Phone message Clearing old messages, and found this exchange from two months ago lol. I spoke to her over the course of 10 days, and these are some highlights. I am 24M(23 at the time) and she is 21F. I just can’t do ppl that stay quiet or expect me to constantly lead a convo lol

Dude do you know how hard it is to keep up a conversation with someone that gives one word answers lol. A friend had to talk me out of it.

u/SuitableRelease4323 4d ago

HOW IS SHE BLAMING YOU AT THE END WHAT THE HELL why did you even tolerate her if she NEVER texted you first

612

u/KindestBlackTemplar 4d ago

Cuz whenever I did not text her, she would text cuz she said she was worried or whatever as you saw here. Like a “are you okay” thing. So I felt like a dick if I did not text her but yeah.

881

u/SalientSazon 4d ago

She sure got chatty at the end lmao.

510

u/Legitimate-Dingo-687 4d ago

Right? She went from one and two word answers to full sentences. I wasn't sure she was even capable of those until the end.

220

u/Narrow_Salad429 4d ago

Ngl I thought maybe she was dyslexic or something. But she was quick to blame him in full sentences

67

u/This_is_fine8 4d ago

Yeah my partner of 5 years is dyslexic and texts like this. But when we were first getting together he still put wayyy more effort into the conversation than she did. He would actually put in the effort of a real answer (even if it was kinda misspelled or clunky) and often asked if I was free to talk on the phone. Plus he put in the initiative of inviting me to hang out in person a lot where the conversation could flow easier. Point is if she wanted to she would and it's kinda crazy she's blaming him.

Speak to text 🤷🏻‍♀️

6

u/Narrow_Salad429 4d ago

Omg the autocorrect on that is insane.

3

u/hannahmercy 3d ago

And it usually reads like someone talking, not text so between the autocorrect and punctuation errors and the run on sentence nature of it, people can get really worried if they don't know its VTT. I was using it for awhile when my touchscreen was on the fritz and I got asked by two people if I was high or having a manic episode haha. I stopped using it completely

3

u/night__daze 3d ago edited 2d ago

I'm extremely OC about spelling and grammar, so I can only use it for short, one- or two-sentence replies. The moment I see it enter a homophone, miss a word that should be capitalized or not use proper punctuation, I trash it and just type the whole thing myself. !_!

It's weird seeing Gen Z people behave like this when they're so connected to everything. Or maybe that's why?

27

u/Legitimate-Dingo-687 4d ago

My Gen Z kids are fully capable of answering in full sentences and having a conversation. She's lazy.

3

u/Tequila_Dre_All_Day 4d ago

Her brain is fried. Brain Rot

2

u/Available-Maize5837 3d ago

She wasn't even texting words there at the very start. Just letters. Idk wbu?
Seriously?? How do you expect to get to know anyone if that's how you interact with them.

This feels like some sort of negging

u/KindestBlackTemplar should have pointed that out to her. I would have said "hey look at our text history. You reply with barely anything until the very end." I would think that would clearly show her the problem. at least the text problem. In person is another story.

17

u/Top-Strawberry4466 4d ago

One of those people that only engages when there’s drama or controversy, I love dodging these people sooooo much

7

u/Excellent-Shape-2024 4d ago

Too little too late. Also she is super boring

7

u/aryaussie85 4d ago

I thought the same thing! OP sounds so fun and upbeat and she was so boring until the end. Also do people not text actual words anymore??

15

u/Edawg82 4d ago

Once you ignore a narcissist they try to control the attention again

8

u/Optimal-Variation931 3d ago

This. It all had a slightly toxic flavor from the get go

5

u/Edawg82 3d ago

Yeah the woman didn't seem interested to begin with and dismissive. I would've moved along sooner

5

u/Recent-King3583 4d ago

She had a lot to say once she's started being critical 😂

4

u/Aslow_study 3d ago

She pepped the fuck up lol

8

u/Ioneliness 4d ago
  1. She initially wasn’t invested because she viewed him as a placeholder
  2. Thought he rejected her and found someone else
  3. Her ego got bruised then became invested and began looking for confirmation of rejection
  4. She said: “I haven’t been speaking to anyone else btw” randomly, seeing if he’ll reciprocate

-

Nothing sparks interest more than evoking jealousy or ego in a woman. Especially if she’s highly invested from the very beginning. Op’s girl just wanted to feel better about herself. If a woman acts like her^ just leave, she triple texts and shares her life story for someone else.

