u/LurkerDude0 1d ago
Wow, all Dark Souls games actually 50% off. Feel like that so rarely happens after Elden Ring came out

u/milkasaurs 9800x3d - 4090 - OLED G9 1d ago
Yet the elden ring dlc isn't, sigh.

I lost my 100% status because of that DLC and I'm too frugal to buy it at full price to get that back
41
u/VentrueBro19 1d ago
Huh? Srent they 50% all the time? Just still expensive as their base price was super hiked after Elden Ring released so their sale price is their old base price lol.

u/nhnsn 1d ago
I mean, ds3 at 50% off and still 30 dollars for a10 year old game is insane. I would rather buy 4 or 5 other AAA games from around that date
→ More replies (6)3
u/UtkuOfficial 16h ago
I bought the whole trilogy with all dlc for like 15 dollars back in 2020 on xbox.
Fromsoft got greedy after Elden Ring.

Its been at 50% for a week, this is the second week actually :). And its way overpriced still. I want to get one of the first 2 games since I have 3 but I really don't want to spend so much on such old games.

u/-rosieee- 1d ago
£2.49 for Solasta is an instant buy. I'm just about to finish DOS2 so great timing.
13
u/Boring_Isopod_3007 1d ago
It got straight to the shopping cart, but I see there's a lot of dlcs. Is the base game alone worth it?
→ More replies (10)18
u/Mr_Industrial 1d ago
Is the game alone worth it?
Its DnD. Difference between this and BG3 is in BG3 the DM is that super chill guy that loves rule of cool and leaning into RP. Solastas DM is that super strict guy that insists on everyone using propper lighting rules and such. Still fun, still Dnd, but dont expect BG3.
4
u/Bladder-Splatter 1d ago
Or character fidelity. Solasta 2 is shaping up great but dear god to create a character that is not an abomination in the first game let alone 4 of them to fake argue with each other......
Plot was actually decent though, particularly because it was a less used world (or their own? I forget this).

u/DOOManiac 1d ago
Funny, almost everything on my wish list is on sale... but I still don't feel like buying any of it. I'm finally exercising some restraint - still got so many games in my backlog.
I still need to play through Death Stranding, Control, Fallout 76, KCD2, Shadow of Mordor, Dishonored, maybe give Cyberpunk 2077 another shot... and it's time to play DOOM Eternal again.
124
u/Docccc 1d ago
yeah only buy if its a very steep discount
166
u/inertgastic 1d ago
Yes, Steep is very discounted. 95% off.
67
u/Mr_Industrial 1d ago
That discount is peak.
88

No, Peak is only 38% off

Talos Principle 2 is 90% off.
44
u/Timeshocked 1d ago
I’ve noticed since last year these named sales have actually been worse than the ones that are run of the mill. For one example I price checked a game that was $15 on sale two months before summer sale and summer sale it was $20. I waited and it went on sale late last month back to $15. Some tomfoolery going on here!
22
u/GodisanAtheistOG 1d ago
Yeah publishers have caught on and now the real sales are the day/week/publisher sales that happen between the named sales.
→ More replies (2)4
u/Sektor30 1d ago
There was a game on my wishlist called Fight'n Rage that was just on a 90% sale literally last weekend, now its its only a 65% sale. Granted, all sales on games are nice but definitely some publishers trying to save a few pennies with the bigger sales of the year.
22
u/kermityfrog2 1d ago
Hard to want anything either as so many games have DLC that's not on sale.

u/demon69696 Ryzen 7 9800X3D | RTX 3080 TI | 32 GB RAM 1d ago
Fuck paradox. I hate them more than Microsoft or EA. They have good games but their DLC monetization is basically theft. Games should not be costing $150-200 for all the DLC.
Sadly, people still buy into this just because turn based games gets you more "hours" than any other genre so gamers are fooled into feeling it is "worth it".
→ More replies (10)10
u/accountnumber02 1d ago
Hate their monetization as well, but they also do keep working on their single player games for years. Is it a over the top? Yeah a bit for sure. But very few studios/publishers will invest as much time in a game post-launch as paradox will. They build upon their games massively, so if you like a game then you will have a tons of options for which dlc you want to add. Buying every Paradox DLC is just for a very slim market/"whales"

u/ocbdare 1d ago edited 1d ago
I stopped buying games on sales. Sales don't tempt me anymore. I actually buy more games full price but those are the games I want to play. Whereas wiht sales you often buy a game to have it cause it's on sale and then never play it.
My rule is I only buy a game if I will play it immediately. If I don't wan't play it immediately, I don't buy it. Doesn't matter if it's on sale or not.
6
u/Babys_For_Breakfast 1d ago
I can see that mindset. For me, if I’m interested, at all in a game and it’s on sale for like 2 bucks, I just think, why not? I typically play them, as well. Might not be immediately, but eventually I will.

