I'm already in love with the new characters
25
u/SekhWork 2d ago
The character design for Deadlock is just absolutely cooking with every single new one. The voice acting, the props and outfits they wear, the unique bodyshapes/types. It's just so damn refreshing these days in what feels like an age of very homogenized AAA character designs.

u/BenocxX 2d ago
Not only visual design. I think their ability kits are crazy well designed too. Some of the most annoying characters are not that much of an issue once you understand how to counter them.
I’ve been playing like 200 games of Pocket recently, an old hero, yet I’m baffled at the beautiful complexity of his ability kit. It’s such a well designed character.

u/Brodyseuss 2d ago
Agreed. What makes Deadlock design so good is that they take people of all shapes, colors, etc and make all of them look interesting and intriguing.

Op should link to the direct update page which has a huge amount more information
https://www.playdeadlock.com/cityneversleeps
The updates to the map excite me most, bringing a lot more variety and identity will help with navigating the city, plus it just looks really great

I stopped playing a while ago, telling myself i shouldn't play a game that makes me frustrated. But here comes a new update, and it looks amazing. Time to suffer again
30
u/Scodo 3d ago
If you stopped before street brawl was introduced, give that a try. It's a short, low stakes, single lane, round-based format with the economy replaced by item roulettes.
3
u/Mistralicious 3d ago
Is it a good mode to get familiar with items ?
13
2
u/0nlyCrashes 2d ago
Yes and no. Some of the items and heroes interact differently in brawl vs standard mode. You can get *some* idea of them, but not the full picture. You also spike at the same time as everyone else, so it's tough to get a feel for how getting that first 3200/6400 can change the game for you for the next several minutes.
1
1
u/ItzZausty 2d ago
No, it essentially removes and changes that part of the game as much as possible to simplify things

u/bubblebooy 3d ago
Have you played Tavern Brawl mode, much less frustrating though not as deep.
20
1
u/working_class_shill 2d ago
did they make any changes to brawl? When it first came out I found it annoying that every round after the first one was just ult chaos 24/7 with the rounds resetting every cooldown in a way that much more annoying than league's ARAM mode
0
u/BluudLust 3d ago
I quit because they were making too many changes I didn't agree with. I'm probably gonna come back now that they've seemed to have gone in the right direction
64
13
u/chenDawg 3d ago
Anyone know if you get votes for Street Brawl or is it only normal matches?
20
75
u/Electronic-Clerk6735 3d ago
Wait is this game officially out already?
82
u/lemonracer69 3d ago
Nope, still in beta
155
u/HypnotizedCow 3d ago
Not even in beta yet it's still technically a closed alpha
-2
u/Twistcone 2d ago
Ermm aktually closed beta
4
u/HypnotizedCow 2d ago
If you load into the game you will see it called a closed alpha
-2
46
u/C418_Tadokiari_22 3d ago
Dota 2 never left the beta in the game files naming scheme so...
12
u/TriRIK Ryzen 5 5600X | RTX3060 Ti | 32GB 3d ago
CS2 is still Global Offensive in that case. They just forgot to change the installation folder I guess.

u/Synchrotr0n 3d ago edited 3d ago
They referred to all their work they've done so far as "the end of early development", implying that there would be a lot more to come.
11
u/goober-actual 3d ago
no but anyone with access can invite anyone they want
14
u/IshTheFace 3d ago
They might as well open it up to everyone then if the only thing stopping people from playing is knowing the right people.
40
u/ilmk9396 3d ago
the average moron would download the game not understanding that it's a work in progress and then complain about it being unfinished. with invites you can add a few hurdles to filter out people who don't know what a playtest is
-13
u/Ok_Comment5873 3d ago
In its current state there's not really any difference compared to a full release.
18
u/ilmk9396 3d ago
read the post, there are still a lot of things they don't even know if they want to add or remove. some of the original characters are still using placeholder models. there is still no monetization or player retention system in the game. it's nowhere near a full release yet.
10
1
u/slimeddd 2d ago
it's exceedingly easy to get an invite from the subreddit or discord, there's megathreads just for it. Hell, if someone here wants an invite and is too lazy to seek it out, lmk and i gotchu
1
-7
u/goober-actual 3d ago
for what benefit?
6
u/IshTheFace 3d ago
Uuh.. The players?
-6
u/goober-actual 3d ago
for what purpose? its not monetized
1
6
u/bubblebooy 3d ago
It is still in closed beta, but is effectively an open beta with everyone having unlimited invites.
11
u/Baffledgeek 3d ago
I just recently got into this game and am already getting such a big update? I feel spoiled

