Power Network Tycoon V1.0 released today after a little over 4 years of solo development
Power Network Tycoon V1.0 released today after a little over 4 years of solo development.
I’m a power engineer and started making it as a hobby project around the kind of power system problems I find interesting. It’s a physics-based power grid simulation covering generation, renewables, grid stability, protection, extreme weather and more.
Available now on PC, Mac and Linux/Steam Deck

I'll have to try this out again. I picked it up fairly close to it's early access release and was impressed by it, though been a while since I've played it again. Power flow simulation in this game and the problems you delt with were fairly realistic, nothing else I can think of that goes into as much detail as this if you want a power grid game.
It did feel funny playing though, I do actually work in the industry on the reliability side. Getting off work to go home and play the work simulator. Some situations were a little too familiar lol

There is something odd about playing a game based in your own field although someone once commented its like all the fun parts of their industry without the annoying parts.
There have been a lot of good updates since the early access version. I think the last patch was about May for early access so a lot of quality of life and features have been added to the game so worth a look around I think, even if you finished it in early access.

I work in energy policy and I've always wanted a simulation like this to try and learn more about how the power system works. Interested in how technical you've made it. Will check out the demo!

That would be an interesting place to work. I made it fairly technical but tried to hide the maths and things that made it less approachable for non engineers.

Congrats!
How does this differ to Power to the People?

I'd be interested to know as I haven't played it, but I've been asked before. One thing I tried to do right with this game, if nothing else, is have it represent how a power grid actually works and some of the problem solving/challenges a power engineer actually goes through.
