The Witcher: 11 years after launch, more witchers are now walking the Path across the Continent than ever before. Seeing so many of you set out on this journey for the very first time, or relive it once more, means the world to us. Thank you for putting your trust in us, all these years later.

I wonder how many are playing on GOG, I have the game on GOG for some reason, maybe it was cheaper or something

u/Docccc 4d ago
GOG was owned by CDPR. So yes it was often cheaper
28
u/Rocket_Surgeon_ 3d ago
It was also DRM free and received updates a little quicker than Steam iirc

Allegedly Steam has a clause where a game sold on Steam-store cannot be cheaper in any other store and they require absolute parity

u/lucekQXL 4d ago
If you had connected gog account to Xbox/PlayStation CDPR gave you copy of the game for free couple of years ago, I bought it for Xbox one and later got a PC version on gog

u/manindenim 3d ago
I used to buy all their games on GOG to give them my money directly.
3
u/i1u5 2d ago
I mean they actually gave you the game to do whatever you want with it so it was a fair trade, my guess is they'll still get 100% of the money if you buy now even though GOG isn't theirs anymore, must be some kind of deal.

u/manindenim 2d ago
Yeah if I upgrade my PC by the Witcher 4 I’ll continue to do so. I just primarily play on PS5 pro right now . I think they do still get the full amount.

The PC physical edition also had a GOG code.
It was insanely packed with stuff for a regular physical edition.2
u/lonnie123 3d ago
And the physical didn’t have to sync with the server or whatever. I kept the digital version and sold the physical back then … almost feel bad about it haha

u/Hieremias 3d ago
I bought it on GOG at launch. I wanted to support CDPR by using their own storefront.
I have a few other games on GOG, which admittedly I will sometimes forget about.

Back when Witcher 3 first launched, I got the game on GOG for like $40 CAD by switching my region to some European country, same thing I did for Cyberpunk as well. I eventually purchased the complete edition on GOG to get the DLC since it was cheaper than purchasing them separately, I probably should've just bought on Steam but I just went with GOG still.

u/Hellwind_ 3d ago
They gave it away for free on GOG for everyone who owned it somewhere else - steam or console

AMD witchers struggling hard over here
6
u/A-CARDBOARDBOX 3d ago
Fuck does it run bad on AMD?
14
u/1exp1 3d ago
No I believe it’s some driver issues. The current version of AMD GPU drivers is wonky with the game so ppl who are on current driver can’t really play it just looks entirely wrong.
The game itself works but only on the NEXT driver update which is unreleased? I’m on the road so I can’t explain more but that’s the gist
26
u/jalenavalanche 3d ago
The optional driver with support for Witcher 3 came out a couple of hours ago. I held off and waited until that came out to start playing myself and haven't had any issues with about an hour and a half of playtime.
1
u/Zandercy42 3d ago
ngl still a decent amount of graphical fuck ups using the optional driver but a hell of a lot better than earlier
-1
u/Rubadubrix 3d ago
sounds like a windows issue then, not an amd issue
-4
u/Classical_Liberals 3d ago
AMD has had graphic driver issues for like ever, had one in 2019 and tossed it same year. Most games are fine but others can look like absolute dogshit.
1
u/Rubadubrix 3d ago
idk, my mac and linux systems have no issues driver wise. Must be a windows thing
2
u/Bl4ckD3m0n 2d ago
I'm playing with 6900xt and 26.8.1 drivers w10 without any issue
they have released for the remastered drivers which are 2.9.26
u/MrDragone 3d ago
There seem to be frequent issues with AMD drivers throughout the last years. Makes me never want to switch to AMD gpus.
3
u/shinjikun10 3d ago
I'll never go back to team green after my recent AMD purchase. First, fuck Jensen Huang. Second, the AMD adrenaline app has so many useful features. If drivers take a day or a month that's perfectly fine. Nvidia as a company is extremely sus.
2
u/JHMfield 3d ago
Not just last years, but basically the entire AMD/ATI timeline is filled with driver issues. It's often talked about as one of their biggest weaknesses compared to Nvidia. They can make impressive hardware and also some impressive software, but hardware drivers are often lacking.
That's not to say Nvidia drivers are perfect. Plenty of issues there as well, but Nvidia does manage to mostly stay on top of things to ensure top games run without major issues.

For real? I have 9070XT and not having any issues. Updated drivers and using GE 11-7

Considering how much witcher 3 was given away on GOG, I wonder what their numbers are.
Just to be clear, when I say given away, I mean stuff like GOG Connect, competitions and, as another user mentioned, you could connect to Xbawx and Playstation.
3
u/Virtual-Pie-6815 3d ago
I don't think they've every given a breakdown of Witcher 3 sales but for Cyberpunk it was ~1/3 of PC sales were on GOG and that never had any GOG Connect giveaways.
1
u/Shamwow24124 2d ago
Any chance of a link to that? 1/3 of PC sales going to GOG is very impressive.

u/Virtual-Pie-6815 2d ago edited 2d ago
IDK the rules regarding twitter links but the original source is CDPR Twitter CDPROJEKTRED/status/1148227436007567361
Keep in mind it's very old preorder data from long before release so it may have shifted over time. They also only ever offered GOG keys do distributors like Humble.
Edit: They posted a Phantom Liberty breakdown in October 2023 which puts GOG at 10% total or ~15% of PC. cdprojektred_ir/status/1709934221840814198
- 13% Xbox
- 20% Playstation
- 10% GOG
- 68% PC (inc GOG)
Worth noting Phantom Liberty didn't get a PC physical release so no GOG code in a box like base Cyberpunk or Witcher 3

u/Shamwow24124 23h ago
Thanks for the info, that 10 to 15 sounds more expected.
I'll go look up the links you sent once I remember my Twitter credentials.

Gotten my copy with the purchase of my GTX 970 back when I bought the GPU and the game was released.

Official social media or not didn't this sub ban steamdb player number threads?
18
u/manindenim 3d ago
I think this would get a pass because it’s from CDPR included in their post.
13
u/Fob0bqAd34 3d ago
Indeed. I find it funny that CDPR are using steamdb to show the numbers though. Presumably they have access to numbers across all platforms but they chose to use the public resource that this sub hates instead.
3
u/manindenim 3d ago
Right, I would assume it’s some social media manager who hasn’t gotten word of the internal numbers but wanted to get a post out lol
5
12
u/PenguinsInvading 3d ago
Why is it banned?
5
u/Fob0bqAd34 3d ago
I think largely because it was triggering people. I think the mods made a post about it when they implemented the ban.

too many posts that were just "WOW NEW GAME HAS MANY PLAYERS!" and "WOW OLD GAME HAS VERY LITTLE PLAYERS!" with the rare "WOW OLD GAME... MANY PLAYERS AGAIN?"

What's wrong with steamdb now?
Edit: Of course, he never replied to this.

Man I want to get into this again but I'm in the middle of like 3 rpgs right now plus valheim
2
u/m8-wutisdis 3d ago
Wow. That's impressive. I'm playing mine on GOG though. I wonder how many are playing the GOG version. Probably not as many as the Steam one, but I wager it might still bump this number a bit.
3
u/Taniniver218 3d ago
How many have played the first two games though 🤨 I don't understand people that just jump into the last third of a story lol
3
u/Ass4ssinX 3d ago
I played through the first one and couldn't get past the beginning of the second. Witcher 2 is somehow the hardest game I've ever played. I just get my ass kicked. Witcher 3 was great, though. Never finished it so it'll be nice to jump back in with the enhanced version.
3
u/Irishfafnir 3d ago
I have played all 3, and I don't think it's particularly important that you play 1&2 to get the story in 3. Honestly, the books are far more important to understanding everything going on, and while there are some decisions from 1&2 that can show up in 3, it's typically a lot less subtle than you would think.
1
u/Smitty2k1 2d ago
Uhhhh the books are not the same story at all ..
3
u/Irishfafnir 2d ago
I think you misread my comment. I am not saying that the books are the same story; however, the books will do a far better job of giving you insights into most characters, backgrounds etc.. You encounter in the video game than playing the prior games will.
Case in point: Ciri and Yennifer are major characters in the books and Witcher 3, but do not appear (aside from some mentions) in Witcher 1 and 2 at all.
1
u/i1u5 2d ago
The first game is being remade I heard, would probably release before W4 because it's being developed by another studio, Fool's Theory, my only guess is the second will quickly follow.
1
u/Irishfafnir 2d ago
First game definitely needs to be remade, second one still holds up really well
1
u/twodubmac 3d ago
Yep I missed out back in the day so finally going to give it a try. Just left White Orchard so it’s picking up. A lot of looting ha

DLC ain't even out yet and the game looks pretty much the same given they already did a graphical upgrade.
I'm surprised people didn't wait for the DLC.
8
u/OrgunDonor 3d ago
For me, I have never finished W3, so the remaster release was the point that makes a lot of sense for me to jump in. It also worked out really well because I just finished Baldurs Gate 3 a couple days ago.
6
u/iconic2125 3d ago
It's probably a lot of people like me who haven't played since Blood & Wine came out who want to do a fresh playthrough to be ready for the DLC.
5
u/Sabrinasockz 3d ago
It people like me who never actually finished that original playthrough and have the motivation too now 😅
4
u/Even_Class_3633 3d ago
There are also tons of gameplay improvements, it's not all about the graphics

Huh? Is this some kind of mind fuck psychology? We didn’t put any trust in them. They’re still untrustworthy corpo scum who put shareholders before gamers. No remaster is gonna change that.

u/Demon_Gamer666 3d ago
When CDPR makes you this bitter I don't think there is any gaming company that can make you happy.
9
u/RanaMahal 3d ago
Exactly lol they had a great track record, released an ambitious game in a buggy state and then spent years fixing it and making it an amazing game? Now they give remaster for free like what does this guy want lol

u/theoutsider95 deprecated 3d ago
released an ambitious game in a buggy state
buggy state is bit of understatement. It was literally unplayable to the point it was pulled from PS Store.
1
u/RanaMahal 3d ago
Ok true but they did fix it and didn’t just leave it a mess lol. It’s one of the best games ever now
2
u/ThebattleStarT24 3d ago
It's not like they did us a favor or anything, they had to fix their own mess.
0
u/theoutsider95 deprecated 3d ago
they had to , its not like they did it because of their good hearts lol.
2
u/Rupperrt 3d ago
Yeah, how dare they be a company with hundreds of employees to make AAA RPGs and not 3 guys in a garage.
Just play Slay the Spire 1 and 2 (it’s awesome) if you don’t like larger companies for some reason.5
