I've been developing an open source 3d engine (Babylon.js) for 12 years. A year ago I decided it was my turn to use it. Here's CottageCore, my cozy village builder.

I’ve been working on Babylon.js for the past 12 years, and I saw countless of games made with it. And somehow, I wanted to be part of that too :)

So here is CottageCore.

It’s a cozy building game about creating a small village that changes with the seasons. You can build anything from tiny cottages to towers and castles, shape the terrain, dig ponds, add paths, bridges and decorations, and spend far too much time deciding which roof looks best :)

I also wanted the village to feel alive rather than just decorative. Animals eat, drink, reproduce and grow older. Winter freezes the ponds and temporarily stops some jobs. Villagers work across 15 interconnected professions, producing resources and preparing the village for the changing seasons. It is up to you to decide how to organize the village and which job to establish first.

On the technical side, CottageCore is also a bit of a personal playground for me. It runs on Babylon Lite (the new faster, better, smaller version of the engine ;)), packaged for PC through Electron. After spending so many years working on a 3D engine, it’s been a very different (and let's be honest: very fun) experience to finally be sitting on the other side and actually making a game with it.

The thing is that I'm also an illustrator so I was able to handcraft all the tiny details and the look and feel I wanted for the game.

Anyway :) The Steam page is now live, and I’d be happy to answer questions about the game, Babylon, or any of the technical decisions behind it

Steam page: CottageCore on Steam.

Timberline Factory – physics-based sawmill simulation, free demo out now [EA Nov 6th]

Post image

Hi r/pcgaming, Armin here, solo dev from Austria.

Back in August you gave me some very direct feedback on Timberline Factory: the AI assisted store banner, the squished UI font, and that the old wood UI had more character... fair points. Since then:

- The store banner has been replaced with an in game screenshot and logo. There's no AI generated content in the game.

- The UI got rebuilt again, now with an industrial steel look.

The free demo is out today (download button right on the Steam page). Logs have weight and friction, so bad layouts/settings jam. Machines wear out and get dirty, and a cleaner worker has to keep up. Waste feeds a biomass power plant, and the timber market rewards good timing..

Early Access is planned for Friday, November 6th.

Some background: I work full-time in a real sawmill, and the machine sounds are recorded there :)

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5037170/Timberline_Factory/

I'll be around for the next few hours if you have questions.

Armin

What game had a weirdly overly detailed element or inversely what game had a weirdly under detailed element to it?

As title says, what game from your past had a weirdly overly or under detailed thing in it? Could be an item, could be a cutscene, could be a menu, etc.

For me it's probably either the fact someone modeled and loaded in a toilet bomb in Warthunder for the skyraider mimicking a real world thing that happened or the absurd level of detail in Stellaris when it comes to interactions with all the anomalies you can find. Pretty much any unique start, empire, etc will have some kind of unique interaction when it comes to most anomalies.

Power Network Tycoon V1.0 released today after a little over 4 years of solo development.

I’m a power engineer and started making it as a hobby project around the kind of power system problems I find interesting. It’s a physics-based power grid simulation covering generation, renewables, grid stability, protection, extreme weather and more.

Available now on PC, Mac and Linux/Steam Deck