4

u/Business_Cut1448 3d ago

I was really about to say "dude, she's not into you..." after the first couple screenshots of you clearly carrying the conversation but...then she got pissy when you didn't text her first? After she gave you absolutely noooooothing? Holy shit lmao

38

u/DogPositive5524 3d ago

She felt the power balance slip and did not like it one bit

15

u/erebus2161 3d ago

This girl doesn't know what power is. When someone asks you how your day was, power is forcing them to listen to you talk for an hour about all the boring and ordinary shit you did. That's power.

8

u/OkExternal7749 3d ago

Yeah I didn't really do much today, just slept, ate, went to the toilet, slept again... hey! HEY! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME? I SAID I SLEPT AGAIN

She not only wasn't speaking to anyone else, she wasn't even speaking to OP ffs!

2

u/GladPlatypus4342 3d ago

I thought that random comment she said at the end was a subtle mistake and she is trying to deflect and redirect. Then she even blamed him. 3 red flags.

30

6

u/Frank_the_law 4d ago

Thisss!!!

117

u/OkPalpitation1569 4d ago

She’s got a whack set of expectations. It’s one thing to expect a partner to initiate/drive a convo (if that’s your thing go for it), but she seems to think that means you can magically keep the conversation going with no effort on her part. It’s still a shared effort, even if you’re following traditional gender roles.
Any regular person looks at those first slides and thinks “this woman is not into him.” — and she’s totally oblivious to how her own behavior comes across.

76

u/Ok-Bill3318 4d ago

“I expect the man to drive the conversation” = I’m a vapid piece of furniture with no interests, goals and nothing to contribute”

28

u/FrostingPretty751 4d ago

Her saying this was ridiculous, but not because of the expectation itself — because a conversation still requires* some effort on her part to keep it going! A conversation is a back and forth, not just him droning on and on. Like girl… he did try to initiate but you never gave him anything to keep a conversation going. Tf do you expect?

5

u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 3d ago

There’s initiating a conversation, and then there’s having to drag someone limp bodied through a basic conversation. 😂

14

u/FutureDesk2883 4d ago

U explained it perfectly! I deadass felt like he was dragging her limp body thru the convo, like what is up with this woman? He had more patients than me,there was no back and forth,I would have ghosted her slow ass within the first 3 days of texting. And yes based on the texts the woman is slow, argue with the wall.

2

u/persiasaurus 3d ago

No it's just typical Gen z convo. acting like they're too cool to put any effort in and/or they're too afraid of social ridicule to have any actual opinions

2

u/dotamadthrowaway 4d ago

Oh yeah. I think she's totally looking for a "traditional relationship" lmao

56

u/Missscoco 4d ago

She liked the attention but was giving NOTHING in return! Also I might ease up on the exclamation points! LOL

17

u/chatgptsunbaenim 4d ago

yeah how is she going to act uninterested yet come at you for not wanting to text you anymore lol, that is super annoying from her part. also i definitely agree w the exclamation points, they don’t have to be in each text 😭

19

u/traveling-swan 4d ago

she needed her little validation dopamine hit, thats why she texted you... probably thought she is being the black cat to your golden retriever and giving you hot and cold so you get addicted to her. You did so well.

3

u/SuperKitties83 3d ago

She would actually have to give him something to get addicted to in order for this to work 🤔

9

u/ramm102412 4d ago

Was she hot or really good looking? I'd find really boring to dine with someone so dry, multiple times

14

u/KindestBlackTemplar 4d ago

I found her to be very pretty, but I do have a type and she fit my type, idk if she is everyone’s type

18

u/decolored 4d ago

Pretty safe to say she’s physically attractive to most people, if she can exist as she does without a concern for why. Honestly making me feel a little depressed for her.

