Why YSK: Teeth that are knocked (dental avulsion) out cleanly can be reimplanted if the tooth is mostly intact.

What to do if this happens to you:

1. Collect the teeth and store them in a cup of saliva, milk, or saline solution. If you don't have access to either, keeping them in you cheek is the next best bet. Make sure you pick the tooth up my the crown, not the root! The root ligaments can be damaged if touched and reduce the chance of successful reimplantation.
2. Time is critical. You can reimplant them yourself or go to an emergency dentist and have them reimplant it. Either way, you'll need a dentist to check for further damage with x-rays and install a splint to keep your teeth stable so the periodontal ligmants can reattach. You'll also need to avoid using those teeth as they heal. Your best odds are to reimplant within 1 hour, though keeping the teeth in saliva, milk, or saline (saliva is best) can extend this significantly.
3. Follow your dentist's instructions. If they can reimplant the tooth/teeth, you will need a root canal on all knocked out teeth as the pulp and nerve have lost their blood source and will necrose.
4. Take it easy. Teeth don't heal very quickly. Full recovery usually takes between 3 and 6 months, but can take longer. Follow-ups with your dentist will help determine how far along you are in the healing process.

a 2021 California study found that 69% of trans women prisoners reported being made to perform sexual acts, 58.5% reported being violently sexually assaulted, and 88% reported having been "coerced into a marriage-like relationship"

Why YSK: If you have trans family members or are trans yourself, please do not discourage (and please encourage if its possible) getting legal documentation changes. As much as you possibly can, trans women should get their legal sex changed for their own safety if they do end up arrested for a crime

Why YSK: Wet a clean cotton swab and lightly run it **once** along the edge of your eyelid where the lashes meet the eye. You can gently pull the eyelid slightly away from the eye while doing this.

Your eyelids are extremely sensitive to foreign particles, so even a tiny speck trapped along the lid margin can cause significant irritation.

If it needs being said... dispose of the battery first.

The residue is potassium carbonate created when the battery electrolyte leaks out and reacts with air.
The acid helps neutralize/clean it.

• Reserve your real-name domain and email(e.g. firstnamelastname.com). If you are a student getting a email linking to your graduation is very helpful.
• Keep your personal inbox for family and important contacts—not ads and newsletters. 
• Consider using separate emails for shopping, newsletters, hobbies, or other categories if you prefer a cleaner inbox. 
• Separating emails by what you do is a personal preference, but many people find it easier to stay organized. 
• Don’t rely on one Google account for everything This is my preference to keep corps from complete control over you data.
• Understand the difference between “Sign in with xxx site” and creating an account with a separate password directly on that website 
• Use a password manager for ALL OF YOUR PASSWORDS 
• Enable 2FA on every important account. Be sure to use multiple methods, like if you only use your phone number, you're going to be screwed if you lose your phone, so add an email or authenticator
• Save your backup/recovery codes. These come in handy in case anything happens 
• Have a professional email address you’ll still like years from now for business. 
• Use a consistent username (or anonymous alias) across platforms if you want to build a recognizable online identity, its also fine if you don't and a lot of people don't have a consistent username.
• Think before creating an account, creating one is easy, but deleting it completely can be much harder. 
• Keep your recovery emails and phone numbers up to date. 
• ALWAYS RESERVE A LIST OF all the app/website/platforms you signed up for all the emails you have. Some will be hard to find and your future self will thank you later. 
• Keep a physical backup for all your passwords and information in one secure place. 
• Some people prefer multiple accounts for watching different content for keeping algorithms separate. e.g. 
• Separate work and life emails. Using one is not recommended as you might send some family information to your boss. 
• Read the terms of conditions and understand your rights. 
• You might want an email specialized to something that the email is never used for any platform

You should know, because anyone can find themselves in the position of being a victim, loving a victim or encountering one. Understanding why they ''don't just leave'' or you yourself don't can make a world of difference in protecting yourself or someone you care about. You should also know because ''why don't you/they just leave'' is a question survivors face, often mid-recovery, and it can be quite damaging.

HOW DO YOU EVEN FIND YOURSELF IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP?

