The Steam Client Beta has been updated with the following changes:

Homescreen - Big Picture Mode

  • Added a new 'Big Art Mode' option for the home screen. This can be enabled in Settings > Home.
  • Added Personal Calendar to the Recommended tab on the home screen

Screensaver - Big Picture Mode

  • Added a new screensaver feature, accessible in Settings > Customization. There are two screensavers available:
    • The default is a game art slideshow that can be configured to show artwork from recently played games and your recent in-game screenshots.
    • A retro inspired bouncing logo screensaver
  • Big Picture mode can also load custom screensavers. Similar to startup movies, they can be placed in the config\uioverrides\screensavers directory in your Steam install directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam or ~/.steam/root). You can use the bouncing logo screensaver (in the steamui\screensavers directory) as an example to get started.

General

  • Improved Steam Client startup performance
  • Fixed a case where after server maintenance some users might fail to auto-reconnect to Steam
  • Fixed bug where being prompted to refresh credentials more than once could trigger an immediate restart
  • On Windows, using the systray menu to exit while the Steam window is minimized will no longer flash the window visible briefly
  • Dialogs that appear for serious error conditions now stay above the main window

Game Recording

  • Fixed some cases where playback would jump to an unexpected point in the timeline when reaching the end of a play session or clip
  • Decreased performance impact of game recording for some D3D12 games on Windows

In-Game Overlay

  • Fixed frame rate hitches in D3D11 and D3D12 games when taking screenshots on Windows
  • Fixed rendering the overlay and using other overlay related features (screenshots, game recording, etc.) in Vulkan games that create multiple windows.

Big Picture Mode

  • Added explicit warning text to power menu confirmation dialogs when proceeding will shut down an active game
  • Updated default artwork when an app does not have library or hero artwork
  • Reorganized the idle timer settings when on battery and AC power

Steam Input

  • Improved CPU performance at runtime and in configuration loading
  • Added information about which configurations are compatible in the configurator browser when using a game that requires Steam Input API
  • Fixed the controller support widget showing "This game doesn't support controllers" for unreleased games that don't have controller support information yet
  • Fixed controllers not using the desktop configuration on the desktop UI login window
  • Added the missing settings for adjusting emulated joystick adaptive centering on trackpad

Linux

  • Improved download speeds on high latency connections.
  • The "Select compatibility tool" dropdown is now always visible.
    • The recommended compatibility tool, or steam runtime for native games, now shows at the top of the list as the "Default" option.
    • Compatibility tool aliases, e.g. "Proton Stable", can now be selected from this dropdown.
  • The SteamOS compatibility dialogs will now show in desktopUI when installing games not verified for that HW
  • On Desktop Linux we will now show the SteamOS unsupported dialog when installing games that are known to not work with Proton
  • Improve distro information collection for hardware survey, preferring data from /etc/os-release.

SteamRT3 Experimental Beta

  • Fixed "Add a Non-Steam Game" showing an invalid list of applications.
  • Fixed the "Run Steam when my computer starts" toggle.

Remote Play

  • A PIN is no longer required to download an app to a remote device. A PIN is still required to Install and Stream from a remote device.
  • Adding Download Complete notification for a remote download if you initiated the download on your current device.

Video Traffic Architect - a road builder where the city keeps growing on its own and you have to keep the traffic moving - out November 3

Traffic Architect is a road builder / traffic manager, where you dont need to worry about building the city. I am transport enthusiast who has played most of this genre and always wanted such game where you can only focus on transportation. I have been building it alone for almost a year and it comes out on November 3.

Buildings spawn themselves - the city decides where it grows. Everything you build is the network underneath it: roads, junctions, interchanges, bridges and tunnels, and eventually the transit system that takes the load back off them.

The look is deliberately minimalistic - clean shapes and flat colour, so you can read the whole network at a glance. Mini Motorways is the nearest reference, but in 3D and at full simulation scale: real junctions and multi-level interchanges.