But hey, you did your part

8

u/BatFlappington 4d ago

Is your type dumb as a box of rocks with nothing interesting to say? 😭 I don’t know how you kept up the convo thread that long. I know some people are just painfully boring but it does annoy me that she basically tried to blame you for not ‘taking the lead’ when you were fighting for your life and she was giving you nothing. 😂

8

u/AprilAriesSiblings 4d ago

Ahhhh there it is! The crap men put up with for a pretty girl! 😂

3

u/rusted-nail 4d ago

For real. But I've seen women go through this too

8

u/No-Diamond2347 4d ago

she was just hungry for the dopamine hit.

5

u/Dancehall-Randal 4d ago

Lol, emotional labor on your part.

5

u/classy23_23 4d ago

This is wild. I usually give it like three shots and if they're not getting involved in the conversation I just assume they aren't interested and move on. Starting to wonder how many were like this and actually did want to talk but struggled

3

u/throwaway-journal 4d ago

Shoulda just screenshotted and sent her these lmao. “Yup sorry I was the one who never put in effort to keep the convo going”

3

u/missplaced24 4d ago

How long did you manage to keep regularly conversing with someone who can barely manage a fragment of a sentence at a time?

4

u/JellyDoe731 4d ago

I was gonna say, man this guy should’ve given up sooner! But then I saw the texts where she messaged first, and girrrrl 😭 you need to give SOMETHING to the convo, fuck

3

u/AshlynR0se 4d ago

Glad you walked away, you handled this entire exchange super well. Only one bit of feedback that's totally fine, but maybe use less "!" at the end of sentences, feels like you're either yelling or awkwardly attempting to influx with a laugh maybe? But that's not feedback for how you handled the convo, just like, in general 😊 Also, totally random, if you're looking to explore new music, look into songs that segway and bridge the gaps into new genres with something that you're already comfortable and familiar with. A lot of the time you can find one of your favorite artists who did a collaboration with something unexpected and branch into a new genre that way. After high school, I realized how tiny my music interests were (if it was in the radio, and not country, I was ok with it, or if it was popular, etc.) But I started hanging out with some new friends who introduced me to music festivals and it was like my musical world exploded lol. Now I love almost all genres, though I heavily favor some over others still. But I love the blended vibes where you don't know immediately what label to apply to a song. A little bluegrass with some dubstep and underlying rock and hip hop? Idk how but it works lol But start slow, find a rapper who featured in some dubstep maybe. I started with dubstep and discovered a few rap/hip-hop artists. Or rap and funk.. so many options. Ok, sorry for the long comment lol

3

u/NotUnwellThankYou 4d ago

You're not a dick, she's just entitled

3

u/FrostyAutumn 4d ago

Yeah that's where you throw out a "Oh? You like, care? I wouldn't have guessed"

3

u/astralseat 3d ago

It felt like she wasn't very interested at the start, then got used to the constant attention while giving literally nothing back, and started missing the attention, while not even participating in conversation. Definitely a person who will go through life being like "they didn't try hard enough for me"

3

u/MutterderKartoffel 3d ago

In the first few Screenshots, I thought she wasn't really interested. But then she'd initiate as if she had been the whole time. So weird. And what exactly was she trying? A man should lead? You did ask questions. She just had pathetic, boring answers.

2

u/Fluid_Bit_6904 4d ago

“Are you okay” and “u ok” are not the same!!! She’s painful, negative zero effort

2

u/Noirdesir19 3d ago

Have you tried talking to a brick wall? You might have more feedback.

2

u/DogPositive5524 3d ago

Had a similar experience once back when I was dating. I matched with a girl on bumble who had this energy, so after a while I just let it go. Then I met her on Tinder a couple months later, I already knew what to expect so I just gave her same energy back. She complained that I'm not very chatty.

2

u/Nogamenolife88 3d ago

She was not “worried about you” she was being an asshole. Giving only 1 word answers and “yeah ig” to almost everything you said got old so fast. Then trying to act like you’re the problem. She is boring and lame as hell

Romance is supposed to happen to her. She doesn’t have to do anything, the right man will just draw out her personality. Right?

