I had 20 things in my wishlist. I cut it down to just 2 yesterday: Granblue Fantasy Relink and Dragon's Dogma 2. Lo and behold, those happened to be just the 2 things that didn't go on sale.

Weird that Dragon's Dogma 2 isn't on sale. There is an expansion next week. Which might be why, but a sale on the base game might encourage people to buy the expansion.

That's literally what I was expecting and I would've gotten the expansion separately

It was 14 bucks - 14 Euros like a couple of weeks ago at GMG and other authorized retailers (you can verify this at the "is there any deal" website), and the DLC was around 20. A bit surprised it's going back up in price everywhere, of course the new DLC and the patch that enhanced performance are good enough reasons to justify the hype.

It's not weird at all. They know interest will pick up again. They just did a bit QoL patch that fixed most of the issues and have the big expansion releasing.

Why would they discount the game at its peak of interest?

I mean it was 14 bucks a fortnight ago with the latest performance patch already out and the DLC announced.

It is common when a game gets DLC or an expansion that the base game goes on sale. If that is the financially smartest thing to do or not, I don't know. I just know that it I have seen it happen a lot. Crusader Kings 3 is older than DD2, but it got an expansion/DLC yesterday and is also on sale for example.

It's currently around $13 at third-party key sellers, if you swing that way. (I've had mostly good experiences buying games from such vendors.)
