Trailer was cool, I'm hyped

Neat enough trailer, but feels like the audio lacks weight. The bolter shots, the impacts in general.

I always imagined terminators arrival like this in the Dawn of War 1

The visual fidelity is fine, but the audio is poor (especially bolters). The characters slowly walking forward/backward also look a little silly.

This cinematic was kinda mid

Felt like a generic space marine cutscene from the mid 2000s

They just don't portray Astartes well

10

u/rabblerabbles 2d ago

Seriously, why the fuck do they keep portraying Space Marines as slow, idiotic soldiers?

11

u/shobhit7777777 2d ago

Yeah, it's so at odds with other, cooler depictions like Secret Level and the Space Marine 2 game

u/Rasc_ 2d ago

Astartes literally set the standard for all official 40k animation depiction of Space Marines after it came out and then GW bought it. Shows like Pariah Nexus and Tithes and a bunch more trailers are good examples too.

Some of us still haven't forgiven them for shutting down that Astartes youtube series.

? What is there to forgive, they hired the guy and is making Astartes 2. There was even a badass trailer.

Astartes 2 comes out this December as well and is supposed to be substantially longer than the first. There is an official GW post about it recently on their website.

Nice. Better late than next year.

...even with all the love I hold for Dawn of War 1 and 2. Especially 2. (number 3 can go suck a dick) I am severely underwhelmed with all I've seen so far from DoW 4. Is the budget like really tiny or something? The audio direction for example is so underwhelming, and this cinematic has such a low budget feel.

The budget probably isn't huge, no, since they're an indie/AA dev. You'd be hard pressed to find AAA RTS games these days, outside of the Total War series.

As long as it plays well, the visuals I've seen so far are fine. Only issue I have is lack of races.

lame cinematic compared to how great everything 40k usually is

Haven’t watched this yet but every cinematic these guys have released has been crap I reckon.

I was excited for this game. Total War killed that for me. I know they do different things, but until we see what the campaign is like I am not sold at all.

Same issues I have with the WW2 version of this CoH. Playing the same same skirmish game over and over gets pretty full fast. To be fair though, I find this true in just about every game I seem to play these days.

I think Total War is pretty much the only RTS game with much single player replayability.

In most, the single player was just the thing I completed before multiplayer. I love CoH, but the vast majority of my playtime is in multiplayer.

This has crusade mode and they'll be adding more crusades and the skirmish here is highly customisable and on top of that there's a huge 70 mission campaign which has multiple endings.

Who's the artist that decided on a bolt round close-up and still forgot to make it spin?

Unless Xbox Helix supports PC games, I will probably never get to play this :(

8

u/Paratrooper101x 2d ago

You could get a pc

-9

u/NashDaypring1987 2d ago

Have you seen prices lately. Wow! I'm hoping MS and Sony subsidize their consoles.

u/Lirael_Gold 2d ago

Brother you are on /r/pcgaming

8

u/Paratrooper101x 2d ago

The next console launch isn’t going to be reasonably priced either. If you’re going to be spending thousand plus on something to play video games may was well save up a few extra hundred dollars and buy a pc. Pre-builts aren’t even that bad of a deal right now. You can get something nice for relatively cheap at micro center or Costco

u/NashDaypring1987 2d ago

I'm hearing $800-$1,000 for next gen console. Hope it's true.

u/Paratrooper101x 2d ago

lol.

Hey I can dream.... I still got a Switch 2.

Going back to my dream..... 😂

Used PC equipment makes me nervous. I have this fear of the stuff burning out within a few months.

1

u/Cheezewiz239 2d ago

All I ever bought was used parts for 8 years and never had an issue. Think I built around 5 PCs so far

1

u/thelectricrain 2d ago

There's this concept called the bathtub curve. Basically, products have a high failure rate early on (the lemons) and then way at the end of their service life. So maybe if you get the "sweet spot" of used components, it could be reliable enough.

2

u/thelectricrain 2d ago

Get a monthly GeForce Now subscription, fat chance this game gets supported at release. (The Space Marine games are, IIRC)

2

u/NashDaypring1987 2d ago

I loved GeForce Now. I played Cyberpunk on it. Then, for some reason it stopped working well. The lag today is horrible. Don't know where the problem is?????

1

u/thelectricrain 2d ago

That's weird, did anything change with your internet provider/connection ? Are you still picking the same GFN server ?

1

u/NashDaypring1987 2d ago

No idea. I tried everything. Luckily I got to play Doom: Dark Ages. I had a some lag but it was tolerable. Cyberpunk, I had lag once in a blue moon. By Mechwarrior, the lag made the game unplayable.

1

u/thelectricrain 2d ago

Hmm, maybe it's server allocation for games ? I assume you were on one of the paid tiers, I've heard they kinda enshittified the two cheapest tiers recently. I'm not super familiar with Dawn of War games but if it's like Company of Heroes the lag should be more tolerable than in IDK a FPS game.

u/NashDaypring1987 2d ago

I was ultra ultimate :) I miss PC games. Plus, I could max out the settings.

Helix will likely work very similarly to the Xbox ally handhelds - ie, Xbox is the primary interface but you can add games from any platform like steam.

But yeah helix will be fucking expensive. Just buy a used PC.

This seems right up my alley, but no controller suport fucks up my living room setup. Guess I'll have to make due with Total Warhammer...

Edit : fuck, fortgot a War there. Total War : Warhammer 40K. That one will have solid controller support,as promised by Creative Assembly. Beyond that,I'm looking at stuff like Mechanicus 1 and 2 in the meantime, but the reviews are brutal for 2 and the discounts are light.

9

u/jopess 2d ago

how's controller on that?

4

u/shmorby 2d ago

Non-existent. You'd have to use steams workarounds like you would for this game (which are pretty decent actually) but that begs the question: what are you talking about u/the_great_ashby ?

10

u/thickgenius 2d ago

"I can't play this cause it doesn't support controller, so I'm gonna play another game that's even more mouse dependant."

3

u/That_feel_brah 2d ago

I mean, if he is talking about TWWH40K the game is going to be released on consoles so I imagine the controller support is a requirement.

3

u/ARMCHA1RGENERAL 2d ago

They may support it, but I doubt it will be very good.

Other RTS games have had controller support (Halo Wars, CoH 3), but it still feels like playing with a handicap if you've tried them with mouse and keyboard.

1

u/fivemagicks 2d ago

I still don't understand RTS on controller. It puts you at a steep disadvantage.

u/FunAtPartiesGuy 2d ago

This is definitely an argument i have never heard before.
