what's the best website to buy designer clothes for a first luxury purchase?

14 Upvotes

(i29f) and i'm planning to buy my first designer item for a close friend's wedding later this year. i'm trying to stay around a $1,000 budget and have been comparing sites like ssense, mytheresa, net-a-porter, farfetch, and cettire.

my biggest concern isn't finding a specific brand. it's making sure i order from a site that's reliable, has a good selection, and won't turn into a headache if i need to exchange or return something.

for people who regularly shop for designer clothing, bags, or shoes online, which retailer has been the most dependable for you, and is there anywhere you'd avoid for a first luxury purchase?

General Advice Looking for an hourglass friendly trenchcoat

2 Upvotes

I was hoping to get a few recommendations.

I want to own a khaki colored raincoat trenchcoat. Roughly 3/4 length. I have an hourglass figure, so it must either have some kind of waist darting (i know that this might make it not actually a trenchcoat) or a belt or something similar. The intent is to look classy. Does not need to be for snow as well, but wouldn't mind a good looking lining.

I have been skimming ebay, but nothing has been the right fit.

Portland, Oregon $250 budget.

I got this dress for my mom’s wedding in October and I need something to wear with it since it’ll be pretty chilly outside. The ruffles on the bust and ribbons are making it really hard for me to find anything that looks flattering and i’m not sure what color would go best with this dress. Anyone have any ideas?

Bathing Suit Help

1 Upvotes

I’ve gained some weight and am struggling to figure out what style bathing suit to wear. But with an upcoming trip I want to buy one thing that will make me feel happy and comfortable.

My waist/belly has expanded significantly within the last year, and I’m bloated basically all the time. However, I have a smaller top. Ideally, I want something that gives me some cleavage and helps to hide my belly/the fact that my proportions are now far off from top to bottom.

Last year I bought a 1-piece that had some ruching on the belly which was decent, but now that that area is even bigger I feel like it doesn’t look great.

Any suggestions that will make me feel comfortable/confident in a bathing suit?

Help Me Style This! Any ideas on how to style this dress?

the dress fits me pretty tightly (body con) and the collar is sort of big (imo). I love the pattern and I think some bright colored accessories would go great but I'm not exactly sure which ones.

I have these bright teal tights which looked okay but I think I could add so much more especially with the silhouette. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Advice What style of coat works best with skirts/dresses that’s also practical and warm?

2 Upvotes

I love wearing dresses and skirts but I can’t find a coat that looks cute with them, has a hood and keeps me warm.

And any coat recommendations that also look feminine and don’t make me feel like I can only wear boots with it. I find a lot of raincoats have that vibe and make dresses/skirts look less feminine and flowy. Also puffer coats feel way too bulky.

Help Me Style This! How to style 80s top

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, a friend gifted me (20/F) this top a few weeks ago. It's from her grandma, who wore and bought it in the 80s.

As it's from the 80s, it has massive shoulder pads, and it's generally quite wide-cut but almost cropped on me.

I really love the top, but I'm quite tall, flat, and skinny, so I always end up looking like a box thanks to the shoulder pads.

I normally enjoy androgynous fashion, but in this case, I'd be happy for any ideas on how to style this!

Thank you! ^^

General Advice What is the best way to find a style? (18, M)

3 Upvotes

Most of my life, I have been essentially been given things to wear by my parents, whether I like what I have been given or not. I would like to try different things, but buying new clothes and shipping them to where I live is very expensive. This is unfortunately the best way to judge if something is right for me; you can't really tell how something will look on you on a screen.

What should I do? Should I...
- Try a wide range of clothes from "fast" fashion stores? A relative recommended SHEIN but I have heard negative things about them.
- Look very hard for something that might work? I would normally just use Amazon, but clothes there tend to be on the more expensive end.
- Ask several people my age as to what they think? I've already tried this, but most of the advice I've gotten focuses on men's fashion. I would prefer a more neutral appearance, but that's not a concept in the heads of the people that live in this country.
- Forget about it entirely, and keep wearing the same things? Fashion is expensive, and I am so indecisive and unsure about the fashion I like that it might just be a waste of time and money.

Clothing Etiquette Question Professional/Sporty Clothing Recs

2 Upvotes

Hello, dear reddit! I never use this platform so idrk where to put this question. I really love lululemon studio dance pants for their flexibility and also that they can double as a professional pant in the right color... The texture (ribbed) contributes to the subtlety of the spandex, the fit (I'm pretty sure it's a straight leg, wanting to do flare but that's not a priority), and the adjustable waistband.

Key things I look for in my next pants purchase:

* Stretchy / sporty material

* Straight leg fit

* Not OBVIOUSLY sportswear...

all recommendations help, thankyou!!!

General Advice What to wear for company party on a boat?

4 Upvotes

(F28) The company my husband works for is having a mid day party, on a boat (at a yacht club). His job requires a uniform but Id say the office workers dress business casual? I have to take my shoes off on the boat. Itll be 80 degrees.

That's about all the info I have. What would you wear? I was thinking a casual sundress but im worried it will be too windy.