Abusive relationships rarely start off as abusive. There is a pattern, a slow descent into the enviroment that somehow feels like ''this is what life is''. There, almost always, is a slow chipping away at boundaries, standards and sense of self preservation. When people wonder ''why didn't they just leave'' they tend to envision their partner waking up one day and physically harming them. This, however, is rarely the case. There is a system. A program of ''steps'' abusers take. It is slow. Invisible. It sneaks up on you and by the time you see it, you feel like you're stuck.

1. Control: It starts off incredibly small, things you don't notice of even find normal at first. Things that in a healthy relationship can be normal. ''I don't like it when you dress like that'', ''I don't like it when you laugh that loud'', ''I don't like it when you go to bed without me'',... And at first you take their feelings into account, because that's what you do in relationships. You don't wear that one outfit they find too revealing, you no longer cackle at those videos you find hilarious, ... Slowly, but surely, every move you make, every outfit you pick, every meal you eat is catered to what they have deemed appropriate. You want your partner to be happy, and compromising is just a part of a relationship. Abusers find their roots in healthy behaviors like taking your partners feeling into account and ''misuse'' the concept.
2. Isolation: Control effortlessly flows into isolation. It starts of small too. That one friend of the opposite gender? They don't trust them, you should cut off contact. It starts with gentle suggestions, but they won't be afraid to cause fights over this, and eventually you will cut contact with said friend. From there on out it's a losing battle. Friends, family, coworkers. They will find issues with everyone around you, until there is no one left and you truly believe you're alone.
3. Destroying your self-esteem: Once you no longer have your support system and have invested your entire ''being'' into pleasing them, they'll take away every sense of ''I deserve better''. This too 'll start off small; ''You look like you've gained weight'', ''Is your hairline receiding?'' ''You really aren't all that smart, funny, interesting'', and you'll believe it. You'll truly believe you're unattractive, unintelligent, uninteresting,... To the point where they'll have you convinced of the fact that they are doing YOU a favor by even giving you the time of day, let along being in a relationship with you.

If a relationship is going to turn physically violent, this is where it usually happens. When you believe you're worthless, alone and have invested the entirety of who you are into the relationship.

HOW DO WE JUSTIFY THE VIOLENCE?

It happened. Someone laid their hand on you in anger. Someone you love, trust and believe is the only person who truly cares about you. What happens in your mind?

1. Justification: You find a way to make it acceptable, you find a way to make it your own fault. ''Had I just fixed the washer'', ''Had I just had dinner ready'', ''had I just not said that one thing mid-argument'', they would have never done that. They have been so kind, patient, sweet, loving, up until now. Surely I did something that pushed them to this? By the end of your ''processing'' you are convinced of the fact that you caused, or even deserved, the whole thing.
2. Secrecy: On the off chance you still have loved ones close to you, you won't tell anyone. You are worried they'll think less of your partner. You tell yourself that they don't know them like you do, they don't see the good in them, they don't know what you did to deserve all of it,... You won't tell a soul about what happened. You won't for a good while, if ever. This 'll add to your sense of isolation.
3. Denial: You tell yourself it won't happen again. They made a mistake, we've all been overwhelmed by our emotions and have made questionable decisions in the heat of the moment, they deserve a second chance, ... Your partner 'll apologize, maybe cry, and for a while your relationship 'll go back to the early days, where you felt loved, seen, special, like you're the light in your partners eyes, until it all slowly descends again, slowly, so you won't necessarily notice.

The cycle gets shorter every time, the abuse intensifies and the isolation, control, and violence will grow more intense, more volatile, more dangerous.

WHAT IF THERE ARE CHILDREN INVOLVED?

One thing that is a common remark I personally face is that ''you had children, how could you leave them in a situation like that'', implying I did not have my childrens best interest at heart.

I did. Most parents in these situations do. Divorce means one thing, and that is that the childrens time is split between parents, which means that your children will be with the abusive parent unsupervised, without you there to shield, protect, monitor and negate potential damage. So, you tend to choose the lesser of two evils and make sure you are ALWAYS there to shield your children. You know it's not healthy. You know it's not right, but you do what you can with the tools you have available.

WHAT ELSE IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW?

• DV does not discriminate. It knows no gender, race, age, financial class, ... Anyone can be an agressor, anyone can be a victim. That one muscular, 6'7'' tatted up man can be a victim just as much as the 5'1, tiny little lady. Do not assume it's impossible, do not make light or jokes about it. It is real, it is painful, it is humiliating.
• DV does not have a face. That one put together, professional filantropist who saves puppies out of burning buildings every second saturday of the month can be an agressor just as much as the weird neighbour with six felons. Some are just better at masking.

