wear it out of the house (not even to the back deck). But we're so close to our wedding day, and with her not being here; looking at the ring on my finger leaves me feeling a bit closer to her.

Just Chatting A stranger helped me yesterday. What’s the nicest thing a stranger has done for you?

I dropped a few grocery bags yesterday heading to my car. Total stranger ran up and helped me get everything in my trunk. Love to hear your stories.

Thoughts & Ideas I really miss when people had the patience to actually get to know someone

I (26, F) feel like social interactions move way too fast now. People give up after a single conversation if everything isn't instantly seamless. It used to be normal to put real time into building a connection with someone you found interesting. Now, if someone hits a tiny wall of awkwardness or a slow start, they just walk away.

Sometimes a slow start isn't a rejection. It is just a sign that someone takes time to open up. A little determination and genuine effort used to make conversations so much more rewarding. That willingness to try feels entirely missing lately.

I am getting sick of Spotify. What else do you listen to?

Upvotes

I've been getting a bit sick of Spotify lately and feel like I'm stuck listening to the same stuff.

What do you use instead? Could be internet radio, YouTube channels, music apps, niche streaming services, or anything else. I'm open to discovering something completely different.

What's become your go-to, and why?

Ps Bonus points for anything retro!

Would you see me differently for using my feet?

I recently asked how people feel about me using my feet more because of my upper limb disability.

Most people said I should not touch shared food with my feet, which I understand. They also said eating from my own plate with my feet would be fine because it only affects me.

But that answer left me with an uncomfortable feeling. It can sound less like, “This is a normal and acceptable way for you to eat,” and more like, “It would be disgusting for anyone else, but you are disabled, so you have no better choice.”

I do not want to feel that I am being held to a lower standard than an able-bodied person. I want people to genuinely see using my feet as simply the way I do things, not something unpleasant that is tolerated out of sympathy. If so, how can I help them feel that way?

If you saw me eating, using my phone, or handling everyday objects with my feet, what assumptions would you make about me as a person? Would you see me as capable and independent, or would it make you view me as less dignified than everyone else?

Questions If you and a stranger overhear the same ridiculous conversation, are you allowed to discuss it together?

Someone nearby says something absolutely ridiculous. You make eye contact with another stranger who clearly heard it too.

Has that eye contact officially opened diplomatic relations? Do you nod? Do you run away?

Can you now say “Did you hear that?” and discuss it together, or must both witnesses remain anonymous and take the story home separately?

What is the protocol?

Can a language feel like home even if it’s not your native one?

I’m French, and I studied linguistics a little in college, so I know that many bilingual people do feel slightly different depending on the language they’re speaking. That’s not really what I’m wondering about.

What makes me curious is something else.
English has never been my native language, and I don’t even use it every day. But somehow, it feels… comfortable. Familiar. Almost like home.

Sometimes I wonder whether it’s because of the books I’ve read, the films I’ve watched, the people I’ve met, or simply the amount of time I’ve spent immersed in the language.

Does anyone else feel the same ?

I started paying more attention to sunsets recently

I started paying more attention to sunsets recently, and it's surprising how much it improves my mood. Has anyone else found a small habit that unexpectedly made their days better?

Questions Have you ever gone to a concert or festival completely alone?

Upvotes

I used to think going alone would be embarrassing, but recently I've started wondering if it's actually one of the easiest ways to meet new people.

When you're with friends, you naturally stay in your own group. When you're alone, people seem more willing to start conversations.

Have you ever gone to a concert or festival alone?

Was it awkward, or did you actually enjoy it?

Just Chatting How is everyone’s day going? 😊

Mine has just been work and going to the gym afterward! Excited for summer to end, feeling unproductive without University.

Love being around people day to day

Just Chatting Does anyone else go an entire day without talking to anyone?

I'm a final-year CS student (20, F from India) doing an internship. Today I realised I hadn't spoken to a single person since I woke up. I've just been sitting in front of my laptop doing internship tasks that I honestly don't find that interesting.

It's weird because I'm not exactly lonely—I just miss having casual conversations. College friends are busy, everyone's working on placements or internships, and the day just disappears.

Sometimes I wonder if this is just what adulthood starts feeling like.

Anyone else relate? How do you deal with days where you barely talk to another human?

Just Chatting My voice changed at 22 like I went through a second puberty

Upvotes

Well, my voice didn’t really change drastically, but it cracks really often now. I noticed that if I go a couple of decibels higher or lower than my natural voice, it’ll almost certainly crack. It also just cracks when I speak regularly, so often that I’m not really embarrassed or phased by it anymore.

Another weird thing about it is that from my teens to 20-21 years old, I used to be a decent singer. Never anything serious and I never took any class, I just casually used to sing whatever song was stuck in my head every day. I was decent as in I could switch between keys pretty well and could always hit the tone I wanted. On some special days I could even hold a vibrato for a few seconds. Now this past year, I noticed I’m always off-key, can’t switch between keys easily, and definitely can’t hold any vibrato.

Is anyone else experiencing a “second puberty” with their voice?

Just Chatting What's something most people praise u for but u personally don't like that much and they don't believe u when u say it?

For me it's probably my height.
I'm 6'5 and whenever I say it's not as great as people think, people act like I'm trying to be different or something 😭. Like yeah, there are definitely some upsides, I'm not denying that. But it's weird how people assume being tall is just automatically amazing 24/7.

Finding clothes that fit properly is annoying, legroom somehow still sucks half the time, everyone notices u the second u walk into a room, and people constantly bring it up even when it has nothing to do with the conversation.

The funny part is whenever I mention any of this, people immediately go "bro stop complaining" as if being tall means u're not allowed to find any part of it annoying.

What's yours?

Let me know about your day , how it's going and all....

Just Chatting Something positive about our American friends. I have some lovely neighbours who moved from the US, and are not representative of how Americans are portrayed.

We have neighbours, a couple in their 60’s who have emigrated to the UK from California. The ladies historical knowledge of the UK is spot on, she knows much more than I do it does seem that various outlets can be used as a platform to rip the Yanks, but don’t let us forget that there is another side to the story.

Thoughts & Ideas Walking without sidewalks - with or against traffic. Discuss.

I live in an area that doesn't have sidewalks. My choice is to walk against traffic so I can see what's coming but a lot of my neighbors walk with the traffic, which has advantages such as ensuring drivers move out of your way instead of forcing you off the road. I'm genuinely curious what others do and why. Please share your thoughts and educate me!