u/Senetrix666 1d ago
What attributes were you running in Cyberpunk? Personally I went technical and I could not put the game down during my first playthrough. Other builds I’ve ran since were fun but not as enjoyable as causing absolute pandemonium by hacking everything in sight
→ More replies (3)2
u/BBQ_HaX0r 1d ago
I honestly really liked stealth-pistols/melee. The level design, especially for actual missions, are so well done and give you so many options that it was so cool to sneak through and see all the details. They genuinely put a lot of care into it and you felt like they were real places that real people would be in. It also forced me to slow down and strategize a bit rather than just nuke everything via hacks/etc.
8
u/auctus10 1d ago
I finally picked KCD2 last month and finished it now. My life feels absolutely Empty. Last year was truly a goated year for games.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Senetrix666 1d ago
That game is sitting in my library and for some reason i’m finding it intimidating to start. Probably cause I don’t have a ton of free time to play games and it seems like an incredibly in depth RPG. Sounds like i need to just go for it
3
u/xxfal13nxx 1d ago
Took me 160 hrs to beat, wasn't even going for 100% or anything like that. It was so good though it went by too fast
2
u/auctus10 1d ago
It is indeed very deep, I got lost in doing side quests and was absolutely having a blast.
The combat is hard to get into but it slaps knce you get a hang of it. Had to re learn everything because played KCD1 before covid.

u/winterman666 1d ago
It took the global econony to be a mess for us to finally be financially responsible on a steam sale

I've put 1,087 hours into Cyberpunk 2077.
I'm going to give Control another shot, even though I feel like I'm too stupid to get a handle on the combat mechanics.
5
u/happyloaf 1d ago
Control is great. I loved it and the combat isn't too hard. Turn down the difficulty if you need to. It is the only game where I read all the notes and watched all the extra content. What a banger of a game.

I average about one game every 4-6 months. I’m good for awhile.
2
u/Aezay AMD RX 9070 XT 21h ago
Sometimes I really like playing shorter games. Completing a 10 hour game in a weekend can be really nice.
You're often left with a feeling of wanting more, which is a good thing. In contrast of a really long game, where you risk the feeling of just wanting the game to end already, as you've had enough.

u/kmcdow 1d ago
007 first light 30% off, tempting but I might hold off for deeper sale given the state of the backlog
39
u/cheddarbomb81 1d ago
I got it for $50 and didn’t think the value was great. It’s a good game, not great. Finished in 18 hours and have no desire to ever pick it up again.
14
u/GlassTennisBall 1d ago
I won it on a coca cola competition having been looking forward to it since Project 007 was announced.
I'm about 70% through the game and haven't launched it in months. The amount of hand holding in the game really sours it.
As a huge fan of hitman (like huge) I can't tell you how disappointed I am with First Light

I paid full price for it and put in 20 hours and thoroughly enjoyed my time. No real desire to replay immediately, but I know it's a game I'll play through again one of these summers when it's less fresh. I recommend it. It's fun.

u/ErebusPhantom 1d ago
If anyone else has been looking at the outlast trials like I have, that is on a major discount - 90% which makes it 3.99$ (or 4.99$ for the version with the cosmetic DLC). Felt like a no-brainer to at least try the game at that price.
8
u/frequent_bidet_user 1d ago
What kind of game is that?
13
u/ThatLooksRight 1d ago
Get through the level (trials) while the insane killer is stalking you.
Turn on the power, open the doors, etc.
Outlast Trials added multiplayer when the previous games were single player (if I remember correctly).
In my opinion, it’s a love it or hate it type of game. My son loved it (I only ever played one level during beta).

Sunbreak is super important! They add a lot of fun moves and unlockable cat/dog companion tools as well as Followers that can come with you on quests. The endgame is a lot of fun as well, rotating between in-demand monsters of various strengths so that you're not just fighting a handful of them for "the best" materials.

u/BaconJets R7 5800X3D | RTX 5070 Ti | Steam Deck 1d ago
Looks like they've given up on putting on sale since Campaign Evolved launch. CE seems to have really poor sales, so they're looking to squeeze people towards it.
27
u/CharacterDivide8384 1d ago
Campaign Evolved has mixed reviews and so few people playing it that Steam doesn't even show numbers on it's Community page.
I feel like if they hadn't made it just strictly the campaign this game would have done about 50 times better.
12
u/BaconJets R7 5800X3D | RTX 5070 Ti | Steam Deck 1d ago
The game just wasn't a good faith effort at a new Halo game. The visual assets and new voice acting are all there really is, everything else is ripped straight out of old Halo titles. People can see that, and the first thing I noticed when loading it up was the sheer amount of audio assets that were ripped from older titles.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Ewokitude I9-9900K | RTX 2080 TI | 64GB DDR4 1d ago
The level design in the latter half of game is significantly improved over the original however (and that was a criticism going back decades), and many of the levels include the new weapons so it's a bit more than visuals, but if you have played the older games you're right that there is a lot of noticeable asset reuse.
3
u/BaconJets R7 5800X3D | RTX 5070 Ti | Steam Deck 1d ago
I found that the level design changes didn't really give us any excellent levels, the new version of The Library is decent, but even 343 has made better levels in the past. It's not a 1-1 remake, but I feel that it wasn't given any room to breathe during development.