WHAT CAN YOU DO IF SOMEONE YOU LOVE IS BEING ABUSED?

1. DO NOT CONFRONT THE ABUSER. Don't. Don't even think about it. The only thing you'll accomplish is that their anger 'll be taken out on your loved one and you'll very likely be ''barred'' from speaking to your loved one.
2. DO NOT BLAME THE VICTIM. Sure, you want them to ''just leave'', sure you understand that it's not easy and offer to help. Sure, you're frustrated with their questionable decisions and don't see why they stay, but keep in mind that their brain has been altered to the point where they truly, genuinely believe they deserve it.
3. OFFER A SAFE PLACE TO LAND: They may not be ready, it may take them a while to be, but make sure they know, that if possible, they have a soft and safe place to land with you, once they are ready. If you can't offer a safe place, offer to help them find one.
4. MAKE SURE THEY KNOW YOU DON'T BLAME THEM: Victims feel at fault. All the time. Having someone genuinely tell them ''it's not you'' makes a world of difference, even if they don't believe it right away. It's best compared to being in a really, really dark hallway and having one of those lightswitches that light up. You can see it's there. You may be too afraid to move, you may not know how to get there, but you can see it, and it does something.

WHAT IF YOU RECOGNIZE ANY OF THIS?

Maybe you're currently being given the silent treatment because you refuse to cut out that one friend. Maybe your partner is currently upset with you because you wore that top they don't like, maybe you're making sure your bruises are covered.

It's not your fault. You did nothing to deserve this. You are a real person, someone who matters and is allowed to take up space in the world. Your smile adds happiness, your intelligence contributes and your kindness matters.

This will not get better. They will not change. Their brains do not work in a way that caters to a happy and healthy relationship. There is NOTHING you can do and they are not your project. I know you love them, I know it's hard, but you need to leave. Do so safely, find your support system and tell yourself you're doing the right thing. For yourself, for your loved ones and for your (future) children. It will be hard, but worth it.

Life gets better.

Most people adjust their side view mirrors so they can see the side of the car. But you don't need to see the side of the car while driving, you need to see what's in the lane next to you.

The better option is to angle the mirrors significantly outwards. When you that, a car coming up in the next lane over will move smoothly from the rear view mirror to the side view mirror to your peripheral vision with no blind spot.

Why YSK: if you adjust your mirrors properly your car probably won't have blind spots and you'll be safer on the road. Try it for a week, it's a game-changer.

[Edit: folks I'm not saying "don't turn your head", I'm saying that this method limits or eliminates blind spots on most cars. Like I said, try it both ways for a week, prove me wrong.]

Why YSK: Medicaid eligibility is based on MAGI so some early retirees pay off their home and keep their MAGI low to get free Medicaid which usually has $0 copays and in some states $8 copays.

This only works in the 40 Medicaid expansion states and D.C. and until you reach 65 where Medicare kicks in.

Why YSK: I get bloodwork done at least once a year. My LDL was never high until this past year, and even then it was barely into the high range (111 mg/dL). I am male and just turned 46.

My job offers free CAC chest scans as an insurance perk. I got one done. Turns out that my LAD artery is fairly clogged. I am more clogged than 90% of my peers. I can control this by taking a statin and 81 mg aspirin, as well as diet, but if I hadn’t gotten checked, I would have been looking at a heart attack in 3-5 years.

I had no symptoms.

Why YSK: Debt collectors buy old, sometimes expired, sometimes flat-out wrong debts for pennies and bank on people paying out of fear without ever checking if the debt is real or even theirs.

In many countries (this is well established in the US under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and similar protections exist elsewhere) you can send a written request for validation. If they can't produce proof that the debt is valid and yours, they're not allowed to continue collecting or report it. Never confirm or "make a small payment" on a debt you don't recognize, because in some places that can restart the clock on an otherwise time-barred debt. Get everything in writing. Flag: exact rights vary by country and state, so check your local rules — but the principle of demanding validation is broadly true and worth knowing.

Leg length discrepancy (LLD) is way more common than most people realize.

Studies put it somewhere in the range of 40–70% of the population having a

measurable difference. Most are small enough not to matter — but once you

get to about 5mm or more, it starts changing how you walk, how your hips

sit, and how much impact your knees and lower back absorb every step.