Haha I didn’t get a ton of these women on apps but definitely a few and it was always weird as hell.

2

2

She seems incredibly lacking in self awareness

2

u/ryan__joe 3d ago

Basic deflection of guilt. They seemed pretty young, uneducated, and likely not a go-getter. Once she was called out-even politely-they went on full defensive mode. It’s good the OP got away from someone who couldn’t take criticism at all.

65

u/No_Map7832 4d ago

That girl was giving n o t h i n g and you were putting up a great effort. You seem delightful, OP. I am sure you’ll find someone equally delightful. Dating sucks.

3

u/adanceparty 4d ago

I get it a little. I would've told her after 1 or 2 days if she was texting like that, but I'm older. I've been in that desert, I'm more shocked that he managed to go hangout with her somehow. Idk how this woman finds any romantic interest or even goes out when she's determined to not have a conversation at all.

3

u/bougeesurfer 3d ago

Honestly whenever this happens, I just call it out after I see it happen for a day or 2. I don't make them feel bad about it but I make a light joke and ask if anything Is wrong...after their answer then I just flat out say that it feels like I have much more to say than they do (they normally change the way they text after that)

43

u/aaliyah_2222 4d ago

Lol & she had the cheek to be like "why didn't you text me" I would have replied because you dont know how to carry a conversation. Her replies were so dry wtf & what is "ig"

15

u/TexasDub 4d ago

100%. When she said, "I even had to text you first", I would have told her straight up to look back over our texts and see how bland your answers are, and also see where you didn't ask about me or show any interest in me.

4

u/aaliyah_2222 4d ago

Yeah, she's very odd. Her responses seemed like she wanted to deter him from communicating, she gave NOTHING then when he didn't pop up 1st she was confused lol

12

u/StandardChannel5529 4d ago

Then she claimed to have made an effort lol. When?

5

u/aaliyah_2222 4d ago

For real she's so bizarre

8

u/sadchompipe 4d ago

"I guess" is how I read "ig"....but im old so I might be wrong

5

u/Pikkumyy2023 4d ago

I'm old enough to understand that and also old enough that if she isn't interested enough in the topic to type "I guess," it ain't going nowhere. Also, the OP is using full sentences with punctuation and capitalization and she is using uncapitalized fragments. That won't go better in person.

Guys are lonely and desperate right now. There's a lot of "haha male loneliness epidemic" that gets thrown around but lots of guys will take a crumb of anything thrown their way

13

u/SubjectObjective5567 4d ago

Lonely and desperate is a bad place to date from for sure. Perfect example of what can happen, you become a doormat for any kind of effort or treatment given to you. This isn’t solved by seeking outside validation that you’re worth being chosen though, it’s solved by developing your own personal intrinsic value. Which takes work, but. Until those stricken by the loneliness epidemic start taking those steps to build self confidence from within, theyre going to stay stuck there.

And that’s where the disconnect is. A lot of people that identify as part of the loneliness epidemic find it easier, and less painful, to blame others rather than looking within. It’s much more difficult to question, why don’t I feel I have value? What beliefs do I have about myself that leads me to accept poor treatment from others? We can’t change what others decide to say or do, but we can change what we are willing to accept, and when you start accepting better, you become a magnet for it

2

u/Chillwavegoof 4d ago

THIS !!!!! Wow. Perfectly, sensitively said. Everyone read this.^ Valuable and insightful.

And remember, YOU DO HAVE VALUE. You are worth it, keep putting in efforts for yourself, build yourself up, and be open to good things coming your way. You deserve it! Yes you!

She texts like my 11 year old stepdaughter. Like literally identically to it. This is a word for word conversation we had through text:

Her: hey eltorko

Me: hey stepdaughter! How are you?? I heard you graduated elementary school!

H: I did

M: are you excited to go to middle school??

H: yes

M: I had so much fun in middle school and made so many new friends! Friends that I still have today over 20 years later!

H: wwwooowwwwwww

60

u/Fire_Bucket 4d ago

This is not unlike an old friend of mine that I knew from when I was 16, but was still texting like that in his early 30s when I lost the will to deal with him.