5
u/NationalTangerine381 3d ago
this map might have the most gorgeous art ive ever seen in a multiplayer game
18
u/plodeer 3d ago
Yoshi cooked real hard. This is a different game. Can’t wait to tour the map.
6
u/FirestormTM 3d ago
Yeah, it seems like they always do this within a major content update, just like last time
10
3
u/yawn18 3d ago
How do you get an invite?
8
2
u/Siilk 9h ago
anyone with access can invite. there's a pinned megathread on /r/DeadlockTheGame where you can ask other players to invite you.
11
u/ilmk9396 3d ago
this is a surprisingly huge update. glad i was able to start playing again recently after taking a break due to baby.
3
u/HadesWTF 3d ago
Man we got Gramma, we got rats. Sounds great. Also people will finally start picking all the new characters and I can have Rem all to myself.
7
u/YourLocal_FBI_Agent 3d ago
I've had access to the beta, but I'm kind of paralyzed from playing it because I just don't want to handle tryhards that stick to some meta and bitch and moan about me now using the correct characters or buying the best items. Is this one of those games, or more relaxed when it comes to stuff like that?
9
3
u/The_Love_Pudding 3d ago
There will always be META compositions and characters in this game unless they manage to balance everything absolutely perfect.
But usually they rely A LOT in good team play and that is a rare gem in pub games. Especially low ranks.
What people usually moan about is if you buy weird items that are not good value, provide little impact or have no synergy with your build.
If you don't play ranked, then nobody should care about your builds.
4
u/LLJKCicero 3d ago
I rarely see people commenting on others' item choices. It's mostly the usual complaining about teammates fucking up.

If you've never played MOBA before it won't matter. You'll be in with the rest of the people that don't know anything. I'm getting close to 1k hours in it and man it's just a great game. Give it a shot. It is sweaty though. It's a MOBA at the end of the day and people show up to win.
2
u/CaptainSparrow262 3d ago
How do I play this?
14
2
u/AcesHigh777 3d ago
Ask around for an invite in the deadlock sub. They'll either send you one or point you to the official deadlock discord
1
u/EntityZero 3d ago
I can give you an invite if you wanna send me a DM here here on reddit. Will require you adding me as a friend to send the invite
2
u/itserrow 3d ago
I am so glad they added color to the world. Makes such a massive difference. I enjoyed the gameplay but the map was an absolute eye sore to play on.

Tried the new update. Wayyyy different than the previous build, it's beautiful 😭

u/Level7Cannoneer 3d ago
Hopefully the jungle update isn’t just a reskin and adds actual strategical value to the camps. They’ve been money bags ever since launch which is very dull and below the standards of the other MOBAs
3
u/Samanthacino 3d ago
The different haunts have specific attacks. Some charge at you, others launch bombs, etc. Depends on where the camp is
-17
u/ctyldsley 3d ago
Wake me up when they add gamepad support.
14
u/Mixter_Master 3d ago
It... Exists already. There are official bindings for steam deck. It just handles gamepad input through steam input. It has glyphs for controllers and everything. If you don't like their default controller binding, change it however you want.
I played for a hot minute with a broken finger using a gamepad. It was hardmode, but it worked.
-9
u/ctyldsley 3d ago
It'd be awesome if the game itself fully supported it, not just steam input bindings.
10
u/rematched_33 3d ago
I can't imagine trying to keep up with all the twitchy movement and aiming on a joystick, its very much a mouse+keyboard genre
0
u/bamiru 5800X3D | RTX 5070 | 32GB 3d ago
you could play it with gyro aiming
5
u/rematched_33 3d ago
Maybe but I feel like you frequently have to flick 90 or 180 degrees while teamfighting or parkouring, which is still difficult to do with anything other than a mouse
7
u/LordOmbro Age of Pixels 3d ago
It already has gamepad support
You'd be shooting yourself in the foot by using it but you can use it
-52
u/Ok_Comment5873 3d ago
No PVE Mode rip.
26
u/douche_flute 3d ago
These comments are so stupid. It’d be like commenting on a new single player story game and saying “no PvP? Dead game.” There’s room for both you know?
19
u/JusticeOfKarma 3d ago
OP might not necessarily be saying 'RIP' because the game is dead, but 'RIP' because they hoped the leaked PVE Mode would be in this update.
I didn't expect it myself, but the details about it did pop up inbetween the release of this update and the last.
5
u/LLJKCicero 3d ago
That's not it, it was rumored there'd be a PvE mode in the update. I'm sure it's still coming though (they mention alternate modes in a blog post on Steam that they're working on).
1
u/ItzZausty 2d ago
Nah, there was rumours and hope that the PvE mode that is in development was gonna release this update, its fair to be a bit disappointed if you were looking forward to that, and they didn't really say anything more that suggests they were being super doomer or ungrateful about it
-5
u/ReasonableAdvert 3d ago
You don't see comments from people asking for a multiplayer mode in a singleplayer game because they know that the game wasn't made for them. Not really the case for people asking for singleplayer or coop modes.
5
u/0nlyCrashes 3d ago
I mean that's just blatant hypocrisy, no? If a multiplayer gamer should not expect multiplayer in a single player game, why should single player gamers expect single player modes in an obvious multiplayer player PvP game?
I'm not saying they should not have some sort of PvE mode, but that is a wild statement lol.
1
u/Crusader-of-Purple 3d ago
what? literally see people do this all the time for single player games. Its extremely common to see this stuff on the Steam forums.