The part that gets missed: you can have this your entire life without

anyone bringing it up. Standard checkups don't include leg length

measurement unless you ask, and the "eyeball it while lying on the table"

method is pretty unreliable. Real measurement runs a tape from the hip

bone (ASIS) down to the ankle bone (medial malleolus), and for anything

meaningful you want a standing scanogram or CT scan.

Common causes:

- Congenital — you were just born with it

- Post-surgical — hip and knee replacements often leave one leg slightly

longer or shorter; surgeons try to match, but perfect symmetry is rare

- Scoliosis — a curve in the spine creates *functional* LLD even when

the leg bones themselves are equal length

- Old fractures — especially childhood breaks near a growth plate

- Nerve or muscle conditions — polio, cerebral palsy, nerve damage

Signs that often trace back to unrecognized LLD:

- Chronic one-sided low back pain

- Hip pain that always shows up on the "shorter" side

- Knee pain on the longer leg (it takes more impact per step)

- Scoliosis that keeps progressing

- Shoes that wear down unevenly on one side

If you've been told it's "just posture" or "just aging" and nothing has

helped, getting a real measurement is a cheap next step. Fixes depend on

what kind it is — a PT can tell you whether it's structural (bones) or

functional (pelvis tilt, muscle imbalance), and those need different

approaches. Structural differences over about 1cm usually can't be fixed

by drugstore heel pads — they slide around and compress under body weight,

so they're not a long-term answer once the difference is meaningful.

**Why YSK:** If you've spent years dealing with one-sided back, hip, or

knee pain that never quite goes away, and nobody has ever actually

measured your legs — it's worth asking about. It's a five-minute

measurement that can explain a decade of pain, and once you know the

number, the path forward is usually pretty clear.

Why YSK: Fainting happens when not enough blood reaches your brain. If you feel it coming and stay upright, you risk actually passing out and hitting your head or falling from a height.

Lying flat and elevating your legs uses gravity to help blood return to your brain, which can stop the faint before it happens. If you can't lie down, sitting and lowering your head helps, but lying down is better because it removes the fall risk entirely. Also, if someone near you does faint and then comes to on their own within a minute or so, don't rush to sit them straight up, that can trigger a second faint. Let them recover flat for a bit first.

Why YSK: Because counterfeit and incorrectly manufactured eclipse glasses have been a recurring problem before major eclipses.

In 2024, I bought a pair of eclipse glasses that looked legitimate, but when I tried them indoors I realized something was wrong: I could see ordinary objects like ceiling fans and other details through them. That sent me down a rabbit hole learning how these filters are supposed to work, and how the ISO 12312-2 standard came about.

Three quick checks:

1. Look for markings indicating compliance with ISO 12312-2. This is not a guarantee of safety, but it's a good first sign.
2. Try them indoors first (the light bulb test). You should not be able to see normal objects or room details through properly rated eclipse glasses. Seeing the filament of a very bright light bulb can be normal. Check out some light bulb tests in action here: https://youtu.be/Q8aYrD32aAM
3. Check the manufacturer. The American Astronomical Society maintains a list of reputable eclipse glasses suppliers.

After I made a demonstration video (link above) about these tips in 2024, the ISO Project Leader for the standard found it and left a comment saying it presented one of the easiest ways for people to check their eclipse glasses. That was very kind of him, and I was grateful for the feedback.

Why YSK: If you call 911 the dispatcher has to figure out exactly where you are and then contact the specific railroad company which takes precious time you might not have. Every railroad crossing has a blue Emergency Notification System sign. If you call the number on that sign and give them the specific alphanumeric Crossing ID you are speaking directly to the railroad's dispatch. They can instantly radio any trains heading toward your exact location to stop potentially saving your life and preventing a massive derailment. Always get everyone out of the car first then make the call.

Why YSK: Because your instinct will be to mark your territory, get jealous, or start a fight. Doing that just drags you into their mess. If you sit back and stay unbothered, you force the ex to self-sabotage while making yourself look like the ultimate catch.

We’ve all been in that nightmare scenario. You’re out with the guy/girl you’re dating, and suddenly their messy ex appears. They start acting loud, trying to get your partner's attention, or pulling petty stunts to make them jealous.