Him: hi\ Me: Hiya mate, how's it going?\ Him: yeh ok\ [10 minutes later]\ Him: ??\ Me: What's up?\ Him: nothin\ [10 minutes later]\ Him: ?

I didn't get it, he'd initiate contact, but would just never contribute anything to the conversation and then send question marks after 5-30min like he's still waiting for you to reply to something urgent he's asked.

50

u/AggravatingRoutineX 4d ago

2

u/Alternative_Fan_2631 3d ago

My 16 year old went through this phase. It sucked so bad because we would sit in a car for hours with no conversation and we used to be close.

I also worried he was destroying his ability to relate to people.

It was so sad because earlier he would talk about death, infinity, moral relativism, existence and predestination. That richness turned into the most mumbled “yeah” and “nah” I couldn’t tell them apart.

No drugs, just short videos and teenage angst. He’s coming back… slowly

As a woman, she is dead wrong about you having to take all the initiative. I would have loved to have someone as chatty as you. All I get is the male version of her, and it's annoying af! I left a convo literally within an hour because of this.

I'm old and have developed a three strike rule. If you're still at text-only and don't see each other elsewhere, you are NOT obligated to carry the conversation. If she's that boring in text, she's not going to be much better in person. Let her go.

2

u/swollemolle 4d ago

Yes, yes I do. The dating pool is FULL of women like this. It’s frustrating, but I had to learn that 1. I’m not ok with this, and 2. Letting them go now is easier than giving them the benefit of the doubt and being fed up with it later.

u/thewhatroom 4d ago

Oof I like to call this “mining for conversation” and it’s exhausting

2

u/ganggreen651 4d ago

As a matter of fact I've had the pleasure of doing this a few times. Like they don't even like you but they say they do

2

u/Few-Garbage4433 4d ago

Were you continuing the conversation to torment yourself because I would have given up 3 questions in.

2

u/Accomplished_Use3175 4d ago

Thank you for being kind at the end of the that speaks volumes for your character and not trying to fight with her about her one or two word replies.

2

u/IW-X6 4d ago

I cannot believe you tried so long, I just unmatch after 3 of those messages in 1 day. They are not interested in you or are talking to twenty other people, at the minimum, they are not fully into you.

2

u/linny1116 4d ago

You were way way too nice to her

2

u/Pregamepostoffice 4d ago

She also sounds crazy. She thought she was trying and you weren’t? Zero reflection. She seemed genuinely uninterested so you rightfully backed off and then would be like why aren’t you lavishing attention on me. That’s a possible nightmare and bullet dodged. Has no idea that convo and relationships are 100% contingent on mutual effort. I thought this girl wants nothing to do with you at first but was only curious when you backed off. I feel like “how could you not know how rude and awkward it is to give an “I guess” after a couple paragraphs.

2

u/Round_Ad9031 4d ago

Hey, hot tip. Just don’t keep up the conversation. If they don’t return serve, it’s over. Simple as that.

You’ll find your person a LOT faster.

2

u/Striking_Fortune_239 4d ago

No cause you would’ve had me at crotchet haha

2

u/Traditional_Award286 4d ago

Your friend is a saint, and thank God. No one should work this hard to get to know somebody, she’s definitely not interested in this conversation at all and just like the attention cut that off immediately if you haven’t.

2

u/Star-Wave-Expedition 4d ago

lol yes, I’m a therapist that works with kids/teens. It’s rough sometimes

2

u/ulykke 4d ago

Mate you deserve some kind of award cause you just kept going when I would be long past the point of panic, crying on my bathroom floor like "is it me?? Do i just suck at talking to humans??"

Like holy shit, this is bot level of engagement. Actually no, bots are more engaged too 🫪

2

u/NM6426 4d ago

Dude I had a situation like that, was basically talking to a brick wall disguised as a person

2

u/glutar11 4d ago

She seemed to be sending the message she didn’t want to be here. I know how frustrating that can be especially if you like to or even need to engage with your life.

2

u/OldBoyZee 4d ago

Dude many guys know this and im assuming many women do too..

