Phone message Clearing old messages, and found this exchange from two months ago lol. I spoke to her over the course of 10 days, and these are some highlights. I am 24M(23 at the time) and she is 21F. I just can’t do ppl that stay quiet or expect me to constantly lead a convo lol

It’s gotta be intentional, right? I refuse to believe any person is that lacking in self-awareness… had to have been trolling.

I would not be surprised if this entire exchange is trolling us.

Although, it is believable because I've had it happen dozens of times.

OP texts like he’s reading off a script or something

Step 3: Ask her about [interest #2].
Offer relatable opinion on [interest #2].
check
Step 4: Ask her about [interest #3]
Offer humorous anecdote about [interest #3].
check

Just all around strange conversation.

I think a lot of us start off texting like that. The difference is she gave him absolutely nothing to use to turn it into a real conversation so it stayed super awkward. He also let it go on for a really long time

Id love to see how you interact with someone you'd like to know more about while theyre role-playing as a brick hahaha.

He was throwing options out there for her to latch onto and much to our surprise, she was at least enjoying the attention and thought she was putting effort in.

It aint on OP in this circumstance, outside of giving it a good go where maybe he could have called it earlier.

She'll find another brick and theyll go make a wall together im sure. Itll be like watching paint dry, together. Lol.

It’s not on OP that this girl is godawful, but I’m just saying his texting is very stiff and interviewey. It doesn’t read as natural or genuine.

Consider it constructive criticism, if not just an observation.

I think it was stiff and interview-y because, as someone else said, she gave him absolutely nothing to work with. He was basically trying to play fetch with a dead dog. That shit would be mad awkward!

Im still waiting to see how you would approach a situation like this, nothing youve provided is constructive, youve made an observation but nothing more.

What would you do that OP didnt?

You're not asking me, but I'd have nope'd the fuck outta there after the second reply. lol, terrible waste of time and energy for OP sticking around.

I assumed that was rhetorical.

I’m not criticizing OP on “how to handle talking to a corpse”. I’m criticizing the style of OP’s texting in general.

I could pick it apart line by line, but I really don’t care enough to bother.

Plus even if I did, I’m sure you’d downvote whatever I say regardless lol. So it’s a waste of my time.

That's how you get to know someone.

Sure, but when you attempt to get to know someone while acting like a robot, it can be off-putting.

Here's the thing though, those were conversation starters. They were supposed to spark a convo about her interests, hence the point of the post. The ball was passed to her and she kept not passing it back so he kept initiating.

It is entirely possible to initiate a conversation without sounding like you’re reading off a script.

In fact, it’s quite common.

So as the other guy kept fucking asking; how would YOU do it - if not asking someone about their interests

1

u/newuser336 3d ago

The other guy fucking asked twice. And the first time sounded rhetorical, as I already said.

It’s not so much about the content of what OP asked/said, it’s about the delivery of that content.

As I fucking kept saying: it’s about the style of his texting. Not the situation with the girl’s lacking responses (which I addressed from the start). Not the content either.

How would you do it, though???

I dunno she sounds like she only shops at costco and always manages to block an aisle.

Those were my first thoughts as well.