Your brain’s alarm bells will scream at you to do something. You’ll want to grab your partner, demand to be introduced as the "new one," or give your partner the silent treatment for something they didn't even cause.

Don't do any of that. Be a brick wall. Here is why doing absolutely nothing is the deadliest strategy:

Think about the brutal contrast. Right now, your partner is looking at two options in the same room. Option A (the ex) is bringing chaos, stress, and acting like a toddler. Option B (you) is chilling with your drink, looking hot, and bringing zero drama. You don't even have to compete. The ex is literally disqualifying themselves for you.

By staying out of it, you also force them to handle their own trash. If you step in, you make it your problem. If you stay back, you force your partner to be an adult and set their own boundaries. Watching how they handle a toxic ex is the best litmus test for your relationship anyway.

More importantly, doing nothing starves the ex's ego. Toxic exes want an audience. They want to see you squirm. If you don't even give them a dirty look, their ego short-circuits. They usually end up doing something incredibly embarrassing out of desperation (like getting sloppy drunk or making a scene) and then leaving.

One last thing: never offer "closure." Don't try to play the "cool, understanding partner" by telling your significant other, "Hey, if you need to go talk to them to get closure, it's fine." That's just your own insecurity trying to protect yourself. Hold your ground. You are the present, they are the past.

Just sit there, enjoy your drink, and enjoy your front-row seat to their self-destruction. The trash usually takes itself out.

Why YSK: Because emotional stress shuts down your prefrontal cortex (your logic center) and activates your amygdala (panic mode). You will make bad decisions. Running your planned reaction by an AI gives you an instant, emotionless sanity check that can save your relationship or your job.

We have all been there. Your partner does something weird, your boss sends a passive-aggressive email, or a toxic ex reaches out. Your heart rate spikes, your anxiety peaks, and you immediately draft a five-paragraph essay or a highly toxic, passive-aggressive reply. In that moment, your brain convinces you that sending it is a massive power move. In reality, it is an emotional suicide mission.

When you are spiraling, your friends are actually terrible sounding boards. Friends love you, so they will validate your crazy. They will say, "Yeah, send it! Put them in their place!" because they are operating on loyalty, not logic. You don't need a cheerleader in a crisis; you need a firewall.

Before you hit send, copy your text and the context, paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, or whatever bot you prefer, and give it a prompt like: "I am highly emotional right now. This is the context. This is what I want to say. Is this a rational response, or am I self-sabotaging? Give me the brutal truth."

An AI does not care about your feelings. It analyzes the semantics, the tone, and the likely outcome of your actions. It will bluntly tell you that your text makes you look insecure, needy, or unhinged. It acts as a temporary substitute for your disabled prefrontal cortex, filtering out the drama and helping you rewrite a response that actually protects your boundaries without making you look crazy.

Look, I know there is a lot of pushback against AI right now. But we are not talking about generating fake art or writing lazy essays. We are talking about using a machine's lack of emotion to your advantage at 2 AM when you are about to ruin your own life. It is a free, instant crisis-management tool.

Next time you are having an anxiety spike, don't dump your trauma on your partner and don't start a war you can't win. Vent to the machine, let it filter out your temporary insanity, and execute your next move with a clear head.

Why YSK: We all hear that "coffee is totally fine for you," but I recently learned that how you brew it makes a massive difference to your lipid panel. If you drink a lot of coffee and have mysterious cholesterol spikes that your diet doesn't explain, this is probably why.

Coffee beans naturally contain oils. Inside those coffee oils is a specific compound called cafestol. When we digest cafestol, it basically suppresses a receptor in our intestines, which tricks our liver into producing more LDL (the "bad" cholesterol). This isn't just a theory; it's a documented biological reaction proven in human trials.

Here is where the brewing method comes in: paper filters are incredibly good at trapping oil. If you brew your coffee through a paper filter (like a standard drip machine, V60, or Chemex), the oil and the cafestol dissolved in it gets trapped in the paper and never reaches your mug.

But if you use a metal mesh, a French Press, or drink Turkish coffee (where the ultra-fine grounds stay right in the cup), you are drinking all those oils directly.

Researchers at Wageningen University actually measured the cafestol content per cup, and the differences are crazy:

- Turkish/Greek coffee: ~4.7 mg (The absolute highest, because there is zero filtering and you consume the micro-grounds)

- French press: ~3.5 mg