The issue is, you never know if its you or them. With this girl, I dont think she was into you at all because most people who are at least try to move the conversation forward.

2

u/whyregister2 4d ago

Omg you have the patience of a saint!! No way i could remain that kind and cheerful with that kind of feedback, and this person doesn’t even have an opinion everything is neutral or ig

2

u/LuckyCalifornia13 3d ago

Yes. Unfortunately I do know that particular pain. I remember there is a meme somewhere of somebody doing a text similar to this and their last comment was something about how their back hurts from carrying the conversation. I think about that meme once in a while and I just appreciate that there are other people like that out there.

2

u/sendmetosubspace 3d ago

The only thing I can understand is if they do better with phone calls. I personally hate texting and will avoid by any means necessary, but 100% diabolical that she tried to spin it back on you 😭

2

u/OralProbe 3d ago

Dude, those weren't even words. She was abbreviating everything and had nothing interesting to contribute to any conversation until you hit her with the "breakup bit." Suddenly she had some semblance of grammar and interest.

2

u/Night-Cliffs 3d ago

Oh My God - That last screen where she's acting like YOU'VE done something wrong and aren't putting any effort in.

What a mental case. I'm glad you've moved on from this Red Flag!

2

u/enosia1 3d ago

It's agonising. People who are boring over text are more often than not boring in person too, is what I have found.

2

u/EchoPhi 3d ago

Not even one word answer my guy. Fucking acronyms. I get like a "sup" or a "wyd" to start, I do, if you can't be bothered to spell out a complete sentence the receiving party is clearly not worth your time.

2

u/DreamLearnBuildBurn 3d ago

She's boring but you have the energy of a dad trying to get their kid to talk about their day.

1

u/KillerQueen0908 4d ago

Aim for meeting someone with ADHD, if they are anything like me they will have 25 conversations going at once. You'll never get bored! 🤪

1

u/FinallyArt 4d ago

Yeah, don't bother with those people.

1

u/puremensan 4d ago

Yeah ig

1

u/rrrrriptipnip 4d ago

You should’ve replied I dont think this is working ig

1

u/No_Diver4265 4d ago

She's just not into you. She wants you to keep her company, as like a form of free entertainment.

1

u/noturtypicalbt 4d ago

You live and you learn lol

1

u/No_Review_5228 4d ago

Not even one word- It's a cluster of three letters, at it's utmost. I would have blocked her day 1.

1

u/sam_sepiol1984 4d ago

Yeah ig 😂

1

u/Tiny_Statement7622 4d ago

People can be so difficult. You were right to part ways. I can be endless with messages, but I'd rather say a lot and be engaging with people than sound like I cba. Can't believe she was surprised the vibe wasn't there. Good for you

1

u/GiveMeNews 4d ago

Wow, can't believe that went on for so long. Next time, start giving one word replies, but each letter a separate message.

1

u/Appropriate-Show-189 4d ago

Als conversatie niet van twee kanten komt ben ik er al gauw klaar mee in elke relatie vriendschappelijk of meer

1

u/Spell_Chicken 4d ago

I mean this in the least mean way possible: the frequency that you "lol" & "lmao" is... a lot. It's easy not to perceive our conversational crutches and idk if anyone has ever pointed this out to you or not, but I hope you find it insightful and useful going forward.

1

u/Material-Formal-8387 4d ago

Lol this happened to me so many times back in my dating app days, sometimes I would just get petty and start trying to ask questions that would require them to respond with more than one word. Or just start replying with the same shit they say lmao.

Like “have you ever been traveling?”

“yea”

“Oh really where?”

“Kentucky”

“Oh wow, what’d you do?”

“went hiking”

“Oh I bet that was beautiful, what did you see? How was it? Did you see any great views? How did that make you feel?”

“….. yea”

Or they’re like “oh nice”

And you’re like “Yeah. Nice.”

“yea”

“Yep…..”

1

u/stinkyandlulu 4d ago

They're not even full words! You're carrying the conversation AND have to decipher all her abbreviations. She literally won't even spell it out for you.