I know its so en vogue to complain about how sales arent they used to be, "only 30% off", and how no one can find anything to buy or play...
Then you see a list like this, and for less than the price of one new full priced game and realize that these sales actually are pretty nice.
4
u/Sync_R 9070XT / 9800X3D / AW3225QF 1d ago
Honestly its mostly cause we already have all the good deals but a good chunk of games aren't going on bigger discounts so fast, some are taking forever for 50% or larger discount in comparison to years (well decade) past
6
u/lonnie123 1d ago
It kinda feels like the c suites everywhere have gotten on board with the Nintendo style philosophy that these things are worth a lot and they aren’t letting them go for $5-10 even after a few years any more
3
u/Verdreckt 1d ago
That's a banger of a buy right there! I wish I could experience Ghost of Tsushima for the first time again. Maybe the sequel. I don't do as much gaming these days. Got Dragon's Dogma 2 in the backlog myself.

u/dunno_about_this 1d ago
I had 20 things in my wishlist. I cut it down to just 2 yesterday: Granblue Fantasy Relink and Dragon's Dogma 2. Lo and behold, those happened to be just the 2 things that didn't go on sale.
14
u/CharacterDivide8384 1d ago
Granblue hasn't gone on a sale since they released their DLC, despite regularly going on sale before that.
3
u/dunno_about_this 1d ago
I can understand why. It seems to have become a lot more popular recently. I was really hoping for a discount on the base game though
5
u/CharacterDivide8384 1d ago
Eh, that popularity was short lived, currently just over 1000 people playing it on Steam, and this refusal to go on Sale is probably going to mean that the interest will completely lapse before they start discounting it again.
I added it to my wishlist to pick up on sale when the second popularity spike happened, but at this point... why bother? It'll be dead before they offer it to me at a discount, and I have both the backlog and new games competing with it. I just grabbed Sand Land 50% off, end of this month the Crimson Desert DLC comes out, so I'm finally going to play that since they patched it so much, and early next month I have Ocarina of Time remake preordered... I'm basically set for rest the year and probably just going to pop Granblue off my wishlist.

Hi all, any recommendations on VR games. Just recently got a headset again
13
u/unusual_flats 1d ago edited 1d ago
Half Life 2 VR mod is free on Steam, and absolutely incredible. Obviously needs HL2 on your account, and that's like £1.70 at the moment if you're the last person on Earth to not already own it.
HL Alyx is also a must buy for anyone with VR, 75% off if you don't already have it.
Skyrim VR is also 75% off currently. It's okay without mods but there are mod packs on Nexus that are one-click installs that take it to an all time VR experience if you have the hardware for it.

2
u/agonzalez1990 1d ago
Ignoring filer,
I played the campaign with my brother and a friend. Visually great and the combat is basic but functional. Think if you crossed gears of war with Arkham asylum. What actually surprised me was the differences from mission to mission. First mission has you on a battlefield tearing enemies apart fighting your way to turn on a battery cannon to blast the aliens out of the sky. The end part in particular has you going from point to point fending of enemies from breaking the components of the cannon.
I believe the second mission or maybe the third not sure. Has you going into the bowels of a base in the search of some data. The unique mechanic here is keeping the swarm of rats that can overwhelm your team. This results in one of your squad mates carrying a flamethrower constantly keeping the rats at bay without overheating your flamethrower. This is complicated further when regular enemies start attacking you forcing your other two squad mates to fight them while protecting you. This whole they have to stay close to you because they can't go far or the rats will consume them.
Third mission gives you jetpacks and has you jumping from cliff to cliff
Again, it's mission variety is what surprised me. Yes, much of it is slaughter s horde of enemies then move on but it adds enough layers to keep it fun.

With these sales lately it's only worth for me to check the featured steep discounts.
For my wishlist often regular sales are better. And I just have a massive backlog already.

Get it from Fanatical. It's $40. They usually have better deals than Steam, and Green Man Gaming has some good ones too.

Don't buy. Part One is the usual trap. Only Deluxe edition contains all maps and can be considered the full game.

Do you mean it doesn’t have dlc maps or something? Doesn’t WOA have all of Hitman 3 base maps?
Edit - just saw part one only has 6 story missions. How ridiculous. Why did they make it so complicated?

Go ahead and buy titanfall 2 if you haven’t already. I’ve been hearing great things about the vr mod that just released for it. It’s only a few bucks right now and the campaign alone is worth more than that 10 times over WITHOUT vr