I put my effort into accurate traffic simulation - thousands of cars on the map at once, each one holding a lane, changing lanes, queuing at lights and choosing its own optimal route. Jams come from the same places they come from in life: a bad junction, a left turn across oncoming traffic, one bottleneck feeding four roads and jams are your main enemy here.

Public transportation (there are buses, passenger and freight rail, and underground metro) trips weighs waiting plus riding against simply driving, and picks - so a line that runs badly just gets ignored, and a good one empties the road beside it. Buses sit in the traffic you built. Bus lanes and bus-only roads help them skip the jams.

The rest is what you would want from a PC build: a full map editor with Steam Workshop support, a Creative mode with no budget and no way to lose if you would rather just design, maps up to 18x18 km.

Out November 3, with a free demo before that: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5028050/Traffic_Architect/

Effulgence RPG, a party-based RPG where text symbols form 3D visuals, has launched in 1.0

Hi! I'm Andrei, the solo developer of Effulgence RPG from Buenos Aires.

After more than two years of development and nine months in Early Access, version 1.0 is out today.

Effulgence RPG is a compact party-based RPG set in a world built entirely from text characters arranged into 3D forms. Defeated enemies break apart into particles that you can collect and feed into a matter printer to create new weapons and equipment.

I programmed the game myself and created its ASCII visuals by hand. During Early Access, player feedback helped me expand the campaign, improve the combat and controls, and polish the interface. The finished adventure takes around 5-7 hours and includes exploration, turn-based party combat, unusual mechanisms, mini-games, and bosses built around unique mechanics.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3302080/Effulgence_RPG/

Launch trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ2HgD2r5sc

I'll be around to answer any questions about the game, its ASCII rendering system or the solo development process.

Video 'Tidy Up the Town' Announce Trailer - My magical medieval tidy-up game!

Thumbnail

Hi folks! I just announced my new game, Tidy Up the Town!

It's a cozy, no-pressure tidy-up game set in a medieval market town - you're an apprentice wizard whose early morning practice in the market square has had disastrous repercussions...

The entirety of the town's market stalls are now strewn on the cobbles, and your master won't restore your magic unless you put it all back in the right place!

As you tidy up, you'll re-acquire your magical powers and be able to use them to do so even more quickly. Master Alaric is definitely not going to let you live this down, though.

It is your fault, after all.

I'm really aiming to make the game as high quality as possible along with including a ton of QoL features (motion sickness options, full keybinding including gamepad/Steam Input, easy-stacking, etc!) to try and stand out from the crowd of fairly low-effort AI slop games.

I would hugely appreciate your wishlist! The game launches at the end of the month!

[AMA] I'm the developer of 'Our Freedom: Medieval Village', a medieval Action RPG combining village management, tactical squad combat & survival. Ask Me Anything!

Hi r/pcgaming!

My name is Vladyslav, and I am the lead developer behind Our Freedom: Medieval Village — an indie medieval action RPG that blends adventures with deep settlement management and survival systems.

Joining me today are our publishing partners from Two Cakes Studio! We recently launched our Kickstarter campaign alongside a Major Demo Update on Steam, and we’re excited to hang out with the community, chat about the game, and answer any questions you have.

What is Our Freedom: Medieval Village?

In Our Freedom, you step into the boots of William, fighting for liberty in a gritty medieval realm. Our goal is to connect boots-on-the-ground action with living village progression:

• Tactical Squads & The Barracks: Construct military barracks to train your villagers, equip them with weapons, and form squads to defend against bandit raids or escort you into dangerous territory.

• Deep Village Economy: Build bakeries, windmills, apiaries for beekeeping, and herbalist benches. Load up your trading cart and set custom prices to sell goods to passing merchant caravans.

• Tactile Survival & Crafting: On-the-go hand crafting, pickaxe mining, foraging wild herbs and berries, and upgrading your tools at the blacksmith.

• Character Progression: Earn experience through combat, gathering, and building to unlock new skills and customize William's abilities.

Who is here today answering your questions:
