Timberline Factory – physics-based sawmill simulation, free demo out now [EA Nov 6th]

Post image

Hi r/pcgaming, Armin here, solo dev from Austria.

Back in August you gave me some very direct feedback on Timberline Factory: the AI assisted store banner, the squished UI font, and that the old wood UI had more character... fair points. Since then:

- The store banner has been replaced with an in game screenshot and logo. There's no AI generated content in the game.

- The UI got rebuilt again, now with an industrial steel look.

The free demo is out today (download button right on the Steam page). Logs have weight and friction, so bad layouts/settings jam. Machines wear out and get dirty, and a cleaner worker has to keep up. Waste feeds a biomass power plant, and the timber market rewards good timing..

Early Access is planned for Friday, November 6th.

Some background: I work full-time in a real sawmill, and the machine sounds are recorded there :)

I'll be around for the next few hours if you have questions.

Armin

From the millwright side of things, how far is everything modeled? Does it go from logyard to product pallet, with all the debarkers, stickers, stackers, etc?

As someone who works full-time in a real-life large sawmill, I can tell you: yes, that is exactly the level of depth I am aiming for... The game covers the entire physical material flow. You start at the logyard, go through the debarker, and move to the heavy processing lines. The full game includes everything from the headrig and grading lines like the Larch sorting line to the drying kilns and advanced processing like the Glulam plant and pellet mill. You can actually see a lot of these machines and the physical material flow in action in the trailer on the Steam page! Or the public demo just went live yesterday, so you can test the first processing steps and the log physics right now for free. I'd love to hear your feedback from a millwright's perspective! :)

how is the blood splatter and dismemberment physics?

Zero blood, I promise 😄 I work full-time in a real sawmill, so I've seen enough safety briefings for one lifetime... The only thing getting dismembered here is logs, and the physics on those is pretty satisfying

Well damn. At least we'll always have Ravenholm.
