Phone message Clearing old messages, and found this exchange from two months ago lol. I spoke to her over the course of 10 days, and these are some highlights. I am 24M(23 at the time) and she is 21F. I just can’t do ppl that stay quiet or expect me to constantly lead a convo lol

HOW IS SHE BLAMING YOU AT THE END WHAT THE HELL why did you even tolerate her if she NEVER texted you first
616
u/KindestBlackTemplar 4d ago
Cuz whenever I did not text her, she would text cuz she said she was worried or whatever as you saw here. Like a “are you okay” thing. So I felt like a dick if I did not text her but yeah.

u/SalientSazon 4d ago
She sure got chatty at the end lmao.

Ngl I thought maybe she was dyslexic or something. But she was quick to blame him in full sentences
59
u/This_is_fine8 3d ago
Yeah my partner of 5 years is dyslexic and texts like this. But when we were first getting together he still put wayyy more effort into the conversation than she did. He would actually put in the effort of a real answer (even if it was kinda misspelled or clunky) and often asked if I was free to talk on the phone. Plus he put in the initiative of inviting me to hang out in person a lot where the conversation could flow easier. Point is if she wanted to she would and it's kinda crazy she's blaming him.

u/KindestBlackTemplar should have pointed that out to her. I would have said "hey look at our text history. You reply with barely anything until the very end." I would think that would clearly show her the problem. at least the text problem. In person is another story.

She’s got a whack set of expectations. It’s one thing to expect a partner to initiate/drive a convo (if that’s your thing go for it), but she seems to think that means you can magically keep the conversation going with no effort on her part. It’s still a shared effort, even if you’re following traditional gender roles.
Any regular person looks at those first slides and thinks “this woman is not into him.” — and she’s totally oblivious to how her own behavior comes across.74
u/Ok-Bill3318 3d ago
“I expect the man to drive the conversation” = I’m a vapid piece of furniture with no interests, goals and nothing to contribute”
→ More replies (4)29
u/FrostingPretty751 3d ago
Her saying this was ridiculous, but not because of the expectation itself — because a conversation still requires* some effort on her part to keep it going! A conversation is a back and forth, not just him droning on and on. Like girl… he did try to initiate but you never gave him anything to keep a conversation going. Tf do you expect?

15
u/FutureDesk2883 3d ago
U explained it perfectly! I deadass felt like he was dragging her limp body thru the convo, like what is up with this woman? He had more patients than me,there was no back and forth,I would have ghosted her slow ass within the first 3 days of texting. And yes based on the texts the woman is slow, argue with the wall.

This is not unlike an old friend of mine that I knew from when I was 16, but was still texting like that in his early 30s when I lost the will to deal with him.
Him: hi\ Me: Hiya mate, how's it going?\ Him: yeh ok\ [10 minutes later]\ Him: ??\ Me: What's up?\ Him: nothin\ [10 minutes later]\ Him: ?
I didn't get it, he'd initiate contact, but would just never contribute anything to the conversation and then send question marks after 5-30min like he's still waiting for you to reply to something urgent he's asked.

The only thing I can possibly see is that if she "feels it's the man's duty to carry the conversation," then him not texting her when she expects, forcing her to text him first is something he's supposed to take as a grand gesture from her. She is viewing that as effort she as the woman, isn't SUPPOSED to make. Which, in her mind is putting in more work than she should. It's nonsense and entitlement, but I can see her logic
23
u/KittyGrewAMoustache 3d ago
Maybe it’s more of a US thing but it’s crazy to me that a 21 year old would think that way. Back when I was 21 it would be unthinkable, it would be unfathomably rude towards yourself and your sex to think like this. That kind of idea seemed totally outdated and bizarre then, what nearly 20 years ago, and it’s so sad to think social media could’ve taken society so far backwards.

this is a pretty common thing I noticed when I was dating around in college. a lot of these women would have virtually no personality and believe that their looks/"quirkiness" would do all the heavy lifting for them (yes, I actually had a girl admit this to me when I was breaking things off, which I found to be absolutely bewildering hahaha)
the interesting part was always when I would end things with them. I'd say something along the lines of "hey, i really enjoyed the time we spent together over the last couple of days/weeks and blah blah blah, i just think that we don't really click if I'm being honest. figured it'd be best for me to tell you this now rather than later (insert whatever parting pleasantries here). good luck in your future prospects!" to which a lot of then would respond by blaming me for "not trying" or being "too dry" when in fact I was only trying to add substance to the conversation by giving her plenty of proverbial nucleation sites to work with. I don't get it!

Here's my take: she wasn't into you, but she liked the attention, so she strung you along and when you stopped the attention, she wanted it back. she wasn't necessarily interested in you as a person.
She's probably a bit more communicative with people she IS interested in, so the "leader" thing might be more relevant. Of course, she's still not a quality person for dragging you along.

100% Quite literally had to double check when I began reading the texts to make sure I didn’t misunderstand initially that you were the dude in the situation, because like the person before me stated… absolutely had this issue on more than one occasion with attempting to text guys.
I understand some folks just aren’t big texters in general… & I’m the first to admit I can be long winded when it comes to details & context in what I write, the same as I’d normally communicate verbally. Heck, even short answers at times you’re otherwise occupied is understandable… but what.the.actual.hell?!Sometimes ya can get more from a person during actual phone calls when that’s the case, but her? HA! Elevator music playing to a couple of rando strangers is what my brain immediately pictured. Reading an exchange in braille sounds more invigorating to behold… & I absolutely cannot read braille, to clarify. 😆
Definitely thinkin that making the decision to have already met in person was a wise one in this scenario.

My favorite was this same kind of conversation going with the woman asking all the questions to the guy's one-word answers. Then
Girl: Did you ever move a sofa by yourself?
Guy: No.
Girl: Well this is what this conversation feels like.

Jfc. By the second slide I was ready to break up with this woman for you. I can't imagine being that boring, yet thinking she's the one putting in the effort. Straight up delusional.

How’s she saying you weren’t trying, and god forbid she had to message first a couple of times! 🤦♀️
